10.4.7 upgrade "Mail password required every time"

I have a fleet of G5 Powermacs in two cities a thousand miles apart plus the new Macbook Pro. All required the 10.4.7 update which was done by the Automatic Software Update feature.
The problem.
Not one, but all of these machines (5) including the Macbook Pro will not save the login password for our email accounts in Mail. We have 2 POP accounts plus 3 .Mac accounts. Mail since the update does not seem to access the keychain to use or verify the password for each account.
I have looked in the keychain and all the passwords are there. I have checked the "save password to keychain" box every time I log in. It does not save it.
Is this a bug in Mail? I have seen a lot of messages about problems with Mail since this Update but none have provided he right answer to this problem.
I have seen answers blaming the ISP. This is clearly a Mac problem as the update does not use the information stored in the keychain. I have also re-entered the password directly into the Mail Preferences setup box only to see it blank the nextime I open it. Ver 10.4.6 always showed an invisible password ie a row of black dots in this box. Ver 10.4.7 is always blank.
All machines access ADSL. Some directly, some through a router. All have exactly the same problem.
Does Apple know about this problem?? Can anyone give a straight answer?

In addition to the above post I have done all of these as suggested in these posts, "they dont work" :-
"Open Keychain Access, choose Keychain First Aid from the application menu, and proceed to repair the Keychain. If that doesn't work, you may try removing the password entry from the Keychain, and let Mail create it again.
Also, open Mail Help and read the article titled Mail keeps asking for my keychain password, in case it applies to you. There is a related article titled My password is not saved that you should ignore, as the last suggestion provided there (deleting the mail account) is wrong and could cause irretrievable data loss if this is not an IMAP-type account."

The Mac OS X 10.4.7 Update changed the Mail version to 2.1. As a result, the keychain items used by Mail need to be updated in order for the new version of Mail to be granted access to them. The first time you launched Mail 2.1, it should have asked you whether you wanted to update your keychain. If you didn't do that for some reason, then Mail won't be able to access those items in the keychain now.
You can try to fix the problem in Keychain Access using the Access Control pane for each item, or just delete those items so that Mail creates them again.

  • "Password required" every time I want to edit my contacts. Why?

"Password required" every time I want to edit my contacts. Why?
Since I updated, I keep getting the same request from my contact list on my iPad. Not on my iPhone. I can't figure out where to correct this and it's driving me crazy.

Yes I'm logged in. It only does it on my iPad. I tried restyling my Apple ID password and it still does the same thing.
I'm missing something but can't figure out where. It started after I updated to ios7. Maybe there is a setting somewhere I'm missing.

  • How to disable/remove password requirement every time you send amessage

Every time I try to send an email, I get a box requiring me to type in a password (the one associated w/my ISP provider account). I can't find a way to turn off. My daughter uses Thunderbird & does not have this problem. She has a desktop pc & I am using a laptop, but I wouldn't think that would make a difference? This is so annoying and I couldn't find an answer any where in HELP or online support. My daughter set Thunderbird up for me & can't figure out why this is happening or how to make it so I don't have to do this. Please help & provide me w/a solution. THANKS!

There is no check box with, at or near the password requirement. It is the same password used to access my server (comcast.net). I have asked comcast.net and they told me it is a Mozilla Thunderbird problem, and they have no control over it, so can't fix the problem - CALL THUNDERBIRD!
But Thunderbird doesn't have any customer service. The problem only began when I had to change my comcast.net password (and no, the old one doesn't work either now).

  • Mail password required every day or two.

Didn't do this until recently. OS x 10.7.3 Lion.

It may not be a problem on your computer. Sometimes this happens when your ISP's mail server is flaky or offline. Mail can't connect, so it asks you to input your password again.

What happen?  How do I correct this?

    Hi Nuch1,
I found an article that is contains very thorough Mail troubleshooting steps:
OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3276
You can use that article to figure out what part of the email "ecosystem" is the cause of the issue, and it can also help you attempt to resolve it.
    Hope that helps,

    Hi all,

As rex already mentioned, Apps and other content are forever tied to the Apple ID that was used to purchase them. No transfers. No combining Apple IDs. Forever means forever.
In practice, this means any apps you currently have - free or paid - will need to be either repurchased using your new Apple ID or downloaded again if free. Until you refresh all of your apps, your iPad will ask for credentials to the old Apple ID any time one of the apps is updated.
Why did you feel it was necessary to create a new Apple ID?

  • Apple ID password login every time I used an application

    Hello,
I'm getting an Apple ID Password Login every time I used an application, phone (Verizon, iPhone 4), or any other programs.  I login correctly and it still ask me to login again.  I don't think my phone needs to get any updates, becasue I update my phone and applications when I get home at night.
Anyone having this problem?  This is annoying!
    Thanks

Are you logged into your account in Settings/Store?

  • Why is the CD required every time I install an update?

Why is the CD required every time I install an update?

One possibility: in some versions of Acrobat you are offered the choice of whether to copy installation files. If you say no, you will need to refer back to the CD for every update.

Maybe this will help. If you monitor the "More Like This" box (top right), other threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads.

  • Mail Password Required

Everytime I goto Mail it requires I enter my i cloud password.  This is only since updating to OS X Mavericks and I can't seem to figure out why or how to fix it.  I don't sign out or anything and am not worried about someone in my household using my email.  Anyone know how to fix this or is it part of the Mavericks PKG?

    Hello FaceTime frustration,
It would certainly get frustrating to enter your password every time you opened Mail.  I recommend following the steps in the article below to troubleshoot this issue (the article title references Mountain Lion, but the steps are relevant for Mavericks as well):

  • "Password required" every 3 minutes. Regardless of what page I am in. Cancel gets rid of box and it pops up again.

Constant poping up of "Password Required" box. I can hit cancel it dissappears and comes back in 3 minutes or 2. I never enter the password and it keeps coming back. It happens in sites I am logged into. That I know.

    Also check the connection settings.
    *Tools > Options > Advanced > Network : Connection > Settings

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

  • Sick of password nag every time I install an app on OSX ver 10.5.6

Hi can some kind individual pls tell me how I can get rid of the stupid nag screen that asks for the password every time I install or change a setting in my mac? Its like that stupid UAC thing in vista. No one else other than my self uses this machine and I am not dumb enough to do something stupid cos I disable this screen.

sorry, I misunderstood your question somehow. I thought you were asking about the confirmation screen (not requiring a password) that you get when you first run an application that you got off internet.
You can't get rid of the password prompts when you install things that require system changes. and that's a very good thing IMO. But you should be able to install most apps without a password if you are using an admin account. only apps that use installers and change some system files require passwords. apps installed by a drag and drop into /Applications don't.

  • Since upgrading to Firefox 4 every time I open or refresh a page everything freezes and I have to wait a minute or so for it to respond again. I'm also having problems with uploading to Photobucket and watching things via Youtube since the upgrade.

Since upgrading to Firefox 4.0 a couple of days ago, every time I open or reload a page the whole browser freezes. At first I thought it might be down to compatibilty issues with other programmes open at the time, but as the problem has persisted when those programmes aren't open I'm starting to think it's the browser itself and it's getting extremely frustrating having everything freeze every time I want to change a page.
My other problem is twofold: with Youtube nothing plays at all because the toolbar with the play/pause option simply isn't there and I am unable to access the upload function on Photobucket because likewise it won't appear. I'm assuming this has something to do with Flash but have no idea how to fix it.
    I've tried

hello, often such issues are caused by a firewall/security software which doesn't recognize & therefore blocks new firefox versions. please remove all program rules for firefox from your firewall and let it detect the new version of the browser again.
