10.4.6 MacOs Reinstall

Hey guys,
My problem is a bit complicated.
Once day flashing folder at startup appered. I supposed its a faulty HDD, so i bought new one. Firstly i tried to install Windows7/Vista - it was booting fine but when it comes to selecting drive nothing was there - just like with disconnected sata cable.. So, i borrow Mac OS 10.4.6, put in into dvd drive and.. everything i got is sound at beggining, then cd is booting and i got black screen with flashing "_".
I was trying to made a hardware test with "d" but all i got is OUCH : mshdlr loc zero not zero ! 00007007000000000h @:eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh".
Strange thing is- when i press option to select drive before boot - the MacOs Cd is named "Windows". This dvd was burned in Windows from .iso . Is it problem?
Sorry for my english:/
regards

It's possible. To reinstall the OS, you must use the System DVD that *originally came w/your computer.*
To make copies of System DVDs it better to use +dual layer+ DVDs & burn on a Mac. Verbatim DL is highly recommended in these forums.
You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
Since you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those -

Yours would appear to be an original 2008 vintage model, which unlike the more recent MBA systems did not have a recovery partition.
There is no downloadable source of the MacOS reinstall disk that I know of (none that are legal at any rate) but you should be able to get a copy of the DVD from Apple. The user guide for this model (http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/MacBook_Air_Users_Guide.pdf if you also do not have that) explains the procedure for MacOS reinstall using the original disk.

  • Mac mini - almost starts up then freeze - help

    hi
my macmini is run with a usb standard keyboard (like this http://www.compare-choose-buy.co.uk/product.php?p=11570246&c=88)...all of a sudden it wont power up completley...i can see the usual start up bar and it appears to get to the end of the start up 'blue' bar and then just stays there forever.....looked at a few of the posts here about pram reset (if thats the resolution)but cannot figure out which keys will replace the command key and option keys to make this happen....can you help ? does pram also lose your data on here as i use it loads for music and dont want to lose it all.........i guess the prognosis is okish as at least it powers up and screen registers and displays....

The fact the system gets as far as it does during startup is a fairly good sign - it means that basically the hardware is OK. However, the failure to get beyond the loading screen suggests that there is a problem with the installation of MacOS on the internal drive.
Resetting the PRAM will not, in itself, have caused any loss of data, but now is the time when inevitably the advice to ensure your data is backed up hits home and you wish you'd taken notice of it. Without a backup, there is a danger that any action you take at this point will cause loss of some, or all, data.
The first thing I would try is booting into safe mode by holding the shift key down during start up. Safe mode loads only the core of MacOS for troubleshooting purposes, and if it boots that way you know that MacOS is basically OK. Connecting an external drive of sufficient size would then permit you data to be rescued, and you can then attempt to run Disk Utility (in Applications>Utilities) to 'Verify Disk' - checking for errors in the directory structure.
Alternatively, if Safe mode doesn't work, insert the original install disk that was supplied with the system and boot to that by holding down the C key during startup. You can then run Disk Utility from there, and this time 'Repair Disk' after selecting the internal drive on the left. If there are errors reported on exit, it means data on the drive is damaged sufficiently that the system can't read it properly (hence the system won't fully boot) and can't fully repair the problem. A third-party utility such as Disk Warrior would then be needed, or the drive reformatted and MacOS reinstalled. Either way, it is imperative that you back your data up first since in the first instance it is very easily lost and in the second, a reformat completely wipes it.

  • Hard drive absent in disk utility - want to erase and reinstall MacOS

Hi there. Any help would be most gratefully received.
I have a Power Mac G5 Dual 2Ghz with 2GB RAM, one internal HDD (250GB serial ATA 7200rpm - the original one), two external HDDs and a Philips 170B display, running (or not) MacOS 10.39.
It was working fine yesterday but on startup this morning it hung for a while on the grey Apple logo and progress "clock" then froze on a blue screen.
I tried removing all cables except display and keyboard/mouse and restarted a few times but to no avail.
I tried entering safe mode but it wouldn't work. Upon subsequent attempts at startup it took me (instead of the blue screen) to the flashing question mark/finder folder screen.
I then booted from my install CD and tried to run Disk Utility to repair the disk. Disk Utility recognised the disk and allowed me to select it. But when I tried to verify it, it failed and told me to repair. When I tried to repair it told me "invalid b-tree node size".
I then tried running the Apple Hardware Test CD. It found no faults at all in the full test of the system.
All of my data is stored on my external HDDs so my next thought was to erase the internal HDD and reinstall my software. (I use the Mac solely for Video editing and the only applications I have installed - in addition to all the basics - are the Apple Production Suite.)
However, this time when I booted from the install CD, Disk Utility would not recognise the internal HDD. The only thing I had done since it had recognised it the last time was to run the Hardware tests. In addition, since running the hardware tests, the HDD started making a strange noise whenever the Mac was on - like clicking with almost beep-like access noises.
The last time I tried restarting and booting into Disk Utility, the clicking began again and then eventually stopped. But still no evidence of the drive in Disk Utility.
Soooooooooo. I don't need to save any data on the hard drive. I have all my software and OS discs. I just want to wipe the drive and start afresh (assuming this is the best course of action?). But I am unable to do so because of this new development in my attempts to fix the problem: the unrecognised hard drive (coupled with the strange noises).
If you have any ideas, please do get in touch. I'm pretty broke at the minute and I'm trying to find a solution without having to purchase a new drive. Obviously, if this is the only solution, then I'll have to bear that cost. But since it has recognised the disk just a few steps before, I'm hoping there's a way back.
    Yours in optimism

I am not sure about battery, I still use G4 MDD which is unplugged for months, was always off at night (UPS was off) and still works.
But I would always use both SATA drive bays, and I think you need to invest in one or two new drives.
For now, try disconnecting your drive and see if you can boot from external drive and CD/DVD.
Also see if you can get into Open Firmware.
Resetting PMU would also be worth while when you get in to disconnect your hard drive (I think 3 yrs is more than enough for any OEM drive, too).

  • Can't reinstall MacOS X Lion on a MacBookPro with Bootcamp installed

    Hello,
    I have a MacBook Pro 2010 15" with 2 systems installed :
    - MacOS X Lion
    - Bootcamp with Windows 7
MacOS X Lion does not work anymore and the screen goes to black after I have started the system. I wanted to reinstall and I used several methods :
    - Install Mavericks from Within the MacOS X system
    - Using the recovery partition to boot the computer and reinstall through a complete download of the install files (MacOS X Lion)
    - Installing MacOS X Lion booted with a USB stick
    - Installing MacOS X Mavericks booted with a USB stick
All the solutions failed with almost always the same message : the installation failed because it was not able to create a recovery partition...
When I press ALT at the computer boot, I can see three partitions :
    - MacOS X
    - Bootcamp
    - Recovery
I have tried reformating the MacOS X partition but it does not work, I have always the same message.
    Please help.
    Kind regards,
    Alan

MAC OSX should be mountain lion or above.

  • Reinstall MacOS 10.7 Lion on Macbook A1181 Problem

    Hello,
I have an urgent problem to be solved, if you can do it, pretty please. I have received as payment, an old Macbook A1181, mid 2007, with 3gb RAM in plus of its basic configuration. It camed with Lion 10.7 on it, but full of old files, settings, and with a user account of the old owner. This night, JUST before I will give it as a gift further to my girlfriend, I wanted to erase it and restore it back to its factory settings. I saw a few films on youtube on how to do it without disk. I have read on Apple forum the instruction and everything looked easy. I started, and now at the  Reinstall Mac OS X step, after verification, it ask me for the credentials of Apple account who bought the Lion Upgrade. I called at the guy who gaved me the notebook to ask him if can do something about it, or just give me the credentials for few seconds. And his answer was that the Lion I had on the notebook wasnt official, it was just tooked from the internet and he doesnt know nothing about what can I do now.
My problem now is I have a Macbook stucked in the Mac OS X Utilities screen, and I dont know what to do. I would like to buy the upgrade, but I dont know if it works if the notebook still thinks I have Lion, and I just want to reinstall it. Also I have pressed option(ALT)+command+ R during boot, and I dont see the screen where I could buy the upgrade. In the app store on others PC I see i can buy it, but it comes in 1-3 days even if i just buy it online and i need it in my account to show as bought.
What can I do in this moment? How do I do a roll-back at least at an older version of OS X ? A fast and good answer will be very thanked. I am worried, and in a hurry. Thank you.

You’ve run into the one problem with the newer Operating Systems (10.7, 8, 9). They are tied to the users Apple ID and password so that no one else can re-download them. The older Operating Systems (10.6, 10.5) came on a DVD and could be used by anyone. Just pop in the DVD and erase the drive and reinstall.
The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard After you’ve installed that then download the 10.6.8 combo updater to finish it off. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion which is a download only.
For 10.7 Lion you can get a redemption code to use in the App Store here. You can get it for $19.99. http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion

  • Can I backup and reinstall MacOS X to fixes problemes.

I want to reinstall Mac OS X to fix some of the problemes . Can I backup everything on external HD, reinstall OS (erase my HD) and restore all my systeme files, setting, and applications using time machine. If yes, do I have to be aware of something?
    Thank you,

Yes you can, but there's a good chance that reinstalling won't fix whatever problem(s) you are having and will just be a big waste of time. Describe in more detail what problem you are trying to fix.

  • Slow MBP: Help with EtreCheck and MacOS X reinstall

    Hi there,
I've already posted about my MacBook Pro which is really annoying me.
I know 2GB RAM is not enough, but I can't afford buying extensions and would like to cope with this laptop for another 6 months, then probably get a PC as many programs that I need for my studies are not working with Mac.
Anywho, I've been told that my EtreCheck report looks awful and I need to clean up my mac. My friend used to install a lot of unnecessary stuff on my laptop and I suppose I have a lot of leftovers.  Could you please help me with this? I am currently backing up my files with Time Machine. Once I finish, what should I do to completely reinstall and clean up my laptop?
Please help a woman in need!

  • Reinstall MacOS

Few hour ago, I get iBook G4 (second hand), so I want to "format" it, "reinstall" it.
    How to do this?

    sojic:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
All iBook G4 computers will support at least up to Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4.x) and all but the 800 MHz will support Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5.x). Your profile does not tell us what the processor speed of the iBook G4 is, so we cannot be more specific.
The OS cannot be downloaded, but must be installed from disk. Once you have it installed you can update within that OS by downloading from the net.
To install Panther your computer will need to meet the minimum system requirements for Panther. To install Tiger your computer will need to meet the minimum system requirements for Tiger. Here are the technical specifications for Leopard.
I suggest that you contact the person from whom you purchased the computer and ask for the install disks as they belong with the computer and can't be used on another computer. If you are unable to get it you will need to purchase the Full Retail Version of the OS of your choice.

  • Unable to reinstall MacOS - reboots during installation

    I've got a Late 2009 iMac 27".
It's been getting more and more unstable until its properly unusable.
Mostly kernal panics, but even things like Finder crashing every 5 seconds.
After reading lots of discussions, I thought it sounded like a broken hard disk.
I took it into an apple authorised repair shop. Their diagnostics showed a software fault rather than a hardware fault.
They suggested I re-install MacOS - something I did about 12 months ago and it did seem to make it more reliable.
In recovery mode, I first deleted the partition.
However during the re-install, it starts downloading Mountain Lion and after a while (variable, but approx 30 mins) it reboots and starts recovery mode again.
    Any clues?
    Help appreciated.

    Let's add the printer manually:
    1. Click "Start" button --> Printers and Faxes.
    2. Under Printer Tasks, click "Add Printer".
    3. Click "Next" button on the Add Printer Wizard window.
    4. Select "Local printer attached to this computer". Deselect "Automatically detect and install My Plug and play printer". Click "Next".
    5. Under Select a Printer Port option, select "Create a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP Port" and click "Next" button.
    6. In the "Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP printer port wizard" make sure that the printer is turned on and connected to same network that your computer is connected to. Click "Next" button.
    7. Under "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port" enter the printer's IP address. Click "Next" then click "Finish".
    8. Now, select HP from the list of manufacturers, select your printer from the list of Printer models and click 'Next' button.
    9. If you can't find your printer, you'll need to find the install CD and use the "Have Disk" option to select one of the hp*.ini files. Alternatively, you can select another HP printer model from the same type.
    10. Add the print spooler name and click "Next".
    11. Click "Next"
    12. Click "Next" and then "Finish"
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • After a Reinstall of MacOS Can't Get Songs from iPod to Reinstalled iTunes

After having to reinstall Mac OS, everything on my hard drive was erased. I was hoping that transferring my songs on my iPod to my now reinstalled iTunes would be easy, albeit a long process, but I've found that it's been impossible so far. If anyone knows if it is actually possible to transfer the songs that are still in my iPod to my computer that'd be great.
I've tried to transfer them, but it'll only let me transfer the songs that I've purchased through iTunes after I authorized my computer once again. Since I can't find all my old CDs and I don't want to go find them and burn them all over again, I was hoping somebody knew of an easier way to transfer the rest of the songs that I have on my iPod to my computer once again.
    Thanks.

Transfer is intended to be one-way from iTunes to iPod. You have a few options. You could use a third party app like iPodRip, Senuti or Yamipod to do the job. Or you could enable Disk Use on the iPod and use the hard drive space on it to copy the songs there then copy them to your computer.

  • Reinstalling MacOS from the original install disks

I have a late 2009 Mac mini which I want to sell, so trying to install the original OS (Snow Leopard) from the original install disks. When loading the disk and either trying the option key or the C key the disk simply runs for 10 secs then ejects itself.
I've tried other disks in the drive with no problems.
    Any ideas?
I've done this procedure several times over the years on other macs and had no problem, so fairly sure I'm doing it correctly!

Well it took 12 hours to free the space on the hard drive, but completed fine. But still I have the same problems, so borrowed a friend's superdrive, and, it worked, to a point! I know find running through the installation disc setup, when I get to the point where you select your hard drive to install to it the HD has a yellow triangle over it and it says you can't install to this drive!
I ran the repair function on the drive and it says all is OK.
Sorry about this but any further ideas? I'm on the verge of taking to a Apple repairer but would rather sort it myself it possible.
    Thanks for your help

I have reinstalled Mac OSX 10.6.3 and done the updates from there.
I have reinstalled ilife 11 from disk and done the updates.
I have deleted all the suggested files and then redone install and updates.
I have tried just reinstalling iphoto and doing updates.
Is there any way to get a replacement -  /Library/Frameworks/iLifeSlideshow.framework/Versions/A/iLifeSlideshow
    file with the right architecture?
