10.4.6 install on G4 iMac failing
Hello,
Trying to install 10.4.6 on a G4 iMac, 800 Mhz, 768 MB RAM, 15" flat panel.
It originally had 10.2 on it but I wiped it clean to start fresh with this OS. The problem begins during the install of "Essentials." It's after the install of the basic OS items, so, I guess it'd be the second phase of the install. It gets to 66%-67% of the Essentials and then I get - "There were errors installing the software" and "Please try again" with the option to restart.
I've checked the disk with Disk Utility and it checks out ok so that seems to be a good sign. I've wiped it clean each time so there should be nothing holding this install back. The disc is clean with no scratches and it's worked on another system before so I'm lost. Now, my cousin has no Mac and I need to finish this up. Does anyone know how to get around this? I've looked around on the forums and don't see much in the way of my problem so I can't get an easy answer from anywhere. Any help anyone can offer me will be incredibly appreciated! Let me know if you need more information as well.

I did check the box and disc to see if it was machine specific and it only says that a g3, g4, or g5 processor and the specific amount of memory is required.
I've done the erase and install - that was actually my first choice - and at 67% of the Installing Essentials it died again. I even tried to get fancy and set it to target disk mode and hooked it up to my MacBook to see what happens. Well the disc wouldnt run since its for PPC and not a universal binary. I have a neighbor with a PowerBook that I'll try to TDM again with later.
My feeling is that it may have something to do with the DVD drive. Looking around on the Internet showed people replacing their drives and the install working fine right away. So, if the target mode works from another drive the problem would be solved. Do you know of or have any other ideas or suggestions?

You need to uninstall and do a fresh install with your serial number -
IMac upgrade from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Mavericks errors by failing to restart computer........after install message states that "your computer is restarting in x seconds"...then window appears that "application install OS x Mavericks failed to quit"...try to log out again, quit install OS x Mavericks and choose apple menu to log out...........this does not work!
Are you running OS X Server (the forum this question was posted in), or are you running OS X? If you're not sure what that difference is and why I'm asking it, then you're probably running OS X and are very likely not running OS X Server here.
Hopefully you have a pre-upgrade backup of your data, on the off chance something has either already gone badly wrong already, or if something goes wrong with the following...
To force the quit here and to force the shutdown here, press and hold the power button for ~10 seconds.
If you don't have a backup already and if the box doesn't reboot, then you'll want to boot from the 10.6 DVD (of OS X or OS X Server) and create a backup — it won't be a particularly good backup of the OS X or OS X Server system, but at least you'll have access to your own files and related data. This backup because recovering from a badly-failed upgrade might involve reinstalling OS X. -
Can't install CC package after failed initial installation - Mac OS X

Recently my institution took the plunge and made the move to adopt Creative Cloud. As part of the switchover from CS5, I'm being used as one of the guinea pigs.
Upon first-time installation of the provided Creative Cloud package (which has installed correctly for others in my office), my iMac shut down, this obviously interrupting the installation. After restarting I Googled what to do and found forum entries on what files to remove (as there were some left over form the first installation) and followed them.
Unfortunately, when I try to install the package it fails with a generic message, and nothing is installed. I also can't run the uninstaller (same error).
Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated!Correct diagnosis. When I went back and downloaded the PowerPC version, it worked fine. The Intel version works fine on my MacBook Pro, too!

I have face time installed on my iMac but when I go to the app store it doesn't show installed and has a.99c price. All other apps show installed. Is this an upgrade?
The first thing to do: Make a backup of your iPhoto Library. Don't update iPhoto without having a backup of your iPhoto library.
When I tried I received the following message This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.
This error message means, that you did not yet associate your copy of iPhoto (preinstalled on your Mac) with your AppleID by clicking the "accept" button at AppStore "Purchased" page.
First try to "Accept" iPhoto on the Purchased tab and try, if you then can update iphoto from the Updates tab.
Now check the "Purchased" tab. Is iPhoto among your Purchases to "Accept" or "Install"? Then accept and/or install.
If it is not possible, delete iPhoto from the Applications folder .
(don't empty the Trash).
If it is not among your Purchases, open the AppStore main tab, search for iPhoto using the Search field, and buy it from the AppStore. If you already owned any version of iPhoto '11, this purchase should be free, from earlier versions it may be a paid upgrade.

I can delete the existing software and re-install but I don't want to lose all my photos.
Your photos are in your iPhoto Library in your Pictures folder and not in the iPhoto application. Just back up the iPhoto Library as a precaution, but reinstalling iPhoto will not delete your iPhoto Library. -
My iMac fails when I try to upgrade from Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I have to boot up from disk. Does anyone know how to overcome this problem? I need to upgrade in order to install latest software.
It would be lovely to know what your talking about. Upgrading from Snow Leopard does not involve discs.
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.

1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
or Xeon processor

I want to repair my HD, but my iMac fails to boot from either the Leopard install DVD or the original install CD for OS X. What can I do?

Thanks for your reply. How and what with both installers: I hold down the "C" key until the Apple logo appears. The only thing that happenshat happens is that the little "sunball" spins interminably. I waited at least 10 minutes before deciding that it was hopeless.

I saved my "users" folder to an external HD. I did erase and install on my imac. Now how do i get the accounts to open up on the fresh installation?

Have CS 5 Installed on my iMac and works ok. But installed on my new MacBook Pro it won't open NEF files from my Nikon D810. Displays NEF icons, but when I try and open them the response is: Make sure latest RAW updates are installed. If problem persists follow link: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111. Have installed Bridge 5.0.2.4; Raw Ref Version 7.0.0.308; DNG converter_8_7_1.dmg; Bridge 5.0.2 Update 2. Also same problem with Lightroom which I don't normally use. Lightroom_3_LS11_mac_3_6.dmg installed.
In the link you posted it states that the Nikon 810 requires ACR 8.6 or newer.
Version of ACR are specific to versions of Photoshop. You cannot use 8.6 nor even 7.0.in CS5.
I believe that ACR 6.7 is the latest that will work with CS5, so make sure you have this installed and get rid of ACR 7.
Having 2 versions of ACR will cause problems.
You have already downloaded DNG Converter 8.7.1.
Have you double clicked the DMG file to allow you to install DNG Converter on your computer?
Be aware that DNG converter is a stand-along application and not a plug-in.
You need to open DNG converter at select the FOLDER that contain your .NEF files.
Don't open the folder and try to select individual files, it doesn't work that way.
After converting your D810 files to DNGs you can then open the DNGs in CS5
The problem is your camera didn't exist when CS5 & its version of ACR was developed.
i don't use Lightroom, but the list mentions Lightroom 5.6 as needed to open D819 so your 3.6 version of LR won't cut it. -
I have Elements 13 (I have the hard copy) installed on my iMac using Yosemite. I do all my iPhoto work on an external drive where I have copied my iPhoto Library, can I also install Elements 13 on my external harddrive or drag Elements 13 over from my iMac so that I can do work with Elements 13 via the exteranl hard drive? Yes you can store images on an external hard dive and have them referenced in Organizer. It’s best to export copies to separate folders/subfolders and that will ensure iPhoto does not get corrupted.
Alternatively you could continue to use iPhoto with the Elements Editor set up in the iPhoto prefs as your external editing app. Then there is no need to use Organizer and no need to duplicate your images.
You can then call up photos directly from iPhoto as normal with the additional option e.g.
Double-click on a thumbnail to edit in iPhoto editor.
Control (right) - click on a thumbnail to edit in the elements app.

Numerous attempts at a clean install of iTunes have failed. I am running Win7 64 bit on a Toshiba L series Satellite w/8G RAM and 100 G HDD space. Error message was (-42404), but following a complete (recommended) uninstall am now getting "Error 7". The prior uninstall included the establishment of administrator rights to files and folders left in the Apple folder after running the uninstaller, and successfully removing ALL visible and hidden Apple files and folders.
Any other suggestions out there folks?On Oracle Metalink site, there are many documents which says that Oracle 32 bit software works on 32 bits OS and 64 bits software works on 64 bits OS. Official support is only in those combination....
So there is no good way to help you in your case-XE is 32 bit application with hard codded compiled libraries which most of them would not work on 64 bit OS.

I just had a new hard drive installed on my iMac
i just had a new hard drive installed on my iMac (due to the Seagate replacement program) i was able to migrate my back up(i think) but its now acting like a new computer and i can't get past the registration screen. I filled everything out but the "continue" button won't highlight and let me cxontinue.

Install of Flash 10 failing - "run preflight script" - Mac OS X 10.5.6
I tried to install Flash 10 - and it asks me to close the "Dashboard Client" of Mac OS X and after I click close on the flash install window, the installation fails. A message says that the failure occurs during "run preflight script" and to contact the software developer.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any fixes or way around it?!Got the problem as well, a little bit frustrating, i have the problem with BOTH flash 10 and photoshop elements 3 why isn't adobe willing to help us? I think this is quite dissapointing when you take into account the software costs ±$100 I also have Mac OSX 10.5.7

Mac OS 9 will NOT install on 350MHz iMac
recently i acquired an old imac g three, and it has 256mb of ram and it had a password set on it so i decided to format the disk and installed 10.2 on it. turns out in order to install panther i need to install the firmware update so i have to make a partition of os 9 and install it. problem is the computer will NOT RECOGNIZE THE DISC. i have tried holding c, holding option, and formatting at least three times (while checking install mac os 9 drivers) to install the outdated abandonware and IT DOES NOT WORK.
could it have to do with the pram battery being out? i know some people who have this problem however. it's very annoyig and i just want to get this thing back on its feet.
thank you if you can help.The 350 MHz iMacs built between Oct. 1999 and July 2000 (model identifier PowerMac2,1) originally shipped with OS 8.6. These came in six colors: Blueberry, Grape, Strawberry, Tangerine, Lime, and Graphite. You need a full retail copy of OS 9 to install on this iMac.
The 350 MHz iMacs built between July 2000 and Feb. 2001 (model identifier PowerMac2,2) did ship with OS 9.0.4. These came five colors: Indigo, Ruby, Sage, Snow, and Graphite. You'd need an OS 9 original disk for these machines or a full retail copy of OS 9 to install on it.
Apple made hardware specific original OS install disks for each model of iMac that shipped. If you put these original disks in a machine that didn't have the correct hardware, they wouldn't work. So you may have a copy of OS 9 that was shipped with a different version of the iMac you have.
You can check eBay for retail copies of OS 9.
All that being said, it might just be the PRAM battery.
