10.4.7 and Palm Hot Sync

Perhaps it is coincidence but when I updated to 10.4.7 via Software Updater, my Palm Hot Sync stopped working. Says it cannot establish communications link between Palm Zire 71 and Mac. Anyone else seen this? Any fix?

I have the exact same problem.
Gee, do I hate this!
I used to be an "early adopter", but it was simply taking more and more time resolving strange (/somebody else's QA) issues, and so I gave up on this behaviour.
Nowadays, I wait for a while and only then install new software.
However, because of all kind of security issues, you have to install your OS updates quickly and there you have it!
Please Apple develop a Palm-like device quickly (and include a phone!) so that I am sure the combination of "stuff" I have is covered by your QA tests!
I'm willing to pay for it!
Though the Palm is still a great device, the software integration with the Mac is a problem that's getting worse year after year.

I have been using myEbay purchased Tungsten T5 mostly the calendar function, memos, contacts, etc. However, I would like to be able to hot sync it to my Mac G5 power mac computer with OS X.5.8, both to upload and download between both devices and use all of their joint capabilities. • Palm Hot Sync with Operating System Windows 7

Ever since I started using Windows 7 on my laptop I am not able to sync. I am using  version 5.4 on my TREO755P , my hotsync on laptop is version 6.1
Post relates to: Treo 755p (Verizon)

Hello rhackett and welcome to the Palm forums.
If you are using a 64-bit edition of Windows 7 you will be unable to perform a HotSync using the provided 32-bit USB driver from the Treo software CD.  You will need to perform a HotSync over Bluetooth.  For more details, check out this thread.

  • Bluetooth and Palm kinda syncing

This is weird. I'm using a Palm T3 and the DLink bluetooth dongle. I can sync applications, but not addresses and the calendar. All the right stuff is reported during the sync, but the address book and calendar are never updated on my computer.
BTW, this is a brand new install of the Palm Software.

I've done some narrowing down on this issue and it appears as though Apple takes over the calendar and address book conduits from the Palm desktop software. The Palm Address Book and Calendar Conduits are dumped into a directory called something like Disabled Conduits. The other conduits work as advertised, so it looks as though iSync is the culprit. Not much to do about this unless Apple can explain it.

  • Hot sync Palm m500

I have a couple of old, but ever so useful, Palm m500/m505  PDAs,  which I could hot-sync with my old PC running on Windows XP.  Now I have up-graded to PC with Windows 7 Home Version - 32 bit and am at my wit's end trying to hot sync my PDA data on to my PC Palm Desktop.
As I am of the older generation, (a senior citizen), could an expert give me step-by-step instructions on how to resolve my problem.  My Palm m500 PDA has too many contacts to manually transfer.
Also can I convert PDA contacts to Outlook Address Book and then hot-sync with Palm m500 series PDA ?
Waiting anxiously for help and guidance ..........

  • Problem Hot Syncing my Palm 105 under OS X 10.4.4

I get the message on the M105: "Your handheld computer & the desktop could not be established ..."
I am connecting the M105 via a USB/Serial cable, which works when I connect it to the USB port on my PC laptop. I have had it connected to the IMAC at start up.
I have installed Palm OS 4.2.1. I decided to try iSync and enabled Isync for the palm. ISync recognized the palm and told me to press the hot sync button on the M105. Before Isync completed, the M105 gave the "non-connection" message above. Isync help info. suggests syncing with Palm Hot Sync manager before using Isync. However, I was unable to do that -- I kept getting the same message on the M105. The Isync log indicates that it connected, but the M105 sure didn't think so, and my address/date info is not in the Palm desktop.
The Missing Sync tool does not list the M105 as being supported.
    What to do?

Your assumption is correct -- that's what I'm trying
to do. The Radio Shack cable goes from serial to USB
and I hook the M105 to that cable and then into the
USB port on the Mac. It does work on the USB port on
the Dell machine. On the Dell, I do the same thing
I'm trying to do on the MAC. I connect the M105 to
the Radio Shack serial to USB cable and hook it into
the USB port. On the Dell laptop, I can also connect
the M105 without the Serial/USB cable to the serial
port on the Dell. Either way it works.
So, if I understand correctly, you're saying I need
to buy the kit from Palm, or if I buy the Keyspan
cable, does it also come with a matching OS X
    driver?
    Doesn't the Palm 4.2.1 Version A Desktop that I
download for OS X come with the matching OS X
driver? When I do the download, it asks me for the
device and for the MAC OS.
    Thanks again
I had presumed that you were indicating that you
intended to synchronize an m105, using its serial
interface, to a Macintosh. A serial to USB
    converter
is required in that case, similar to those
    suggested
above, because your m105 is a serial device and
    your
    Macintosh has no serial port.
The serial to USB converter is a kit, containing
    both
a hardware adapter and a matching OS X driver.
Without both, your m105 cannot communicate with a
    Macintosh through its USB port.
I have now successfully hot synced the Palm 105 under OS X 10.4.4. I purchased a Keyspan 19HS USB Serial Adapter. I tried the installation over the weekend, and it didn't work. I entered E-Mail on their web site to give details but didn't hear back from them. Today (Thurs. 2/9/06), I called their support telephone no. I nice tech support person guided me through downloading a beta version of their software, necessary for OS X10.4.4, and lo and behold, it all worked.
I'm giving these details in case someone else has this problem -- may save you some time.
Thank you to Michael Lafferty for his good advice.

68575B46-9075-11DB-8B94-000D933084AA:ABPerson represents a single record in the Address Book on your Macintosh desktop or portable computer.
That records is corrupted or incomplete, and the errors further up the list point to three electronic mail identifiers which cannot be properly handled. The first and third contain duplicated field data: the second contains no data. The first electronic mail records is labeled Home, and each of the others is labeled work.
The easiest way to handle this is to launch the Address Book, locate the record identified by the electronic mail address, create a new record and enter the correct and and complete information for that individual, then delete the original, troublesome records. Then synchronize as you typically would, and the deletions and additions you've made will propagate throughout your framework.
With the Missing Sync for Palm OS, you can simply and shorten this process by temporarily creating and using a conduit profile containing only the Mark/Space Contacts conduit, leaving all others in this profile inactive.

For some reason I downloaded Palm desktop 4.1.4 on my windows PC for my M130 and the hot sync manager won't open. My operating system is XP Home. I was wondering if the problem might be that the Palm desktop is too outdated to use on XP. I'm new in the Palm world so I really need some help.

Are you running any kind of Fax software or modem software on this PC?
I found out Windows Media Center has a function that monitors the phone line to your computer.  It will announce the caller ID of any call coming in, if set to do so.
This was causing problems with some Fax software I wanted to run!  When I turned this setting off, the Com port became available.

  • Hot Sync - Recover File

I'd be interested to know if anyone can help me.
I had two Palm folders - one with with addresses, date book, etc., the other one was empty. When the hot sync was performed, it first synced with the empty folder. When I realized this, I performed another hot sync with the other folder that had information and the hot sync synchronization then emptied the good file. Now both folders are empty and all of my information is gone.
I have a backup file so is there any way to bring in the backup file and do a hot sync to reload the information?
    Thank you.

At this time there is no ETA on any, if any, cabled solution for syncing palm os devices to Vista/XP 64 bit machines. There is a bluetooth solution that has been stickied to the top of the hotsync board, that is the best solution available at this time.

  • Not Hot Syncing w/Mac OS X 10.5.2 and Palm Z22, Palm Desktop 4.2.2

I tried double clicking the Hot Sync application, but it will not enable at system setup Error msg: "Could not create auto launch entry to enable HotSync at startup". Otherwise, Hot Sync Manager tells me that it is enabled, I selected it. Yet nothing is hot syncing. I entered some data into palm destop, and I don't see it on my handheld. Are all of these components compatible?
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Ok. So I successfully hot synced, or so I thought. I disabled the hot sync, and then when I tried to re-enable it said that transport manager, and then conduit manager were not in the same folder, so that's why it wouldn't work. I gave up trying to have the hot sync manager in an easy location (ie. on my desktop), and deleted the icons. Then I tried again, but the step I was missing each time was hitting hot sync on my handheld! I haven't use a palm pilot in a looong time. The first hot sync was interrupted and incomplete, the 2nd one seemed to work. Only problem is, the data I entered in the datebook of Palm Desktop doesn't appear on my handheld. THat's precisely what I want to hot sync, much easier to do it on the comp. than manually on my handheld. Help? Does it make a difference that my computer is not registering a new device?

  • Restore Palm Desktop Addresses from last Hot Sync and using those backup files

I have numerous issues.  First I have Windows Vista 64 byte which does not allow a USB Hot Sync so I attempted the Wireless Hot Sync and killed my Palm Centro.  The information was restores going to the store and they did something.  So that is my first issues - I am unable to Hot Sync.  However the Hot Sync took place and I have found the 'Back-up' files on my Computer from that Hot Sync Operation.
My new issue is that somehow I lost many addresses on my Palm Desktop Address File and that is a mystery to me.
What I am trying to accomplish now is to restore those missing addresses on my Palm Desktop (Computer Files) using if possible those backed up files from the last Hot Sync as i do not believe I should try the Wireless Hot Sync again since that has failed me twice and my phone dies and it needs to be restored at the Sprint store.  I'm not even sure I remember now how exactly that was done....
So, is there a way to restore addresses to my computer Palm Desktop from those back-up files from the Hot Sync?  OR does anyone have a solution to actually performing this Wireless Hot Sync without killing  my Palm Centro again?
Thank you for any ideas or suggestions to either or both issues.

Performing a Wireless Hot Sync on a Windows Vista 64 byte system that actually works on a PALM Centro?

    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

You can recover the data from your user folder provided you have only sync'ed once with the PC when you discovered the data missing. When you sync to the PC there are files created for each PIM category in your user folder. For Example; datebook.dat or datebook (Depending on the version of Palm Desktop) and datebook.bak. Using 6.2 the file names are .mdb and mdb.bak. For 6.2, the files are located in the username folder in PalmOSdesktop in my documents.
The files are named .dat and .bak. When you sync, the current data is stored in .dat. The next time you sync the data in the .dat file is copied to the .bak file. You can rename the .dat to .old. then rename the .bak to .dat. If the data in the .bak file is intact, it will now be in palm desktop when you reopen Palm desktop. I have included a link to show you how to find the userfolder on the PC.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=26674
    Here is another link regarding data loss;
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=39503
The best way to backup your data is to use the export feature in Palm Desktop. Make a new folder on the PC desktop named Palm Desktop Backup data. Next, select the category you want to export. You will get a window that asks where you want to save the file, save in the folder created on the desktop. There is a button that allows you to select currently selected record or all, select all. If you don't select all, then only the record highlighted is exported. You will then need to name the file for export, I suggest the name of the category, eg: datebook (With current date). Do this for all critical data in each category. With the data exported to the folder on the PC desktop, you can save this data to a flash drive, external hard drive or a CD-RW. With this method you will have your data in a seperate place than Palm desktop and the device. If you "Lose" data again, you can import the data back into palm desktop.
Make sure that when you make changes in palm desktop or the device to export the data to the folder created for the backup.

  • Palm m125 stylus won't work after hot sync

Yesterday I dropped my m125 and the batteries fell out. I didn't notice right away and the system did a hard reset.
When I put the m125 in the cradle and did a hot sync, it updated everything and then I got a message I needed to reset the palm. When I clicked on the reset button, I went directly to a screen that says Preferences on the LHS and Date and Time on the RHS. My stylus no longer works properly at this point. When I touch the home icon, it does not register. If I try to navigate anywhere using the stylus, it registers that I am touching somewhere else on the screen. There is no way I can get to the home screen so I can go through the welcome and calibrate the stylus.
I uninstalled the palm desktop software, restarted the machine and reinstalled the software. Same exact problem. I installed the DigiFix free software, hot synced to add the program and ... same exact problem.
IF I take the batteries out for a hard reset, then the palm is working exactly correctly.
But I can't get any of my information back unless I hot sync, which renders the palm useless again.
IF I could download the keyboard software, I could hypothetically manually add all the lost info a little bit faster than using the touch screen. But I can't find the software and I will be vulnerable to losing everything again if I can't hot sync the stuff back onto my computer.
One other thing I don't know if it is relevant, even after I uninstalled, restarted and reinstalled the palm desktop software, all of my original data was still available. Shouldn't it be gone if I had removed the entire program? Does it matter?
    Post relates to: Palm m125

After the hard reset; are you able to align your screen? If I am following you correctly you are saying this is the case, and only after the sync the digitizer will no longer align.
If this is the case you may have corrupted data in you Palm Desktop. First I would rename the backup folder under your original user name and sync again to see if this will resolve the issue. If not then you can create a new user name in your Palm DT, then hard reset the device again, then choose to sync to the new user name you created instead of the original user name. Then you could export your original data to a (original user name) file, and then import the data under the new user name to restore your data.
When you delete the Plam DT application it does not remove the data file. When you
re-install the Palm DT software it will re-associate to the original data. This is why the data came back.
