10.4.3 INSTALLER QUIT DURING DISK 2

When installing 10.4.3 from CDs from 10.3.9, the installer would quit during disk 2 and say that there was an installer error and would then start the disk 2 install from the beginning. This cycle continued for about 3-4 revolutions. Then the install successfully completed disk 2 install and prompted for disk 3, after which everything went fine and now 10.4.3 is running perfectly.
I still have to install from the CDs onto another computer and my question, did I get lucky given that it eventually installed correctly? Or is this a warning that something is wrong with the CDs and should I have them replaced before using again? When the install quit each time, I believe that it got farther than when it quit previously.
This install was on a 1Ghz e-Mac, so I don't believe that firmware was the problem as there are no firmware updates listed (is this correct?)
iMac 800 Mhz, G4 400, eMac 1G, iBook 800   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I believe that if you purchase a Family Pak, then you are licensed for up to 5 machines regardless of whether you have the DVD or CD set.
When you do such system upgrades it's a good idea to do the following:
1. Repair the hard drive and permissions on the target system's startup volume.
2. Update any third-party software for compatibility with the new system version if needed. Otherwise, disable or remove incompatible third-party software.
3. Verify compatibility of any third-party peripherals or PCI cards. If you have incompatible hardware then upgrade it first or disconnect it.
4. Clone your current installation to a bootable Firewire external drive. If you are running Panther or Tiger you can clone the startup volume using the Restore option of Disk Utility.
5. Unless the installation requires that you boot from an installer CD or DVD, boot into safe mode before running the installer(s).
6. Never install new software if the hard drive has errors that cannot be repaired. Use utilities like Disk Warrior, TechTool Pro, or Drive Genius to repair the drives, and if they fail then reformat the drive.
Follow the above religiously and you will likely encounter few if any problems with software updates or upgrades.

I am attempting to install Oracle 9i (version 9.0.2.0.1.0) on RedHad 7.1.The installer quits after selection is made on Installation Types window.

Hi I need some help

• Logic 9 Installer Quits between disks

After completing installation of the main Logic DVD disk , the Installer asks for Jam Pack 1 and then Quits/Crashes before the Jam Pack 1 has started loading.
You then have to load the original installer etc... but how do you know what has been loaded on already? The Installer does not 'remember' your choices?
This has happened twice and I have tried to uncheck the boxes of the Main Installation stuff which is already assumed to be on..
How do you check exactly what has been installed?
Thanks
M S

You have to look for receipts for the stuff. Everything that is installed via an installer creates a receipt at the end of the install process.
They are in Library/Receipts
You need to delete receipts when you delete the app it belongs to, or you will not be able to reinstall that app. The installer looks at the receipts folder to see what is already installed - to avoid double installs.

• Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.1 Installation Fails during Disk Partitioning

Hi,
I've tried to install Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.1 by creating a Virtual Machine using Oracle VM Virtual Box in my laptop with Window XP host OS (NTFS filesystem), by following the below steps.
1) Installed Oracle VM Virtual Box
2) Created a new Virtual machine using a virtual box by specifying the two .iso images i.e OracleLinux-R6-U1-Server-i386-dvd.iso and boot.iso as the boot device and by specifying the following Disk files (.vdi) as follows.
2.1) Oracle_Enterprise_Linux_6_1_Root_Disk_1.vdi - For the / (i.e Root) partition - Dynamically expanded storage - 10 GB - ext4
2.2) Oracle_Enterprise_Linux_6_1_Swap_Disk_1.vdi - For the swap partition - Dynamically expanded storage - 10 GB - swap
2.3) Oracle_Enterprise_Linux_6_1_User_Disk_1.vdi - For the /usr partition - Dynamically expanded storage - 20 GB - ext4
2.4) Oracle_Enterprise_Linux_6_1_Home_Disk_1.vdi - For the /home partition - Dynamically expanded storage - 10 GB - ext4
But while installing OEL 6.1 after specifying the partitions, the installer get hung and throws an error as bug while creating the ext4 filesystem on /dev/sda1.
I tried to specify the default 8 GB for all the above four partitions, the installer successfully continues without any issues. But if i specify any partition more than 8 GB, it fails.
Is there anyway I can solve this problem by creating the above specified partitions with the above size ? Why does it fail if i specify any size more than 8 GB ?
Thanks
Harish

8 GB is a common limit for systems were the boot loader or system BIOS imposes an addressable space limit for the boot partition. In such situations, the system boot partition has to fit within the first 8 GB physical boundary of the harddrive.
Your setup seems a bit unusual. Why do you create separate disks for each Linux partition?
Normally the Linux installer creates necessary partitions on the disk, including a /boot partition that is usually only 100 MB in size.
What are you doing with boot.iso? You should be able to start the system from the main installation DVD or .iso image. You might also want to install x86_64 Linux, unless your hardware is really very old and does not support the 64-bit extension. You can run 32-bit software on a n 64-bit OS, but not the other way around and you will limit your software to 32-bit only.

• Win2000: Installer quits during "Executing pre-requisites..."

Hello all. I tried to install Oracle 8.1.7 on Windows 2000
Advanced Server (w/SP2) and every time the installer just quits--
no error message, nothing, the window just disappears--after
choosing the type (Typical, Minimum, Custom), about 30% through
the status bar when it says "Executing Pre-requisites...".
Since didn't have much luck with that, I went ahead and
installed Oracle on a Linux machine. Now I get the same problem
when I just try to install the Client on Windows 2000. After
choosing the type of client (Admin, Programmer, etc) it starts a
status bar, and the installer just disappears after it gets
to "Executing Pre-requisites..."
Anyone have any idea what's going on here? This has actually
occurred on two different Win2000 machines here. The only common
factor I could see was that both of them had been upgraded to
Internet Explorer 6. So I installed an old 4.7 versino of
Netscape and tried again but had the same problem.
Thanks a lot.

anyone figures it out..please share big references...

Hi drgonzo1175,
Welcome to apple forum.
Which version that you try to upgrade to Illustrator 10?
Do you have the previous version installed?
Is that an updater or an upgrade version that you try to run?
Try to re download from here:

please help me out

I can't do that since I do nothing with Windows.
It sounds like it was hacked to run XP and then makes it not run OS X now.
Only thing I can suggest is to repartition the hard drive to a single HFS+, GUID partition and see if that allows you to install OS X.

• Disk utility hangs during disk verify

Initially 'disk verify' registered errors on exit - minor error/issue it said, some kind of header problem, so I ran disk utility off the install disk. Now the machine's native version of disk utility hangs during disk verify, blue & white spirals forever.
This coincidentally straight after my gmail/google address/account was hacked a couple of days ago.

Have you tried booting in SafeBoot mode (shift key held on start
until login screen appears) then launch Disk Utility and then run
its 'repair disk permissions' item, selecting the Macintosh HD;
and then note the repair window. It should fix something.
And when Disk Utility is done, quit it, and restart the Mac normally.
{...It is unlikely something from gmail affected your computer unless
you open up unknown sourced emails or go to odd web sites where
something may be downloaded from there, which you would almost
have to install (as admin, etc) for malware to work. You can get and
try ClamXAV for free to see if it sees any malware virus content.}
If you use Gmail, and do not log in using the https:// (secure http)
you should change the habit and bookmark the secure login site.
And when booted from the Installer disk and running Disk Utility
from there, see about running "repair disk" and not verify. The
repair choice will verify; but verify will not repair. Could be if
you cannot use the Utility to Repair the issues, and the other
SafeBoot mode and the computer's Disk Utility to get it working
you may need to further troubleshoot and/or get third-party tools.
In any event...
Good luck & happy computing!

• IDVD Quitting During/After Initial Burning

I'm am having random problems burning projects. I just successfully burned a project that had only 1 menu and 1 QT movie w/o chapters (20 minutes long) but iDVD quit immediately after. A real pain as i need to make multiple copies and now have to wait for asset encoding again.
I also have been having trouble burning other projects that have 2-3 menus, a short QT movie in the menu and a 40 minute QT movie with chapters as the main movie. These projects keep quitting during the burn and nothing is getting on the dvd.
Any ideas? Thanks.
10.4.3
iDVD 4.0.1
50 GB free space
iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Ok, so now i've tried quitting all other programs and rebooting before burning a dvd. iDVD is still quitting after successfully burning a project. I need to burn more than one disk though and don't want to wait for the encoding again.
Can anyone offer any advice as to how to fix this or any other options? Thanks.

Not clear to me why you want to replace an out of date version of Safari with another out of date version?
If your Safari keeps crashing, or if you are updating Safari (or just have) and it is misbehaving:
N.B. Never delete Safari, never run it under Rosetta, don't use proxy settings, and don't change the application's name or move it from the top level of the Applications Folder to a sub-folder.
(If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall. Alternatively you can download Safari directly:
Safari 4.1.3 for Tiger can be downloaded here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1069
Safari 5.0.5 for Leopard (and Snow Leopard) can be downloaded from here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1070
Make sure you download the correct version for your system.
Also, observe the recommended procedure for installing software: repair permissions and close all applications, install, then repair permissions again.)
Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up.  If Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 used Safari 3.0.4 which was not a beta and which was updated to v.3.1.2, and now Tiger uses Safari 4.1.3 and Leopard uses Safari 5.0.5, as does Snow Leopard albeit a different version. If these latest versions of Safari are not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
(Trying to revert to a previous version of Safari  can have repercussions, as previous versions of Safari used a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard Widgets etc also rely, but if you really want to do this post back for instructions on the safe way to do so.)
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Add-ons that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens, Saft, AcidSearch and Pithhelmet, and the dreaded CT Toolbar. If you have them, trash them and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for the latest version of Safari on your current operating system.
You must also ensure that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of Security Updates. These require a restart and a permission repair.
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for  problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
Hard Disk/Library/InputManagers
Home/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates and updates to Safari (they can always be added back one-by-one later).
Lastly, the Safari updates require a restart of your Mac, and sometimes even a double restart is required.

• Installation quits unexpectantly.

I'm trying to download iTunes for my new mac as the pre-installed version was erased. when the 10 minute download finishes it tells me 'The application installer quit unexpectantly.' clicking relaunch fails. Any ideas would be amazing.

Reinstall iTunes from your original system disk. I think it's in the optional installs folder. If it's not, reboot by holding down the "C" key (with your install disk in the drive) and install from the disk. If it's not the current version, then your Software updater will tell you later.

• XP SP2 -- installer quits immediately -- never displays a window

I have a clean XP install from disk (after upgrading mobo).
The quicktime and/or itunes installer quits immediately.
(Sometimes I can catch it for a moment in the task mgr).
Have tried deleting temp folders, no change.
Have tried running msicuu2 to clean installer files, however it doesn't think itunes or quicktime is installed.
The quicktime-only and quicktime+itunes installer both fail with identical symptoms.
Is there a way to install quicktime+itunes on this computer?
Is it possible to diagnose why the installer quits without doing anything??

I have the same problem with iTunesSetup.exe v7.0.2.16. Runs for not more than 2 seconds, then quits with no output/window.

• Could not write installation information to disk

I have a mid 2012 mac mini , when i try to upgrade to yosemite from mountain lion , by using the .app , it says "could not write installation information to disk contact apple care". I've tried installing  from the boot up menu using a bootable usb drive , it gives me an error. What should I do ?

Be sure you have at least 20 GBs of free space on your hard drive. Do the following:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion or Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
You may now try the Yosemite installer again. If you still get the error then you may have a defective installer or the drive needs to be reformatted.
