10.3 update weirdness

Just installed the recent update. After the download was complete, I rebooted. Nothing (gray screen). Rebooted again. Same thing. Rebooted a third time and it booted no problem.
I immediately backed up my files. After this was completed I was doing something else (can't remember, something as mundane as surfing) and my computer froze. I rebooted and got the os 9 flashing folder and question mark icon.
I've tried to reinstall 10.3.7 from the install DVD multiple times but after the installer starts it freezes, not allowing me to press "continue."
I've tried disk utility, but it is unable to find any disk - rather, it says "gathering disk information..." but after a long time still has the spinning wheel.
I'm starting to get a little freaked out, although I'm glad I performed a back up.
Thoughts??????

Is your backup bootable, and is it on an external drive that is connected by Firewire?
If so, you could boot from the backup using Target Disk Mode,
How to use FireWire target disk mode
then use Disk Utilities, Repair Disk on the original volume.
Then restart normally.

The software updater doesn't seem to find any update for my N95, altough it's a still a 11.0.026 firmware.

Touchpad - after latest update, weird grey circle icon appears

After the latest set of updates, my touchpad took to displaying a stationary gray circle/swirl half the time when I tried to move the cursor. Seemed to happen less if I moved very slowly. I turned off scrolling (again), and it's mostly gone away. Can anyone confirm that this is related to scrolling?

I had the same issue I just rolled the driver back to a previous one and the issue disapeard.
Never update when the system runs satisfactorily ;-)

N95 Update - Weird!!

Hi all
My current firmware version is 11.0.0.026 and latest version at the moment is 20.0.0.015 but nokia updater is saying that my firmware is up to date clearly it isnt.
Can anybody explain why this is, I have the original N95 not the 8GB version.

If your N95 is network branded then there may not be updated firmware available for your particular product code.

Hardware Update Weirdness

Hi All,
Just had my MBP into the shop for maintenance to my trackpad.
Now when I try to run Google Earth I get this message.
"You can't open the application "Google Earth" because it is not supported on this architecture."
I'm pretty sure one thing that Google Earth looks at when it starts is your video architecture.
Is there any chance they would upgrade my hardware while on a routine visit to the shop?
I could be wrong but it also seems to run hotter.
Just curious.

Video signal lost on launch of iTunes (after "update")

I just (foolishly) "updated" to the most recent version of itunes. And, surprise surprise, a headache has ensued. I am using a mac mini hooked into a TV via HDMI (the setup is mac mini ---> receiver ---> TV). After the itunes update, Weirdly, when I launch itunes, the video signal gets lost. The application appears to start without any problems at first, but 10-20 seconds after launching, my TV goes black. I've never encountered a problem like this before (I've had my mini hooked to my TV in this setup for some time.) Any thoughts on how to try to address this issue would be greatly appreciated. (If only I had this computer on time machine, I would go back an hour and all my problems would be solved.)

I had the same problem after installing Snow Leopard.

Should I update to iOS 4.3?

I am very wary of bugs for my ipod touch 4th gen 8gig so I am wondering is there any major bugs I should now about? Even if you could tell me the minor ones. Thanks!

I've owned ipods for more than 5 years. Trust me when I say you should wait for the next release--instead of 4.3, wait for 4.3.1 or whatever they will name the update. Versions with just one decimal place (from Apple) are too problematic for my taste. Wait for 2 decimal places.

Nearly no wine game works with new catalyst 14.1

I used catalyst in the past and i cant remember ever had this problem
I installed catalyst-test from AUR because i needed it for better 3D Performance in VirtualBox
That worked, 3D in VirtualBox is now much better. But nothing in Linux works anymore
Amnesia for Example just crashes with an Segmentation fault, every wine game i try crashes with semgentation faults.
Every fucking game on my computer using 3D Graphics just crashes with an Segmentation fault, that gives me two questions
1. Why is everything segfaulting
2. Why does VirtualBox work fine with 3D
Uhm.... yeah.... i have no clue why Ö_Ö the package includes lib32-catalyst (which caused smiliar problems in the past) so normally everything should be there...

Weird, amnesia lost its Executable flag, thats why the Launcher crashed with an segfault, so this problem seems to be limited to wine
Wine games worked fine before with the OSS Radeon Driver.

UPDATE: I reinstalled my system and alas, all my wine games stopped working. Guess we'll all have to wait for Violo to return

Help! Multiple problems since 10.4.7

Sometime since applying the 10.4.7 update, weird things have started to happen with my 2ghz white macbook .... I've applied all updates and am currently on 10.4.9 but have been experiencing the following problems:
1. System Preferences doesn't always seem to save settings
2. Since once setting voiceover on, I can't disable voice speaking my login screen, even though VoiceOver under Universal access is set to NO.
3. Airport used to connect perfectly to my router, now (since the airport update), it doesn't connect to the network - I have to run network diagnostics (as prompted by Safari screen) before it works.
4. I can't run Software Update from the Apple meu. It gets 2/3 through then crashes (always thread 4 ...). The log reports (extract):

I was advised by my local mac shop to reinstall the 10.4.9 update by downloading the whole thing. Still didn't help.
Extended hardware check shows memory (and rest of computer?) is ok.

At the very end of your posting, it refers to a defective DNS issue. Check with your ISP to make sure everything is set up correctly for networking. It also says something about running as root. Do you use an Administrator account exclusively? Try setting up a non-administrator account and use that for a while to see if it makes a difference.

I cannot get skype to work, it looks like html.

Hello, I have been attempting to login to Skype on my laptop on Windows 8.1 and as I do so I get a screen that looks like very basic html and will not allow me to login no matter what I attempt to do. I have system restored, I have used older versions in an attempt (I found one that allowed me to get to the login page however I believe it was discontinued as I could not fully login), I have uninstalled-reinstalled. Nothing is working and it's really frustrating as this is my main communication source to my friends. It would really be appreciated if someone can help me. I have attached screenshots in an attempt to give you a view of my problem. Please help. I have attempted to delete DBTemp and even Shared.xml but nothing has worked. Anyone had the same problem or maybe just know a fix?

Button problems on website in flash 8

I just started using flash, but I am getting a bit better. I
purchased a template through monster and have slowly picked up on
flash. Here is my problem and forgive if I use incorrect
terminology or seem ignorant...
I have a page on my site that has 4 buttons on each
side...movie clip over a button...looks like a bar with a small
arrow movie clip on the end. I am sure you know what I mean. When
you roll the mouse pointer over the page it obviously is supposed
go through its actions and alert user there is a link. If I put my
code on the movie clip, you have to move the mouse over the arrow
to show the link. If I put my code on the button layer, it causes
all 8 of the buttons to have the same action/link and if I change
one it changes all.
What am I doing wrong? I can't seem to figure it out. Here is

Lifecam cinema problems on skype

My lifecam cinema works flawlessly with every messaging service apart from skype. The audio is fine but the video seems to be split into several independant parts on the same screen. Also can someone please tell me how to stop the pop up asking me to install live messenger as the live call button only works with that program. I wouldn't mind but I already have live messenger installed and the message realy is annoying.

Weird Firewire Issue since 10.5.6 update

Hey guys!
I'm a musician so I use an audio interface (Presonus FP10) to record my stuff. It's a firewire interface and it used to work perfectly fine.
However, since the 10.5.6 update there seems to be something wrong with my firewire port and I haven't found anything on the web that fits my problem.
If I plug in my interface into the firewire port, it doesn't work. It neither goes on nor is recognized by the OS.
Although, once I plug in my ethernet cable for internet access, it works fine.
Problem with this is that in my music room there is no possibiliy of pluging an ethernet cable.
I hope somebody can tell me what to do in order to get this fixed, whether this problem is caused by Leopard or by my interface.

That was my first guess, too. See, that's what makes it all so weird:
I have the device plugged in with no other cable. Nothing happens. I have the ethernet cable plugged in without anything connected to that. Nothing happens. I then plug it into an internet router ét voilá! It works...Could it maybe be a lack of electricity coming from a damaged AC-Unit connected to the device?
But then again, it all worked fine up to the 10.5.6 update. Did the apple people do something to the firewire driver?I hear the new Macbooks come without Firewire...

Ran the QT 7.1.5 / iTunes update this morning on my 10.3.9 Power Mac G5 and now I'm getting strange video artifacts. For example: the toolbar area of Firefox is no longer white - it's a crosshatched gray, almost like I was running in lo-res, but the main browser window looks normal. Other programs exhibit the same type of artifact - but only in certain parts of their windows. Also, the "hand" cursor looks like it's made up of dots, like pointilism. Everything works fine, just looks weird.
I repaired permissions, reapplied the 10.3.9 combo update, and reapplied the QT 7.1.5 update. No change. I can go into the Display preferences and switch from millions of colors to 256 and back again - and then things look fine, until I quit and relaunch the program. Then the artifacts are back.
Anybody have any ideas? I hope I've explained this sufficiently. I have a screen shot of this but don't know how to post it.

I'm running KDE as well. Guess I should have mentioned that. I'll try to downgrade the "xf86-video-ati" to see if that helps.
