10.4.11 Now Virtual PC won't connect to the Internet!

Since updating to 10.4.11 my Virtual PC (v7.0.1 - XP SP1) won't connect to the internet. I've been right the way though the trouble shooting guide with no success.
Can anyone help me?

Any new Gadgets Q, I would suggest updating to v7.0.3. The newest rev.

  • Hyper-V Virtual Server won't connect to the internet.

    Hi,
I've just setup my first Hyper-V virtual PC with Windows 7 Home Premium installed on the virtual host. I've setup a Virtual Switch and added it to the VM, but the VM is not even detecting the connection let alone connecting to the internet.
I've attached screenshots of my configuration, any help would be apprechiated!

Because you have a Physical server the hyperV host with that adapter and now a VM using the same adapter you have two devices on that WAN network, does you ISP allow more than one computer connected to the WAN, i'm assuming WAN means it's the public
internet not a firewall plugged into a switch and the server also plugged into switch i.e. a LAN.
The proper way to connect only a VM directly to public internet is to do exactly what you did but disable the virtual LAN adapter on the hyper v host, this prevents public access to your hyperv host.
Because tis machine has only one adapter it's not likely it's running as your firewall so my assumption may be totally off.

  • Just switched from Qwest DSL to CableOne cable internet and now my mac won't connect to the internet.

I've spent 2 hours on the phone with CableOne and they can't figure our why my MacPro isn't connecting to the internet through their Arris modem. I can connect to my network and see all my computers... so the ethernet port is working but the internet won't connect. I've tried Safari and Firefox browsers. My PC connects using the same ethernet cord with no problems. I've also tried connecting the computer directly to the modem with no results. And the ethernet port says it's connected and gives me an ip address. I'm out of ideas at this point. Any suggestions?

I downloaded iOS 8.2 on my iPhone 5s 32 GB and now my phone won't connect to the iTunes store, and my iTunes Match is turned off and won't turn back on... I'm trying to log in from Settings > iTunes & App Store... not working...  I have reset the phone twice, tried via cell service, and rebooted my wireless router..

As per the Apple iCloud status page, they are having issues. Do not make changes at your end.

My iPhone 5c won't connect to the internet so now I can't download iOS 8

Connect the device to the computer and iTunes and update that way. Why won't the phone connect to the Internet?

Have you tried to reboot your router? Unplug it, count to 30, plug it back in and let it reboot. Also you may want to go into your settings on your iPad and 'reset network settings'.
In case the update messed something up, letting the devices reboot sometimes helps.

  • My iPod Touch 2nd generation won't connect to the Internet

After restoring my iPod Touch 2nd gen to factory settings because that's what iTunes advised me to do after doing the iTunes update a week ago, my iPod won't connect to the internet anymore. I was able to connect to our wifi but it won't go to any website, to iTunes, etc. I'm 100% sure the problem isn't our wifi because I'm using it right now with my laptop so it's not the wireless problem. Before restoring my iPod to factory settings iti has always worked and I never had a problem connecting it. I tried restoring it again but it still didn't work. I already also reset our router but still no luck. I wish someone could help me asap!! Thank you.

    You can try:
    - reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off an then backon your router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • My 1st Generation time capsule won't connect to the internet thru a new motorola sb6121 - get continuously flashing yellow light. Using a router in between the modem and capsule yields good but slower connection to internet. Any thoughts?

My 1st Generation time capsule won't connect to the internet thru a new motorola sb6121 - get continuously flashing yellow light. Using a router in between the modem and capsule yields good but slower connection to internet. Any thoughts?

    Thanks for your response
Let me give the history - I started with an Apple Express being fed thru a D-Link  EBTR 2310 cable Router from an RCA DCM315 Modem (Pure). Comcast service all the way.
Got the 1st generation TC in 2008 and merely replaced the Airport Express with the TC. Worked ok
A year or two ago I did try removing the modem and feeding the TC directly from the modem. Resulted in the same condition I have now - Continuous flashing amber on the TC. So I put the router back in the chain.
Some time later, at the recommendation of a Comcast rep, I replaced the router with (a Belkin F5D 5231) to see if speed and dropout problems would be improved. I thought it helped some at the time but now I am not so sure.
Last week I decided to see if a new modem would help with download speeds. So I got another pure cable modem (Motorola SB 6121- high on the Comcast recommended list).
Got up and running easily with Comcast help and with the modem connected directly to a computer.
Next I put the TC in the link and again could not get past the TC continuing to flash amber. Although I did get connected to the internet with this configuration I lost connection two both of my printers - one connected by USB and the other wirelessly to the TC. Again everything works fine when I put the Belkin router back in the system.
    However with the router in there, the modem shows the downstream connection to be 10/100 ethernet speed. (Modem light changes color for indicating speeds.}
I have gone thru all of the combinations of powering down/ up, but all stays the same.
I can live with what I have but something still doesn’t seem right.
    Thanks again

  • My airport extreme shows a green light, but won't connect to the internet.

I have an airport extreme, and it stopped working one day, so I reseted it and it's not connecting to the internet now.  It's showing a green light, however, it won't connect to the internet. I live in an apartment complex, so I don't have a cable modem. The router is directly connected to the wall via ethernet. I had the ports checked by connecting the ethernet cord directly to the computer, and the internet is working fine. I tried resetting the router, but it still doesn't connect.

Your problem is typical Yosemite network.. just reboot the Time Capsule.. no luck reboot the network.. do a restart in correct order.. modem.. wait 2min.. TC .. wait 2min.. clients.
No luck then do a full reset of the TC and setup in a way that Yosemite can cope with.
Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 for basestation and TCwifi wireless name.
If the issue is wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round. ie plan on a first and second round of changes to fix this.. hopefully.. I will point out other steps that can be round2.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply with 1. but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. If the TC is main router you can skip this point. This is only an issue when the TC is bridged.
Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
    5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
    6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only. Do the same for ethernet if you use it.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
You might need to do some more work on the computer itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.
    Tell us how you go.
Someone posted a solution.. See this thread.
Macbook can't find Time Capsule anymore
Start from the bottom and work up.. I have a list of good network practice changes but I have avoided Yosemites bug heaven.
Yosemite has serious DNS bug in the networking application.. here is the lets say more arcane method of fixing it by doing a network transplant from mavericks.
    http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/01/why-dns-in-os-x-10-10-is-broken-and-what-yo u-can-do-to-fix-it/
Same thing applies to the Airport Extreme or the Express if used as router.. just replace TC in the instructions with AE.

  • My iPhone 5 won't connect to the Internet.

I have a factory unlocked iPhone 5, and I had my regular-sized SIM cut to fit the iPhone 5, since the nano SIM is not available yet in my country (Venezuela). The SIM works, I get messages, calls, etc. But it won't connect to the internet unless I'm on wi-fi. I've tried in different places, with full 3G signal, but it doesn't work. The weird thing about this is that I get Whatsapp messages (and I can send them as well), I get notifications from Instagram and Twitter, but it won't let me, say, enter my Twitter profile, or load Instagram pictures. It won't load any kind of internet content, neither with Safari nor Chrome.
The phone (or rather iOS 6) doesn't seem to have any option to edit the APN, so I researched a bit and found the iPhone Configuration Utility. I used it a couple of months before with an iPhone 3G to set an APN and it worked. Only this time, it wouldn't let me create and install a new profile on the iPhone 5. It would let me install the old profile I had for the Iphone 3G, which had the same APN settings I was trying to use now (both from the same carrier) but it didn't fix the internet issue. I also tried the Unlockit method, but it didn't work either.
What bothers me is that I've seen in a few websites screencaps of the Mobile Data screen, and it shows an option to configurate the APN settings in the phone itself, but mine's missing it.
I'd really appreciate if you could help me out, or at least give me a hint of what could be causing this. I've tried almost everything, and I've read a lot of posts here, but I haven't found anything useful. Thanks in advance.

In addition to what ChrisJ4203 said about cellular data, check your carriers website, it may need you to enter APN settings to allow internet access over cellular.
Also does normal telephone calling & SMS work? Disable wifi to avoid using iMessage as a test. If the SIM is damaged or blocked etc it may not work with cellular data, does the phone give you any error messages when powering on?
Another thing to try is to back up to iTunes & check for updates to iOS - sometimes a carrier update can restore the cellular network settings.

  • Itunes 8 won't connect to the internet. Connection is live

I recently upgraded to version 8 and now it won't connect to the internet. I ran diagnostics and my connection is ok but itunes won't connect. It says that the connection timed out but it pops that message up instantly so it doesn't even have a chance to connect or time out. Any help? I don't want to have to lose all my settings by uninstalling if I don't have to.

The #1 cluprit for no iTunes store connection after an upgrade is Norton.
Even though iTunes shows as being allowed in Norton, it really isn't for reasons we do not know. You have to go into Norton settings, take iTunes out, and put it back in the list. Also iTunes Helper. There are hundreds of posts about this in the itunes store forums.
    Here are Norton directions

  • HT4628 My Mac Air OSX10.8.5 won't connect to the internet as it says it has a self assigned IP address and thus cannot connect to the internet. I can only connect to a network by manually typing in the configuration specs. Please help.

My mac air OSX10.8.5 won't connect to the internet. It says it has a 'self assigned IP address and therefore cannot connect to the internet'. Network diagnostics is unable to the solve the problem. It happened suddenly for no reason and now I cannot connect except by typing in the configuration settings manually. Please help me!

Use the Airport Utility or log into your wireless device via http and ensure the DHCP/NAT service is enabled.  If accessing via HTTP, you will need to manually set an ip within your local subnet (eg: 192.168.0.x).

  • Safari won't connect to the internet (but computer is)

    Today,
None of our Macintosh (by Apple) devices will connect to the internet. Actually, only Safari says it won't connect to the internet.
If I run Terminal on our Macbook, I can ping yahoo.com, google.com, etc... Also, Skype works just fine. However, when we run Safari, no web page will load and we get the error screen saying that the computer is not connected to the internet. Running diagnostics (forget where it's located on the computer) says we are indeed connected (which I could tell from Skype and pinging).
Coincidentally, neither our iPhone or iPod can get to any web pages on Safari when connected to our wireless router. Using 3g network they access web pages fine. Our PC has no internet troubles today whatsoever.
Any idea why Safari doesn't work? Unfortunatley we don't have Firefox or Chrome on our Macbook to test it out, not sure how to download those without being able to access their respective web pages.
    Thanks!

Try turning off the router for 5 minutes, then turn it back on.
Restart your Mac as well as the iPhone and iPod.
If that doesn't help, on the Mac, go to /Library/Preferences/System Configuration
Move all the files from the System Configuration folder to the Trash.
Now on your iPhone and iPod tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings
See if Safari will load pages.
If not, on your Mac, go to System Prerferences - Security.
If the Firewall is turned on, turn that off. Restart your Mac, Try Safari again.
Since you can access the net with 3G, it's got to be your Wi-Fi.
System Preferences / Network / Assist Me is where you find Diagnostics.
Make sure all the light are green. If not, click Continue.
