10.4.7 w/ 2 Wire Networking (Mac will not allow driver to see USB PC Port)

I've been using a 2 wire Networking DSL modem (AT&T/SBC) for years with no problem. Now with my new Intel iMac running 10.4.7 - the system will install the 2 Wire driver, but the new USB setting are wiped when the driver asks me to restart. Is there any way around this? It has completly shut down my DSL Internet system that untill now has been working flawlessly.

Maybe it's a good time to consider moving to a DSL router (wireless or not.) It is so much more cleaner solution... These days you can get a three-in-one box: DSL modem + 4port router + wireless access point.

Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then  "About This Mac".  Write down what it says about "version"and report that here.  Now continue to "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
Even my 12 year old Mac lets me download the newest iTunes.  Of course I can't install it but any computer can download the installer files so we need to know precisely what you are trying and what error messages you are seeing.

  • HT1218 Cannot use WPS-capable Wi-Fi printer on company network because network administrators will not allow

Great. So I am in an office and need to set up my own printer to avoid paying printing costs on the company network printer. How does WPS-capable Wi-Fi printer capability help.
It does not. And for any company of any size it will not help. Who is going to fly to all of the facilities and run around pushing buttons to get the connection to work. It appears this is useless "technology". This is innovation???

Which printer is it? There may be an alternative method.
As for WPS, it is also a security risk so no good IT admin is going to enable it on an SMB or large enterprise network.

  • Networked mac will not share internet connection

When I connect my G4Imac to a Imacdv I can establish file sharing etc but the Imacdv is not able to connect to the internet via the G4Imac. Is this not possible or am I missing something? They are connected by ethernet ports but my broadband is by adsl speedtouch modem.
    OSX3.9 on both machines

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Go to  Apple Menu > System Preferences... > Sharing > Internet tab.
    Now check the
"Share your connection from: Speedtouch Modem
    To computers using:
    Built-in Ethernet.".
    Then click the "Start" button.
I used to do this but to my Powerbook using Airport. I assume that the Speedtouch connects via USB and has it's own driver installed?
    kind regards

  • My macbook 4.1 is version 10.5.8....i would like to purchase the new os but my mac will not allow me to update to 10.6.8 Why is that?

please help me figure out how to get this mac updated so I can purchase OS X LION

If your processor is PowerPC instead of Intel, you cannot upgrade beyond Leopard (10.5).
If it is Intel, you cannot download SL, but must buy a DVD from 1-800-MY-APPLE for $19.  Same number can be used after SL is installed to buy a download code to be used in App Store to download Lion.
SL requires 1 GB RAM, though more is better.
Lion Requires Core2Duo processor and 2 GB RAM, though more RAM is much better.

  • My wife's e mac will not allow us to upgrade to tiger using Tiger dvd

Help please any suggestions on how I can get the Tiger family pack upgrade to up load to my E mac. I have tried several times. It starts going through the download process (20 min or so ) and then at the last minuet a prompt pops up saying there was a problem. Just to make sure disk worked I succesfully upgraded my powerbook no problem.

    Pato:
Thanks for posting back with updated information.
At 256 MB of RAM your computer barely meets the the minimum system requirements for Tiger. Although that should not necessarily cause the install issue you are experiencing, it could be a factor. Your eMac will accomodate 2 - PC2700 DDR333 184-pin SDRAM for a maximum of 1 GB total. I recommend that you put in at least one 512 MB module. If there are 2 128 modules, you will have to remove one. That will bring you up to 640 MB of RAM.
    In terms of installation,
What installation option are you using? e.g. erase and install, archive and install etc.
Do you have an up-to-date backup of your eMac?
Do you have a lot of data and/or third-party software to backup?
Please post back with information requested, as well as any other questions or comments.
    Good luck.

  • My mac will not allow me to run my itunes software update?

My macbook air will not allow me to run my software update for itunes. It will go through the entire process until the last step and then say that it is not supported. Any help or advice???

Try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
Note that Reader XI is not officially supported on Vista; Reader X (10.1.10) is the latest Reader version for Vista.

  • My Mac will not "log out".  what do I need to do

My Mac will not allow me to "log out". What should I do?

    Greetings,
What happens when you attempt to go to Apple Menu > Log out?
Assuming you are running Mac OS X 10.6.7:
    Backup your data: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553
    SafeBoot your computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
Login to your normal Admin account while in SafeBoot
Download and install the 10.6.7 combo while in SafeBoot: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1361
Restart the computer as normal and then see if you can logout.
    Hope that helps.

  • AirPort Express loses network and will not reconnect

    Hi all,
I've seen several postings about similar issues but I'm not sure if mine has an answer or not. I have owned and used an Airport Express (A1084) for a number of years and it's always worked flawlessly. I recently acquired a second one and moved my original one up one floor to extend my G network and stream music to a different room. Now the Airport will lose its connection to the network every few days and then just blink amber until the power is cut off to the unit. It seems to always reconnect with no issue after the power has been shut off for a second. It has not moved that far away from it's original location and it is not placed even close to the effective range of the main wireless router, so I don't believe that incoming signal loss is the problem.
All the settings on the Express are the same as they have been for years, so the only variables are the addition of the new Airport Express, which I don't have set up to accept wireless connections, and the new location of the device.
Does anyone have some suggestions on a direction to go to trouble shoot this problem?

You need to remember that most newer routers sold in the last 3-4 years allow their users to "hide" their network. In other words, the network is operating but your computer, or one of the commonly used utilities used to scan and display other networks likely will not be able to "see" these networks.
In general, you should probably assume there are twice as many networks as your utility can "see" and since you can't see them, there's no way to know what channels they are using. So, it becomes a process of experimentation to try to find a a good channel for your wireless network.
It's not just your cordless phone that can cause potential problems for your network. My neighbor....across the street...could drop the speed on my wireless to a crawl if he was in his front yard talking on his cordless phone. Again, there's not much you can do about this, except to know that there are far more forms of interference than most users ever imagine.
Since most cordless phones operate at the 2.4 GHz frequency, same as your wireless network, you may be encountering some of the difficulties that I have with the neighbors cordless phones at least 100 feet away.
I solved my issues by using 5 GHz wireless as there are for the moment, much fewer networks using this frequency band. You may need to look at that possibility as well if your problems continue.

  • When I replaced my PC desktop with a Mac Mini and hooked up my HP printer to it, I discovered my other computers on the Wi-Fi network could no longer access the printer.  The manual says Maverick OS will not allow PC's to access the printer. Any thoughts?

When I replaced my PC desktop with a Mac Mini and hooked up my HP printer to it, I discovered that my other computers on the Wi-Fi network could no longer access the printer.  The manual says Maverick OS will not allow PC's to share the printer. Does anyone else have this problem?  My printer does not have on-board Wi-Fi but, otherwise, works fine.  I shouldn't have to buy a new one.  Is there a OS patch out there that would open the printer port for my PC computers?

I'm assuming that on the Mac, the System Preferences -> Sharing -> Printer Sharing -> [X] HP printer -> Everyone can print is selected?  That is to say, the Mac will allow anyone to print using the printer, and that you did not try to restrict who can print.
How is your network configured?  Bonjour as a protocol will NOT cross a router boundary.  If you have 2 or more subnets active with the PCs on one subnet and the Mac on another, that would block the PCs from seeing the Mac.
You could have multiple subnets if you have more than one router, such as an ISP provided broadband modem/router and another WiFi Router.  If the PCs are talking to one router and the Mac is talking to another, that could be a 2 subnet situation.  The additional routers must be put into bridge mode, which is done differently depending on the router.  But the basics are to diable DHCP and NAT services on the secondary router(s) having just one active router on the network.
Also, using Bonjour Browser on my Mac, it is showing me that the printer is being advertised as using Internet Printing Protocol, so if that is something selectable on Windows, maybe you can bypass Bonjour on Windows.

Have you tried any of these soundcards designed for 2.0?
The 3.0 port is categorically designed to be comoatible with all 2.0 devices. The port itself will adapt to the usage parameters of the device.
But if you really want to downgrade, then simply plug any 2.0 hub into a MBA 3.0 port. The ports on the hub will be 2.0.

  • Airport Express/Mac work fine, Vista PC sees network, but will not connect

I have been working on this for two days. What can I do? I have the latest firmware on the airport express and my utilities are up to date on both PC and Vista (airport s/w ver 5.3.2). It all worked before. Also, my brother wireless printer sees network, but will not connect.

I have a similar issue. I have an AP Express set up for WPA2 Personal, G only. My Mac mini connects fine. My Dell mini9 with XP connects fine. My Dell desktop with Vista64 connects fine, but is local only, no internet.
I have completely reset the AP to factory settings and reconfigured it using the Vista machine, but still no luck. What is going on? Anyone?
