10.2 Oracle Home after 11i 12 upgrade

We have done an upgrade of 11.5.9 to 12.0.6 on TEST. We did the DB upgrade separately (ie - not within the rapidinstall part). So, we have the original 10.2 oracle home from 11i, as well as the 10.2 oracle home that was supplied with rapidinstall. Herein lies the question:
1) Does it matter which Oracle Home is used (presuming both are at the same patchset level? Will their be future implications if the 11i 10.2 oracle home is used?
2) If we are using the 11i 10.2 Oracle Home, how does one move to the other Oracle Home (the one that the release 12 rapidinstall supplied) - is this part of running the appsutil.zip? Please bear with me on these questions - it's been a couple of months since we did this, and we're just reviewing everything again in further detail.
Thanks everyone.

Hi Hussein,
Perhaps I used the wrong words (my apologies).
1) We upgraded our 11.5.9CU2 9.2.0.8 DB to 10.2.0.4 first, before running rapidinstall (because this is how we plan to do it in PROD - this breaks up the downtimes to our users).
2) We did not install a 12i 10.2 oracle home per se - when we ran the rapid install, it supplied the filesystem: $ORACLE_BASE/db/tech_st/10.2.0/ - and this is what is a little confusing to me.
3) During the 11i>12 upgrade, under the "Oracle Applications Upgrade Guide: Release 11i to Release 12.0.4" - Page 3-8 - step 7 - we generated a new context file under the 11i 10.2 oracle home.
4) So, we clearly are using the 11i 10.2 Oracle Home. So my questions are:
Q1) The filesystem that rapidinstall supplied (as noted in point 2 above) - essentially that is not doing anything - ie - it is a duplication?
Q2) Under the "Oracle Applications Upgrade Guide: Release 11i to Release 12.0.4" - Page 3-2, Oracle says "We strongly recommend that you use the Release 12.0.4 Oracle Home supplied by Rapid Install..." - I guess this is the part that has me a bit confused, or I need a second opinion on. My assumption is that we are OK here in what we did - that being, using the 10.2.0.4 Oracle Home from 11i.
Thanks very much...Colin

  • How to uninstall the 8.0.6 Oracle Home after R12 upgrade

I would like to remove the 8.0.6 Oracle Home from the central inventory after completing an R12 upgrade. Using the 10.1.3 OUI, I am able to remove the 9iAS Oracle Home from the inventory, but the 8.0.6 Oracle Home does not have a checkbox that allows OUI to deinstall. I thought there was some 8.0.6 process that would do the inventory deregistration.

I found 8.0.6 $ORACLE_HOME/orainst. Using orainst, I could remove all software except the reports server, that throws the following error:
    or60w.dei(0): FILE_NOT_FOUND while deinstalling │ │

  • Listener complications in second oracle homes after 11.2.0.3 upgrade

    Hi Everyone,
I am running Oracle 11.2.0.1 64-bit on Windows Server 2008 R2, and Application Express 4.1.1.
I decided to upgrade to 11.2.0.3 for the security/general fixes. I installed 11.2.0.3 into a separate home directory (home2) and then upgraded the 11.2.0.1 database using the DBUA. The upgrade went fine, and the database/Apex started up without incident.
At this point, I had one listener running from home1 - I have multiple database links and TNS entries which ran perfectly in 11.2.0.1. I figured since the database was upgraded, I would create a new listener from home2, replicate the listener/TNS entries for the database links but point them to home2, and turn off the listener from home1. So I did this, ran the listener2 on the same port as home1 (obvisouly after the original listener was shut down), and things were working for the most part, except that the database link queries in the Apex application would fail intermittently. One time it would work, the next time it would say "TNS error: connect identifier could not be resolved". This never occurred in the original configuration.
After some fiddling around with various listener settings, I ended up running the listener from home2 with the exact same listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files from the home1 NETWORK\admin folder. So basically the listener2 service is running, but all listener entries are pointing to the home1 location.
I am confused on how this is working... first, why would the listener2 running from home2 have random problems with the database links, and why does the listener2 configuration work while pointing to home1?
    Any info is appreciated.
    -Ian

I figured since the database was upgraded, I would create a new listener from home2, replicate the listener/TNS entries for the database links but point them to >home2, and turn off the listener from home1.inplace of moving listener.ora file into new home, can you try to create new listener by using NETCA.

I agree with this but we face the error while installing oracle cluster
    here is my scenario:
create oracle user on both the nodes(rac1,rac2):
    1) my first oracle home - /home/oraclePart of thinking these things through before proceeding is to recognize that the concept of ORACLE_HOME is not the same as the $HOME directory for the OS user who happens to be named "oracle".
Since you appear to be still in the process of building this system, I'd suggest you go back to square one while you can.
    2) configure ssh on both the nodes
    3) due to sapce constraint in /home mount point we changed the oracle home to /oracle
    4) so my new oracle home is /oracle

My question is i have no instance yet to 11g Oracle home, as i have installed 11.1.0.6 base release and installed 11.1.0.7 patch set release in 11.1.0.6 oracle home. All I have ready for now is old database 10.2.0.3(needed to be upgraded) and just 11g oracle home (just software).
From the above patch post install steps how could i run above scripts without any instance connected to 11g?
Please help me out as very urgent!

  • Multiple oracle homes installation

i have installed oracle 9i database on single sever where 8i is residing using multiple oracle homes. After installation some folders and files related to 9i created in 8i home directory(eg:9i admin related folder create in 8i admin folder).but i dont want to create like that.is there any way to create all files related to 9i should reside on that 9i home directory only?

    You didn't specified the OS.
Assume that your OS is Unix-like (Solaris, Linux) and your user is oracle.
The answer is very simple. Use different enviroments.
create in home directory (oracle user) two files:
    1. .ora_8i
    2. .ora_9i
All enviroment variables related for 8i database (ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, LD_LIBRARY_PATH etc.) are defined in .ora _8i and all variables for 9i are defined in .ora_9i.
Now, you want working with 8i so you need apply 8i enviroment. To do that simply execute following from shell ". ~/.ora_8i". Now you decided working with 9i so simply execute the ". ~/.ora_9i" from shell.
For installation use the same way. So before you run ./runInstaller load the apropriate enviroment.

  • Listener home after upgrade

    Hi
Can someone tell me the implications of not changing the oracle_home to the new home in listener.ora after upgrading from oracle 10.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.5 .My new home is /oradba/app/oracle/product/10.2.0.5_oct11psu and the old home that is currently set in the listener.ora is (ORACLE_HOME = /oradba/app/oracle/product/10.2.0.4_jul11psu).After the upgrade I have tested and i am able to connect to the DB externally....
    Thanks!

Does that mean i don't change the oracle_home to the new home in the listener .ora file?
When i do a ps -ef|grep tns i could see that the listeners are pointing to a totally different location, that means these are independent of the oracle_home that is corrently set for my SID?
    ps -ef|grep tns
    oracle 15686 1 0 Feb 2 ? 7:55 /oradba/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.2_jan12psu/bin/tnslsnr LSNR_A -inherit

    oracle 29730 1 0 Feb 2 ? 1:41 /oradba/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.2_jan12psu/bin/tnslsnr LSNR_C-inherit
Like is said the my home after the 10.2.0.5 upgrade is /oradba/app/oracle/product/10.2.0.5_oct11psu and i am able to connect to the DB externally.....
Below is my listener.ora entry which is pointing to the old $ORACLE_HOME....

  • Provider not compatible version of Oracle client after upgrade 4.112.1.2

    I had an ASP.NET 3.5 website running
on intranet small business server as production with:
    OS Win2008 Standard 32-bit
    Oracle Database 11g107 32-bit
    Oracle DataAccess 2.111.60 32-bit
    On a development laptop,
    I upgraded the website to ASP.NET 4.0.
    The development laptop had
    OS Windows 7 32-bit
    VS 2010
    Oracle Database 11g201 32-bit
    Oracle DataAccess 4.112.12
    Application was running without errors.
    On the production server,
    I uninstalled Oracle Database 11g107,
to include removing Oracle home and install folders,
and in HKLM > Software > Oracle registry folder.
    I installed Oracle Database 11g201
and installed the ODP.NET upgrade to 4.112.12.
    (except for VS components).
    In the website web.config,
I changed the referenced assembly to:
    <assemblies>
         <add assembly="Oracle.DataAccess, Version=4.112.1.2, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342" />
I changed IIS70 Application pool advanced settings to ASP.NET 4.0,
    restarting application pool and website.
    Rebooted system.
On starting the application when it accesses the Oracle connection,
I get the dreaded: Provider not compatible.

It is not the VB.NET Oracle connection code,

Is there a command I need to run to remove the old 111.6.0 Oracle client references from GAC?
Eventhough Oracle ODP.NET installer put a policy to refer the older version to the new?

    In
    C:\Program Files\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\.NETFramework\v4.0
    and in
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319
    There is only SYSTEM.DATA.ORACLECLIENT
I suspect that we would not see Oracle.DataAccess.dll in these locations anyway.
    ++++++++
    In
    C:\Windows\assembly
    There is:
    Oracle.DataAccess 2.112.1.2
    Oracle.Database.Extensions 2.112.1.2
    Oracle.Web 2.112.1.2
This is the GAC for ASP.NET 2.0-3.5,
so this appears to be correct
    ++++++++
    In
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_32
    There is:
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_32\Oracle.DataAccess\v4.0_4.112.1.2__89b483f429c47342
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_32\Oracle.Database.Extensions\v4.0_4.112.1.2__89b483f429c47342
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_32\Oracle.Web\v4.0_4.112.1.2__89b483f429c47342
with the appropriate 4.112.1.2 dlls in these folders
This is the GAC for ASP.NET 4.0,
so this appears to be correct.
    +++++++
    In
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Config\Machine.config
Removed Oracle Providers references, I just need ODAC to update and insert data into schema data tables,
and do not use the ASP.NET Oracle Providers schema.
Should I need ASP.NET Oracle Providers schema, I can always add references in the application web.config.

So... why would I get provider not compatible version of Oracle Client...
there are no other versions of ODAC hanging around,
unless there are other locations I am not aware of.
The application works fine in development laptop.
The application works fine on production server when I use SYSTEM.DATA.ORACLECLIENT.
But we need to migrate away from SYSTEM.DATA.ORACLECLIENT according to Microsoft,
and I am sure Oracle would rather have me use Oracle.DataAccess client anyway.

I even tried a trick from another post to move what appears to be Oracle Instant Client components,

and set references for Oracle.DataAccess.dll to LOCAL TRUE.

    So I remain stuck.

  • Multiple Oracle Homes - Oracle Listener failes to start after installation

Just in case the listener fails to start after an oracle installation, please check the oracle ports in the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora, both of which are present in the following directory:
    ...\oracle\<SID>\<Ver>\NETWORK\ADMIN
All installations should have separate listener ports eg. If the first installation has port 1527, the next one should be 1528 and so on..
If they do not, manually change the ports and start the listeners.
Also check SAP Note 98252. Although I didn't find it necessary (I think it applies only if you have a single listener for all oracle homes), it did give me an idea that there some config problem in the .ora files.
Also see [this thread|Oracle Listener error in Import ABAP phase?; for related details

    hi
    thanks for the help ,
I have been using the SQL Server , i am totally blank about Oracle
i am totally confused with this user, and hoststring
i logged in to the enterprise manager using System and manager password
But i cannot connect to any database using SQL Server
i am not remembering any user name or password i have given during installation.
the only thing i remember is
Global databasename = (globedb) i have given
For SID = globedb the same name i have given
for sys ,i have given sysdb as password
and for system i have given systemdb as password
with this can i do anything
when expand the schemas ,i can see the XDB,SCOTT and SYS . how can i login to this .
if i want to login to the scott
what would be the username, password, and hoststring. since i haven't set any password and username ,there would be some default username ,password, and hoststring.
if any one can help me please help me
    thanks regards

  • Can't apply Ultra Search to an upgraded Oracle Home. Do I have any options?

    Hi
    I've made a mistake!!
I created an Oracle Home, upgraded it to 10.2.0.4 and then created a new DB. This now contains SOA Suite and Content Management users which is working great.
I now need to add Ultra Search to this DB, but the install for this won't work as the installer expects a 10.2.0.1 home. Anyway, it probably wouldn't be a good idea anyway I would have thought as it would apply 10.2.0.1 software to a more recent version.
So, not being a DBA, do I have any options?
For example, I thought about creating a new home, adding all the extra software and then upgrading the home to 10.2.0.4. Then, could I clone the DB to this new home?
Any advice would be most appreciated.....
    Many thanks
    Chris

I can confirm that Ultra search cannot be installed by dbca in 10.2.0.4 database. It complains about invalid objects during installation in the created schema. Investigation showed up its some wrapped plsql package implementations that cannot be compiled.
When installing first 10.2.0.1 db, then patching to 10.2.0.3, then installing companion 10.2.0.1 and patching companion again to 10.2.0.3, Ultra search installation works in dbca.
Ultra search is needed for example by metadata creation assistant 10.1.4 (for Oracle internet directory 10.1.4). So Oracle internet directory cannot be installed on 10.2.0.4. Oracle probably didn't test this possibility

  • How to not upgrade clusterware 10203 when upgrading another oracle home

    Hello,
We have a 4 node rac 10.2.0.3 and 10.2.0.3 clusterware on red hat 4. We want to install a new none-rac home on one of the nodes and patch that new none-rac home to 10.2.0.4. But if we install and patch the new 10.2.0.4, what happen to the clusterware already running on the 4 rac-node? What we want is to avoid upgrading the clusterware 10.2.0.3. We just want to install a new none-rac on one of the nodes and not touch the clusterware that is already running for the rac-node, 10.2.03. My question is, when installing a new separate none-rac oracle home 10.2.0.4 on RAC, does the new none-rac detect the clusterware 10.2.0.3? If so, what to do so the clusterware 10.2.0.3 is untouched when installing a 10.2.0.4 new none-rac oracle home? Thank you.

As long as you choose a different path name for your new 10.2.0.4 oraclehome, there is no problem. ;)
does the new none-rac detect the clusterware 10.2.0.3?Not if it's NON RAC!

  • 12.1.0.3 Agent Upgrade shows agent Not Upgradable with Oracle Home Property Missing

I have completed upgrading my Enterprise Manager OMS from 12.1.0.1 to 12.1.0.3 and am not in the process of upgrading the agents. Several agents show agent as not upgradable with error Oracle Home Property Missing and I am having problems trying to resolve that. In addition to the information in Chapter 5 of the upgrade guide I have found Metalink notes 1564380.1 & 1576084.1 and am trying to follow them.
Looking at the targets.xml on one machine I find -
    <Target TYPE="oracle_home" NAME="cannon-columbo_cluster_home" IDENTIFIER="TARGET_GUID=615AE33355A4D531DBFC35831C2A2952">
    <Target TYPE="oracle_home" NAME="mothpa.ucdavis.edu_mothpa1_oracle_database_home" IDENTIFIER="TARGET_GUID=DFE64CFD805C3C3F88E20EE0E74E556F">
    <Target TYPE="oracle_home" NAME="LISTENER_SCAN1_cannon-columbo_oracle_listener_home" IDENTIFIER="TARGET_GUID=964A37630D9E7E321E0EA845B79F5CD7">
and following the notes I use emctl and run runCollection -
    ./emctl control agent runCollection mothpa.ucdavis.edu_mothpa1_oracle_database_home:oracle_home oracle_home_config
But the console still shows Oracle Home Property Missing. emctl listtargets shows -
    mothpa1:product/agent12g/agent_inst/bin->./emctl config agent listtargets

I have found some information pertaining to promoting targets but I don't understand that very well, essentially how to know if a target needs to be promoted. One note suggested running repvfy which I need to do. I will download it and run it to see if that helps but at the moment I am puzzled and seeking assistance. Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.
    Thank you.

I will do so, thank you.

  • Upgrading GRID Oracle Home

I have just finished upgrading my GRID respository and agent to 10.2.0.3. However, my Oracle Home was not upgraded and still shows a version of 10.1.0.4. Do I need to do a separate DB upgrade in order to upgrade my Oracle Home?
    Ta

Yes, you need to do a database upgrade from 10.1.0.4 to 10.2.0.3.
