10.4.6 To install or not install???

I have read some scary things on this board in regard to going from 10.4.4 to 10.4.5 or 10.4.6. I am currently running 10.4.4 on a PPC and I want to upgrade to 10.4.6. I have read about issues with Adobe products and these upgrades. I am running Photoshop CS2 with Adobe Bridge. Should I go on ahead and upgrade?? And is it true that in order for me to go from 10.4.4 to 10.4.6 that I will need the 10.4.6 combo upgrade? Any input is much appreciated.
Mac Mini PPC Mac OS X (10.4.4) 1.5 Gig proc. with 1 Gig RAM

I have 10.4.6 installed on both my Mac Mini G4 and iBook G4.
Never had a problem with either one.
I always use the Combo updater. It's far more reliable than the "Delta" version.
The Delta version only upgrades files that have been changed since the immediately prior version. And, if your existing version has any problems, they will definitely raise-up and bite you during the install (or immediately after).
The Combo version replaces everything that has changed since 10.4.0. So, it over-writes a good portion of the files that the Delta version would leave alone.
The advantage there, is that a lot of files that may be troublesome are replaced automatically in the Combo install. So, you have a greater chance of success (basically fewer system files from your previous OS version are left alone)
As always, it's a good idea to have a backup of your hard drive before you make any major change.
But, I have never had a single OS update go bad on any of my systems since OS 8.1.
So, they are generally pretty safe.
The majority of problems are because of people's existing problems. Usually they have something slightly wrong in their system already. And, the problem just isn't causing any trouble. Then, when they upgrade, the problems jump up and bite them.
Oh, and we're not too far off from the 10.4.7 update being released. But, it's up to you if you want to install now or wait.
If you have a fast Internet connection, go ahead and update now and when the new one comes out.
If you are on a slow connection, then just wait for the 10.4.7 Combo update and save yourself downloading twice.
I have upgraded for the last two years on the day each update comes out. No problems yet.
And, like I mentioned above, I've never had a single update go bad.
As an additional precaution, I do repair my permissions both before and after a major update (using Disk Utility). And, I also reboot right before I install an update to make sure that there are no programs running (or hidden processes) that might cause problems.

Firefox29, on a new win7 computer which has never had ff installed, will not install the latest flash plugin from adobe.

I promise to refrain from venting my disgust :-) but when FF 9 blew up the entire web. I had all kinds of issues so I did things like Bill Gates taught us to do. I re-installed windows 7, brand new, formatted HD and all. The very first thing I did was open IE to download FF29 from the mozilla site and it installed. I went to pages I know have fits with flash on purpose, www.nydailynews.com, for instance and got the message that no flash was installed, do I want to install it? Well, yes, I have brand new FF on a brand new computer, so to ahead. Did the usual, installed Flash, shut down, and even rebooted the computer, and golly gee, the web pages tell me I have no flash installed. Its in IE, and of course chrome, and it appears in the installed program control panel, but I can't use flash with FF 29.
I wiped the hard drive and reinstalled win 7, then installed ff 28. Went to adobe and installed their latest flash version, and still no flash in any version of firefox. I also checked the option to never update, but when I rebooted an opend FF29, it miraculously turned into FF29, and of course still does not work with the flash plugin.
I think firefox has had a world of trouble with Adobe Flash for over a year and have hoped for a solution. Basically a browser that cannot run Flash media is totally useless. I wonder why this problem was no addressed and corrected, when instead all the the resources were put into raping my computer and forcing FF29 onto it?
I am not a cry baby, who wants to complain, but will you please fix this issue so I don't have to abandon my favorite browser.. I don't enjoy Chrome, and IE is just not an option for me.
Before you make any moreoverhauls on the UI, could you fix the problems with flash. I find it a little condescending to tell a 25 year user of computers to make sure " you have the latest versions" when in fact I have a brand new install of windows and the very latest from Adobe and Mozilla and they do no wok together, even when I down grade to FF 28, which as I told you, automatically upgrades to FF 29 each time I boot up.
Please help. IF installing the latest Adobe onto a brand new hard drive and install of windows 7 fails, what do you suggest, as the usual " version issue" cannot apply here.
FWIW, I have vista on my laptop with the same problems, the same reinstalls and the same guaranteed latest versions. Since the hd is formtted, there cannot be an residual FF dlls hanging around or in the registry.
I have always seen open source as the way to the future, since the first PC arrived, but its looking like a bad idea.
If you want to build a firefox that works, I will pay for it, so long as I can get help when things break. Browsers are huge in the web, so paying for reliable performance seems like a fair thing to do.
I am sorry, but I am frustrated at the lack of progress towards a solution and really do not wish to be told to see if I am using the latest versions. I have taken every step possible and gone all the way to a brand new machine and FF does not work with flash reliably.

adobe test page says it is installed. but I said, some pages I visit say I don't have it installed.
I use prefbar ( I delete it and reinstall to make sure its not an issue) usually because it lets me turn off flash and avoid the crashing and locking up but when I check the flash block on prefbar, it says " plugin is not loaded"
I posted from the machine that does not work, but it does not work on my Vista Laptop, or my daughter's computer either. In all cases, I wiped the drives and reinstalled the OS and went directly to Firefox for 29 and to adobe for their latest.
Flash IS installed on my machine... It works in IE, and Chrome, but firefox 29 does not install the flash plugin, even tho the installer says all is well
The reason I went totally clean is to make sure there was no process blocking it or if Java was creating the issue as well. The reality is, I started with a brand new computer, three times, and Flash will not load into Firefox 29 in any case
I have started clean many times now and backed up and installed ff 28. I had no problem with the flash plugin using ff28, . I would have stayed there, but when shut down ff 28 and opened it later, it "magically downgraded to version 29" and i do mean " downgraded -( even tho I had gone into options and said do not install updates.
I am grateful for your attention. I find that web browsers are very important anymore, an a non functional one makes the web a waste. I mentioned www.nydailynews.com and would really not want to make a long list of every page that demands a flash plugin, for they are legion that I don't have, mostly because when the page wants flash, FF locks up. Its will not even let me copy the URL to try and make a list, but the browser is totally locked up and I have to kill the process I get the message I have been getting for about a year that the shockwave plugin has stopped working. There is no shockwave on my computer.
I know it looks like I have two different problems as the plugin does not load, but for instance, when I got it worrking in FF28, it loaded but constantly crashed an locked up the browser with the shockwave message, even tho I never install shockwave any time

Mac OS X install disc not installing drivers in Windows 7

So I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate OEM 32 bit, and everything went (relatively) smoothly...
The problem is that now I'm at the desktop and when I insert the Mac OS X install disc, I am not able to install drivers. Instead, I am prompted to either "remote install Mac OS X" on my MacBook Air or install DVD and CD Sharing on my MacBook Air. I don't own a MacBook Air nor have I ever used either the Windows 7 install DVD or the Mac OS X install DVD on a MacBook Air. What's going on, and how else can I install the proper drivers? Also, please note that I used the Mac OS X install disc to install drivers for Windows XP previously. Long story short, that installation expired (lost my CD key) so I had to start over with Windows 7. I know the drivers are there, why aren't they working?

Sorry to state the obvious first, is it a Snow Leopard DVD?
You can always browse the DVD to the correct folder for the drivers.

Netweaver 7.3 Install + ADS = Not Installed?

Hello everyone....
Just thought I would see if anyone has come across this issue.
We just did a Java only install of Netweaver 7.3, selected ADS as a usage type during install (or I think it gets selected by default). Now post install, when we access via http://<hostname>:54000/sld/fun it is stating that Adobe Document Services are "not installed".
I haven't found any other specific documents on a standalone install, or what we may have missed during this install/configuration.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Goto --> http://<hostname>:5<nr>00/monitoring/SystemInfo location and check under software componets ADSSAP is existed or not. If it is existed then ADS is installed as default.
If you want to test the ADS fucntionality need to configure few steps in VA if its NW7.3 then NWA

CS3 install will not install Acrobat 8 in windows 8.1 (iMac OS X running parallels 10)

I've been merrily and happily running CS3 in XP on a windows virtual machine using parallels 10 on my iMac, until XP gave up the ghost. I deleted the VM and built a new one with windows 8.1 installed. When I run CS3 install, the install fails to install Acrobat simply citing an installation error in the install window (no further detail provided). I am able to install Acrobat by delving into the CD sub-folders and running the setup application, but I end up with an instance of Acrobat that does not recognise my CS3 serial number......
Any suggestions

um, how do i do that? I can only find a compatibility option which lists currently installed applications to make them work better, not an option to make windows 8.1 into xp compatibility mode to actually do an install?

JRE 1.4 Silent Install does not install

For testing purposes I downloaded the JRE installer (15+ MB) onto the Windows PC I wanted to test out the silent install on. I'm referencing the notes posted here: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/silent.html
At the MS-DOS prompt I type the following command and nothing happens. I don't get any errors or anything and nothing seems to be running in the background. It just executes the command and returns to a blinking cursor.
From this directory on my computer c:\Program Files\CF EMS\ I execute the following:
j2re-1_4_2_08-windows-i586-p.exe /s /v "/qn ADDLOCAL=ALL IEEXPLORER=1 INSTALLDIR=c:\jre1.4 /L jresetup.log"
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Nothing ever gets installed.
NOTE: If I double-click on the .exe installer, it runs the GUI installer and completes successfully so I know the executable works.

Figured it out for those of you that run into this issue... I needed to read the documentation a little more carefully...
I originally had the following command j2re-1_4_2_08-windows-i586-p.exe /s /v "/qn ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 INSTALLDIR=c:\jre1.4 /L jresetup.log"
I am using the offline installer. If you read the NOTES section in http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/silent.html you'll see in #3 it states that there should be no space between the /v and the "/qn in the command if you are using the Windows Offline Installation.
So the correct command is:
j2re-1_4_2_08-windows-i586-p.exe /s /v"/qn ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 INSTALLDIR=c:\jre1.4 /L jresetup.log"

Install or not install - exchange 2010 update rollup 4 sp3

We have Exchange2010 SP3 with update rollup 2.
Users with IE11 are having problems with OWA opening only in light mode. I have read on the internet that CU 4 solves this problem but on the other hand this CU makes additional problems with outlook 2007 clients.
Some of the comments of this issues from other companies are: In Outlook 2007 if you choose to change the current view with Arrange By 'Categories' the following is noticed: - Items that you set unread or read are not changed until you refresh the view
- If you open an unread email by doubleclicking, it's status stays unread until you refresh the view. - New mail items are not automatically seen until refresh. This is a very annoying issue, and our servicedesk already received a lot of calls for this issue
Is there any workaround to fix IE11 OWA light mode and not corrupt Outlook 2007 user clients?

It happens as MSIE token is removed from the user-agent string in IE11. This made the Exchange team provide an update on the Exchange side to fix this issue. The workaround is to use Compatibility Mode in IE11 for OWA. As for the fixes:
2003: Use workaround, no fix will be released
2007: Use workaround until a fix is released, currently a fix is tentatively planned for release in E2007 SP3 RU12
2010: Install
E2010 SP3 RU3 or use workaround
2013: Install
E2013 CU3 or use workaround
O365: Issue is already fixed, no action is required

Pro Applications Update 2010-02 installed, but not installed.

I downloaded and installed the latest software update and it said it was successfully installed, but when I look at the applications, they are not updated (e.g. Compressor is version 3.5.2 when it should be 3.5.3). I have opened the applications just to check for the new features, but they are not there.
Is there something I'm not doing? Would reinstalling the apps do anything?

I was having the same problem on two of my older systems. It seemed like every week (automatically) or anytime I manually ran software update, it would recommend "Pro Applications Update 2008-05 1.0 3.1 MB". This seem to be a looping problem and it continued even after applying the update. I replaced one of my computers and being a new computer I was not having any problems. Later I upgraded my hard drive and chose "Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Case Sensitive" as the format for my new drive. About a week later the problem started happening on my new computer with a new drive. I also noticed some applications that I migrated over were acting strange. So I re-formatted my drive "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" and the problem has seemed to have gone away. I think some applications and utilities including "software update" (in some instances) may not like a case sensitive file system. Also note that Apple ships their computers Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and I wonder how many companies including Apple beta test both "Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Case Sensitive" and "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". Any application that writes to a intermediate file on the filesystem or relies on reading and writing to files on the file system could potentially be affected if it were developed on a non case sensitive systems and later deployed on a system that was case sensitive.

Help broke my install disk not installing at all

So I bought a Zen extra 30gig today and broke the install **bleep**. I cannot get any drivers to work for this at all. I have tried: JBDrvNWHQL__20_04; JBDrvWHQL__20_04c; JBDrv__2_0a; and the update JB3_PCWDRV_US__23_00 and can not get it to work. I deice manaer it tells me that the device was not properly installed. I go to manually update the driver from the jukebox 3 driver folder in c:\program files\creative and it wont work. Please someone help me I want to get this working.

if you go to the nomadworld.com download page. you should be able to download the nomad explorer. And the Zen Xtra Drivers. That should work.
If not. if you have Windows Media Player 9 or 0. you can download a driver located at www.nomadness.net - Check that site out. lots of stuff for your nomad.

KB2565063 installed and not installed, errors 80070643 800B010B

This is weird even by MS standards. I have several servers (but not all) on which KB2565063, C++ Redistributable SP1 fails, but in Control Panel/Programs it says it installed with version 10.0.40219, which is SP1.
In Event Viewer you find error 80070643 (a generic failure) and in Windows Update/View Update History you find failed with error 800B010B (a generic trust failure). I've tried several things, including uninstall/reinstall and repair but they don't work.
If you manually try to install the patch it'll ask you if you want to repair, which means it thinks it's installed. So why on earth does Windows Update and Software Center think it failed?

The return code from the update is 80070643. So SCCM thinks it is failed. I suggest you try uninstalling the update and try installing it manually, then observe the log file to determine how the installation goes.

I have installed Oracle 9i in my server with Windows 2003 Server, but I need run some reports (.rdf files) in the browser, the reports are working fine, but my questions are:
I need install DS and AS(type J2EE and Web Cache)? or
I just need install AS, but what install type I can use?
Only is necessary run the report in the browser and display pdf document. I hope somebody can help me please.

Quick Time requires a QuickTime.msi file to install? Not installing?

Ok, I uninstalled Quick Time, because i h8 it, but now iTunes says it requires quick time. so i go to the apple website, get the installer and when i go to install it it gives me a message about quicktime.msi in my appdata\local\temp... folder, and I cant install quicktime without quicktime. Help? Plz... I have $130 on my itunes and I want to buy music.
P.S. I have also tried to uninstall itunes too, and then install them both again, but it still gives me the message "Quick time could not be installled..." or sumtin' like that! HELP?

If you're getting a missing QuickTime.msi message, I'd try the following procedure.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:

Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and select "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Reboot the PC and try another QuickTime install. Does it go through any better this time?

Communications Suite 5 install does not install amconsole web application

I'm following the instructions[1] to install Communications Suite 5, with the primary objective of evaluating the instant messaging support (but also wanting to look at access manager, so this made a nice combination). However, after the initial installation is completed, I'm trying the step "Verify that you can log in to the Access Manager console as amadmin". Unfortunately, it appears that the install process did not actually deploy the "amconsole" webapp (or any other webapp, for that matter), to the web server instance that was created, so I just get a 404 when trying "http://myhost.mydomain/amconsole". Any ideas?

Thanks Shane ... I opted for the "complete reinstall" approach, but paid more attention to the responses in the logs. In the installation summary, I see the following:

Indeed, there is no "ldapsearch" binary at the specified location. In fact, the only file in the /opt/SUNWdsee/dsee6/bin directory is "ldif", which seemed a little odd.
I'm going to try looking at the "configure later" stuff next, but would appreciate any further thoughts you might have on why my install is failing.

Firefox has becomes unresponsive and slow after I tried to install addons (not installed)?

I recently format my computer and reinstall the windows 7, since this was the only solution that I know to fix the problem with Firefox (I previously had this problem too). I download the latest version of firefox 33.0.2 and install it . This version was super fast. But becomes unresponsive and slow, when I tried to install the add-ons. I visited the official website of firefox and search for the addons, when I tried to install some addons, Firefox crashed. From then on, it has becomes quite slow and can't restore previous sessions. Even to type my email address, It takes more than 5 minutes and becomes unresponsive frequently (after I typed each letter).
I want to know whether this is due to some viruses, or this version of firefox is not "stable"
