10.4.6 + InDesign CS2 =  Total Disaster.  PLEASE HELP.

After installing 10.4.6 my Adobe InDesign CS2 no longer works. It crashes every time I start it up. I've repaired permissions, cleared caches and troubleshooted the system fonts folder. No luck. PLEASE HELP. I'm missing deadlines, losing money and sweating bullets.
I can't believe Apple wouldn't test this update on all Adobe Design Apps and end up alienating their core audience. Shocking.
Any advice or fix for this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
G5 Dual Core 2.3   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The one thing you should have done was create a clone of your system hard drive on a firewire external disk, then you could have booted from that and kept working then returned to deal with the 10.4.6 problems later when deadlines aren't looming. Remember that for next time.
There should be no problem running IDCS2 in 10.4.6, something else is wrong. Get Disk Warrior and run repairs.
If necessary do an Archive and Install of Tiger, then a full update to 10.4.6 (Repairing Permissions before and after everything), then reinstall InDesign (test InDesign after the Archive and Install first, it might be fixed just from that). This is practically a sure thing so if deadlines are getting tight you might just want to go right for this instead of messing around with other fixes first.
And whatever you do get an external firewire drive and SuperDuper! and make a clone of your drive so everything is backed up and you always have a fail-safe system to fall back on.

    Hello Thisbemadi,
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Please ensure you are charging your iPad with the Apple cable and power adapter that came with the device.  If the issue persists, reset your iPad to its factory settings and try charging again.

  • CS4 InDesign Error Code 5 - PLEASE HELP (!)

    Hi, please please if any of you have suggestions to solve this problem or ANYTHING, please lend me a hand!
    I tried to contact suppose-to-be open 24/7 customer service but on the phone the automated female voice tells you it is actually Mon-Friday. LOL.
    OK, here is my problem.
    My computer had to be rebooted yesterday morning, nothing unusual as it often happens.
    Rebooted my Mac and tried uploading few InDesign files later on in the day.
    Other files that were on before rebooting restored themselves but then an Error message came up with one file,
    "Cannot open "file name.indd".
    The file "file name.indd" is damaged and cannot be recovered (Error code 5)"
    I am one of those Ctrl+S freaks so my work was saved before the reboot.
    If the problem is within the restoring file system then why are all the other files safe and sound?
    After intense googling on the matter, I suspect that it might be the size of the file.
    I read a few cases where cos the file was too big, they had the same Error code 5 and lost them.
    127.5MB is the size of the file but there have been no warnings previously nor was I informed that the size would cause a FATAL problem like this.
    Anyway I tried out about all of the potential solutions given on Google.
    -Quit and restarted InDesign.
    -Rebooted Mac.
    -Moved the file in to a portable hard drive and  tried opening from there.
    -Opened from other programs such as Photoshop etc.
    -Created a new computer account and re-installed InDesign.
    -Deleted and recreated InDesign Preference.
    -Tried it the next day.
    PLEASE help me...
    That file happened to be THE MOST IMPORTANT one out of them all.
    I spent few weeks working on that with hardly any rest or sleep.
    The deadline is too close for comforts....please help.

    Copy + Paste or Dragging them on to the page.
    Does this make the file size too big to handle cos of all the links?
    If so, why has it happened now?
    Why has it not happened instantly or gave me a warning about the file size?
    Thank you for the feedback, I really apprecaite it.
    Even though it may mean my file's lost forever at least I know better now. Thanks.
    There are no links when you copy/paste. When you say drag, do you mean from Bridge or Finder/Explorer, or from Photshop? Dragging from Photoshop is the same as copy/paste. All you get is low-res screen preview embedded in the document.
    I suspect this doc may be as large as it is because it hase a lot of useless change information in it. ID save all the change info each time you hit save. When the doc is closed, that information is still retained, but is no longer usable. To reduce file size you should do a "Save As."
    Have you tried deleting the recovery information and opeing the file from the menu? I don't think it will help, but it might.

  • How can I create a new iCloud account on a preowned phone (with that persons account signed on) without deleting their whole account entirely (on all devices)? Totally confused, please help:-(

    My mum has upgraded to the iPhone 5, she has given me her 4S with a new contract etc. the problem is all her contacts are still on here and calendar dates etc . All from her iCloud account. I have my own account but I don't know how to get my phone on that without deleting her iCloud account entirely and from all devices and her new phone. Please help, I'm probably confusing things more but I really need some help

    Just delete her iCloud account from (now) your iPhone 4s - doing so will delete it from your phone and your phone only.  It will do nothing to any of her devices with her iCloud account set up on them.
    Then login in with your iCloud account login to set up your iCloud account on that iPhone 4S.
    If you want to set up the iPhone 4s with a clean slate, just delete her iCloud account, then go into general settings, under the reset tab and select "erase all content and settings".  Then run through the activation and setup dialogues with your own information.

  • InDesign Mac CS2 -- Screen Jumping -- Please help!

    I write and edit in InDesign for much of the day on 11x17 layouts, so I am usually zoomed in at least 200% to save my eyes. The problem is, whenever I type, the screen recenters itself continuously, sometimes the cursor will barely be on the pages and often in one of the screen's corners, severly slowing my work.
    Is there any way to just get the screen to stay still and not have to constantly redraw to save me from scrolling every time I make a change on a page, which is easily many hundreds of times per day? Even if it just centered on the cursor that would be a godsend.
    Coworkers with the same version do not have this problem.

    Not sure if I have a font manager plugin installed, as there's nothing under the plugins bar. But there is a font manager application, Extensis Suitcase (?). I'll try closing it, but I was told it needs to be open for my fonts to work. Thanks Peter.
    Any other ideas -- perhaps a preference panel I'm missing? And if it's a CS2 thing, I can't upgrade, even for regular updates.

  • Rolling totals query ~ please help

    I have been stuck on a query for the last week. It would be amazing if someone could help me with this. nothing I have done has worked so far.  I did post something a few days ago and was helped a bit but it just didnt work out the way I needed. This has been the hardest query I have ever worked on.
    Im using oracle 11g.
    What I am trying to do is get a bunch of running aggregate values based on dates of multiple projects.
    I have did an export of the ddl for the actual table and records, I did not want to just post a sample of the data as it includes many records and I think it might actually be easier to have the full extract.
    here is the link to the file http://santoro.us/pl_insert.sql
    In the table I have IPS (which is a project id), create date, complete date, logged_date, status, due date (these are all the important columns)
    What I am trying to get as an end result is 1 table or 1 view that has all the running totals per month for each project.
    Here are the totals im looking to get
    Open
    Closed
    open late
    closed late
    open on time closed on time
    The thing is I need to start the months per project from the first month the project has a record. So if a projects first record starts on jan 1 2010 thats when the first record with totals should be, 01/2010 , then 02/2010, 03/2010, etc..until the current month. This has to be done per project.
    so for example lets say there are only 2 projects (there are many more).
    IPS 123
    first record starts 01/01/2010
    IPS 456
    first record starts 01/01/2011
    each have records that open and close on different dates in different months. some might be late (complete date > due date),  some closed on time (complete date <= due date).
    end result would be a table that has :
    Date |  IPS | open | closed | open late | closed late | open on time | closed on time |
    01/2010 | 123 | 1 |  0 | etc..
    months would go all the way to current month
    then start proj 2
    01/2011 | 456 | 1 | 0 | etc..
    months would go all the way to current month
    each record would be counted starting the create date of the record. As the records get late or closed (based on due date and complete date) then need to be added/removed from the running totals of the data.
    This all has to be in 1 table or view. I know some people might say this is wrong way to do it but thats how it has to be done for the project im working on. Im generating xml at the end so the developer needs it like this.
    Again thank you for any help and please let me know if you need any other information.
    thank you.

    Frank. No problem. that is great that it doesnt need ad hoc tables and could be done in pure sql. As I said this is the hardest query i have ever worked on. If you could help i would be greatful. I realize this forum is priceless resource and has helped me many times.
    Please let me know if I should post anything else.
    I am having a hard time understanding how I would dispaly each month with the aggregrated rolling totals from start month to current month for each project.

  • Adobe After Effects (CS2) Question. Please Help!!!

    Hi All,
    I use Adobe After Effects CS2 and I am currently trying to make a still 2D Photoshop CS2 Image, into a 3D Short Movie (7 Seconds or so) on After Effects. However, when I import my Photoshop Image into After Effects, it only has a time duration of 2 Frames (0.2 Seconds I think?). I need this duration of time for the picture increased (as it is a still picture movie) but I'm not sure how to do it after fiddling around with my After Effects for about 2 - 3 Hours. I need to be able to put the time duration of my picture so it is able to be showing up on screen for about 15 Seconds. Also, how to you add 3D Text onto an After Effects picture? (In the movie). I really need help with this as I want this After Effects Film to be completed ASAP!!!
    Any help would be highly appreciated!
    Regards,
    TheAAPlus

    > Is CS6 now free?
    No, though there is a free 30-day trial.

  • Can't get column to total! PLEASE HELP!

    I have a very simple "calculation" scenario. I have 11 fields stacked on top of each other. 10 are "cost" fields and the "total" field is the 11th field. I would like to enter $ amounts in fields 1-10 and have them total out in field 11. I can get the "cost" fields to display correctly, but I can't seem to get anything to display in the "total" field. I know what the problem is...
    Hi, my name is Mary, and I have been a "CODE IDIOT" for... EVER!!!
    I thought that by going through the tutorials something would click, but all of the "Explanations" are more confusing then the original question. Can someone give me an IDIOTS explanation as to how to accomplish my task... keeping in mind that this is DAY 2 of my experience with Adobe Designer 7...thank you :OP

    There should be plenty examples that come with Designer. You can take a look at the form called 'invoice' which has all one line of code behind the total field.

  • Bridge cs2 batch problem - please help!!! desperate!!

    I have a macos 10.4.11 G5 Mac and I'm running Creative Suite CS2 - I used to always be able to select images in bridge go to - Tools - Photoshop - Contact Sheet II - and the window would come up fine - the last couple of days when I try to do that it gives me the error message of "General Photoshop Error" - I really need for it to work for the project I'm doing - just limping along now.
    Thank you in advance for your help

    yes, photoshop is open and I even closed it and tried it that way and still the same thing; it worked fine a couple of days ago - if I'm in photoshop I can do a contact sheet ii and select the open files and it works just fine - it is just so much convenient to do it in bridge where you can select the files you want (in case i have files open in Photoshop I don't want to batch). I hope this makes sense.
    P.S. Photoshop seems to be getting really pokey - I even made a new preference file (but to no avail)

  • CS2 and CS4 please Help!

    I recently upgraded from CS2 to CS4, and I'm very happy with it!  i have it on my desktop computer, but what I was wondering is if it would be possible (since i no longer have CS2 installed on this machine) to install CS2 on my laptop? or would the registration of it conflict with CS4 on this machine?
    Any and all help would be greatly apreciated! this is my first time posting to the Adobe forums so I hope that this is in the right section =)

    It is too easy.
    I can't make myself get rid of ID2 and IDCS, though I no longer use them (or IDCS2) for production.

  • Data Export From InDesign CS6 to Excel Please Help

    Hi!
    I need to export text from a 416 page catalog into an excel document. The text is formatted with paragraph and character style sheets, but the text frames do not link together. Or is there a way to export the text from InDesign with the page number into a text file, then the text file into an Excel document. Thank you so much for your help!

    That is not possible. You're going from a "smart" layout application to a dumb one.
    I don't think you could even place it as a PDF file of the text into Word and have it work.

  • Totally Confused - Please help..

    The code below is my page. Now.. every time I submit this form it sees v_yesno as neither yes OR no (i've changed the if statement to see if it sees no as well).. I wanted to see if my v_yesno variable was returning yes or no so I did a redirect... now when redirects it goes to page.jsp?id=yes. (OR "NO" depending). How is it that the yes (or no) is getting passed.. but my if statement isn't seeing it? what I am doing wrong?
    <%
    v_yesno=request.getParameter("f_yesno");
    if (v_yesno == "yes")
    a code
    else
    b code
    response.sendRedirect(response.encodeURL("page.jsp?id="+ v_yesno+""));
    %>
    <html>
    <head>
    function s_checkyesno()
    if(document.page1.f_yesno.value.length < 1)
    document.page1.f_yesno.value = "no";
    else
    document.page1.f_yesno.value = "yes";
    </head>
    <body>
    <form method="post" action="page.jsp" name="page1">
    Name: <input type=text value="" name=f_yesno>
    <br> <input type="submit" name="selected" value="Update"></form>
    </body>
    </html>

    I think I didn't explain my question well enough. Hehe.. Here let me try it differently..
    This would be my code:
    <%
    v_yesno=request.getParameter("f_yesno");
    if (v_yesno == "yes")
    do code A
    else
    do code B
    %>
    <input type=radio value="yes" name=f_yesno> YES
    <input type=radio value="no" name=f_yesno> NO
    </body>
    </html>
    When someone chooses YES, and submits the form is not recognizing the value "yes".. but when I spit out the value of v_yesno it's value is "yes". So I'm unsure why my if statement is not seeing the "yes".

    @s_ashok – you'll find the right methods and properties in the CHM file for InDesign CS2 at:
    http://www.jongware.com/idjshelp.html
    Just a few hints:
    InDesign CS2 does not support GREP search/replace, so every line in your code that points to GREP does not work.
    Further: "app.findTextPreferences" and "app.changeTextPreferences" were "app.findPreferences" and "app.changePreferences" in InDesign CS2. And then there were no "findChangeTextOptions" or any counterpart for that in CS2…
    That should get you running…
    I have no InDesign CS2 installed to debug, so this is all I can say…

    Thank you in advance for your help
    It gives me the same error for the photoshop processes in bridge (PDF, Batch etc...!
    and also for the indesign - says it can't find the paths - I've already reset the bridge preferences!
    and Dr. Brown's stuff also.
    ***If i'm in photoshop and go to file - automate - contact sheet II - it will work but the "selected images from bridge is greyed out!

    For refreshing PS prefs hold down cmd + Option + Shift while restarting PS
    and choose refresh preferences.
    For plist, quit both applications and go to the user library preferences
    folder and look for both PS and Bridge plist files.
    I would advice to first of all try the PS prefs and then after checking each
    time delete the plist file for Bridge and last PS.
    Without knowing if you have the opportunity for it consider an upgrade to
    CS4. Bridge CS4 is way better then the CS2 version and also PS has a large
    number of improvements
    Final, check if you have the latest updates for CS2 and Bridge. I don't know
    the correct numbers anymore but Bridge should be at least 1.02, that was a
    significant update.
    MAC OS 10.4.11 running CS2 - could you please help me locate the plist files
    I'm supposed to delete for both of them - and about refreshing the preferences
    for photoshop. Thank you so much for your prompt response.

  • Itunes connection and Passcode problem (Please Help!!)

    So, my computer recently was broken beyond repair.. so when I got a new computer and redownloaded itunes i tried to connect my itouch to charge it and i noticed it said "Itunes cannot open ipod in library please imput password on ipod" I never put a password on it... aparently one of my friends did. So I was being a total DA and attempted to guess the password too many times now the ipod's disabled untill i can connect to itunes and itunes wont let me connect untill I get the password, I'm at a total loss please help!

    You need to place the iPod in recovery mode and then connect it to your new computer and restore it via iTunes. Note that you will lose all content on the iPod. You can redownload apps at no additional cost provided you are signed into the same iTunes account that originally purchased the apps.
