10.4.11 messed up a number of applications

Anyone know an answer to this? I let Apple give me the update for 10.4.11. Now the following apps won't open or work: Spotlight, Finder, iCal, Systems Preference. Any solution to fixing this problem?

Have you tried the free utility software Onyx?
It's a free download. I think you have to have Xll installed on your computer but I am not sure.
Xll is for downloading opensource software.
I used it regularly. I did fix alot on my computer. The Apple Tech people tell you to do a regular maintenance and recommend this software.
If the requirments are that you have Xll installed on your computer, you can take your Tiger Disc and install only it and it would be on your computer.
I use a lot of open source software...and it's free.
Onyx is very good. Just google it...or look in Apple downloads.

Using my Grey Install CD i ran the optional install of just the application package, however the applications still respond in the same way. "You can't use this version of the application _______ with this version of Mac OS X"
What is still baffaling me here is that i haven't ever upgraded these apps in the app store above Mac OS X 10.6.8. My reinstallation of the operating system was done via the original Snow Leapard Install CD. Prior to the reinstallation i was running 10.6.8 with all applications working.
My issue here is this computer is within an education computer lab so simply going out and buying Lion may not be an option.
Additional information that may shed light:
Identical computer running within the same computer lab is using successfully:
     Mac OS X
     10.6.8
     Iphoto '11
     Version 9.2.3
Reason for operating system Re-installation:
-CrashReporter showed that the Dock continually crashed eating up a large % of CPU making the computer virtually unusable.

500?? What are there so many files?
The problem is that the CAB format only allows for 300 files maximum, so there's nothing that we can do about that I'm afraid.

Hiroshi - I have not encountered a technical limit on the number of applications in an appset. As a practical reality, performance and system administration will dictate how many apps an appset may contain.
On a related note, you could theoretically have more than 20 dimensions in an app. However, I have only worked with one client who asked (needed?) an app with more than 12 dimensions. In that case, usability was an issue due to the complexity in submitting data to an app with that many dimensions.

What is th maximum number of applications that can exist in a workspace . Is this documented ?I'm not aware of any such limit (although I don't do a lot of workspace administration). An arbitrary limit on the number of applications in a workspace would be a useless way to manage resources.
It would be a better idea to describe the nature of any specific problem you are having, rather than asking hypothetical questions.

Actually, there is no limit of having multiple applications in an appset, neither there is any optimal value for that. It all depends on the size of your database. More the number of applications, you have, more the space required by your database. So, till the time your database is able to support that, its fine.
May be some experts can go deeper into this.

Masking Page number in Application web link

Is there any way to mask page numbe(s) in Apex Application web link.
For example, http://<server name>/pls/apex/f?p=111 is the web address to access my Apex application and it defaults to home page, if I run this application. After that, if I navigate to any other page(example page number 200) within the application, Page number will appends to the above web-link as below
http://<server name>/pls/apex/f?p=111:*200*:3080776628071182::NO
Is there any way, can we mask page number/application number in application web-link.

Hi Manik,
The only way that I know to mask a page is to use a page alias. For example page 200 is page aliased as HOME.
So where ever you would call pagee 200 from a application liunk you would use HOME instead of 200. I am not sure how to mask the application number. I would have to test that out.

then click on display.
then go to utilities tab >> where used list or press shift + ctrl +f3
there list of program will show .
choose your program name

Installing Adobe tryout messed up a number of icons in Preferences

Hi all,
Yesterday I installed "tryout" (i.e. demo) versions of Adobe Photoshop (and ImageReady). I've noticed that many of the icons in my Preferences folder have been hijacked and the Get Info box refers to them as "Adobe ImageReady Preferences" files, even though they belong to unrelated programs (e.g. Equinox, Toast, Silverkeeper).
Deleting the prefs file and launching the program just creates a new prefs file with the Adobe icon instead of the correct one.
I tried repairing permissions to no avail.
I tried going to the Get Info box, selecting the icon at the top and hitting Delete but nothing changed. (This has worked for me in the past.)
When I open the Get Info box and go to the Edit menu, "Cut" is grayed out and not selectable.
Does anyone know a way to restore my original icons?

Based on my experience the past week with the Tryout, their web site (in an attempt to contact them), their tech support (who gave me a number to call which had me on hold for a long time, then hung up) and now with the highjacking of my Prefs icons, I'm sure their software is not long for my machine.
Unfortunately, right now I need to do a project that requires professional print-ready CMYK and Gimp is not yet (truly) CMYK ready (and Apple doesn't yet make this type of software).
There has got to be a way to reclaim my icons in the interim.

Mess up phone number

I have owned Blackberry Q10 for almost 3 months now and so far it is running well. Recently I encountered weird things with my phone. I have 2 phone numbers in my contact list that exactly the same except their carrier code. For instance: there is one as **Removed** (A) and the other is **Removed** (B) ( I'm living in Vietnam by the way). The problem rises whenever I want to text one of these numbers. If I was texting (A) and wanted to text (B), i started new text conversation for (B) but the phone kept me on convesation with (A) and the content i wanted to send (B) ended up sending to (A). I ended up have to delete contact (A) and its text conversation to start (B)'s. And I must do the process again if I need to text (A). I tried to restart several times but the problem still occurs. I have Snap app on my phone to download some apps from android, that's all. I am very appreciated if anyone could help me with this. Thank you very much.

numbers. When I sort the data set however, say by clicking on the

How should I fix this?

My intent was that folks would sort the "real" data set
instead of the "paged view", which is why your solution works
properly. But, since this seems to be a stumbling block for lots of
folks, I went ahead and added support for sorting the paged view.
This support should appear in 1.6, but I posted the patch in this
post.

When we r deploying any web dynpro application , if there was any error in that WDP application its showing an error page the list of errors with HOST name n patch level n OS details n so many n with the line number of that error in the code.. Normally.
But as my requirement i need to restrict the HOST,OS ,PATCH details in this list to avoid the security issues.
If anybody have any idea plz share with me...
