10.4.11 and HTTPS through corporate firewall

At work we just moved to 10.4.11 from 10.4.9, and now apparently anything that requires https doesn't work any more in Safari. We first noticed it with email sites like Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo mail etc. At work we're going through our corporate firewall which is apparently a Windows-based firewall. I'm not in IT so I can't provide details on that.
It does appear to be a problem with Safari specifically because Firefox still works with https sites through the same firewall. With Safari, I've tried using both a pac file and setting the proxy settings manually, with the same results either way. Additionally, these Macs were working with these sites when they were on 10.4.9.
Does anybody know what changed in OS X between 10.4.9 and 10.4.11 that might be causing this problem? Does anybody have any potential solutions? Keep in mind that using Firefox is not an option because it's been outlawed in my department, and similarly I'm not in IT here and I have no control over the firewall or changing anything on it.
Not being able to get to any secure sites in Safari is a real pain. I had to use Firefox just to post this, because it required a secure sign on. On all these machines everything is fully upgraded through 10.4.11, including Safari 3.1.1. Anything to even point me in the right direction would be helpful. Thanks.

I may not have a solution, but I can tell you that HTTPS works fine for me from behind my corporate firewall (Safari 3.1.1, OS X 10.4.11). If there's a proxy server needed (there is for me, and that's something you seem to have investigated with your IT department) I assume you have the setting for that enabled in System Preferences > Network > active connection > Proxies tab; also, if the box for HTTPS is checked and you are not behind a proxy server, the connection will fail, so UNcheck the box.
Note that FireFox uses it's own proxy settings (Preferences > Advanced tab > Network tab > Settings button), bypassing the OS X network prefs.
Hope this helps...

  • Firewall Rules for Printing and Scanning through Windows Firewall

    Hello,
I am having trouble determining the Ports, Programs, and Services required for printing and scanning with my AIO.
I am using Windows Firewall in Windows 7, and am only allowing certain rules in and out.
I know the firewall is the problem, for when I disable it, everything works fine.
Which rules are required for printing and scanning through the firewall?

    4th Bump,
Is there anyone who can help me with this?
As I said before, other printer manufacturers such as Lexmark and Brother provide this exact information.
Why doesn't hp have a document for this? Does everyone just disable their firewall or open every port?

  • Connect to Server HTTPs through Proxy Server Problem

I am trying to connect through a company proxy via port 8080 to a https connection on a server so that it can mount on a desktop. Using 10.4.11 on Mac Pro
The connection works http through the company network and works http and https through my home network. The company require we use secure connections or something they will supply which will be out of date and clunky to use. I am using FullSwitch as a workflow so need the volume to mount.
    Basically I do the following:
    Go
    Connect to Server
    type address https://??????????????????/???????
I then get a Proxy Auth where I put my domain, user name and password
A certificate is then returned and I press continue
It then attempts to pass through the proxy tunnel to connect but just keeps going and going......
It should come up at this point with the server login but it doesn't
We are told by the IT team which only supports PCs that it is then that the Mac tries to create 2000+ connections but doesn't just creates lots of network traffic.
In between us and the proxy we sit behind a firewall but are told that there are no rules to stop https etc. I can connect to the site through Safari via https but as I need to upload files I need to be able to mount via https as a volume
Are there any suggestions as to what the issue may be or questions that I can try and ask IT to gather more info?
    Many thanks

Many thanks for your reply. We can use ftp but can not tunnel sftp through the proxy.
As I use fullswitch for automation I would like to keep the simplicity of mounting the server as files can be uploaded easily. Currently using http no problems but am being forced to use https from IT Security and of course being in a large corporation with only 35 Macs they say they don't support Macs and hey you have to do it our way or else. Driving me mad.
Sorry for going off on one but it is so frustrating as the supplier we are sending to wants the files the way we currently send them as they have their system workflow but my company wants us to use their sftp system that is clunky for in and out going file connections forcing suppliers to go to our sftp servers and not us supplying to them.....................
Right then I currently use Transmit with Type 7 on the proxy type for FTPing files using FTP Protocol not SFTP and have no problems going to the sites we have asked to get specific access to (again takes 2-14 days to get all the firewall rules changed to allow access to new ftp sites we are given, very efficient working practice)
So as you can see I really want to get the https working as it is the best option for workflow if IT security want us to secure.
Many thanks, again sorry for my ranting

  • Renew activation error behind corporate firewall and proxy

    Hi all,
I have come to the end of my first month for CC subscription and have been getting the following popup saying that my subscription (to CC) has expired and unable to connect to the internet.
I have followed all the step by step instructions at http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-network-issues.html with no success.
My computer is on the corporate network and has both a local firewall and a corporate firewall and proxy. According to our IT HelpDesk, the local firewall is not the issue, and they suggested asking here in the Adobe Forums for advice on how to make this work.
I also tried clicking the Subscription Manager link in the popup, but it doesn't take me to any page where I can activate the CC applications. Is there a way to manually activate them? I will have access stopped by Monday and I need continued use of the applications.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    cheers, Pete

Cotton_Pete please point your I.T. department to the Adobe Creative Cloud Service Access Documentation for IT section at    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/creativesuite/enterprisedeployment.html.  They can find documentation which will allow your I.T. department to properly configure your network for Adobe subscription and perpetual products.

  • Whenever I try to open up Firefox, it says that it's unable to connect, however, my internet connection is fine and I can still open up Internet Explorer. I already allowed Firefox through my firewall.

My internet connection is fine, I already allowed Firefox through my firewall. This is the first time it had ever happened and it happened suddenly, out of nowhere.

Try "Firefox connection settings" in [[Server not found]]
You can find the connection settings in Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection<br />
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select No Proxy
You can also try to remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

    * [[Server not found]]

  • RV042 opens ports 80 and 443 when HTTPS enabled in firewall

I recently installed an RV042 v1.1 vpn router (older hardware revision but using the latest available firmware 1.3.12.19-tm) and set up VPN access with the QuickVPN client.  QuickVPN requires that the HTTPS setting be enabled under the Firewall options, so I did.  I then scanned our static IP with grc.com's ShieldsUP! to check for open or non-stealthed ports and discovered that ports 80 and 443 show as wide open, while port 113 is closed but not stealthed.  If I disable the HTTPS setting under Firewall, then ports 80 and 443 become stealthed.  Is there any way to use QuickVPN and keep these ports stealthed?
    Thank you!
    Tim

Solved this by forwarding ports 80, 113 and 443 to an unused internal IP address.  Tested QuickVPN after doing this and am still able to log on AND have a full stealth rating from ShieldsUP!

  • How to allow Flash, Reader, and Shockwave installations through the firewall?

When I allow a single machine to full access through the firewall on port 80, all three products install flawlessly. I am trying to narrow this down and only open the specific IP ranges used by adobe. Does anyone know which ones need to be allowed for this to work? Also, I do know about the standalone files that can be downloaded and then installed to avoid the firewall issue, but I would like to allow all users who bring their own devices to install these products. With the below IP address open through port 80, I am able to install Flash almost every time, but Reader and Shockwave are less reliable. Thank you for any help you can provide.

I have a method that works for FLASH player, but am trying to come up with a method for the other 2 myself.  To automate flash player, I created a Policy and added the following:
Under Computer Config, Prefrences, Windows Setting, Files I created a new File Item.
I set Action = Replace, Created a Source File named mms.cfg* (more below) and have the destination file as systemroot%\System32\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg (or %systemroot%\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg for x64)
I used notepad to edit the mms.cfg, and used the following in the body:
    AutoUpdateDisable=0
    SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1
    AutoUpdateInterval=0
My non-admin users now update flash in the background silently and automatically.

    Hello Chandra,
you can activate SSL in the J2EE engine and then you have both Protocolls avaliable. The documentaiton can be found at <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/f1/2de3be0382df45a398d3f9fb86a36a/frameset.htm">Configuring the Use of SSL on the SAP J2EE Engine</a>.

  • Safari crash when using HTTPS through ISA 2006 proxy

    Hi,
I have been struggling for a few days (well, since I got Leopard) with a problem that I have finally reduced to a being solely related to using an ISA server 2006 as an HTTPS proxy.
It works fine with a 2004 proxy and it works fine through HTTP on an ISA 2006 proxy but if I try to access any HTTPS content through ISA 2006 Safari crashes.
    Note- I have carried out the following debugging actions;
    1- Removing InquisitorX
    2- Rebooting
    3- Running SW update
    4- Resetting Safari
    5- Resetting my entire Keychain
6- Creating a new user account
7- Reinstalling Safari from the Leopard DVD
    Nothing changed the behaviour.
I did find someone else reporting this issue in; http://hinkle.wordpress.com/2007/10/27/leopard-problems-active-directory-integra tion/
I will post a crashlog in a second. Anyone know anything about this? There are other MAC users in the company who do not seem to have this issue.

First of all I'm running Safari on my Leopard
This computer is on a corporate network behind ISA Server 2006
I'm able to Authenticate to go to the internet but when I try to go to a secure website (example https://www.bankofamerica.com )My browser Crashes.
I was expecting the new release of Safari to fix this but I'm still having the same issue.
Looks like the problem is the way this browser handles secure connection requests from behind a corporate firewall.
Any one has a clue how to fix this?
I havent been able to find any acceptable fixes for this problem (with exception of running a proxy server on this computer such as squid)
......>Upgraded to latest version today and secure web browsing is still broken
    Thanks ..

  • Http through dmz

    Hi,
I am currently writing an application that use http to access an external website and retrieve some data.
Our network having a dmz. What is the best way to go about doing this?
Open ports from internal to dmz and dmz to the internet site?
    Please advise.
    Many thanks.

You don't open ports on a DMZ host - the purpose of the DMZ is to have an "open" machine, therefore, you can't open a jar that is already open, can you?
How you go forward will be based on the setup of the network and the corporate policies.
If your host sits behind the firewall, then you need to have the port and IP of the remote hosts (web sites) accessible through the firewall for your host.
You don't need to do any connection peering between your host and the DMZ and the DMZ to the website. That would simply turn your DMZ into a firewall/proxy.

  • Portal access through a firewall

    Hi there!
Having the default installtion of R2 on a single W2K box, what's the minimal procedure to make this configuration available through a firewall?
I've opened ports 7777-7778 but fail when trying to logon via SSO (host.domain.com:7777/pls/orasso)
Have I missed out to open another port or am I forced to follow the steps of setting up a reversing proxy to have portal-access outside the firewall?
    Cheers
    /Staffan

If they are on different servers, then both are listening on the 7777 port, and you will have to change one of them to use another port (assuming your firewall can only port forward a port to only one host).
If you are running both instances on the same server, then your SSO is accessible via 7777 and your midtier would be on 7778, so your setup as described should be enough (I do the same thing).
If they are running on the one machine, can you access the SSO/INF server directly? http://inf.domain.com:7777 and then http://inf.domain.com:7777/pls/orasso ?

  • Accessing XSD Through a Firewall

I am trying to deploy a Web Service that has a reference in its XSD to an external XSD located on www.w3.org. My Weblogic server is inside of our corporate firewall and I get an HTTP error when it trys to access the external XSD during installation of my EAR file.
What is the appropriate way to resolve this?
    (Note: Using WL 10.3)

In the advanced web services manual: [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12840_01/wls/docs103/pdf/webserv_adv.pdf] , there's information about using "XML Catalogs", which would allow you to substitute references to external schemas with references to local copies of those schemas. This might be what you need.

  • Can JMQ 2.0 work through a firewall?

We are interested in using JMQ for B2B communication for messages to be sent
through firewalls from one enterprise to another. Does JMQ 1.1 support this or
does JMQ 2.0? If JMQ 2.0 is the only option, can you please specify when it
will be released, as of now it is only in beta version? I would appreciate your
prompt response as we are in the process of evaluating each vendor.

JMQ 1.1 only supports a TCP based transport, and could only work across a firewall
if that fiewall was specially configured to let the communication through. JMQ 2.0
will support use of HTTP as a transport, and this will eliminate the need for
special administration for any firewall that will naturally allow HTTP through. JMQ
2.0 is in Beta now, and is scheduled to be available as an FCS product early in
    Q2CY01.

  • IChat video conference corporate firewall help please!

    Hi Folks,
I'm trying to get an iChat video conference going, and I keep getting the pesky Error -8 problem. Here's the info i have:
    - My computer is an intel iMac. The other computer is an intel MacBook Pro, both have all software updates installed and built-in iSight cameras.
    - I am behind a corporate firewall. The other computer is not, but is on a very speedy internet connection.
    - Both mac firewalls are completely off.
    - I had corporate IT disable the firewall on the IP address of this computer (not even just the proper ports, but entirely disable it), and it's still giving me connection errors.
Anybody got any idea what the heck I can do to get these computers to play nice?
    Thanks!
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi loudguitars,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions
I apologise for any delay in getting to you.
iChat requires that ports are open in a modem or any interveening router. This is in addition to any Firewall the device may have.
These same ports need opening in any router or modem.
In addition to this the System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab speed setting neds to match your download speed or a max of 1.5Mb/T1/Intranet/LAN if you are faster.
This will sometimes return error 8 although error 22 is more likely.
Error 8 effectively tells you that the connection can not be made because the ports are not open.
This in itself can be because of NAT problems.
IF you have a Router and a separate moem that both use NAT (Port Forwarding, Port Triggering or DMZ) in combo at your end or yor Buddy does there will be problems. The Log tells you little as to which problem it actually is.
If your ISP offers a VoIP service it may block port 5060 until you pay for their service. (Many ISPs believe only Internet phone services use this protocol).
In further addition if you and your Buddy have not Used NAT more than once at your respective ens it can be that if you are both still using a method that involves NAT that the two devices still don't "Play Nicely" due to the fact there are about 6 different ways of doing NAT and you may have two device that just don't get on.
If you have UPnP then use that.
Note: If the ISP NATs the service to you (normally with NON static, DHCP issued IP addresses) then this will count as One NAT at your end.
Apple did change iChat to version 3.1.5 with the 10.4.7 update. It was supposed to help in this area but I would say they moved in the wrong direction.
If you have a modem that has QUality of Service (QoS) or Denial of Service Attack protection and the settings for this are something you can alter then consider increasing that size of the amount of data that can get through as this can impinge of iChat due to the amount of data in a Video conference.
