10.4.6 update on imac g5
Update via software update on monday, install and double reboot all ok, only bug i've noticed is that on the progress bar when using "connect to server". Once you have seleced the server you want to connect to, it shows a progress bar that usually the image for a mounted share to the left, i just have blank space. connecting to the servers and windows shares works fine.
The image didn't disapear when i updated my ibook?
any ideas?

ail38n, I don't know about your G5, but my G3 iMac sleep indicator light (power switch) intensity has always gone alternatively from brightest to dimmest like a heart beating. Fortunately I don't sleep in the same room as the iMac or it might bother me as well. The only thing I know is that you can send feedback to Apple. I doubt, though, that this is bothersome to the majority of iMac users so it might not be changed in the future.

iPod 4,1 will not update to iOS 7. I updated my iMac to 10.9.1 (maverick). Latest Numbers version on iMac is not compatible with Numbers on iPod. Ideas? Can I go back a version with Numbers? I downloaded old version of Numbers 2.0.1 from DVD but with both versions the 2.0.1 will not open. So both versions are present but only the new version functions. The general assumption is that Apple no longer has OS 10.5 install disks. However, some people in the US have been able to get a copy by phoning the US Store at 1-800-MY-APPLE and asking for an operating system specialist, than asking for OS 10.5 install disks. Not a "sure thing" and the last ASC report of someone doing this that I've see was about 16 month ago. Still, it costs nothing to hear the word, "no," but you might get lucky.
Otherwise you are thrown into a miasma of confusing third-party offerings. Legitimate copies of old Mac OS software, especially 10.4 and 10.5 are in high demand and, as such, attract the scammers and the scalpers. I have seen legit copies of 10.5 offered for more than the market value of a used G5 iMac. Not worth it.
Try auction sites or Amazom but remember there are NO SAFE, LEGAL downloads of any Mac OS software. Some people will sell you a download license that doesn't exist. Another resource is a Mac Users group. Find one in your ara with this link:

Gray disks from another Mac model will likely not work, and a gray disk that shipped with an intel Mac definitely won't. A full retail install Leopard 10.5 disk looks like this: -
My iPhone 4s will not connect with my home WiFi network. I have ios6 on my iPhone. The connection was working perfectly before I updated my IMac and my MacBook Pro to ios 10.8.2. I have had ios6 since I purchased the phone a couple of months ago. It searches for a network and finds them, but when it asks for my password, it will not accept the password. Have never had this happen before.

Some mailbox names can appear dimmed if you don’t have permission to access them, such as “public” mailboxes on a server, or if the mail server is unavailable.

I have a free agent desk 500 GB external hard drive. Since updating my iMac OS to Mountain Lion it no longer backs up through Time Maching like it did in the past. Now, after completing its work it says, "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder." I cannot find any sites that help me fix this. Do I need to purchase a new external hard drive?

Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Reinstalling Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -

You have already seen that you cannot load the new iTunes into your 10.5.8, so as Neil says, you need Snow Leopard (current cost £14). And you'll probably need to update the disc you buy via the combo update, though that is free.
As far as the new iTunes is concerned, there's been a certain amount of grumbling so you may want to study the forums before you update. The main problem has been with album artwork which does not transfer easily. -

Some online resellers still have Snow Leopard in stock, but their prices are ridiculously high (Amazon.com is one). So your best bet is to call Apple; they will sell it for about $20 US as long as they still have stock.

I updated my iMac to 10.7.3 and about an hour later the screen began to flicker with a gray line on the upper side, and it also flicker green and red small pixel lines all over the screen, mainly green. The computer froze with these pixels, so I shut it off and restarted it, and there were this green lines everywere. So I turned it off, and the next day I turned it on and it began to work just fine, but suddenly the same thing happened again, and when I restart the computer again there are these green and some red pixels everywere.
I've read 10.7.3 is giving people many problems, but I never saw that it gave one like this. How can I fix this, or what will Apple do to fix this problem they caused me with their update.

You are running into a problem that many users of the 24-inch, early 2009 iMac 9,1's have encountered (including me). The Sudden Shutdown Syndrome is the scourge of many iMacs and Mac Book Pros.
Unfortunately, I believe that the only solution is for Apple/nVidia to revisit their geForce Tesla drivers and figure out if the power management is correct.
In your case, I'd try this:
1) Boot up your computer in safe mode and log into your user account.
2) In the Finder menu, select Go > Go to Folder...
3) Type: " ~/Library/Caches" (without quotes) into the box and press return. You will be taken to the Caches folder.
4) Select all the files in the folder and move to the trash (do not trash the folder itself). At this point, just leave them in the trash...don't erase them.
5) Go back to the Finder menu, select Go > Go to Folder...
6) Type: "/Library/Caches" (without quotes) into the box and press return.
7) Do the same thing you did in 4) This time, though, you will be asked for an administrator's password.
8) Restart your computer in normal mode and attempt login.
9) If you can log to the desktop, you may delete your trash.
Hopefully this will get you into your account. If it doesn't, you may have to do a clean install of Yosemite, go back to Mavericks, or wait for an update.

I updated my iMac to Mountain Lion. All the files were deleted. I have Time Machine backups. When I restart the mac pressing Command R to restore it from the backup it shows the previous OS X (Leopard) beside the date of the backup that I want to select. Will it go back to Leopard if I restore it from the backup?
No, it won't revert to the prior OS X but you you may have third party apps installed that were compatible with Lion that may not be compatible with Mountain Lion.

Tried to buy Aperture 3 and got an error message Aperture can’t be installed on “Macintosh HD” because Mac OS X version 10.7.2 or later is required. You can update Mac OS X using Software Update. Problem is, I had already updated my IMac to Lion OS
iPhoto 9.3 requires OS X 10.7.4 now. You can use your actual version of iPhoto or upgrade to Lion (or wait to Mountain Lion)
