10.4.7 blanked out my ibook screen .. suggestions?

I downloaded the combo update, mounted, installed, optimized and went to restart. Never finished the restart. Now I get the start tone but the ibook G4 screen is black. I was able to connect to my mac mini via target mode and can see the hard drive and the ibook displays the firewire symbol. However, I can't get any screen to display when trying to start up. Any suggestions?
G4 ibook 1.33mHz with 1.5 mb ram
Thanks,

Surprise! I removed the 1GB chip and my ibook came back to life, but so slowly!
I have a new chip so I'll try again. Looks like the upgrade to 10.4.7 worked, but what a challenge.
Thanks for your help.

  • How do I play a video in full-screen mode on one screen of a dual-screen Windows 7 system without blanking out the other screen?

How do I play a video in full-screen mode on one screen of a dual-screen Windows 7 system without blanking out the other screen?  Not losing the other screen would be useful as I would like to, for example, monitor my emails whilst watching a video or to work on a project whilst watching an instructional video.
Note : Resizing a window to fill the screen is not acceptable as it still leaves unsightly borders.

  • Is It Possible to Blank Out the iMac Screen While Mirroring?

I have my iMac hooked up to a Sony Bravia HDTV and would like to know... I am mirroring the displays so whatever shows up on my iMac shows up on my Sony TV, can I black out the screen on the iMac so I can only see the images on the Sony TV? Or do I have to set it up so the Sony TV acts like a 2nd monitor and I have to drag stuff onto the screen?

Can you just switch off the mac screen with the brightness key (top row, 2nd from left)? That's what I do when having my macbook hooked up to an external display - which is most of the time.
You probably looking for something more 'automatic' - as windows would do when using an external display. Not sure if it can be done with mac.

  • My iphone4 just blanked out on my screen

    hi.
just now about ten minutes ago i switched my phone, its normal for two mins and booom it gone blank but i can hear messages coming in.
its beggining to irritate me BIG TIME.
    please help me.

    Hello Kundai67,
I would be concerned too if my iPhone only had a blank screen.  I recommend following steps 3-6 below:
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on),reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more aboutrestoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.

  • Music Videos are blanking out

    Hi Everyone,
I buy a lot of music videos from Itunes...and lately they have been blanking out on my screen. The music keeps playing, but the screen flicks all white, or goes black. If I move my mouse it comes on, but sometimes blanks again right after. I don't think it's a screen saver issue as it happens very quickly. Any thoughts or help is gratefully received.

my suggestion would be to re download the specific videos that this is happening to. As well make sure you have the latest version of itunes and quicktime. Maybe this will work. Give it a shot. hope all goes well.

  • [Solved] Screen blanks out after quitting X

    Hello everyone.
I don't use any login manager such as GDM or Slim, I just start X from the terminal when I need it. However, after installing Arch the last time (new hdd), every time I exit X (XFCE 4 is my window manager) the screen blanks out. I know the system is still responsive, because if I type startx or reboot, it works. Calling startx wakes the monitor again. However, I don't need X all the time, sometimes I prefer not to use it.
I haven't dealt with this before and searching for a solution didn't help - nvidia users used to have this issue until a particular driver update.
However, I have an ATI card (HD 5750) and I use the xf86-video-ati driver.
Appending vga=773 to kernel options changes the resolution (of my ttys) but it doesn't solve the issue.
I'm kind of clueless about how to proceed, so any hints and tips would be welcome.
    Thanks

It's a long thread, but be sure to read it all carefully <joking>
    Thanks, I missed that repo
The catalyst driver doesn't have the issue, so as far as it works, the issue is resolved.

Having an intermittent issue where my iMac blanks out on me. On restarting I get several bands running down the screen with pixels jumping around within the bands, then the white screen of death and nothing... This happens intermittently and usually restarts OK. Happened again three days ago and wouldn't restart for two days (again the bands/pixels etc) but now operating fine? Any ideas whats wrong with my iMac and what the solution may be? Also gets very hot from time to time, particularly if I'm playing music/watching youtube/movies for extended periods. • Screen continually blanks out

I have a 20GB ipod, about four months old. Recently the screen has started blanking out randomly, and for long periods of time. It still plays music, but is practically impossible to use because the screen is so unpredictable.
Could it be something to do with the battery?

I've just noticed in another topic that the DVI output from Macs is 'exclusive' to Apple Cinema Displays, and can only be used with third-party display via a DVI - VGA adapter. This would make sense in relation to the other post on this subject elsewhere, where the poster talks about resolving the problem with the VGA adapter, although he thought this indicated the DVI cable was dodgy... I've not seen this issue coming up in any other discussion/post here or elsewhere where various third-party (and Dell) displays are discussed.
In addition to the circumstances listed above in my earlier post, I've now noticed that the problem is at its worse when viewing a web page with Flash content - constantly updating/changing animations and effects...
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

  • Macbookpro screen blanks out momentarily?

My macbook pro screen momentarily blanks out, then comes back on.  It happens very quickly, if you blink, you could miss it.  It is almost like it is "catching up".  This happens even on the home screen, when nothing is running, so the system is not being tasked.  The system responds normally, no sluggishness or anything, the screen just blanks out, then everything is up and running as if nothing ever happened.  It is unpredictable, meaning it does not occur "every three minutes, five minutes, etc".  I can say it happens probably once every ten minutes, but not on a regular, predictable pattern.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hi @N_K_1660 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15 Notebook and issues with the screen going black while playing videos. If you adjusting the Sleep settings in Windows 8 sleep options  , this should help.
The section Enabling Away mode when sharing media files in Windows 8 will help as well.
    Thanks.

  • X220 Screen Blanking out

    Hi,
I have a problem on my X220 where the screen blanks out.
    Here's how it happens.
First, the system hangs, noticably (like freezes for about half a second)
Then the screen goes completely black
    And then comes back on
None of my programs are closed or reset (Chrome, Gtalk etc.) and only thing that seems to be different is that the Lenovo Power Manager/Wireless Manager Icons seem to have reset.
Anybody know what could be causing this?
(if it matters, I have my pagefile disabled, but have 8GB of ram installed.  I closely monitor my ram usage and it has never been above 4.2 GB)

    AT: tocirahl
I had the same issue you describe. After booting into WIndows the system blanks a few times and eventually hangs. Sometimes I can just see a popup appearing showing "Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered".
The strange thing is that my system has this issue ever since I got yhe machine and first powered it on. Even completion of the factory windows installation was not possible due to this crash. I found out that when the Graphics Driver was installed the system would crash.
I have send it back for repair yesterday and I am still waiting to hear the cause of this blanking/crashing issue. Quite anoying because the system is not usable at all.
Any suggestions what this issue can be?!

  • Screen Saver when calling and need to use the Keypad, the screen saver doesn't detect the phone has left the ear and blanks out the screen.  Even ending a call is difficult as the screen blanks out within seconds

I have to use the Keypad a lot when making calls.  Make the call, the Robot then asks to enter a number for a service, pull the phone down from the ear, the screen may light up for a second, but then the screen saver cuts in, blanking the screen out.  Sometimes you hit the Home Key to awaken the sccreen, enter your number and then back to the ear to hear the next set of instructions.  Back and forth just trying to enter the options is a pain.  Sometimes even trying to end the call, the screen blanks out and you fight to try and end a call.
If I use the Speaker function the keypad works; the speakler phone is not alway appropriate.
It appears that the phone gyro, doesn't detect the phone has moved from the ear to the viewing angle.  This wasn't an issue until recently and I can't remeber if it's the iPhone 5 or one of the updates.  It definitly wasn't there earlier on, as I threw away an Windows 6.5 phone for the same problem.
I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software (design) issue.

It is not the gyro. This has everything to do with the iPhone's prioximity sensor.
Are you using a case that may be blocking or partially blocking the proximity sensor? If you are using the case, remove the case prior to the next call to see if the same occurs without the case.

  • Screen blanks out when trying to move apps in itunes 11.1

I can't move apps from one screen.folder to another without the screen blanking out in itunes 11.1

I've had a similiar problem. I once tried connecting my player to a stereo system using someone elses stereo and audio cables. I connected the cables to the headphone jack and watched as my creative zvm sort of freaked out and went to the fm radio screen. However, a few seconds ago I tried this once again using my own cables (exact same type as my friends audio cables, just a different brand) and was able to successfully connect my player to my stereo reciever and nothing went wrong. So the only differences between these two attempts were the cables (which as far as I know are the exact same thing, just with some minor cosmetic differences, both had a standard audio jack that fit the headphone connection, and both split into two auxiliary connectors for audio, one red, one white), both went through different stere recievers, and I had upgraded my firmware since that last attempt.
When I first tried it and the player freaked out I wondered if it was caused by some complication due to the feature that allows you to have a wired remote control. But since it works on my setup I'm not too sure about that unless that was somethign that got fixed with the latest firmwware release.
And this is something I tried while writing this. I went into settings, went to audio/video settings and turned oof the Video Out option. Connected my usb dongle (that came with my player) to my player and connected my video cables to the player and connected the white and red connectors to my reciever. The screen stayed on and audio played through my stereo. Even with Video Out on music still played but obviously the screen turned off as it switched to A/V Out mode.

  • Since the last 2 updates to Firefox my screen flickers or blanks out when I scroll my mouse, or type. I also can't scroll using the side bar on the right side of the screen. Please help!

As detailed in my question. I need help as my screen has been flickering or blanking out when I scroll my mouse or when I type. This has only started happening since the last 2 updates to Firefox.

Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window.<br />
If that works then close Firefox to save that setting.<br />

  • Web pages blanked out by light blue screen T510

I also have a blue screen problem.
Web pages are often, but not always, blanked out by a light blue screen.
This happened while I was writing the previous sentence.
The immediate remedy is to click on another tab, and then click back.
But I would like to solve the problem permanently. It is irritating - and unprofessional - on such an expensive computer.
    Anyone have any ideas?
Any drivers to download? (I solved the fuzzy font problem by downloading a driver, but I can't find one for this)
Moderator edit: Added detail to subject.

Sure sounds browser related.  There is a small chance it's browser vs graphics driver somehow.
If you are running FireFox (4 in particular) what happens if you turn off the "use hardware accelleration if available" option in the browser?
This is a real WAG, so I don't expect it to pan out.

  • T41 Screen blanking out

I have a 4 year old T41 which has been a solid and reliable machine. In the last couple of weeks, the display has been blanking out after a few minutes. I have it hooked up with a second monitor. Another posting suggested closing the lid and opening it again, which works, but again only for a few minutes. I recently downloaded XP SP3. Is there any relationship here, or is it simply that the screen is wearing out?
I can't find any download on the Lenovo site which addresses this issue. Suggestions or the name of a good repair shop in New York City?

Pinkish/reddish tint on initial boot is a dead giveaway for a failing backlight. Nothing else produces this symptom.
If you're handy the backlight is replaceable, but is quite a tedious job.
Swapping the whole LCD may be an easier proposition.
The service that I personally use for this type of repair is not cheap, and has a long waiting list, but I'd have no issues recommending it to you should you choose to take that route.
Good luck and let us know.
    Cheers,
    George
