10.4.11 update killed my iStat Pro widget

Dang, and I really liked that one. Developer iSlayer.com's site is currently down for "maintenance," so I reckon they've figured it out as well.

Ahhh, good possibility Anthony, thanks!

  • IStat Pro widget shows gradual increase in RAM usage

    I have the iStat Pro widget on my dashboard. every time i open up the dashboard, it shows that i have less and less RAM free, which obviously worries me, since whenever I open up dashboard i am idle; im not doing anything besides reading a webpage, or just charging my iPod. I would understand if there is less RAM while i am working with my pictures, but it does worry me. Please help, anyone that can, I greatly appreciate the help :-)!

    Any running process on the Mac may consume more RAM over time. Safari and other browsers especially will use more RAM over time. However, free RAM is misleading as an indicator of whether you're running out of memory. Available RAM is the sum of Free RAM and Inactive RAM. Although you may notice that Free RAM may decrease over time, you still have plenty of available RAM when you include Inactive RAM. See the following:
    About OS X Memory Management and Usage
    Reading system memory usage in Activity Monitor
    Memory Management in Mac OS X
    Performance Guidelines- Memory Management in Mac OS X
    A detailed look at memory usage in OS X
    Understanding top output in the Terminal
    The amount of available RAM for applications is the sum of Free RAM and Inactive RAM. This will change as applications are opened and closed or change from active to inactive status. The Swap figure represents an estimate of the total amount of swap space required for VM if used, but does not necessarily indicate the actual size of the existing swap file. If you are really in need of more RAM that would be indicated by how frequently the system uses VM. If you open the Terminal and run the top command at the prompt you will find information reported on Pageins () and Pageouts (). Pageouts () is the important figure. If the value in the parentheses is 0 (zero) then OS X is not making instantaneous use of VM which means you have adequate physical RAM for the system with the applications you have loaded. If the figure in parentheses is running positive and your hard drive is constantly being used (thrashing) then you need more physical RAM.

  • Where I can download istat pro widget?

    where I can download istat pro widget? Because it doesn't work with apple.com.

    Glad to see it was the right link and sorry I am late in replying.   Something wrong with notifications tonight; half of them have not come through.   That GPU diode reading is almost double mine but not too serious.   Here is some reading that may be more helpful than mere comments.

  • Hardware Monitor vs. iStat Pro widget

    Hi,
    I'm going to be upgrading the fan on my video card (7800GT) later today. Before I do that, I'd like to get "before" temperature and rpm readings for everything to compare to "after" readings. I have never used Hardware Monitor or the iStat Pro widget.
    Which is better for a Quad-- Hardware Monitor or iStat Pro widget? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    William

    So iStat is more than sufficient for getting my temps and rpms? I'd like to get the rpms just to see what's going on with the fans.
    I purchased the Zalman VF700-Cu, it should be arriving today. Yeah, I saw the VF900, too. It looks like it'll fit just fine (while blocking one slot- same as the VF700), but seeing as I know others have already successfully installed the VF700 and it seems to cool well enough (and it's a touch less expensive) I figured I'd just stick with the VF700. Also, the little controller that comes with the VF900 seems like a nice option, but I'd just find a good speed and leave it. I wouldn't be constantly changing it. And while the VF900 fan looks nicer than the VF700, that controller is a bit unsightly in addition to cluttering up the computer.

  • 10.4.4 update killed DVD Studo Pro 2.0.5

    Outline, menu, track editor, assets, everything is unresponsive except the menu and it's all jacked up. Just a warning for those stubborn people who refuse to shell out for an upgrade, stay away from 10.4.4.

    Just a note, if you are going to run DVD SP 2.x or 3.x, it runs best, with fewest problems under OS X 10.3.9, (very stable.)
    OS X 10.4.x, is meant for the new version of DVD SP 4.x, (FCP Studio Suite.)
    DVD SP 2 & 3 were designed for the older OS, (10.3.x.) that is were you should be, if you want to run with stability. They just weren't designed to run under 10.4.x, this is why you are having problems.
    I have updated only one of my station with the new FCP Studio Suite, which is running on 10.4.4, all other work stations are older copies running 10.3.9. My new station is a Quad Mac and as such, the older version of these softwares will not run on a Quad, had to update with a new copy of the FCP Studio so it would run on the Quad.
    Haaaa, obsolescence, it can bite a hole in your pocket!

  • Quick question re: memory on iStat pro widget...

    just want to know the meaning of the diffferent type of memory usage as displayed on the widget;
    wired, active, inactive, free
    cheers

    wired= memory contains information that can not migrate on HDD
    active=RAM in use
    inactive=Memory not in use, but available for applications who need it.
    free=Memory not in use
    VM=hd size reserved at VM

  • How do you update iStat Pro to the Snow Leopard version?

    Went from 10.5.8 to 10.6.1 - do i need to do anything to iStat Pro?
    Thanks.

    Only with iStatMenus or MenuMeters. You will need to download the updates for them. iStat Pro is a widget so it still works with Snow.

  • Istat Pro "Processes" doesn't work since upgrade to OS X 10.8.2

    Ever since I upgraded the OS to 10.8, the istat Pro widget on the dashboard doesn't list anything but a stack of empty white squares under "Processes". Is this a known bug?

    Thanks CT! Here are the steps from the macrumors.com link:
    Steps:
    1. Locate your widget, it will be under /Library/Widgets or ~/Library/Widgets
    2. Right click it and select: "Show Package Contents"
    3. Open Wide.js or Tall.js file in some editor (Wide is for horizontal view, Tall for vertical)
    4. Locate the line
    Quote:
    WideSkinController.prototype.updateProcesses = function(){
    var _self = this;
    var exclude = "";
    if(p.v("processes_excludewidgets") == 'on')
    exclude = " grep -v DashboardClient | "; if(p.v("processes_sort_mode") == 'cpu')
    widget.system('ps -arcwwwxo "pid %cpu command" | egrep "PID|$1" | grep -v grep | ' + exclude + ' head -7 | tail -6 | awk \'{print "<pid>"$1"</pid><cpu>"$2"</cpu><name>"$3,$4,$5"</name></item>"}\'', function(data){ _self.updateProcessesOut(data);});
    else
    widget.system('ps -amcwwwxo "pid rss command" | egrep "PID|$1" | grep -v grep | ' + exclude + ' head -7 | tail -6 | awk \'{print "<pid>"$1"</pid><cpu>"$2"</cpu><name>"$3,$4,$5"</name></item>"}\'', function(data){ _self.updateProcessesOut(data);});
    Change "PID|$1" to "PID| $1" (Add space before $ sign)
    5. Save the changes
    6. remove widget and re-add it Dashboard, and it should be fixed

  • Updating your older Mac Pro for a few more years of good use...

    Hello everyone, I wanted to share my tips for getting your aging Mac Pro running better for Mavericks and the FCPX 10.1.
    Please note your Mac Pro's specs before doing what did..I am an editor and use the 3 big A's to get my work done. Adobe, Apple, Avid (not so much Avid)
    I got a great deal on it for only $1300. I did a bunch of research and decided my upgrade options were best for my machine and the way I use it so your upgrade options my differ slightly. (do your research!!!)
    I have 2009 Nehelem Mac Pro 2x 2.66 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon.  Installed was 6GBs of factory RAM, an upgraded ATI 512 GPU, and 1,  1TB WD Black system drive. (this was a nice upgrade compared to my 4 core Mac Pro)
    I was running 10.8 and all my apps were installed and running. I installed 3 more 7200rpm drives to fill the drive bays. Momentus XT's 2TB each.
    (I upgraded to Mavericks, as  you know it overwirtes the old OS, I wanted the new FCPX...) more on this later.
    1- RAM,
    I removed the puny 6GBs of RAM it came with and installed 32GBs of 1066 Mhz DDR3 from OWC. I decided 32 would be enough for my needs looking into the App requirments and of course the cost. I noticed a slight difference in some performance. (to my dissapointment) fcpx beachballs!!
    However now you will have more RAM to allocate RAM for programs that can read it. After Effects anyone...
    link- http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Mac-Pro-Memory#1066-memory
    2-GPU,
    I had a 5770 sitting in the closet, and put that in and bascilly it sucked!   I never like the 5770.  fcpx beachballs!!
    I contacted apple they informed me FCPX is written for GPUs and that a large card (while they didnt suppport it at the time) would be the best upgrade to better performance. So I installed the AMD Sappire 7950 3GB GPU from OWC. This is a monster card! and right away I noticed a huge difference in the perfromace of FCPX and AE! Not only that but the card supports up to 2K I believe... and is a great price... and for you gear heads it looks bad *** and the fan is super quiet!
    less fcpx beachballs
    link-http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Sapphire/100352MAC/
    3- Hardrive,
    Ok so now I'm thinking my machine is a beast! I have all this RAM and a huge GPU and the top ESATA drives you can buy, butI was still getting beachballs and FCPX was painfully slow at times..needless to say I felt Apple backing my in a corner to drink more coolaid a get the new small round black can...What to do???
    As I mentioned before I did not do a clean install....Most folks dont like going through the pain of 2 days to do a clean install but I knew deep down it would have ot be done. Before I did that I decided to do some research on those new SSD cards everyone is raging about. Remeber your Mac Pro's bus speed is only so big...remember this when doing this last and most important upgrade!!
    The market has all kinds of SSD drives for sale and OWC has a PCIe option (too much money for me) they have 3G drives 6G drives and so on. I could be wrong but buying a more expensive 6G card is a waste of money with bus speed of the Nehelem (this my differ with Westmere) I bought an of the self Kingston Hyper X 120GB (get at least 240GB if you can) and the OWC Mac Pro Drive Sled.
    This by far was the best upgrade! Before installation please go through the pain of the clean install...For Mavericks you need to create a bootable drive on a USB stick first. You then need to monut SSD in an empty enclosure in order to get it to mount for the OS to be installed

    H.264 Encoding-
    Matrox Compress HD PCIe card, This card is amazing however it does not support Compressor 4.1 but it does support legecy Compressor 3 and I did successfully install both Apps in Mavericks. (You must hide legecy versions in a folder in applications)
    ESATA CARD-  4 Port 6G Caldigit esata card.
    USB 3.0- Newertech 2 port USB3.0 Mac Pro Card. I dont recommend buying this card. Mac Pro Nehelem, was not made for USB3.0 and the drives I plug into it rarely mount...if ever mount... restart...when they do its a little faster than firewire and close to my Esata options. Dont bother....
    I have setup my drive structure as follow.
    Drive Bay 1 All System Apps run on the SSD drive.
    Drive bay 2 hold the contents of all the Media for my projects.
    Drive bay 3 hold all the AutoSaves and the FCPX Libaries and daily Project backups and renders.
    Drive bay 4 Is Special Effects drive.
    Dual Samsung 27 inch HD displays
    M_Audio Monitors
    1-3TB Caldigit RAID
    12-TBs of drives attached to every port on the back.
    2_USB docking ports voyager s3 for archive drives.
    Now that I have all these upgrades, a clean install, fresh updates to my softwares, my Mac Pro runs better that ever! My boot ups time is twice as fast as before and my OS is very snappy...Oh yeah FCPX, After Effects, Boris RED, Mail, Safari all open at the same time a running brilliantly!
    Many of us are not ready to upgrade to the new Mac Pro, and as we all know the legecy Mac Pro was built like a tank with military grade proccessors and endless upgrade options. It wont ever be as fast as that new black can but I know I will be working faster with my trusty Mac!
    Good luck!

    SSD Killer-fast Mac Pro
    Upgrade RAM to 16GB (4 x 4GB)
    Upgrade all the hard drives to 2TB
    Upgrade to 10.6.8 and CS5.5
    Replace graphic card with ATI 5770
    Upgrade the processors with X5355s, which is what many are doing now with theirs.
    Forget Lion. Dropped PowerPC and Rosetta code support
    Clone your drives.
    Keep 40% or more free space on any drive.
    Move any non-OS or applications off the boot drive to a data drive.
    Move system and apps to SSD
    Use SSD(s) for Aperture Library or stripe RAID.
    None of the above, sell yours and pick up a 2010 2.8GHz $2100 (people that want or need to run Tiger and PowerPC will likely pay $700 range for MacPro1,1). Upgrade the processor in  2010, with 6-core 3.33GHz $590.

    At some point, it doesn't make sense to pour money into older system.
    But you can, and do it gradually one step at a time.

  • Istat pro is NOT supported on macbook air

    i went to the apple store today and downloaded istat pro on the mba and it was the one with the solid state drive it said the temp was 30 degrees ferenhight yes ferenhight it in celcus it says 0 and it said fan speed - 200 so islayer needs to update istat pro this is just a heads up

    You may want to read this wikipedia entry on Fahrenheit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fahrenheit
    Please note the spelling and the fact that both Fahrenheit and Celsius are temperature scales. "Fahrenheit Celsius" makes no sense.
    Now to your situation: iStat Pro works fine with my MBA (HD version). You may want to ensure you are running the latest iStat version for Leopard, or try reinstalling it.

  • Update kills library

    I updated to 606 and my library went from 11300 pics to 44. All the jpgs are in the library and can be seen with finder. Doing the option-cmd start up of iPhoto does not work to rebuild the iPhoto database. It looks like it takes some aciton but nothing improveds same number of pics shows up in the library. All the pics are in the years that are in the iPhoto Library folder. They just do not show up in iPhoto. I have followed the manual rebuild and that worked but have lost all the categories and tags for each pic for the 11K pictures which is a lot of work. Does anyone know another way to save all this work that this upgrade has killed?
    MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4)

    Michael
    Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library Folder allowing it to overwrite the damaged file. If not, then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
    To create and populate a new library:
    Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
    Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
    Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
    Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
    When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
    In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • IStat Pro Battery Health

    Hi everyone. So ever since I updated my firmware for the supposed sleep issues and such, I actually have been having issues with my battery. I now get an occasional cycle where my battery only gets about an hour of use and on my iStat Pro, I have a 68% battery health rating. Then after charging the computer I usually get back to the normal 3 hour battery life that I have and I get a 98% rating from iStat. I calibrate the battery at least once a week since I use my computer a lot and I'm on my 90th cycle (not really that much).
    My two questions are these: Should I put any stock into this battery health rating from iStat since usually after a "bad cycle" I get back into the 90s? Also, is there any fix for the firmware update or has anyone figured out a method to fix these issues?
    Thanks all in advance.

    I have the same problem with my battery (though i never had it as low as 68%). I don't think it's a problem with iStat but with the Power Managing Unit (don't take my word for it though). iStat simply says how the current amount of full charge capacity compares with what should be the optimum full charge capacity. So basically, the problem lies where your computer interprets the full charge capacity of the battery.
    I tried loads of things (including resetting the PMU and doing some hard-core calibration) but none worked.

  • IStat Pro System Monitoring Widget

    The answer is here...nearly...looks like we may have a great system widget...
    I just found this widget on Apple:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
    "We get alot of emails asking about support for intel based macs in iStat Pro and iStat nano. At this stage there is no support for fan or temperature sensors in Intel based Macs in either widget. We will add support for cpu temps via the SpeedIt kernel extension in the next round of updates".

    Hey. Yeah, what's goin on here. Is the widget supposes to show is temp as well? It didn't work on mine. Everything is working thou except temperature.

  • Dashboard Istat Pro

    Hello,
    I just updated this widget called Istat Pro (monitors all hardware parameters) and the old version of this widget was sent to Trash. Now, I can't fully empty Trash because it says Istat is being used. I really have no idea of what to do. I've tried to disable the widget, and the widget can't be removed from Trash. Any ideas/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Andy

    Try using Secure Empty Trash from the File pull down menu. If that doesn't work, rebooting your Mac may break the connection between the app and the OS, allowing you to delete it.
