Disappointed to discover just now that the installation of 10.4.3 shut down all my Widgets which is a huge deal as it wiped all my stickies with pertinent and relevant information. Poo!

It sounds like you've removed the iCal and Widget icons from your dock and want to get the back there for easy access. The following document goes over dock basics and there's a section (which I copied below) that goes over how to get those icons back on to the dock. Essentially you'll just find the application's icon in your applications folder and drag it back.

Adding and removing Dock items
If you want to add an application to the Dock, click the Launchpad icon in the Dock and drag the application icon to the Dock; the icons in the Dock will move aside to make room for the new one. If you want to add a file or folder to the Dock, just drag its icon from any Finder window (or the desktop) and drop it on the Dock. The resulting icon that appears in the Dock is actually an alias of the original item (it's kind of a pointer to your original item). If you drag an application or file onto the Dock, you'll be able to open it anytime by simply clicking its docked icon. If you drag a folder onto the Dock, a Finder window of the folder's contents will display when you click the folder icon in the Dock.
To remove an item from the Dock, drag its icon an inch or more off the Dock and wait a couple seconds, then release; the icon will disappear in a poof of smoke. There are some icons that you can't remove from the Dock, such as the Trash and the Finder.
Don't worry, you aren't permanently removing the item from your computer; you simply got rid of its Dock icon. If you want that item back in the Dock, locate the application, file, or folder in the Finder (or with Spotlight), and drag it back into the Dock.

Absence of IM app and widget on N8

Hello!
Can anyone from Nokia, please, tell me why there is no chat application on my Nokia N8. At the product page (at least in Finland) it is written, that in selected markets there is a chat application available for the most popular instant messaging protocols. I have seen some reports of early devices with this application but apparently it was removed from latter firmware versions. I haven't found any clues abou why this application is withdrawn from the release firmwares from any forums (including this one) or articles for any markets.
Is the chat application/widget under development and will it be released any time soon? I have seen Nokia's video from Nokia World 2010 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fN-4hUGYcOw) where the IM application and widget are demoed. That application was one very important reason among the others why I bought my N8. Could someone clarify this situation?

What Happens To the IM for Nokia N8?
I also saw the video before I bought my N8. That contributed to buy it.
In Venezuela I could see Nokia employees with active IM.
They themselves told me that the PR 1.1 would be active!
What happens? Even when the deception?
First with my N97 that would be awesome and it was a big disappointment.
Now also with the N8. That I will not buy more Nokia phones?
I remember one that launched Nokia N95 and was only a success! Today is not the same.

The Page turning effect and widgets. Who else wants this as a widget? I can't get it in ibooks author.

The page turning effect( or lack of). Having spent 6 months writing a children's story in ibooks author, I can't get this effect unless I export it as a pdf, and re export as an epub. I lose the interactive widgets, and the font format goes crazy, extra page numbers as well. I contacted apple support on 4th Nov, but was recommended to come here. I want the page turning effect, and want to keep the widgets. Surely there is a "widget" to plug in to this? Honestly, I despair...

I just upgraded to dreamweaver cs5.5 and widget doesn't load properly ?

I just upgraded to dreamweaver cs5.5 and the spry lightbox gallery widget doesn't load properly ? I drag and drop in design view. All my other adobe programmes are still cs3 flash photoshop etc is this why or what am I doing wrong as all i get on the page is a set of images vertically from the gallery template and no gallery layout? Can anyone help?

512MB of RAM and Widgets...can it make the system completely freeze?

Noticing a very sluggish response on my Mac Mini I realize that memory is an issue with MS Office and such using Safari with iCal in the background.
My Mac does a complete freeze, no force quit no toggle when I hit F12 (widgets) retrieving widgets while an app is running will freeze the system it has occurred twice in one day.
I use a maintenance tool to run cron jobs, optimize safari, updated prebinding, check S.M.A.R.T disk and all is fine.
Looking for more avenues...
I am on the fence on adding more memory because of the processor chip and wanting to go to Leopard shortly..
I may just have to backup and live with this problem...

The folder and question mark at startup is an indicator that no valid MacOS install was found to boot from. Usually it means the system can't find the internal drive or the internal drive wasn't correctly recognized. In a normally functional and correctly configured Mac, this is a rare thing, but it can happen if, for example, the system is usually booted from an external drive, but the external is disconnected or powered down.
However, it can also be caused by an error in the system management controller, where an SMC reset will usually resolve it. It may have been this in your case, since although you may not have intentionally performed an SMC reset, the disconnection of power and other devices is essentially the same thing!
Just check that the startup disk preference pane has the internal drive selected, and as long as there is a valid MacOS install on that, this problem should not recur.

Terminal and Widget Problems

I am running into an unusual problem with my computer. I used Terminal to allow my widgets to go to the desktop (witch did not work), but when I typed in the command it added the plus and arrow symbol (the same as when you go to widgets on your mac) to my main desktop. How do I fix this?

Fixed this issue by installing XQuartz. After this the DISPLAY environment variable is set to a value.

Missing widget manager and Widget widget in dashboard

I just installed 10.4.3 on both my computers (Tiger family pack). Dashboard works fine on my iMac but on my PowerBook G4, I have no Manage Widgets button and no Widget widget in my Dashboard items. The Dashboard icon is in my apps. Cmd= (command equals) doesn't help.
I'm stuck on what to do.

It appears to be complaining about internal resources, but we have not experienced this issue before and both the management and SQL servers have plenty of resource. The databases are held on a seperate dedicated sql server and I have noticed that when I
try to search for the object, the sqlservr.exe process immediately consumes 50% CPU while the query is running. As soon as it ends (errors) the sqlservr process drops back to a reasonable number.
No changes have been made to either the management server or sql server. We were able to create dashboards one day, but then recieved this error the next.
Has anyone else seen this issue? or can anyone explain what is happening?

Ones olution I found for this was as follows:
When creating the State widget,the option
to specify the criterion I left blank
and finished the creation of the dashboard.
With that managed to solve the problem.Of course this
is not the solution, or the root cause
of the problem.
I will examine more about this issue, and sohave
the ultimate solution and why such behavior,I post
here.

Custom Dashboards and widgets

Hi All,
I have created a custom dashboard with four reports on it.
I want to create a link under each report which when clicked opens up that particular report as a widget.
I created the link and i created a small widget and saved it as .html file on the desktop.
But whenever i try to insert the url of the widget on the link in the dashboard, it doesnt open up.
Any clues?

Pausing slides using master slides and widgets

Is there a better way that what we are doing becuase we ware wasting time and we put this process in pace in CP 5.5 and want to know what we can better in CP7.01
We want to have our slides pause at the middle of each slide
Currently
- Our navigation buttons are on the master slide . These are custom static widgets to do forward and back because interactive objects cannot be put on master slides
- so we add a hidden object on each slide to pause
We have complicated branching becuase
- we have glossaries and help
- branched scenarios
So we really need this to work releiably
Problems
- our widget doesn't show on the branched viewer
- we make mistakes using the variable recording the previous viewed slide
We were worried about using a playbar becuase it
- allows you to exit assessments
- allows users to skip our simulations

Your statement '..because interactive objects cannot be put on master slides' is no longer valid since CP6: there is one type of interactive objects that can be used on master slides (or timed for the rest of the project) which are the shape buttons. I have been talking a lot about them:

You could easily replace the static widgets by shape buttons, they are a lot easier to 'style' and very flexible.
One example: if you want just to pause each slide, add a pausing shape button (transparent fill and no stroke) to the main master slide. Because there is no timing possible for objects on a master slide, that pause will always occur at the end of the slide, whatever its duration. You cannot time the pause! If you have a shape button with pause timed for the rest of the project, that pausing point will always be at the same absolute time (relative is not possible, thought I'd seen somewhere a question about pausing at half the slide duration but cannot find it in your text).
I (almost) never use a playbar myself. It is only useful for simple linear projects.

HTML and Widgets what can I really do?

I am so confused about the possibilities we have when inserting an HTML file in one iBook.
My understanding was that if we take a regular HTML file and put it on a widget it will work just as in any regular browser.
Just as the following example does:

Please help me to understand what is exactly what I can do with the HTML widget option as I think this is really limited.

I have, but the problem is that it do not show specific examples of what you can do.
I mean seems to be that an HTML file is not the only thing that you need as the widget should have been created before.
So, in a few words I just want to see examples of what has been done and how it was created in order to understand this in the proper way.
Right now my understanding is that you need to create the widget before put it in your book.

Audio and Widget Interaction

I have audio and a widget on a slide. When the widget appears, the audio stops. I have searched the forums and found nothing that applies to Captivate 7 or that has a solution.
Can you please advise?

Are you not talking about an interaction? Because typically an interaction will pause the slide at its first frame to allow the interaction.
To what is your audio attached: slide, object? I found a workaround in CP6 (blogged about it at that time) that probably will also do it in CP7. Instead of attaching audio to slide or object, use an advanced action On Enter for the slide and add the command Play Audio.

How do you assign actions to a widget? I have a dropdown menu widget and when the user selects a menu topic, they should go to that topic. How do you assign the action? I am in Cap. 5.

The chosen item will be stored in a user variable. You will have to add a button that checks the entry stored in that variable and jumps to the appropriate slide.
Just a question: why not use the 'GoToSlide' widget, and add the menu-items as labels?
