10.4.7 Bluetooth problem (solution)

I had a little problem with bluetooth after updating to 10.4.7 yesterday, but I think I've found a solution for it. If your bluetooth stops working (but OS X says it's fine), read on.
I updated my PB G4 1.33G with the combo updater yesterday, and right after the reboot, bluetooth was working fine. But after one sleep/resume cycle, my bluetooth mouse and cellphone stopped working. OS X says that bluetooth is fine, although when i tried to turn it off from the menu applet, it takes a very long time to respond. Bluetooth preferences just flat out crashed.
So I rebooted the computer and did a clean up with Applejack (applejack.sourceforge.net). This seems to have fixed the problem. It's a simple fix I know, but I thought it might be useful for some people.
Beware that I did this on a PowerPC mac. Although since Applejack is just a script, I don't see why it wouldn't work with Intel macs.

You may be able to manually replace the Extension that's causes the incompatibility with the version from 10.4.6. I did this to solve same sort of sleep issue with a USB PCI card. Instructions here. The file in that post seems specific to USB, though it's been proposed that it may help with Bluetooth also- don't know since I don't have BT installed.
FWIW, the BT drivers, IOBluetoothFamily.kext, was updated with 10.4.7. If that is the only problem and it worked in 10.4.6, going back may work until Firmware updates become available.

  • Bluetooth problems all around - Modem in the first row.

    Hi there,
I've got a really annoying problem with the Bluetooth Setup of my Mac. Like you can see in my system description, I use Mac OS X 10.5.6. For a long time I used my old mobile via Bluetooth and GPRS as a Modem. Now it was time for a change. I bought a new mobile which supports 3G (Nokia 5800 Xpress Music).
I used the Bluetooth Wizard and told him to use all possible bluetooth functions of my device. I looked in the internet for the right configuration (APN, CID,...) and choosed to use the Nokia GPRS/3G Modem script which is preinstalled in Mac OS X (I also tried another one from www.taniwha.org.uk, it didn't work either).
The very strange thing is, the first connection worked without any problem, but after disconnecting and reconnecting it didn't work anymore. Instead I've got a message that the RFCOMM-Channel can't be opened.
I tried to fix the problem myself by searching wrong settings in some plists, but although I restored the original settings after recognizing that my changes didn't work, I've got a new problem.
Now the status symbol of the bluetooth modem always shows up that no modem configuration could be found, although I can still try to connect via Network -> Bluetooth. Of course it doesn't work this way too.
Sometimes the bluetooth modem works once after a reboot ( not after every reboot ). But only once!
File Transfer always works! The Nokia Multimedia Transfer also always works.
I definitely need advice of some of you, experts.
I'd love to hear from you!

    Hi,
sorry, but the problem isn't solved yet. I tried different things but nothing helped:
I backuped and deleted the following Files:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/Preferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
    /Users/benutzername/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.BluetoothHASH.plist
But it didn't help. In fact it made things worse. Therefore I restored the backuped files.
I deleted all bluetooth devices and installed just my new phone a bunch of times. - No change at all.
I used FSEventer to control the Filesystem Access. That leaded me only to the files mentioned above.
    In the log-file:
    /private/var/log/ppp.log
is the following error message logged:
Failed to open /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem: Resource busy
Up until now, I don't understand why this resource is busy.
I figured out, that the modem works using a USB-connection. That isn't a satisfying solution but it works for now.
Nevertheless I am still really interested in resolving the Bluetooth problem.

  • Bluetooth problem Yosemite

I bought a new iMac 21,5 with wireless keyboard and the Magic Mouse.
I've been using it for about two weeks now and everything was working fine, until i installed the new OSX Yosemite when it released.
Now, about 10x an hour the computer loses the bluetooth connection with the keyboard.
This is very annoying, since i use it for 3D drawing, and everytime it loses connection, i have to fill in the numbers again.
I've read on the internet that a lot of people share these problems.
Is Apple coming with a solution or update? Or can i fix this myself?
Read something about resetting RAM etc as well. But since my computer is new, I dont think that'll do it.
    Thank you very much.

I had the bluetooth problem where my MacBook Pro wouldn't reconnect to my external bluetooth keyboard after the initial connect when I upgraded to Yosemite. I found the solution in another thread from nashntk:  "everything were solved by resetting SMC Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)."
So far, the SMC reset fixed all of my bluetooth issues after the Yosemite upgrade. And it seems to be an ongoing solution as one reset has allowed me to disconnect and reconnect again multiple times.

  • To Nokia - Bluetooth problems or 6300 and 3110

    Dear Nokia,
Please, please you are killing everyone with your Nokia bluetooth phone incompatiblity.
What do you guys intend to do?
Do you acknowledge there is a problems.
I bought a 6300 when I lost the best Nokia ever phone 6230i.
The bluetooth connectivity is appalling.. Echoes and cut outs plague the receiver of your call.
So far bought BH200 useless, HS26W Jabras do not work, and BH100 does not work.
I then thought it was the phone, but so bought another 6300 it also has the same problems.
I then bought the 3110 classic which actually has a lovely keyboard layout. The phone is great, but the bluetooth problems are the same/ slightly better.
Nokia Uk are not helpful... They just say return the phone to o2. They live in denial...curse on their houses.
Nokia has beeen very sloppy on this bluetooth issue. They will kill their business. They have lost my loyalty...
I am now faced with buying a Samsung. Sonys are terrible and Blackberrys are too small to use in a moving car.
My hi-tech friend says it is incompatible bluetooth software on the phone. Nothing you can do till NOkia acknowledge the problem and send out a new patch..
Edit: removed e-mail addressMessage Edited by scousermodman on 25-Sep-2007 11:10 AM

I am also having the same problem.
    I have a 6300 and a Samsung WEP150 headset.
The headset works fine with My SonyEricsson W810i and I can also transfer contacts between the W810i and the Nokia 6300 using bluetooth but for some reason the 6300 can't see the headset.
Seems like Nokia haven't got thier bluetooth implementation quite right (At this point it seems the most likely cause). If they can provide a solution I'll be very happy to be wrong.
I'll let you know if I find a solution.

  • TWIST: Strange Bluetooth Problem

This doesn't make sense to me. When the system is started from a completely powered off state, the bluetooth radio doesn't turn on and no devices will pair. The bluetooth icon in the taskbar is missing. I tried to manually turn it on but Windows won't let me (in the Wireless section of "Change PC Settings", the Bluetooth option is grayed out).
If I restart the system (from the powered on state), the radio turns on and everything works fine. The bluetooth icon in the task bar is visible and my devices will pair.
My wireless radio always works regardless of how I start the system. It has never failed through all of this wierdness.
I have the Intel Centrino version of the twist (i5, 128GB SSD) with the latest driver and the latest bios version. I tried re-installing the bluetooth drivers but I get the same results.
HISTORY: From day one, I never had any bluetooth or wireless problems. Last week the system was crashing with the error DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE. After a few of those I checked for updates and installed everything available to me (a bios update and a few other things but no actual drivers). After the updates, the bluetooth problem occurred. However, it's been a few days and I haven't had the Power State Failure crash.
I ran Lenovo's hardware scan and there are no problems with any devices.
Anyone have ideas what could be wrong?

I have been on the phone to Lenovo support. They say it has to do with power management, not all services restoring when PC is turned on. They asked me to,click the start button, run, enter compmgmt.msc, This opens a window to Computer Management. Now open device manager, expand Bluetooth, right click Broardcom Bluetooth 4.0, properties, power management tab, uncheck 'allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".  I did all this and it made no difference on my PC. He then went on to say there is another way but it will add 10 seconds to the startup time of my PC which I am not willing to do. So things remain the same until I find a better solution. Has any one else had any luck with this annoying problem? Now I never shutdown my laptop, I just close the lid. Bluetooth starts again when the lid is opened.

  • Nokia 6230i Bluetooth problem connecting HELP!!!

Hi, I have spent the best part of the day trying to establish whether my new nokia 6230i mobile phone that I received for xmas is faulty or is it something I am doing wrong. I just cannot seem to connect to my computer via the Bluetooth or infrared. I have been reading other peoples problems with the same thing on various websites and I thought rather than try and struggle anymore somebody here may be able to help!!! I downloaded to PC suite that came with the phone, and even downloaded a higher version (apparantly a newer one). But my phone just wont connect. I then managed to download - 1.6.1 from http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=607&kind=8
which seems to be working fine but as soon as i tried to connect it just will not find my connection on my phone. Do i need to buy any other accessories before I can connect?? I might also add that we also tried on my partners laptop and nothing is happening at all.Am i doing something wrong. somebody please tell me if I need to buy extra USB ports before using this feature. Although being Bluetooth I thought this was wireless?? Also any recommendations on how to use the infrared would be great to. Sorry to drag this on - i am not new to phones as i have had many but this has got me stumped. Thanks in advance for any help. Dawnie33

If your Bluetooth solution is Bluesoleil, I would firstly update your Nokia PC Suite to latest version, 6.70.22 from www.nokia.com/pcsuite ( I don't recall by heart what was the level of BlueSoleil support in PC Suite 6.5, but it can be that your problem is partly related to BlueSoleil not being officially supported with that old version of PC Suite (6.5).
Then the next thing is to look around for intructions how you make sure that if you have Windows Xp SP 2 (which has microsoft own Bluetooth sw solution that easily "fights" with any other Bluetooth sw), how you make the Bluesoleil work in your PC flawlessly.
Google is good help for that, search for links like: "BlueSoleil sw problem in XP SP2" or similar and look for instruction how you make sure you only have BlueSoleil sw in active use.

  • Mini Bluetooth Problems - Dongle instead?

Given that the new Mini has old Mini Bluetooth problems (and no solution in sight from any Apple folks), anyone have luck or solutions for disabling the internal 'radio' and using an external BT Dongle (say, D-Link)? When I turn BT off, and plug the dongle in, nothing happens - even after a reboot.

Well, - I'm having the same problem as described in the first post. The N97 mini connects flawlessly with some PCs, headsets, and handsfree car systems.
I disagree with the purpose of remote SIM mode as before mentioned. Remote SIM access is to support the rSAP (remote SIM access profile) installed in some premium handsfree systems (like in my Skoda Superb) and basically lets the handsfree system 'steal' your SIM, including PIN etc. over BT for use with its own built in phone.
But in my new Mazda MX-5 I am having trouble to place calls with the handsfree car system. It is not a rSAP capable system and I have tried with and without rSAP in the N97 mini enabled, to no avail.
The N97 mini pairs fine and I can receive incoming calls. Also, I can place calls from the device itself, but when I try to place a call over the car's handsfree system it basically freezes for a few minutes before the car system throws an error. During these minutes I can see on the car display that it looses connection to the phone, albeit the N97 mini still shows connected state. Once these 1 or 2 minutes have passed, the phone shows disconnected, and then reconnects immediately. By experimenting a bit, I found that when I change the BT visibility, from not visible to visible or vice versa, during those minutes, the phone catches up with the number and dials.
And yes, my N97 mini is on the latest FW (12.0.110).
It's a pity that this problem is obviously already so old, that I have little hope Nokia is going to fix it. My old 6600i slide, and my wifes 6131 are working like a charm, unfortunately I need the N97 mini to work for other reasons ...
Despite I don't know if the N8 would work, it's not an option since it's not supported by PC Suite anymore, thus doesn't synchronize with Lotus Notes, which is what I need at work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated ... thanks

  • E71 Bluetooth Problem

Got a Jawbone Prime last week.
Tried to pair it with my E71 and succeed. After a while, it was disconnected. Then re-connect again... disconnected... connected and so forth.
However, it works fine with my 6500c though.
    Please kindly help on this.

I have the same problem where my Nokia E71 disconnects from my BMW carkit (E61) in the middle of phonecalls.
This is very annoying, and introduced after I've installed firmware 300.21.012. My BMW dealer advises to install firmware 200.21.118.
I've contacted Nokia support and they point to BMW. Mr. Mustafa of the Advanced Technical Care Team (Nokia Netherlands), doesn't understand that 2 parties are necessary to corporate to solve problems which are reported by multiple customers. besides of that, I think Nokia can't ignore the fact that more and more cars do have factory installed bluetooth carkits. There is no real conversation possible with Nokia. Since they think problems are always concerns to others. Nokia doesn't know the words problem and customer. So customer satisfaction is not a goal for Nokia.
I've seen a couple of initiatives* around the web to catch this bluetooth problem. What I've done so far is
    - Deleted SMS inbox messages*
    - Unpair the E71 and the BMW carkit
    - Pair the E71 with a 16-digit pass code*
    - Configure the server version as 1.2 (in stead of 1.1) in the PC suite synchronisation profile (for phonebook synchronisation)
    - Configure the bluetooth connection with my PC to Manual.
    - Reboot my E71 after it has been synchronised with my PC (PC Suite)
For a premium brand, which Nokia say they are, customers shouldn't be bothered searching for problems which are caused by a firmware update. I will post all conversation and response of Nokia in this thread, so you all can see that Nokia support staff is very well trained to waive all responsibility.

  • Bluetooth problem with OSX Yosemite

    Hi,
I just installed Yosemite on my MacBook Pro MD101LL/A 13.3-Inch and I can't connect my Magic Mouse or my Big Jambox speaker through bluetooth.
Is there a way to fix this issue?
    Thanks in advance.

Bluetooth Connect Reconnect Problem / Solution Workaround for Yosemity: (Summary: Try 'Turn Wifi Off' to wake up Bluetooth!!!)
If you can not connect/reconnect your bluetooth devices, try "Turn Wifi Off".  It seems to 'wake up' the bluetooth and then my devices reconnect.
In my case, after sleep/wake of my MacBook, my bluetooth keyboard would NOT reconnect.  When I 'Turn Wifi Off" my bluetooth starts working again immediately and my bluetooth keyboard immediately reconnects.  I read on some non-Apple.com forum that sometimes 'Turn Wifi Off' on yosemite makes bluetooth start working again. Other times, 'Turn Off Wifi' followed by 'Turn On Wifi' makes bluetooth start working again.
In my case, whenever I can not get my bluetooth devices to connect/reconnect to my MacBook, I simply "Turn Wifi Off" and it immediately reconnects.
    Good luck.
P.S. I'm guessing that with the 'Handoff a.k.a. Continuity' enhancements to Yosemeti, which use Bluetooth to dynamically enable iOS devices to coordinate workflows with MacBooks, that Handoff's dynamic explolitation of bluetooth behind the scenes, which is a new style of load usage on Bluetooth, that it has messed up the way Bluetooth is managed in Yosemite.  I'm guessing that Apple is aware of this and will fix it eventually.  Until then, "Turn Off Wifi" seems to do the trick for me when I want to 'wakee up' my MacBook's bluetooth and get my external devices connected normally.

  • How to fix the Bluetooth problems with the Treo

It’s pretty obvious by now that Palm had not intentions of addressing the Bluetooth problems with the Treo smart phones. As for me, I need to reset my Treo 700wx several times a day to keep the bluetooth connection working. At my house it simply does not work because I live in a rural area where my cell signal drops out continuously, only for a moment but that’s all it takes for the Treo loose the Bluetooth connection.
I’ve searched here on this board for a solution only to find out that I’m not the only one with this problem. I’ve searched the Internet and could not believe the endless complaints about this problem, not a single fix was to be found. I will be going to every single site I can find on the Internet where I can leave a review of this product and I would encourage others with the same problem to do the same.

The "Mobile Device" you see only shows what is on your Treo when ActiveSync is running and connected.  When it's not connected, there is "nothing".  This is good when you want to copy a file you have saved in RAM (main memory).  Connect your Treo and have Activesync run (successfully, of course).  Then, you will see all the accessible files on your Treo.
Please read the previous reply (I have added and edited it to respond to some of your questions).  Also, since I have the Card Export 3.14 for the WM5 and 6 running and it works on my Treo 750, I believe it should also work for you.  I have WM 6.  Earlier versions of Card Export actually "broke" Activesync for me.  It wasn't until very recently that I wanted to try it again, in hopes that they have fixed the bugs.  Apparently they have and I now use it to "fix" Activesync when it doesn't want to connect.
So, the latest version is 3.14 and it supports WM 5 and 6 (although they incorrectly named it Windows Mobile 2005/2006).

  • How to Solve Wi-Fi or Bluetooth Problems on your iOS Device?

Do you have any problem with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your iOS Device? Please read these steps carefully and follow it!
These Steps that I am sharing are TESTED by 10 iOS users what had problems with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth or both and was successful
    - Please note that Resetting/Factory Resetting/Hard Resetting or Recovering or un-jailbreaking your device will not work at all -
To Solve Wi-Fi Problems Follow these steps (But before doing anything please restart your iOS Device and see if you still have network problems):
Step 1 Go to Settings > General > Reset > Rest Network Settings and Reset your Network Settings and wait until your device re-boots
Step 2 Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and see if you can connect to your Wi-Fi If you can't then go to next step
Step 3 Go to Settings > Airplane Mode and turn on Airplane Mode and shut down your device. Go to your network provider and ask to restart the Modem or do it your self (Just unplug power cord and plug it back in) You have to wait 30 seconds.
Step 4 Boot your device and go to Settings > Airplane Mode and this time turn if off and go to Wi-Fi and see if you can connect it again. If you can't then go to next step - Note: If you are going on to Step 5 it means that your device is experiencing Critical System Error that cannot be fixed easily -
Step 5 Go your laptop/desktop and open your browser then type this on the webpage search bar 192.168.0.1 and click enter. If it doesn't work then go and ask your network provider for an address for your modem/internet settings.
Step 6 Change your modem/internet settings to no password and make it "available/visible for everyone" and go to your iOS device and got to Settings > Wi-Fi and see if it works this time. If it still doesn't work go to next step - Note: If you are going on to the next step it means you are experiencing Critical System Error that had been cause by glitch/bug -
Step 7 Connect your iOS Device to iTunes on your laptop/desktop and update your iOS version -Note: this process if basically re-installing your operating system- If you can't update if because the new update if not available you have to wait for next update unfortunately
Step 8 After updating your iOS Device Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and see if it connects to your Wi-Fi. It normally fixes the problem but if it still doesn't, it means your device is experiencing hardware problem. Visit your local Apple Retail Store or reseller and ask them for complimentary/device-exchange/warranty help or go to Apple website for online support: www.apple.com/support/ for better support.
To Solve Bluetooth Problem all you need to do is resetting (not factory resetting) your device and see if it works, if it doesn't you will need to update your iOS or Google for more technical troubleshooting because it could be your pairing device's problem. Visit www.apple.com/support/ for better support.
If anyone of you had these experiences and was successful troubleshooting please do share your experience. I will also be avaliable to answer your questions if you have one! Please do share your openions about my post if you have one

If you don't mind, would you do that for me please?

  • Airport & Bluetooth problems after 10.4.7 update

(Note: I posted this in the Tiger forums and after no response, thought I'd try here.)
    Greetings,
After updating to 10.4.7, my iMac G5 20" iSight exhibits occasional loss of signal strength in the Airport and poor or lost Bluetooth connections with the wireless keyboard and mouse.
The Airport and Bluetooth problems happen together at the same time. I can see the Airport signal strength drop and seconds later the mouse starts becoming slow and I usually lose connectivity with my keyboard. After about 10 minutes, signal strength returns on both.
The system is well isolated from interference, the cordless phone is a 5 ghz unit, and all cellphones have been removed from the room, but the symptoms continue. The wireless G router is only 3 meters away in the same room.
I reapplied the combo 10.4.7 updater, repaired permissions, cleaned caches using Applejack, zapped the PRAM and reset the SMU but the problem still happens.
Any suggestions? It is driving me crazy.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I'll add a "here, here". I have a 20" iMac G5 (1.8 GHZ). Since applying 10.4.7 I have had Bluetooth disappear twice. Disappear as in: keyboard and mouse no longer function and the bluetooth icon in the menu bar disappears. Power cycle works to recover the system. A far from elegant workaround.
