  • Can print to shared Canon iP4300 via Bonjour - but not with Canon driver

I've searched the forums and therefore know roughly what the problem is, but still need some concrete info please...
Have finally managed to share my Canon iP4300 connected to iMac (10.5.2) via USB and print to it from XP, using Bonjour for Windows. However... when I run the printer assisntent it finds the printer but only offers me the choice of a generic driver. The driver turns out to be labelled "HP Color LaserJet 4550 PS". A postscript driver?!? Well, it works, but I'd really prefer the proper Canon driver (which is already installed - I previously had the printer connected to the PC).
Yet, when I select this driver retrospectively (from the printer-share properties dialogue), I cant print. This, if I understand correctly is because the Canon driver doesn't support Bonjour?
So is there anything I can do? Eg. I've read about the Gimp drivers, but they're only for OSX right?
Maybe this generic "HP" driver will be adequate (haven't printed anything properly yet) but would like to know if anybody has suggestions other than contacting Canon (which I will do anyway).
    Cheers

I Have the same Problem as you,
I Have the Canon MP180, and i have the driver on my windows XP Laptop
But when i try to connect to it, using Bonjour (as the printer is connected to the mac) it uses a HP Color LaserJet 4550 PS driver even though its Canon
Does anyone know how to use the proper driver.
It works ok using the HP Driver, but the quality of the printouts from the windows XP laptop seem rubbish
    Many Thanks
    Alex
P.S if you got this working, can you send me a message back.

  • Canon ip4300: suddenly no duplex printing

I have a Powerbook G4 15in running 10.5.8 (the latest OS this non-Intel machine will run) and a desktop iMac 24in which I've recently upped to 10.6.4 from 10.5.x. The iMac is linked via a cable to a Canon ip4300 inkjet, and the Powerbook prints to that wirelessly via sharing on the iMac.
Since upping the iMac to 10.6, when I've tried to print duplex pages from the Powerbook, it nonetheless insisted on printing single pages, despite the settings. Must be the driver needs updating, I thought. So I downloaded the latest 5.83 driver from the Canon site, to the Powerbook, and installed it. Now I don't even get a duplex option in the print dialog on the Powerbook!
    Can anyone help?

I'm pleased to say Pahu kindly put me right on this, in the 10.6 section (the question covered 10.5 and 10.6, so I posted in both sections). See...

  • Canon iP4300 and Leopard ...

Has anyone successfully got this printer to work with Leopard? I found some drivers at the Canon site and installed them but no joy. The printer doesn't come up when you go through the 'add printer' process.
    Can anyone help?
For what its worth, the Canon 'Helpline' was one of the worst experiences I've had when needing technical support. The guy admitted to knowing nothing about Macs or OSX, said no-one else there did either, and that anything to do with the computer (i.e getting their drivers set up in it to run their printer) was a 'third-part issue' and basically my problem to resolve.
Apparently canon are sending me a customer feedback email. I'm very much looking forward to filling that one in.

    Hello Ian,
If the printer is connected directly to your Mac via USB, then after installing the software you generally do not need to add the printer. When you connect its USB cable to your Mac, then the printer should automatically appear in your Printers list. If this doesn't occur, then it indicates that the driver software did not install correctly, or you have some other software on your Mac that is interfering with the Canon driver software, or your USB cable is no good, or all of the above.
For a USB connected printer, when you select to Add, the printer name should be seen in the Default browser view. Do you see the printer?
If you do see the printer, then you can select it and the Print Using menu should automatically change to Canon IJ Printer. If this doesn't occur, then soomething has gone wrong with the Canon driver installation. Therefore, please follow my steps for removing and reinstalling the Canon driver.
    1. Open the System Preferences > Print & Fax. Move your mouse to the Printer list and hold down the Control key. Click in the empty Printers list and the click on Reset Printing System.
    2. Close Print & Fax
    3. Go to Library > Printers > Canon and delete the contents of the BJPrinter folder.
    4. Go to Library > Receipts and delete the Canon driver package file, if one exists. The file name will show Canon iP4300 xxx.pkg
    5. Go to Library > Preferences and delete the Canon folder.
    6. Go to HD > Users > Shared > Canon and delete the BJPrinter folder.
    7. Empty the Trash
    8. Unplug the Canon USB cable and restart the Mac
    9. Install the latest version of the Canon driver, which according to the Canon AU web site is v5.8.3.
    10. Once the driver installation is complete, go to Applications > Utilities and open Disk Utility. Run the Repair Disk Permissions option. Close Disk Utility when this has completed.
    11. Reconnect the Canon USB cable. Then open Print & Fax and see if the Canon printer is listed. If it is, try a test print.
    12. If the printer is not listed, click the plus ( + ) button.
    13. Select the Default view and select the Canon printer connected via the USB port. The Print Using menu should automatically change to Canon IJ Printer. Click Add to complete the process.
Please reply if the procedure above does not help you.

  • Copying or installing paper specific colorsync profiles for my canon ip4300

I have the specific colorsync profiles for the various types of paper loaded for my canon IP4300 on one of my imacs that i moved upstairs. I have one of the new 2.8 C2D 24inch imacs now connected and i want to print from it to the Canon. the problem is that i do not recall how i got the profiles onto the other mac. i want to copy the profiles and get them onto the new imac. I cannot seem to find them after looking at EVERY library file on the system and searching for the profile names etc. Please help me know where to look and how i can get them moved over or get the profiles from somewhere and install them. they are not on the disc that came with the printer.
As a side i know i can print across the network but it requires that i go up and down the stairs and across the house to check output.

Normally, they would be in the /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ folder. They may also have been installed in the Profiles folder of your user account, but not as likely.
Sometimes though, they are buried in with the printer drivers themselves. As an example, the Epson 4000 we use copied all of the profiles it came with into the /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ folder. We didn't want to use the provided profiles, so we deleted all of them. To our surprise, they all continued to show up in the lists of profiles. Turned out they were also in a package file named SPro4000.plugin in the /Library/Printers/EPSON/ folder.
Have you contacted Canon to see if they could help you locate them?

  • Macbook Pro not recognizing printer Canon iP4300

    Hello
I have been having problems with my Canon iP4300 Pinter. Once upon a time it worked, now it doesn't. I only use it to print direct to DVD's. I have another printer attached which is an all-in-one Brother for my main printing, faxing etc. (unfortunately it doesn't print direct to DVD tho). I have tried reinstalling the drivers but now mt MB Pro won't recognize the printer at all. If I plug it in to my USB hub I get a message stating "Over Current Usage" or something like that. I try plugging it in to my USB port on the MB Pro left or right side and still nothing. When I go thru Printer Settings it checks for new drivers and still nothing.
    What am I doing wrong?
Can I connect printer with a different cable? Firewire?
    Please help!!

    Hi.
Try a different USB cable. I had troubles with USB printer cables a couple of times, giving me the weirdest problems.
If that doesn't work, try uninstalling the IP4300 driver: move the /Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter folder to the Trash and empty it, then download and install the latest IP4300 driver from the Canon download page.
Plug the printer directly to the Macbook Pro, or get a powered USB Hub.
    Good Luck.

  • Canon ip4300 printer not working since restore of back up to replacement hard drive

I have submitted a question to Canon, but thought I'd see if anyone has had this issue here.
I had to replace my hard drive due to a failure.
Then I restored my iMac from a TimeMachine backup. That worked fine.
Now though the Canon ip4300 printer I was using successfully before the new hard drive and restore is no longer working. The print status window says i need to install software to use this printer.
However, it definitely worked before the restore.
Canon does not appear to have any drivers for OSX 10.10. However, I was hoping to get this older printer to work again since it was working on Monday just fine before the drive failure.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

What system were you running before the drive failed?
First try the fix discussing in this Apple document: OS X Yosemite: Reset the printing system
    Next, if you have Time Machine backups try the following;
1 - go to the HD/Library/Printers folder and select the Canon folder.
2 - enter Time Machine and go back to just before the drive crashed.
3 - select the Canon folder and restore it.
4 - run Disk Utility to repair disk permissions.
    5 - try the printer.
This is what I had to do when I upgraded my system for my older Canon i850 printer.

  • Canon IP4300 utility unavailable in Snow Leopard (via airport express)

    Hello,
I´ve tried to install my Canon IP4300 trough Airport Express in Snow Leopard. It ´s recognized by Airport Utility and it is listed in the Print & Fax panel of System Preferences. It prints the test page without problems.
However i´m unable to access the Printer Utility (from the options & supplies tab in the printer preferences panel) when connected through Airport Express. The printer isn´t listed neither in the USB nor in the Network options in the drop down list.
I´ve tried to connect the printer directly to my mac via USB and everything works as expected. I have access to the Printer Utility as it appears listed under the USB dropdown selection in the Utility tab.
But how do i access it trough Airpot Express? Should n´t it be listed under the Network in the Utility tab? (This is used to clean the printer´s head/noozles and to perform other maintenance operations).
I´m using the latest drivers available from Canon (USA):10.26.0.0
    Thank you.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
The inability to open the Printer Utility for a printer when connected to the USB port of an Airport device, such as Express, is a known limitation and documented by Apple in these articles.

  • Wireless printing problems with Canon iP4300, but USB printing ok

My MacBook Pro is setup for wireless printing with a printer(Canon Pixma iP4300) connected to my other PC Desktop. The only problem is that when I print anything all the text and images are miniaturized and squished about a quarter of a page large into the upper left corner of an 8.5x11 paper. I installed all the programs that came with the printer installation disk and when I connect my MacBook directly to the printer via USB everything prints out just fine.
I suspect the problem is with the selection of printer model when you go to "Printer Setup" in System Preferences. The existing list of Canon printer models given to me by the computer does not contain anything specific for my iP4300. I simply chose the option "BJC 4300 Gimp-Print v.5.0.0-beta 2". Does anyone know of a way where I could add to that list of printer models or is there another way to get my wireless printing to work normally? Thanks to anyone who can help.

I have the same printer and network printing is a pain. Canon decided not to include a network specific driver for this printer.
You can try getting the latest version of the gimp-print drivers. The latest version has better support for ip4300. If it's worth it to you, PrintFab drivers have been working for me but PrintFab isn't free.
The latest Gimp-print (Gutenprint) drivers are here: http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3
    Hope that helps.

  • Please HELP me install my Canon ip4300 printer drivers

    Hi,
I just bought a Canon ip 4300 printer and I can’t get my computer
    (ibook G4 14 in 1.0GHz) to install/recognize the driver.
I tried the installation CD, and downloading the latest driver from Canon.
    But no luck.
When I go to the Printer Set Up Utility and try to add the printer, the computer can find the printer over the usb cable. But when I select it, it can't auto find the driver. It just gives me a selection of outdated Canon gimp print drivers.
I called Canon and they walked me through installing the drivers in the root user account... but that didn't do anything either. They said I would have to call Apple -- that it was likely something to do with permissions???
Since I don't have any Apple support left, I came here.
Please, if anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them.
    Thanks.

  • Canon iP4300 green/magenta cast only on optical discs

    Hello,
I've encountered very strange problem with my printer.
It only occurs while choosing to print on optical disk.
For testing purpose I'm printing rectangular black to white gradient. After printing I get strong green cast on gradient and magenta glow or shadow on upper and left (darker) sides of gradient.
I know it sounds unbelievable but I'm not over exaggerating problem.
Most mysterious thing is that it happens only when choosing to print on CD/DVD.
I also checked printing on circle of plain paper (same result).
Problem make printing on optical media unusable.
I was trying to print from two different Mac Pro's and received exactly same problem.
On both Macs I'm using Snow Leopard (not upgraded form Leopard) 10.6.2 and latest drivers downloaded through Software Update (on second computer drivers probably where installed from downloaded drivers from Canon's webpage).
I'm printing on DVD rarely but it's important door me. I don't remember if it ever was fine since move to Snow Leopard.
While on Leopard I didn't encountered such problem.
It is also application independent - same result from InDesign Photoshop and Preview.
Has any one have any idea what is going on?
Thank You in advance for help.
    Best Regards

Canon's driver have option to print on CDs and I was using this ability for more then 100 disks (probably only in Leopard).
I've downloaded CD-LabelPrint and got same issue.
I also checked Gutenprint driver prints without my primary issue but introduces new problems.
It loads CD tray to fare inside printer and it hits limiter on the CD tray it is very unpleasant view.
Besides it doesn't hold color correction settings in presets.
Final inconvenience is that it allows only 600 x 600 dpi printing.
Thank you for Your ideas. They seemed that they will help.
    I'm looking forward more help.
Thank You in advance for Your time.

  • Wireless connection to canon ip4300

How do i connect my macbook pro to ip4300 without a cable?

Have you tried resetting the printing system?
Not sure what version of OSX you are running but try this:
System Preferences>Print & Fax (10.6) or Print & Scan (10.7), Control+Click or right click on one of the printers on the left of the window, or if there aren't any printers, in the white space and select "Reset printing system...'. All printers will be deleted and added again. Sometimes helps fix printing problems.

  • Canon ip4300 - Printing Properties, Duplex Mode

Hi! Where can I activate the Duplex Mode? At Tiger it was no Problem, by using the standard driver. When I clicked on print button in menue (or APPLE + p), there were several options, for example the duplex mode. At Leopard there are no options, there ist just a print button. I use the newest driver from the Canon webpage. What can I do? Does anybody know the problem?

Have you used the blue disclosure triangle next to the printer's name to expand the Print dialog?

I have a MacBook and AirPort. I want to be able to print wirelessly, but my attempts so far have been abortive.
Is there a simple, intuitive way to print (without using a cable)?

This printer does not have wireless printer capability. Therefore, one must use wired printing only.

  • Canon IP4300 won't print

    Hello,
I have the printer mentioned above and though it did once, weeks ago, now it will not print anymore. I have changed every cartridge (since their lights were flashing) but that did nothing. The printer applet in KDE tells me the job is being processed (for near two hours now), same thing the cups webinterface says.
Where would I start looking to tackle this problem?

Not sure what happens here. I deleted the printer, added it again (I had it as a Gutenprinter in the first place) and it shows the job that has been laying around canceled for the longest while now. The job actually got startet again automatically but was stuck and now that I cancelled it it reads (surprise) "cancelled" but won't get off the list.
And the printers little light is still slowly blinking as IF it were actually processing a job...
This is the error_log for tonights attempt. Can someone read some sense into that?
