10.4.6 Causes photobooth Flicker

Just posted further down the page. I just installed 10.4.6 and when I launch photo booth the camera flickers like it is adjusting to the light--never used to do that at all.
I also have the effects page slow down to slow motion when I click on it.
****!

I too have updated to 10.4.6 and am experiencing the same flicker problems in photobooth, interestingly, I read your message before i updated and it worked fine. Having just updated the flickering has started and it is exactly how you describe it. I think Apple need to be made aware of this issue as my little experiement proved that it IS the update that is causing the flicker. Any suggestions

  • Tranitions causing interlace flicker!

    Hi,
    I'm working on 6.0.1 and viewing on an external pal monitor. The sequence is 10 bit uncompressed, as is the material (animated 3D and after effects footage).
    The footage plays perfectly untill i add a transition like push or cross zoom (i know, i know...) which causes the footage used in the transition to flicker like mad.
    I have tried adding de-interlace, flicker filter, blur and all the other things which usualy would solve the problem but nothing makes any difference.
    Does anyone know how to avoid this problem?
    cheers,
    Jay

    I have experienced the same phenomenon in NTSC. I am still trying to isolate a specific solution. What you are seeing is reversed fields (upper & lower fields playing out of order) during the rendered segment. One place to look is under Sequence -> Settings for the sequence your working on. Switch the Field Dominance between the options and re-render to see if that helps.
    Another option may be to highlight your clip(s) and press Command-9, if it allows it (I swear I've been able to do this in the past but it won't let me now with 5.1.2), try to change Field Dominance here as well, possibly to None. You'll have to replace the clips in your seqence if you change a clip setting.

  • Adaptive Portlet Causing Screen Flicker on Dropdowns

    I have a Master Portlet displaying a Datagrid with a Hyperlink column in it that raises a PCC event for an Adaptive portlet. The Detail portlet has a series of DropDown list boxes. When the user clicks on the link to call the PCC and the detail renders the data, the drop downs flicker as if they are posting back, When the user clicks on another link, the drop downs flicker twice, another click, they flicker three times and so on. Anyone else encouonter this?

    Your underpowered system may get by if you edit SD DV material, but is way out of its league when editing AVCHD or Red or DSLR material.
    Without further info to go on, you have the following problems:
    Not enough memory
    No dedicated nVidia video card
    Insufficient PSU
    No hard disks
    About the only thing good about your system is the CPU, but there it ends. Everything else needs to be improved. How much depends on your source material, your workflow, your destination format and all those data were severely missing.

  • Time capsule causing screen flicker/"ripple effect" lines on MBP

    When I wake my MBP up from sleep mode, time capsule sounds like it's waking up to, then it does a backup and when this happens this flicker/ripple effect/wavey line quickly races across the top of my screen a few times then goes away.  Has anyone ever heard of this?  Also is it normal for time capsule to be warm all of the time?

    From what I've read on different posts regarding video card issues and the early 2008 15" MBPs, or "affected models", Apple seems very selective at what they'll honor for repair. Hopefully my MBP will be repaired under this recall, but am not holding my breath.
    My 15" MBP (early 2008 Penryn) has developed video card issues I suspect. It doesn't do the dark screen as others have which Apple is more likely to repair under the recall, but random batches of lined patterns show up on the display, it will blink sometimes, then it will totally lock up forcing a hard shut down with the power button.
    I took it into a local Apple Authorized Service center, they ran the NVIDIA test on it which it passed, showing that the "known" defect wasn't the issue with my computers video card. Well something's screwed up with the video card most likely. They recommended taking it to the Genius bar at the Apple Store which I plan to do. It's less than 3 years old, Good grief!
    I've been an avid Apple user for over 16 years, and have hardly ever run into hardware issues. Guess I've been lucky. But how Apple will handle my MBPs issues is unknown to me. Hopefully it will be positive, but am not holding my breath.

  • Flash Object Causes Video Flicker

    I'm creating a presentation in Director 11 and I'm using a
    static Flash based image in the background (for file size reasons)
    with a video running DTS in the foreground. The video flickers and
    I'm not sure why. its fine if I use a JPG or PSD based background
    image. Any suggestions why this is the case and how I can stop
    it?

    If your Flash file is also set to be DTS, turn it off, that
    may help. There are usually screen problems when you have any two
    guest applications overlapping on the Director stage. This is
    because Director, Flash and Quicktime are all trying to tell the
    screen what to do.

  • Screen Flicker on one side

    Hi, I use an HP  Mini 210-1099.TU. It has served me very well so far but since a few days the right side of the screen doesnt stop fickering. I have tried system restore to an earlier date and taken all steps as advised by 'Windows Help' regarding brightness but nothing seems to work. Kindly guide me as to how this issue can be resolved.
    Thank you!

    Dear Customer,
    Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you.
    Whether your laptop screen flickers occasionally or continuously, it's not only a distraction but it could mean that a hardware problem has developed. Troubleshooting the exact cause of a flickering screen can be challenging, but the cause may be something as minor as a loose cable
    The inverter board provides the laptop's backlight lamp power. It does this by converting AC current to DC. If the inverter board is shorting out or failing, it could cause your laptop screen to flicker
    The backlight lamp provides light to the LCD or LED laptop screen. LCD laptop screens generally use CCFL backlights, while LED screens use LED backlights. Your laptop's screen may flicker if the backlight lamp is failing or if the power cable from the inverter board is not securely connected
    Step 1
    Change the refresh rate to match the capabilities of your monitor. The refresh rate is a measurement of how many times the screen redraws each second. Although this setting is related to older, desktop monitors, it can affect the quality of the Liquid Crystal Displays found in laptops. Right-click the desktop and choose "Screen Resolution," then click "Advanced Settings" and "Monitor." If enabled, place a check beside "Hide Modes That This Monitor Cannot Display" and choose a higher refresh rate from the list.
    Step 2
    Update your graphics card drivers. This is the most likely cause if you've always had a problem with flicker. Look for "Hardware and Sound" in the Control Panel and click "Device Manager." Under "Display Adapters," you'll see the exact brand and model of your video card. Go to the manufacturer's driver Web page and search for this model to download the appropriate drivers. Alternatively, you can revert to an older driver if the flicker began immediately after an update. In this case, return to the Device Manager, right-click your adapter and then "Driver." Click "Roll Back Driver" and "Yes" to confirm.
    Step 3
    Turn on Vertical Sync if the flicker occurs when DirectX or OpenGL is in use, for example, while playing a PC game. Vertical Sync, or VSync, locks the refresh rate of the application to the refresh rate of the monitor. Horizontal flicker is reduced, which improves image quality. For Nvidia cards, VSync is found in "Manage 3D Settings." For Intel, look for "3D Settings" or "Asynchronous Flip." On ATI/AMD cards, turn on "Wait for Vertical Refresh."
    Step 4
    Lower and raise the laptop screen repeatedly to determine if the flicker is related to movement. Hardware failure is the likely cause when flicker occurs only when the laptop moves. Most likely, the screen cable is loose or damaged, but the inverter and backlight can also cause this problem. The laptop needs to be opened in order to confirm the problem, but do not attempt this unless you are familiar with PC repair and do not mind voiding the warranty. For the best results, take the laptop to a licensed technician or send it back to the manufacturer.

  • CS5 AS2 mac projector screen flicker–no flicker from CS3 projector

    I've been working on a flash project for a while using a G5 PowerPC, 10.4.11, Flash CS3 using AS2 and publishing a mac projector/Windows exe. Mac projector has always worked fine. So has the exe. I just upgraded to an iMac, Snow Leopard 10.6.8, AMD card and Flash CS 5.5 v11.5.0.325.
    I'm using the same CS3 AS2 flash file from the old G5 CS3 setup on my new Snow Leopard Mac CS 5.5 setup. When I publish it, the mac projector flickers like crazy. It looks to be an animated png issue. But I have never had that problem on my old slow G5 - the projector always played perfect, no flicker.
    On this CS5.5 generated projector, the flickering occurs on the splash - large png files, but my G3 never had one issue. Also, my small png rollovers flicker - not just the animation. And the screen flickers non stop when there's no mouse activity.
    I copied over a backup of my CS3 generated projector onto my new computer and played it to see if it was a graphics card issue. No flicker! The CS3 projector plays perfect on my new Mac. All content within the two projectors are identical - What gives?
    Why is CS5.5 generated projector flickering, but the exact same file from a CS3 generated projector works perfect on BOTH computers?
    I've spent several hours searching for the answer but can't find a flicker issue similar to mine.
    I don't have bitmap caching enabled. I didn't change any of the default settings in CS5.5. I just copied the CS3 file to my new computer and published it, then I got instant screen flicker. I don't know what other settings to change for projectors. Never had performance issues with projectors or exe files, no matter how old the computer was that was playing the file.
    This must be a Flash setting issue, but I can't find it.
    By the way, the cs5.5 genertated exe file plays like a champ - no issues.
    Ideas?

    I also tried publishing the projector in flash player 9 and 10 to see if that would make a difference. It did not. I was publishing in flash player 8 on my old G5 computer and that's what I published it as through CS5.5 as well. That didn't work either. I'm search for some sort of fs command AS2 issue when using CS5.5 to see if I need to change the code, but have not found anything yet.
    It's the full screen mode that is causing the flicker though - only when published from CS5.5. Full screen mode works out of a CS3 projector on both computers.
    Screwy.

  • Extremely Bizarre Flicker (not interlacing)

    i have footage that i'm trying to export as a quicktime movie but under different encoding. right now i'm trying to export using cinepack or mp4 and with both the product i get flickers on only the edit points. it's as if all the individual segments have been stretched out one frame and there is blank space causing the flicker.
    any ideas at all?

    Are you viewing this on an external monitor? What video codec are you editing?

  • Flash content causing background re-draw in IE & FF3+

    Whenever I include flash content on a page it causes IE & FF3+ to redraw the background.  This does not happen in Google Chrome, Safari, or FF2.
    On every page of my site there is a small flash animation that is in a hidden div.  That flash content become visible and plays on a mouse-over event.  That all works fine.  However, in the above mentioned browsers, that flash content causes the site's background to be redrawn on every page-load, causing a flicker.  Is there any way to prevent this?  A google search revealed other people having the same issue, but no resolution.
    You can view the problem here:
    http://jugtones.com
    (Run your mouse over the animation in the lower-right corner to trigger the flash animation)
    Removing the flash content fixes the issue, but I of course would like to keep it.  Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

  • Flicker after rendering

    I'm a newby to Premiere Pro CC and this forum, who is just learning the basics of editing. Things were going really well until I started trying to render my clips after applying effects.
    Rendering produces a flicker, as if the aperture on the camera is being adjusted.
    I'm shooting 4k footage off a GH4. The clips are clean and play smoothly in the source monitor, but are very stuttery after I make colour corrections, alter the luma curve or add sharpening.
    Mysteriously, a few of the clips are perfectly smooth and do not flicker at all.
    I haven't tried exporting any of the affected sequences, and think it unlikely this would make any difference.
    Might it be my rather pedestrian graphics card, which does not support GPU acceleration? The processor on my machine is fast, and I've 8GB of RAM to work with - so well within the suggested minimum system requirements. But rendering is very slow.
    Any advice gratefully received.

    Thanks for your reply Richard.
    Looking at the rendered video on Vimeo, your problem seems slightly different to mine. Whereas you have a kind of strobing effect, my rendered sequence just has slight exposure changes in quick succession - flickers equivalent to around one stop of exposure.
    It is definitely the addition of effects that is causing the problem, as clips without effects added render perfectly. I've also compared the effects to see if it may be one particular adjustment at the root, but there is no apparent pattern. It seems adding curves adjustments, contrast, colour correction or warp stabilizer causes the flicker - so something generic rather than specific.
    My system specs are:
    Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU         870 @ 2.93GHz, 2934 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
    8 gigs of RAM
    Graphics card - ATI Radeoon HD 5700 Series, with approx 4 gig of memory.
    The first thing to work out is whether a more expensive and powerful graphics card would solve the problem. It would definitely speed up playback and rendering, but would it actually prevent the flicker? Could the fault and relative weakness of the card possibly be connected? Obviously I'd rather canvas opinion on that before spending £500 on a new graphics card (I can live with the slow playback and rendering speeds for the time being).
    In the meantime, I'll experiment with footage off different cameras just to exclude the possibility that it's the 4K files off the GH4 causing the problem - I should add that those files are no larger than the ones off a Canon 5D II.
    Thanks!

  • SWFLoader causing a re-draw of parent application's background

    Hi,
    I have an application that has a menuBar in it. When a menu item is selected from the menuBar, a SWFLoader is supposed to load the specified URL
    Everytime a new URL gets loaded to the SWFLoader, an unloadAndStop takes place then the new one is then loaded.
    public static function createSWFLoader():SWFLoader{
       var loaderContext:LoaderContext = new LoaderContext();   loaderContext.securityDomain = SecurityDomain.currentDomain;
       loaderContext.applicationDomain = ApplicationDomain.currentDomain;
       var swfLoader:SWFLoader = new SWFLoader();   swfLoader.autoLoad =
    true;  swfLoader.loaderContext = loaderContext;
       swfLoader.percentHeight = 100;
       swfLoader.percentWidth = 100;
       swfLoader.cachePolicy = UIComponentCachePolicy.OFF;
       return swfLoader;}
     public static function unloadSWFLoader(swfLoader:SWFLoader):void{
          var loaderContext:LoaderContext = new LoaderContext();   loaderContext.securityDomain = SecurityDomain.currentDomain;
       loaderContext.applicationDomain = ApplicationDomain.currentDomain;
        var swfLoader:SWFLoader = new SWFLoader();   swfLoader.autoLoad =
    true;   swfLoader.loaderContext = loaderContext;
       swfLoader.percentHeight = 100;
       swfLoader.percentWidth = 100;
       swfLoader.cachePolicy = UIComponentCachePolicy.OFF;
       return swfLoader;
     public static function loadSWFLoader(swfLoader:SWFLoader, height, width,
    url:String,
    parentContainer):
    void{
         swfLoader.height = height;     swfLoader.width = width;
         parentContainer.width = width;
         parentContainer.height = height;
    So the applicaiton calls createSWFLoader followed by unloadSWFLoader then loadSWFLoader. Unfortunatelly, after it is done loading, a re-draw of the main applicaition's background seems to happen, so the user sees a flicker in the screen. I am not sure why this is happening. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Not sure what is causing the flicker.  It could be bad behavior from the
    loaded SWF.
    BTW, by specifying the loaderContext the way you are, the SWFs will not
    unload.  They'll probably stop playing, but won't unload.  You have to use a
    child or sibling appdom.

  • How to remove flicker effect from screens / projections?

    Hey,
    I wondered if there's an option within Premiere Pro CC ( or AE) to remove flicker effects from screens and projections. I attached a jpg as an example of such a projection. Here is an anti flicker option in Premiere Pro, but it doesn't seem to have an effect on my problem.
    Cheers

    You need to shoot scenes like that using a camera that allows Synchro-Scan, which can adjust the cameras scanning rate to that of the display in the shot.  Any mismatch between camera and siaplay is what causes the flicker, and Synchro-Scan is the only way to correct it without entirely removing the screen from teh shot and replacing it with another, usually via After Effects.

  • Flicker with heavyweight swing component and setVisible(false) on Linux

    Hi All,
    I'm using Java 6 update 14 on Ubuntu Jaunty.
    I'm developing a GUI for a system running linux. I'm using the Swing framework for the GUI but need to include 3D animation accelerated in hardware. I'm using the JOGL framework for applying the 3D animations which supplies one with two swing-like components, the GLJPanel and GLCanvas. These two components are lightweight and heavyweight swing components respectively.
    The difficulty arises when adding the heavyweight GLCanvas component into the gui. Often I need to do a setVisible(false) on the component in which case the GLCanvas hides correctly, but shows a flicker before the background is displayed. On digging a little deeper I found that because the GLCanvas is heavyweight, on linux it calls down to the sun.awt.X11 classes to do the setVisible(false) on hide. The very deepest call, the xSetVisible(false) method of the XBaseWindow class, causes the component to be replaced by first a grey backgound, and then the correct background. This intermediate grey background is causing the flicker.
    The source for the sun.awt.X11 packages was not available with the standard JDK 6 but I've found the open jdk source which matches the steps taken by the call. The xSetVisible method is as follows:
    0667:            public void xSetVisible(boolean visible) {
    0668:                if (log.isLoggable(Level.FINE))
    0669:                    log.fine("Setting visible on " + this  + " to " + visible);
    0670:                XToolkit.awtLock();
    0671:                try {
    0672:                    this .visible = visible;
    0673:                    if (visible) {
    0674:                        XlibWrapper.XMapWindow(XToolkit.getDisplay(),
    0675:                                getWindow());
    0676:                    } else {
    0677:                        XlibWrapper.XUnmapWindow(XToolkit.getDisplay(),
    0678:                                getWindow());
    0679:                    }
    0680:                    XlibWrapper.XFlush(XToolkit.getDisplay());
    0681:                } finally {
    0682:                    XToolkit.awtUnlock();
    0683:                }
    0684:            }I've found that the XlibWrapper.XFlush(XToolkit.getDisplay()) line (680) causes the grey to appear and then the XToolkit.awtUnlock(); line repaints the correct background.
    Using the lightwieght GLJPanel resolves this issue as it is a light weight component but unfortunately I'm unable to use it as the target system does not have the GLX 1.3 libraries required because of intel chipset driver issues (it has GLX 1.2). I cannot enable the opengl pipline either (-Dsun.java2d.opengl=True) for the same reason.
    Is there a way to configure a heavyweight component to avoid the operation in line 680? As far as I can tell, the flicker would disappear and the display would still be correctly rendered had this line not been executed. This problem is not present in windows.
    I've put together a minimal example of the problem. It requires the JOGL 1.1.1 libraries in the classpath. They can be found here: [JOGL-download|https://jogl.dev.java.net/servlets/ProjectDocumentList?folderID=11509&expandFolder=11509&folderID=11508]
    I've also found that running the program with the -Dsun.awt.noerasebackground=true vm argument reduces the flicker to just one incorrect frame.
    The program creates a swing app with a button to switch between the GLCanvas and a normal JPanel. When switching from the GLCanvas to the JPanel a grey flicker is noticeable on Linux. Step through the code in debug mode to the classes mentioned above to see the grey flicker frame manifest.

  • Distorted (flicker and lines) video on first gen MacBook Air

    I just had my harddisk replaced by the local Apple Store two weeks ago. Aside from the absurd experience of not being able to keep my harddrive, everything seemed fine. About four days after the replacement, the screen started acting funny. There are subtle horizontal lines that form on the screen that cause either flicker or blurring. They are not wide; they are not constant; and, they are not pleasant. Interestingly, I think the lines move with scrolls -- that is, they seem to be a screen buffer issue, not a screen issue.
    Does anyone know how to fix this? I don't have the time, the patience, or the money to take this poorly built machine to the Apple Store yet again.

    I have the same problem with my MacBook Air. When applying pressure (using the palm of my hand) on the back of the screen (where the illuminated apple is located) pushing the lower center of the case and the display would normalize. Therefore, I was able to localize my issue to a problem with the *LCD LED LVDS Cable* versus the display or the display's connector.
    I determined this after removing the bezel from around the screen (it is held together by two side tape - no screws) and manipulated the LCD LED LVDS Cable until the video image was restored.
    I do not know if this is your issue. However, based in the fact that your computer had the hard drive replaced; I would remove the bottom of the case in order to verify that the LCD LED LVDS Cable is securely plugged into the motherboard.
    One other possibility is that there is a problem with the video chip.
