10.4.6 update permissions problems

Anyone know how to solve the permissions problems from the 10.4.6 update. For some reason after doing the update we can read only from our servers and they have a little lock icon next to them!!
after searching the net a bit i know other people are having the same problems but cannot find a cure,
anyone know???? help help
cheers

Same problem here.... Luckily--and it was pure dumb luck on my part--I only updated two computers before catching this problem.
I'm curious if you've found any resolution to the problem? If so, could you post it here? If not, I'll post anything I manage to find....

  • After latest iPhoto update - Permissions Problem

I updates iPhoto on my iMac, after updating my iPhones and iPad to IOS 6. iPhoto than prompted me that my library on the iMac needed to be upgraded. After attempting to upgrade the library I rec'd a message that the library could not be upgraded due to a permissions problem and I needed to mix the permissions first. Ok, how do I fix the permissions in iPhoto?
Also, now when I attempt to sync my iPad or iPhones I receive an message, "The iphone/iPad cannot be synced. An unknown error has occurred - 1140", - iTunes is unable to finish the sync. I believe this is related to iPhoto since iPhoto is not even being accessed during the sync.
Can anyone please help? Since the upgrade to IOS 6 and the update od iPhoto I am unable to sync iPhones or iPad.
    Thanks,
    Sal

I just started having the same problem. Unfortunately the suggested solution didn't help. I had to uncheck the "Sync Photos from iPhoto" option to get the sync to complete successfully. Looking more closely at the sync options, I realized that they had defaulted back to "sync all photos, events, etc" - which I definitely did not want. (Must have happened when I upgraded iTunes and upgraded to iOS 6.) But - and this was the real surprise - the option to sync only "selected albums etc" is greyed out. I can't select it, whether the overall sync checkbox is checked or not.

  • Software Update permissions problem

Ok, I'm trying to do the latest software update, but it's telling me:
The update... could not be verified and expanded correctly.
Make sure you have permission to write to /tmp/501/TemporaryItems/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate, then try again.
I've done all the things listed on this page:
    http://www.macosx.com/content/faq.php/q12571/Permissions-Error.html
with the exception of booting from the install disk and repairing the disk.
    Here's what the console says:
2006-03-06 20:39:17.930 Software Update[416] Error verifying file with signature /tmp/SoftwareUpdate.dS17xs/signature
2006-03-06 20:39:17.934 Software Update[416] session:itemDidFail:SecUpd2006-001Pan-1.0 (Make sure you have permission to write to /tmp/501/TemporaryItems/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate, then try again.)
Any ideas short of repairing the disk with the install cd? I have them packed away and I'd have to dig them out, that's why I haven't already.
Could it be a corrupted download of the update?
    Powerbook 1Ghz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The message "Error verifying file with signature" implies (to the best of my knowledge) that the download is corrupted. However, I am not totally convinced that that is really the problem. This message has shown up at different times for other users and it has never been very clear what the problem is. (There might be multiple problems which can give this message.) Anyway, repairing your disk would be a good thing to try. Another possibility would be to go directly to Apple's software download site and get the Security Update. See if that installs. If not, can you get the download on another computer, preferably with a different internet connection? If so, copy the .dmg file onto a flash drive or a disk and then transfer to the computer with the problem. See if you can install that .dmg file.
If none of these works, post back - there are more things to try.

  • I am trying to back up my new iPhone after downloading/updating iTunes with iCloud. I get this message: The required file was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permiss

I am trying to back up my new iPhone after downloading/updating iTunes with iCloud. I get this message: The required file was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permiss
how do I find the file and replace it or install it?

I'll reload it tonight when I get home...basically, I bought a new iPhone and downloaded some new medical apps. also had to download an update for iTunes into my mac laptop so I could access iCloud (which was NOT on my prior iTunes software)
When I synched my new iPhone with the newly downloaded iTunes, I registered my iphone and tried to "back it up" to iCloud and the message indicating that "the required file was not found or has a permissions error...." popped up.
How do I correct the permissions error, or...am I able to do this somewhere? Or...how do I find the file that is missing?

  • 10.4.11 combo update install problem

Has anyone else had trouble installing the combo update from 10.4 to 10.4.11?? Mine almost finishes and says it encounters an unknown error and cannot finish the install. Says it moves the update to trash and says try again from the finder...
    HELP!!

    Updating
Certain steps appear to minimize the risk of an update producing problems.
Number one is to make sure you have a bootable clone backup of your computer in case you do need to back out of it again. This is the only guaranteed way of not having to worry about the results of an update.
Some like to boot from their installer discs or an external backup and verify (and if necessary repair) their internal drives as well as drive permissions. This is done with Disk Utility. You can verify a drive while booted from the same drive but sometimes this produces spurious errors. Repairing a drive (if necessary) has to be done while booted from another disk.

You can also go to the step of booting into safe mode to do the install.

[Safe Boot takes longer than normal startup|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107394]
I like to download the update onto my computer and install it from there rather than let Software Update do it. I know a few people who had problems with doing the update via software updater found a manual install to work.
    Repair permissions again afterward.
It helps to only install one update at a time and to run the computer for a while to make sure it is behaving well.
The more cautious even like to unplug third party peripherals (see [comment by BDaqua|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9040746#9040746]).
Almost all of the above steps (except backup) have been questioned (e.g., [Permissons repair|http://www.macworld.com/article/52220-3/2006/08/repairpermissions.html] as to necessity. Probably many people have done successful updates without doing them. I say they can't hurt, they can very likely do good (especially if your computer isn't regularly maintained), so why not do them to be safe?

  • HT2963 How can I fix permissions problems now that I have changed permission on my HD and have error code -8076, locked disk or ....?

iMac v10.7.4. Error message says disk is locked. Permissions set for read/write admin (me). Can't open iTunes, Mail, photoshop, adobe bridge [you do not have permission!]. Fonts in Word are unexpected, not cambria. Used Disk utility to repair permissions (ran it twice, once before reinstalling photoshop from DVD; once today). Situation worsening.

Permissions problems occurred after I downloaded Lion update on 6092012. I believe the  problem originates with  Lion (see the 19 pages of posted problems in the community). I have now talked with Apple Support rep and an Apple Genius. Have reinstalled Lion from the HD Recovery disk. I see some improvement but also at least one  new problem: TimeMachine apparently has lost all backups, don't know how or why. Will have to take machine to a mac specialist or wait for Mountain Lion to arrive. Lion is a bad cat.

  • Execute permissions problem

user created a stored procedure in one database and got "unable to execute stored procedure from database name blah blah", copied the stored procedure to another database and user could then execute it. User has exactly the same mapping in
both databases (i.e. db_datareader, db_datawriter, db_ddladmin) and is only in the server public role. why does he get the execute permissions problem on the firdt database? I have created a new user myself with the same mapping and get the same
    problem.
IGNORE THIS>> I can see what the problem is now, the EXECUTE effective permission is missing from the first database - anybody know how to create an effective permission?
Update on the above following your much appreciated comments:-
    1. The full error message (with any sensitive detail masked out) is:-
Msg 229, Level 14, State 5, Procedure xxxxxxxx, Line 1The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'xxxxxxxxx', database 'xxxxxxxxx', schema 'dbo'.
    2. The problem is one database automatically gives execute permission when a login is mapped to it (even with just the db_datareader role selected) but the other doesn't. To see the permissions I refer to, right click database select
properties/permissions select the user and look at effective permissions, user has connect, execute and select (explicit permissions are connect only). The same login mapped to the other database has connect and select permissions only.
I haven't given any explicit permissions to the login mapped to the first or second database so why does the first have the explicit execute permission granted atomatically and the second not?
Even when I map the logins to the db_datawriter and db_ddladmin as well I still don't get effective execute permission on the second database. I know I can grant explicit permissions at schema or database level but do I don't have to do that
on the first database. There are no specific permissions on the schemas (i.e. db_datareader/writer/ddladmin or dbo) to public role or users

user created a stored procedure in one database and got "unable to execute stored procedure from database name blah blah",
It might be your opinion that error messages are only blah blah, and it is not worth time reading them. However, there is often useful information in error messages, and next time you have a question, please include any error message in full. Even if the
message is nonsense to you, it may not be to us.
I can see what the problem is now, the EXECUTE effective permission is missing from the first database - anybody know how to create an effective permission?
When you create a procedure in a schema, you don't become owner of the procedure, but the schema owner becomes owner of the procedure. And with no further rights, the creator can't execute. This can be resolved by granting the user EXECUTE permission
on schema level or database level:
GRANT EXECUTE ON SCHEMA::dbo TO developers  -- schema-level
GRANT EXECUTE TO developers                 -- database-level
As the example hints, you should grant to a role rather than an individual.

  • DPM 2012 Failed to update permissions used in end-user recovery

    Hello everyone,
I'm going to try the clearest way possible to describe the problem.
Our test server is Windows Server 2012 with DPM 2012 SP1 CU2 (BKP-SRV01) with a Remote SQL server 2012 (PBASC)
I protected a share folder on a DC on Windows Server 2008 R2 (PAD)
When I activate End-User Recovery I get a warning in the monitor tab that say this
Failed to update permissions used for end-user recovery on pad. Permissions update failed for the following reason: (ID 3123)
DPM is unable to enumerate contents in pad_PartageTest on the protected computer BKP-SRV01. Recycle Bin, System Volume Information folder, non-NTFS volumes, DFS links, CDs, Quorum Disk (for cluster) and other removable media cannot be protected. (ID 38 Details:
the end user recovery is working, but i do not know if it affect other things. I also get that message when i try to browse on the DPM server when creating a protection group
When I go see the DPM Server / File and Storage Services / Shares on Server Manager i get  "Failed to retrieve folder permission" in the properties of the Protected server share.
I tried to search for almost 2 days without finding anything about that particular issue.
Is there a way (clean way) to fix the issue?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Comes up for servers where a protection group related to it errors out (recovery point failure usually).

  • Disk Utility and repair permissions problem after upgrade 10.5.1

*Problem with Disk Utility* - +repair permissions don't work anymore+
After upgrading to OS X 10.5.1 tried to correct permissions with Disk utility. But I'm not able to repair permissions, because I get this message every time "fault: The underlying task reported a fault at concluding." and permissions repair stops. Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone have any idea how to get this working again?

Will try installing OS X 10.5.1 again from the downkoad that you recommended. Won't be able to do this untill after the New Year but I'll let you know if this helped. I had another problem after he 10.5.1 upgrade and that was that the Security update 2007-009 also refused to install. Could this be related too the problems with Disk utility and the permissions problems.

    Mark.

I am using DPM 2012 R2, what finally worked to me to resolve my problem with EUR was to:
    In DPM I disabled EUR
In Computer Management delete all DPM Shares (\\?\c:\Program Files\...)
Using ADSI edit go to CN=MS-ShareMapConfiguration,CN=System,DC=X,DC=Y (Replace X & Y for your domain)
Delete all of the mappings within the container
    In DPM enable EUR
In DPM on a protection group I created a new recovery point and selected “Only synchronize (available only for file data)”

  • Weird Permissions Problem

I'm running the latest version of Leopard (10.5.5). Two days ago, I downloaded the latest update to MS Office 2008 (12.1.3). I have 12.1.2 installed. Upon downloading I tried to install the update. About 5 steps into the update, the installer asked me where to install the update. At that point, it identified all of my drives with a red exclamation point, making no choices possible. Since I had just installed other updates on my startup drive, the red exclamation point made no sense to me. So, I rebooted. Same problem. I repaired permissions. Same problem. I downloaded another copy of the update from a different server. Same problem. I inspected the drive permissions as well as the permissions on the Office 2008 folder. No problems identified. I ran TechTool Pro and found no problems.
At this point, I am unable to install the update on one machine - a Mac Pro quad core 2.66 machine with 4 physical hard drives plus two attached firewire drives. All my programs are installed on the startup drive - a Seagate 1 TB, 7200 RPM drive. I've succeeded in updating MS Office on all my other machines. Something is odd about the Mac Pro, but I'll be darned if I can figure out what it is. Hardware problem? Software problem? permissions problem? You guess because I don't have a clue.
I have been able to continue to update software without a hitch, except for the MS Office patch.
Any thoughts? This doesn't seem to be a Microsoft problem as my other experiences demostrate. I'm open to suggestions for a possible fix or a way to fool the installer.
    Thanks for your help.

In the end, I solved the problem with a very large hammer. Because I keep extensive backups, I rebooted into a backup, blew away the startup drive completely, deleted the install of Office 2008, and then restored the startup drive from the backup. Before doing that, I used Disk Utility and Disk Warrior to comb the surface of the startup drive for any defects. None found. That done, the restoration permitted me to reinstall Office 2008, update with SP1 and then update using 12.1.3. In the end, all the permissions are exactly the same as they were beforehand. I have no idea what the problem was, but this is another lesson in why we keep backups around. SuperDuper! made this problem trivial, but time consuming. I now know that my backups are solid and that my startup drive is fresh. I had plenty of better things to do with my time, but I'll have another time to fix those messes.
Thanks for all attempts at help. This just turned out to be "one of those" kinds of problems that have no logical or rational explanations and for which the only solution is the big hammer.

I have ITunes Media on a Pegasus R6 unit since it is large and my Macs have SSD drives which are firstly not large enough & secondly I prefer to keep most important things externally. It works fine !
But when I run Disk Utility Verifying Permissions on the SSD I get a huge amount of permissions problems they dont seem to effect the performance but there must be over 100 problems I can run Repair Permissions and although it claims to have sorted them if I VERIFY THE PERMISSIONS IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE PROBLEMS ARE STILL THERE ! I have re structured iTunes since it had a Media folder within the Media folder the problems still show.
I did not have this problem with OSX 10.8 the system seems unaffected by the permission problems but it is odd that in spite of repairing Permissions the problem continues .
I should add there does not appear to be any problems running iTunes I am a little ****** at having sent quite a lot of time remioving all the media from the disk I use for iTunes copying it to another disk and then starting afresh which also meant creating all my playlists again.
Here is a screen shot of the problems showing after Verifying permissions this is after running Repair Permissions .
I hazzard a guess that this is a Mavericks fault and is very minor but irritating.
Is there a solution I can do or will a future Mavericks update take care of this.

Yes pleAse do move it over the permissions verification shows ACLs language store settings etc none of which actually effect the performance I run disk utility either after software updates or before a weekly shutdown and it shows these faults if my Pegasus unit is attached and since I use it for photos time machine back ups etc it is connected all the time I have verified the Pegasus disks and they are fine although obviously I can not verify permissions on any of these disks .

  • My iMac 8.1 was slowing down and had permissions problems. I backed everything up, and then re-installed. Now all I get is a black screen. Power+D gives me a hardware error message: HDD-1336. Help!

My iMac 8.1 (10.6.8 ) was slowing down and had recurrent permissions problems, mostly with Java. I backed everything up, and then re-installed from time machine. Now all I get is a black screen which says I need to reboot. Power+D gives me a hardware error message: 4 MOT/1/40000003: HDD-1336 or HDD-1327. When I reboot from the OSX CD and start disc utilities everything checks out OK. When I reload 10.5.2 from the OSX CD everything seems to work OK and no more permissions problems. But then I loose all my email and safari stuff. Anyone have any ideas short of going back to my old PC?

    Hi
Thanks for the help. No point in fooling around with it any more. Will I be able to use it as a monitor if I get a mimi mac?
    Cheers. Don
No unfortunatley it's too old, you are referring to Target Display Mode which became avialble in 2009, your 2008 needs to have the HD replaced. I'd still do that if everything else is OK or you can simply buy a new MM and display or even a new iMac  or an Apple refurbished iMac to save money.
