10.4.4 widget problems

Since installing 10.4.4, most of my widgets are crashing when I go to dashboard. I thought it might be network-related because Weather, SMS, GoogleMaps all crashed. But some non-network widgets crash too (TileGame, UnitConverter--or are those accessing the internet?). Dictionary, Stickies and Calendar seem to work fine.
In the past I've had font-related widget and AppleApp problems--anybody know what fonts are required for widgets (the Apple ones at least)? But this may be totally unrelated...
Have done the permissions thing, deleted the relevant prefs files, and tried moving the widget files to a single location (HD/Library/Widgets or HD/Users/[user]/Library/Widgets, tried both). All to no avail.
Have also been experiencing slightly more frequent App crashes since the update, but nothing systematic enough to be of any help here...
PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I downloaded the stand-alone 10.4.4 updater, ran it (without uninstalling the one that came via Software Update) and evrything seems to be working now. It seems I have successfully upgraded from 10.4.4 to 10.4.4.

Blog summary widget problem

I am getting reports that some users cannot load my iWeb '08 site. I have looked into it and not everyone is affected the same. In safari it's fine but in firefox on a mac it only loads a partial page with a js error. On a windows pc it's a crap-shoot as to if it will load or not. I can get my pc to load it with ie 7 but others cannot. Searching the forums and google I can see that I am not the only one with this problem.
It seems that the "Blog Summary Widget" is the error. I have tried everything including File / Publish All
How can I fix this?

Spry validation select widget problem

Dreamweaver CS3
Im using spry validation for my form but the two spry validation select widgets I am using are not working. When I test them I keep getting errors that nothing has been selected when something has in fact been selected. I've used spry validation before with no problems but this is the first time using the spry validation select widget.

Image gallery widget problems

First of all, I'm pretty new to coding and using CS4 on my Mac. I'm trying to create a simple lightbox gallery. I'm using the Adobe Widget Browser and downloaded Lightbox Gallery Widget. I had to copy/paste all of the coding because for some reason dragging/dropping didn’t work. All of my thumbnails look good, but when I view in Live mode or in a browser, the large image does not appear. All of my images are in the correct folder and linked, but I'm thinking there's a problem with the 'next', 'prev', etc images. I’m sure it’s something simple I’m missing, but I’m at my wits end. I’ve used the Markup Validation Service and it checks out ok. Here is my site:

Having a similar issue - I had taken some iphoto galleries off my mobile me gallery page but they were still linked to pages published in iWeb.
When I realized this I opened iWeb and took the gallery widgets out.
Then went into iPhoto and republished the galleries to mobile me, then back to iWeb and they still showed blank (like the two didn't know about eachother - name of the gallery is still showing in iWeb, but no longer displays photos).
Next try - delete the widget from iWeb page, delete the mobile me published gallery from iPhoto, setup a new (different name and all) published gallery in iPhoto - works, gallery page in mobile me works, back to iWeb and insert widget menu and the old galleries are still listed, no new galleries are showing up in iWeb now - great.
So, trying the tricks of shutting down iPhoto, iWeb, logging out of mobile me account in system preferences as well as via safari on me.com - then log back into every thing and start up iWeb again - still no new iPhoto published mobile me galleries showing in the iWeb insert-widget-mobile me menu.
Any help? Looking for a refresh in iWeb!?

Web Gallery widget problems

I'm having some issues with the mobileme web gallery widgets in iWeb. I first noticed when one of the widgets would not change photos as you roll over it, even though I had multiple photos in the gallery. I unpublished the gallery and re-published using a different name. The next time I started iweb it didn't find any of my mobile me galleries. Almost every other time I get this message when working in iWeb. If it does find my galleries, It doesn't find the new one, but it still lists the old gallery that I have unpublished. I've tried repairing permissions, rebooting. I've seen that a few people had this problem and it went away. Mine hasn't though. Any ideas?

N97 Widgets problem

I've Nokia N97 with V12.0.024
A lot of times the phone stops responding and I've to take out the battery to restart the phone.
After the restart, when it loads the widgets on the main screen, the pics on the Favorite Contacts widget disappears and in the Music Widgets it dosn't show the media buttons or anything else.
Its irritating becuase after sometime most of the widgets stop working and the phone starts to respond very slowly.
So far only solution I've seen to the problem is to format the phone and restore everything again.
The frequency of formatting the phone has gone up to once a week now.
If anyone else is facing the same problem and know a solution pls help.

im facing the same problem..every damn day...all he widgets stop working after every 10 hrs or so..and sometimes my phone doesnt even respond..neither do i rcv ne calls..I have to take the battery off twice a day 2 make sure its working fine..unfortunately thr is no solution to this..and neither is nokia bothered 2 take this into note..greddy company have got the money..and to hell w/ thr loyal costumers.

Translation Widget Problem

Hello everyone. I am a pretty new apple user. Got to say im loving every minute of it. Well, two days ago my computer auto updated and since then for some reason my translation widget (came with comp) does not work. I can not type anything in it and it I cannot choose languages to use. Is there any way to reinstall it?

I was having the same problem with the translator widget and did what you said: put my preferences folder on the desktop and restarted it.
This led me to believe the problem was in the original preferences folder.
It was! I found, at the bottom of the folder, the widgets. I just trashed them, and
dragged the folder from my desktop back to my library replacing the new one that had formed. Restart and you should be good to go.

Twitter TL widgets problems

Hi,
After working around a lot with this subject, I'm still pretty puzzled with Embedding Twitter TimeLine Widget into a DPS article.
With current version of the widget, Twitter forces you to specify wich domain(s) are going to use the widget, then generates the HTML-JS code for it. As long as I have seen and read in this forum, local embedding is no longer possible, I made my way through generate an HTML document with the embed code into it, upload to the server which domain is allowed to display the widget, and got to the point where I can see the online web page containing the widget with no problems.
Then, if I use that URL in the Web Content in Folio Overlays, when it comes to Preview the Folio in the iPad, an error message pops up saying something about the Assets not found for the Overlay. If I try to use the same Web Content frame with any other URL works perfectly, only with that URL containing the HTML document with Twitter provided code embedded into it.
I am aware about this article: http://blogs.adobe.com/jlockman/2012/05/26/using-twitter-feeds-in-adobe-dps/ but the code used there is not so far the one provided by your Twitter's profile.
Anybody out there with same trouble?

OK Ignacio, this is how far I've got (with some help). I have logged in to a Twitter account, and created a 'user tweets' widget, then pasted the widget code into a blank HTML document, and I have uploaded this HTML file to a web site.
The HTML code looks like this (I've blanked out the twitter name with xxxxxx here):

By pointing to the URL of this HTML file in Safari or Chrome on my iPad, I see exactly what I should: the user's tweets in a single scrolling column with a 'Tweet to...' field at the bottom.
But if I put this URL in a Web Content frame on an InDesign page, DPS refuses to preview it in either the desktop Content Viewer or on my iPad, producing the error message 'The assets for one or more overlays could not be located. Verify the assets used are available on disk, then update the article.'
If I try to upload the article to a folio in the cloud, I get a Content Generation Error with the same error message as above.
As an alternative, I have deleted the Web Content frame and instead called up Object > Insert HTML and put the following code in the dialog (I have blanked out my precise URL here):

I click OK, wait a few seconds for the frame to draw and place a low-res preview image of the widget, then position it on the InDesign page. With the frame selected, I open the Folio Overlays panel and ensure Autoplay and Allow User Interaction are ticked in the Web Content options.
When I preview this page in the desktop Content Viewer... success! The widget works! Brilliant!
Unfortunately, when I preview this page to my iPad... failure! The widget appears for a split second (probably just the low-res preview from InDesign) before fading out to a blank frame with just the underlined (i.e. linked) words 'Tweets by @xxxxxxxx' at the top. If I touch this text, the Twitter account's full-size home page opens in the in-app browser, which is not what I want either. The same is true if I upload the page to a folio in the cloud and download it to my iPad.
Curiously, if I go back to the InDesign page, select the frame and untick Autoplay in the Web Content options (Folio Overlays panel), previewing the page to my iPad *appears* to work in that it shows the widget. However, it's not the widget I'm seeing but the same flat preview image that's visible on the InDesign page. When I touch it, the widget preview vanishes, to be replaced by a blank frame with the 'Tweets by @xxxxxx' link at the top.
I've tried launching the widget in the DPS in-app browser from a button link on the page, as opposed to opening the widget in a frame on the InDesign page, and I get exactly the same results.
I'm so very close but can't persuade DPS to handle the widget properly. Still experimenting...

Terminal and Widget Problems

I am running into an unusual problem with my computer. I used Terminal to allow my widgets to go to the desktop (witch did not work), but when I typed in the command it added the plus and arrow symbol (the same as when you go to widgets on your mac) to my main desktop. How do I fix this?

Fixed this issue by installing XQuartz. After this the DISPLAY environment variable is set to a value.

Are all of your widgets missing?
In Finder, open Macintosh HD, then click on Library, then Widgets. Does this folder have widgets?
If so, it's likely your Dashboard preferences have been corrupted. Click on your home folder, followed by Library, then Preferences and trash these files:
com.apple.dashboard.client.plist
com.apple.dashboard.plist
Log out & back into your account and see if Dashboard is working properly.

Hi, I have a G5 205 + 3 gigs of ram. I am having an interesting problem the widgets on the right of the screen. Their menu drop down to the middle of the screen. Instead of directly below the icon.

Thanks Joseph. Yes I have third party widgets. And I did as you instructed. Thanks to your help I believe I've narrowed the problem down to one widget, RadarInMotion (http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/information/radarinmotion.html). I use to have four of these widgets running at one time, because of my outdoor activities I have become a hobbyist meteorologist and needed four different weather maps. But now I've noticed that if I have more than two of these widgets in the Dashboard all the widgets will freeze.
I'll attempt to come up with another solution for monitoring the weather.

MacBook Pro - Widget problem - Help!

When I set up my new MacBook pro I used the "Migration Assistant" to transfer the information from my PowerBook to my new MacBook. In doing so it appears to have grabbed the default Widgets from my PowerBook and replaced the ones that came preinstalled on my MacBook. Problem is a couple of the default widgets that I use almost daily “Business” (e.g. Yellow pages), and “People” (white pages) aren’t working. Properly. As soon as the dashboard appears these two widgets both have a “lego” type box with a question mark in the middle. Is this because they were coded for the PowerPC equipped PowerBook as opposed to the "universal" MacBook Pro?
I've searched everywhere on Apple.com's Widget page, but I can't seem to find these two widgets so that I can reinstall them. To avoid having to resintall the entire OS for the sake of 2 Widgets, can someone who owns an Intel based Mac please post me a download link where I can download them so that I can reinstall those two widgets?

If you need the widgets that were originally included with your Intel Mac simply download the shareware utility Pacifist 2.0 (www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com) and use it to extract copies from the file archives on your OS X Installer DVD.
As for third-party widgets you can try locating them at various sites including those referenced above as well as at Apple's software and OS X support sites.
Widgets are neither universal nor PPC compiled applications.
Third-party widgets are normally installed automatically in your /Home/Library/Widgets/ folder. The default OS X widgets are installed in the /Library/Widgets/ folder.

Linked In Widget problems...

Linked In widget does not render the same as other social widgets?? Has anyone else seen this? I lined up multiple social widgets horizontally, and the LinkedIn widget will not line up with the others if you try different browsers. If I line them up in in Muse, then in Chrome they all line up, but in Safari the Linked In Widget is higher than all the others. If I move it to line up correctly in Safari, then out of line in Chrome. In muse, it is very obvious that the pick box around the Linked In widget is taller than all the other social widgets and if you try to force it smaller it justs readjusts itself taller. If you right click on it, there is no "Edit HTML" feature for the widget.
Second issue: all the other Social Widget buttons seem to work properly, but ever time i try to actually use the Linked In button after publishing, the pop up box opens but then gives me a red error message in the center of the box.
Suggestions??

Slideshow Widget Problem

Sometimes, the Motorola slideshow widget's buttons quit working. They become grayed out, and I can't change the photo or view a slideshow. This problem occurs almost daily. The only fix I've found is to remove the widget, then place a new one on the panel. I haven't been able to figure out what's causing the problem, either.
Is this a bug that needs to be fixed in an update, or am I missing something about the widget's functionality?
Additionally, the UI on other widgets sometimes becomes scrambled (ie, text or buttons are misaligned, or something of that nature), but only the appearance--not the functionality--is affected. Running advanced task killer fixes these problems, but it doesn't do anything when the slideshow widget messes up.

I have the same problem with the photo widget feature. My photos will change size and shape and not fill up the whole widget box. It has happened everyday on mine too.

Facebook icon widget problems?

I added a facebook widget (the kind you see on every website, not the new badges) useing an html box to my iweb website which is hosted by ipage, here's the problem it doesn't show up after I publish it, but oddly does show up when I see my site on my iphone.
Here's what I put in the html box,

The two chevrons in red I believe are the problem. I believe the second one should be reversed to this ><
That may not be all of the problem but one I observed on the page. Probably was added wrong with SEO when you added the Google site verificdation code.
I noticed that the width of the page is 1380 pixels. Apple suggests 1080 pixels. You might give that a try and tighten up the site a bit. The Facebook widget might to too far to the right. Try moving it to just below the navbar in the body section of the page.

Disk utility says widget problem, but I have no widgets?

Everytime I do a verify and repair permision I get the same thing over and over, widgets permisions and so on. The problem is I deleted all widgets and I have checked both folders and I see nothing.

It may be that since the permissions instructions are stored in the HintFile and just tell DiskUtility to leave them as they are, the widget files don't actually need to be there for the messages to show.
