10.4.11 to 10.5.2 MacBook upgrade - won't work !!!

Just bought for £25 from eBay: 10.5.2 MacBook installer Disc 1+2 - for my MacBook !
The Problem: When i insert the 10.5 disc, it tells me after the re-start: "Can't install 10.5 on this machine- click re-start" !!!! What ???
I have an MacBook 1.83 Gig/2 GigRam/120 HD, the installer Disc ARE for an MacBook, but what did do wrong ??? Can anybody give me some help why it won't install/upgrade ???

When you say "Installer Disk 1 + 2" I'm guessing you mean the disks that would ship with a new machine and not a retail version of OS X. The installer disks are machine specific. They will only work with the specific model and revision of the machine they shipped with. For example, the installer disks that shipped with the original Core Duo MacBooks will not work on the later released Core 2 Duo machines. The disks that shipped with the initial Core 2 Duo machines will not work on the later released Santa Rosa machines, etc. You would need to purchase the retail version of Leopard in order to upgrade your machine from Tiger to Leopard.

While there is a model check, I don't think the disk has the actual code you need for specific components. The disks that come with specific computers are pared down so that they can get all the bundled software on the disk with the OS. I don't know if it can be bypassed.

  • DVD Player on MacBook Pro won't work?

My DVD player on my MacBook Pro won't work! I can hear the sound of the video, but the actual image won't appear. Plus, I can't watch things on Youtube in full screen anymore because my computer won't show it. And finally, some of my images are very pixelated. I'm getting super frustrated that nothing will work. Please help me!

Many times, these types of problems can be 'fixed' by using a commerical DVD 'cleaning' kit (usually available at local electronics stores, Amazon, etc.). If 'cleaning' doesn't work, you may have a faulty SuperDrive. But I would try the cleaning method first, beofre taking your machine into an Apple Store or AASP.
    Good luck,

  • Macbook Pro won't work with external display?

The very first time I connected my brand new Macbook Pro to my 23" Cinema Display the laptop screen displayed mostly static, though the external monitor continued to work. The computer was sent to Apple for repair. Apple replaced the logic board. Though the nature of the problem changed following the "repair" (the Macbook's screen now goes dark instead of displaying noise) the laptop still will not drive the external monitor successfully without multiple re-starts. I've experimented with turning the sleep mode on and off as well as the screen saver. No effect. Is anyone using this set up successfully or is there some fatal design flaw in the Macbook Pro? System 1.4.8, 2 gigs RAM. Thanks.

Thanks for the input. Yes, I've driven the 23" with another Mac. I took the laptop back to the shop today. Hopefully they can resolve the issue.

  • Macbook screen won't work, but external monitor works fine...

Hey guys - are there any solutions out there for this problem that doesn't involve hundreds of dollars? A mate of mine spilled beer on a macbook - had to pay for it, I fired it up and everything works fine but the screen... Is there a way that I can check the connections or dry something off? Apple told the owner to throw it in the bin - but it works fine plugged into a monitor. The screen isn't cracked or chipped - all looks fine - I'm guessing that fluid had got into a connection somewhere. Help me Gurus!
    Cheers

Have you tried drying it without the back cover and upside down? l heard it worked for some guy

  • MacBook Pro won't work

My MacBook Pro when turned on a green/black screen appears then the normal apple screen loads. Then another pixelated screen loads and a shutdown icon appears. What's happened?

Take it back, get the store to fix it.

  • New Macbook Pro won't work with Snow Airport

I am trying to connect my new Macbook pro with an old airport snow.
The macbook can see the airport's network, but everytime I try and connect to it there's an error.
I can connect to the airport via the ethernet, but if I try to use the assistant for the snow/graphite models it says i don't have a airport card installed. Which I do.
Is it possible to connect my new macbook with this older airport. Or is my computer to new for this old wireless router?
    Any ideas??

  • Macbook Pro won't work with HP print server n2101?

Hi all, happy New Year.  I have a new Macbook Pro and I am trying to hook it up to my HP print server n2101 and my HP psc 2210 all-in-one printer.  The mac recognises the server (and vice versa), the mac prints when connected directly to the printer but the server refuses to connect with the mac (keeps showing 'idle')  Anyone have any ideas how to fix it?  Very disappointed as all things mac usually work with no probs!

Hi, I used the Mac setup instructions, not the PC ones.  The printer was automatically recognised in print and scan when I connected it with a USB cable.  I accessed the server's web-based page and followed all the instructions, but still no joy.  Thanks for the tip about posting.  I have just posted in the section you suggested, so let's see what happens.  From a quick scan around the apple forums, lost of other people seem to having precisely the same problem (and not just with HP printers!), but unfortunately, no-one seems to be offering a solution!  And trying to get through to the apple online support is a complete waste of time.  They've been 'not available' for two days now.  Christmas/New Year shutdown, I suppose.  Thanks for all your help, though!

  • Macbook Pro won't work with View Sonic projector

I have the new Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion.  Just got a View sonic PJD 5352 projector and it won't see it.  I am not sure what is happening.  I checked and the projector is compatible with mac.  When I plug in the projector to the macbook pro the screen gets smaller which is normal I guess cause the ratio is different but I can't get the projector to see the mac and the mac gets the pinwheel of death and I can't do anything with it.
    At a loss.

  • My Macbook keyboard won't work and the computer is shutting down at random. Any advice?

I have a Macbook that is approximately 2 years old. It had water spilt on it but since then everything else is working fine.
The keyboard won't type at all, it did on the original start up after the water damage was assessed within the computer's shell. Now not at all. I'm using a USB keyboard for the time being.
Also, it shuts itself off at random. There is a dull click and the screen goes black, then when you attempt to restart it it loads a little and then it clicks and screen goes black again.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hello Rach Ryan
First I would try closing the app from multitasking and then launching it again. To do that, double tap the Home button and then swipe up on the app to close it completely. If that does not work, then I would restart your iPhone.
iOS: Force an app to close

Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

  • The audio on my MacBook Pro won't work.

I just finished updating my MacBook Pro  to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and now the audio doesn't work. When I went to system prefrences and looked at Sound, I checked the Sound Effect Alerts and the audio there works, so I gather it's not an issue with the speakers themselves. But when I got to adjust the volume, play something on itunes, or acess pretty much any other source of sound, there is no audio. I ran updates on my computer and restarted it to see if this would solve the issue, but no luck.

I would try using a different set of headphones just to make sure that your headphones or their cord are not the problem.  If it still doesn't work, it's time for a visit to the Apple Store to talk to the Genius about a repair.
    Hope this helps

  • Photo Stream on MacBook Pro won't work

I have a MacBook Pro and when I turn on Photo Stream in iCloud system preferences it comes up with a box that says "Photos in the iCloud account can't be accesses.  Please review your preferences." How do I fix it?

this topic comes up at least once a week here if not more often.
the headphone out on the MBP doubles as an optical audio output as well. it is supposed to auto-detect when you have a digital optical cable inserted, so the sound output will switch automatically to digital. that's what the red light is - the optical audio data stream. what has happened is that your MBP has somehow gotten stuck thinking there's an optical cable plugged in. you can try plugging in and unplugging your headphones a few times to try and get it to un-stick. other people have said they've been able to do it very carefully with an unbent paperclip. but if none of this works you'll prob have to take it in for a service.
this is one of my gripes with the design of these machines. as an audio pro I'm very glad optical audio is built-in. but the fact that there is no option to select which output is used, or to disable the output entirely and just use the internal speakers, makes me nervous. I suppose it's supposed to be convenient that it auto-detects, but so many people come on this forum asking exactly the same question as you, it seems that it's really all too easy to accidentally jam it to the wrong setting. I'm really really careful when I plug or unplug anything from that port, because having it jam is the last thing I need. but I've already written to apple and asked them to change the sound control panel in OSX to allow us to choose exactly what the output is doing at all times, regardless of what's plugged in. I'd love to be able to leave my digital cable plugged in all the time, and just select to disable it so I can listen to the built-in speakers.. if only to lower the risk of damaging it by having to plug and unplug things all the time. same deal for when I use headphones. hopefully they'll sort it out because it really seems like it's far too easy to jam the switch in this port (same deal for the input port too) leaving people with no option but to get it repaired.

  • MacBook wifi won't work properly

    Dear all
Last week I installed Lion on my MacBook. Wifi immediately stopped working properly - I can only connect to the router if I'm 10 inches from it (but the internet works extremely slow), and even then I often get either "connection timeout" or "! No internet connection".
I formatted the whole hard drive and installed Snow Leopard. The problems persist.
I've tried disabling my router's WPA security, with no success.
I've tried establishing an Ad-hoc connection with another computer, and that did work.
And internet is working through Ethernet...
Any help is welcome, this is driving me crazy! Cheers, and happy 2012
    MacBook 13''
    2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2Gb 1067 MHz DDR3
    Purchased on August 2010

    Okay, next idea:
Create a new user account. Log out of the current account and into the new one. Does wi-fi work any better in the new account?
I don't think it will work, but I want you to give it a shot anyway.
Did you purchase the AppleCare extended warranty for this computer?

  • Since installing snow leopard on my macbook itunes won't work

Since I installed snow leopard my itunes wont open it comes up with an error message   The fiel "iTuneslibrary.itl" cannot read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes,
Can someone help me through this.  Its very frustrating, I was forced to install snow leopard in order to download itunes 10, so that it would recongize my iphone.

Nothing should happen to the old content.  Still, you should make a backup first because once a month somebody claims something horrible did happen during an update and now they have lost all their music, their dog died, their car crashed, and they got a C- in English literature.  Oh, and it is all Apple's fault for not telling them they had to back up.

  • My iMessage on my MacBook Pro won't work. It won't allow me to enter my phone number to use iMessage. I want to unify the two!

I want to unify my phone number & Apple ID so that I will be able to get my iMessages in the same window from my friends. I need help. The picture you see is all that I'm seeing. So what is the problem?

An iPod (and iPad) ony have a phone number for Messages (and FaceTime) if there is an iPhone with Messages/Facetime using the same ID for Messages and facetime.
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage
If you can't change the Settings that means that the Restrictions that prevent changing accounts is set. Settings>General>Restrictions
