10.4.3 Upgrade - AUDIO STATIC

I upgraded from 10.4.2 to 10.4.3, hoping it would solve a problem I had, but it only made it worse. Now, Core Audio is screwed up and all I get is static. No sounds at all, not even system sounds -- just static.
To make matters worse, now my computer won't even boot up. It just sits there, thinking.
What could be the problem? How can I fix this? I'm new to Macs, and I'm trying to set up a home recording studio, which I'm also new to. So far, my experience on both fronts has been deeply frustrating, but this takes the cake: first, no audio; then, no computer at all! Help, please! I searched through this forum's archive, and I found another person had the same audio problem about a month ago, but no one responded to his question. I hope someone can respond to me.
Thanks.
PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I think I detect a trace of sarcasm in your post - but I could be wrong. If so, there is no need for such, for you no worse off than before - downloading on another machine and moving via jump drive also yielded a pkg that would not open, and your tried that a couple of days ago.
So let me explain my logic so that you may understand why I made the 'brilliant' suggestion that unfortunately, did not resolve the problem:
Since the contents of the reciepts folder tells software update what has/has not been installed; lacking the reciept, SU should have 'rediscovered' the update, downloaded it, and installed, instead of relying on the previously downloaded and cached pkg file, which, as already determined, was giving you an invalid digital signature error.
5 minute DL time for the complete update seems short - supporting the theory the existing receipt could have been interfering with redownloading the update.
At 97mb (or 109mb for the combined), the download should have taken a bit longer than 5 minutes. At under 5 minutes, an incomplete download is implied, which would explain the invalid signature.
Ergo, delete the receipt (and existing pkg as someone else suggested) and try again.

  • Capture audio static with Leopard?

I just upgraded to Leopard and started capturing a new project with FCP. I now have static in the audio I didn't have before. Anyone else experiencing this. I've switch cables, drives, video playback decks and still get added static on all tapes. The audio on the tape when monitored with earphones is static free. Any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. All cameras are set to 16 bit audio. Nothing has really changed except the Leopard OS upgrade. I am getting a warning box about the audio possibly not syncing, but there is no sync problem. I'm just curious if I'm the only one having this problem with audio static on capturing after the Leopard upgrade. Thanks for any help.

  • Why am I suddenly getting audio static with FaceTime connection?

I recently started getting audio statice when making a FaceTime connection. The other person can hear me, but I get only static. The image is clear. Is this a problem on their end or mine? Is it the iPad or a router issue? Regular connection to the net is fine and playing of music from I tunes is fine with no static.
    I'm puzzled.

    shambles,
You could try to reinstall using the full three step way (otherwise strange things may linger):
Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • Pink/green breakup, audio static: but I'm on Mac

    Hi all,
I've exported some Quicktime files from FCP. They play fine on the G5 Quad, but when played on another Mac or imported into Keynote, I get the pink/green blocky video breakup, and loud audio static, during playback.
I found a number of posts, with the solution of setting QT to Safe Mode -- but this only applies to Windows apparently. I have all the same problems, but on Mac.
Variables: have exported using Compressor, and directly from FCP. Created on G5 Quad 10.4 Tiger, trying to play on Intel Macs 10.5 (Macbook Pro, Macbook).
Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?
    Many thanks,
    Brett

Every time I send them a high res .mov file, they say it won't play for them
You are sending them files with a CoDec that doesn't exist on PC. You need to read up on what Quicktime CoDecs actualyl are available on PC. Aside from that, it's rather pointless still. If those clients don't even know how to deal with this or cannot install additional software due to administrative restrictions, that won't do you any good and neither does their request for an "AVI" - AVIs are just as much containers as are MOV fiels and could still have an unsuitable CoDec inside. So the proiper thing to do is to send them native H.264 files exported from AE using Adobe's encoder or WMV files. For the latter you are going to need the Flip4Mac extension...

  • Mavericks 10.9.1 Upgrade = Audio issue (lost 5.1 through HDMI)

    Hello guys and gals,
I've Macbook pro 15" retina connected as follow
Macbook Pro -> Sony HT -> LG LED TV (55LA7400)
The connection is made via HDMI port. Everything was working fine, no issue when I was using previous OS. Apps such as XBMC, etc was able to output 5.1 fine.
I just upgraded to 10.9.1 and experience Audio issue.
With TV OFF: I was able to see the 5.1 Selection via Audio Midi Setup. Using the built in test feature, was able to check all 6 speakers fine.
However, as soon as I turn on the TV, Macbook screen flickers (as usual when ie tries to recognize the TV and enable Video out) I can only select 2CH via the setup.
This apparently, wasn't the issue prior to the upgrade.
    Please advise,
    Thanks

I should have said - I tried that earlier but I just get:
'This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.'
My 17 inch Macbook Pro is pretty old (2009) and I took it over from my son 3 years ago so I wasn't involved with the initial installation.
    Thanks.

  • HDMI Audio static FIOS TV only, not DVD or other audio

My second Verizon FIOS set top box (STB) is connected to my home theater system via HDMI, so HDMI out on STB to HDMI in on the home theater box.
When I watch a DVD, watch a movie on Netflix or listen to audio on Pandora, I have no audio issues. When I switch to Verizon FIOS the audio has a lot of static to the point where it is hard to recognize the voice. The bummer is that it used to work fine before. Video is fine, no issues.
I have tried different HDMI cables, air blown all the ports so they are clean, made sure all connections are tight. The issue has not been resolved. There are no abnormal electricity sources nearby other than a wall plug. The STB sits on a wooden shelf and doesnt contact anything else that is metal. Can you help me figure out what the issue is and how to solve it?
The audio and video on the main STB unit (which is also the DVR) is perfectly fine

  • Virtual ESA appliance update and upgrade using static method

What are the static servers for updates and upgrading if you are using a virtual appliance ?
I know that the if you use a standard appliance they are:
    downloads-static.ironport.com: 208.90.58.105 on port 80
    update-manifests.ironport.com: 208.90.58.5 on port 443
    updates-static.ironport.com: 208.90.58.25 on port 80
But I see that my virtual appliance is trying to go to "update-manifests.sco.cisco.com"   - are there other differences for the virtual appliance ?

Yes, I can confirm through my own experiences over the past week that the Virtual Appliances do not use the same update servers.
Virtual Appliances point to dynamichost update-manifests.sco.cisco.com - 208.90.58.6. I'm not sure about the static update IPs, as the static sub domains do not seem to exist on the sco.cisco.com and it looks like Cisco is using Akamai CDN to distribute updates over port 80. You may need to allow iyour Virtual ESAs out on port 80 any, and 443 seems to be a single host.
Also I found the following article most helpful for Virtual ESA Updates:

  • MP4's tagged as music video only play audio + static picture?

    Hi everyone,
Is it normal that MP4 files, that have been tagged as Music Video (Itunes Media Type), only show a static image on playback instead of a moving image.
I assumed that a music video would show the video too. Hence the tag name "Music VIDEO"
So at this point, I'm looking at a still image. Audio plays fine though.
    Thank you for your help,
    Jeroen

This same exact thing happened to me just recently. My videos played fine since I got my iPod in December and now they just play audio and are organized in with my "music" menu. I've looked around and a lot of people seem to have this happening to them also, but no one has had a real solution that I've found. I think it may have something to do with an iTunes update since the problem happened after I updated.

  • 10.9.4 upgrade - Audio from headphone jack overdriven

    I have a 24-inch, Early 2009 iMac. 3.06 Core 2 Duo.
Using it as a projection computer at my church, running iTunes and ProPresenter 5.
After upgrading to 10.9.4 last week, the audio coming out of the headphone jack is distorting really badly at about the 1-1.5khz range. I have to turn the system audio down well below half to get the signal to to come through weakly enough to not sound overdriven. I first discovered this problem in iTunes, but it is doing the same thing for any media (Spotify, ProPresenter, Quicktime, Youtube through a browser, etc.). I know way more about sound systems than I do about computers, but it sounds to me like the system is telling the preamp in the headphone jack to run at way higher gain than it can safely put out. The audio from this jack isn't any louder than it was with the previous OS, just distorted now.
After reading some other forum posts about audio ceasing to work after the upgrade, I downloaded the 10.9.4 combo install from Apple.com and reinstalled it that way. Before that I tried a recovery install. No luck either way.
Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?
    Thanks!

    Hi Jordan PH ,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know how frustrating sound issues can be. One troubleshooting step I would definitely recommend in this situation would be to reset the NVRAM / PRAM. Please use the following article as a reference and let me know if the issue continues after the reset.

  • WVC80N and loud continuous audio static

Looks like I'm suffering from the same complaint as some other people.  Just hooked up a new WVC80N and all I can hear on the audio is a loud stuttering static that drowns out all other sounds. I am connected using Wireless N over a Netgear WNDR3700 and using the latest camera firmware.  This did not happen on my old wvc54gca.

Connect the camera to the router with the Ethernet cable and check the audio noise.
If same thing is happening with the wired connection also then try reset the camera for 30 sec..
Power cycle the camera. and then reconfigure it again.
Match the wireless settings as same as you have on the router.
Use the camera on a static ipaddress..
Make sure the ipaddress should not be from the DHCP range.
Open the  Alternate Web Access Port on the camera ( By default the port is 1024 .. Change the port to 1025 )
And open the same port on the router setup as well..

  • Audio static problems with video playback - Anyone Else?

I went to archive.org and downloaded two movies for my iPod. Great. However, when played on the iPod there is this scratch/pop in the headphones every couple of seconds.
It doesn't matter what headphones you use.
It doesn't happen when you play the same video on the computer either in iTunes or Quicktime Player. And this is definitely more than the normal hiss and pop of old movies. Its piercing when you have in ear headphones on and quite distracting with apple buds.
What I am wondering if this is a problem with all iPods or just mine?
I don't have the problem with music videos or home made movies. Just the two movies I downloaded from archive.org. However, they do play fine on my computer. This is my last day to return the iPod and get a new one instead of service unit (which his actually probably new also because the Apple Service dept probably hasn't had refurbs yet, but I digress).

I'm having the same problem with a file from archive.org. The file plays back fine using QT on my PC, but on the ipod the audio has periodic bursts of static.
Here's a link to a file that exhibits the problem:
    http://www.archive.org/download/disorderin_the_court/disorder_in_the_court256kb.mp4
Movie info is: MPEG-4, 320x240, Millions
    AAC, Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
    Movie FPS 29.97
    Data Rate 346.70 kbits/sec

There are a few things you can try.
    1) try another outlet in another room (different circuit group) to see if the sound is still present.
    2) If you are using a power protection device between your PC and the outlet and it is old replace it with a new one.
Even replacing the motherboard generally won't cure this issue as it isquite likely to be related to a problem in the (earthing) grounding and wiring in your home.
please post your results her in our tread.
    regards,
    erico

  • Hauppauge PVR-150 Capture, Audio Static/Noise IVTV Composite input

    Hello,
    This is my first post.
I have been migrating from Gentoo to Arch after 7-8 years using gentoo, I think Arch is great. even though precompiled packages have there downside. anyway.
I have problem with static/noise audio when capturing from Composite using IVTV, im running kernel 3.0.4 arch kernel.
I have 10  Hauppauge PVR-150 (+1 PVR-500) Cards running, the problem occurs in a random card after reboot.
Video is fine on all cards, but sometimes the audio on either one of the 11 cards get static/noise in the audio background.. sometimes allot, other times just a little bit noise/static.
I tried the wiki, and searched the forum, but can't find a solution, can anyone help me??
I can provide sample (cat /dev/videoX > sample.mpeg) if interested.
    See dmesg: http://pastebin.com/U2JnJ0Zr
    Thank you

    Hello,
changing to constant bitrate seems to correct the problem,
    v4l2-ctl -d /dev/videoX --set-ctrl=video-bitrate-mode=1
and then remember to not have the capture source audio volume to more than 75%.
