10.4.8 - and now the remote doesn't work

I downloaded the 10.4.8 update via Software Update and then restarted the machine. It had a few false starts when starting-up, seeming to sleep before starting again, but then it worked fine. I repaired permissions and everything seemed to be working until I tried to use the remote.
The remote is transmitting a signal, I can see the light in Photo Booth, but none of the buttons on the remote have any effect.
I've run MacJanitor and repaired permissions again, but no change.
Any ideas? The remote has been one of my favourite parts of this iMac in the 10 days I've had it!
I've also noticed that the Mighty Mouse scrolls faster downwards since the update. Not a problem per se, but it can seem a little too fast.

I've solved the problem by downloading the combo update from the Apple site. After installing that, the remote works once more

The iTunes icon and cable means that it's gone into recovery mode - you will need to connect the phone to your computer's iTunes and you should be able to use that to reset the phone, and you can then restore/resync your content to it

Have you checked to make sure the batteries are inserted the correct way? Have you tried to turn it on by pushing the right upper (round) edge of the keyboard - if you do that, do you see a tiny little green light? Since you have a wired keyboard, can you get to the Bluetooth setup/preference pane so you can manually try to sync the keyboard?

I stupidly tried opening up my iPhone 5s to clean the rear camera a few weeks ago. In doing so I tore one of the cables on the display and it stopped working, as did the home button. I had to take it to a local shop where I was charged £100 for the screen repair and a new home button (I was told that the fingerprint scanner would no longer work).
Long story short, I took the phone back the next day because I couldn't hear anything through the earpiece, but the speaker was working. The guy did something to do my phone and fixed it temporarily, now about 3 weeks later it still isn't working.
I would take it back to the same shop and complain, but I will probably get the same shoddy service. I really regret not taking it to the apple store in the first place as it probably wouldn't have been much more expensive. What are my options?

Since everything you did voided your warranty, Apple will at best charge you the out of warranty replacement fee, and offer you a refurbished iPhone of same specs as your own.
You'll need to take it in and discuss your options with them directly if they wish to offer you any.

Dropped my phone in water and now the camera doesn't work, any ideas why its' the only thing not working

I somehow knocked my iphone 4s in the sink of water and everything seems to work except the camera. Is there a way to reinstall the software or does anyone know what I can do other than using phone protection insurance? All my pictures are there and they upload and share but just can't get the camera to take pictures.

The device is damage, it was dropped in water. You are lucky that the device works at all.

I recently updated to the OS X Maverick and the keyboard just stopped functioning after working fine the first day. Pressing any key just produces a ding, but no mark. Pressing the return key produces a black dot as if you were putting in a confidential password. Has anyone had a similar problem and a possible solution? Thanks. mj-t

I am having the same problem and its not on every call, its very hit or miss, but very aggrovating. The screen just goes black and the home key nor the power button on top have any affect. Then the locked screen will show but you can't unlock the phone. I have to let it sit for a minute and then I can push the home button and go on in and the call is finally disconnected.

I updatet my iPhone 4 to ios 6.1 and now the internet doesn´t work..

^^ that's the main problem. Here's the full history.
I bought a new 13" i5 MBP, early 2011 edition. I had an old white Macbook 2.14 ghz core2duo on Snow Leopard. I attempted to port over my time machine backup, but encountered problems in that my User was inaccessible from the new computer after the import finished, and I had to go in and change the root password, etc, and for some reason or another, I couldn't install any programs at all from that administrator's account. By "couldn't" I mean I could install them, but upon installation they would never boot. So, I took it to the apple store and did a clean install from the most up to date Lion OSX. Then, I created a brand new admin account, instead of trying to import the old one, and things seemed great. Then, I just imported my old files from the TM backup, but not any system settings, permissions, or user data. Just my Docs, pics, vids, apps, and itunes stuff.
Here's where things get weird again. I imported this stuff under the name "old", but all of these folders have a red negative sign on them, marking them as restricted. So, from my main admin account, I cannot even peruse these folders. Since I didn't import user data, I can't sign in to the "old" account to change permissions. I already tried to change the permissions from system preferences, but that didn't change anything. And now, for whatever reason, of all the apps that were imported then, MS Office is the only set of apps that does not work. When I click on it, it just says there was a problem and asks if I'd like to send a report to apple. I tried reinstalling it to no avail. I'm an English student, so i really need access to Word. Can anyone help? The Apple store is a major detour for me and would like to fix this issue myself.

Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

What version of the OS X are you running? Go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac and report the Version back here.

Have you tried to go into bluetooth and telling it to forget your keyboard?
Drastic but might enable you to repair the devices and see if it clears up the glitch.
I had a period of time when my iPad always sensed and used my bluetooth keyboard. I think it finally went away after I powered down the iPad. (not just a put to sleep, a bonafide 'slide the red slider to shut it down' powering down.

I've tried it but since I'm using a USB disk drive it keeps freezing up or showing you a folder blinking folder with a question mark. (?). When I start the mac up I hold the control button until the Mac OS install disk shows up. My hard drive doesn't show up anymore. I have no idea what may have caused your MacBook to stop working, but from your description it kind of sounds like it may have started before you ran Software Update and installed the new Apps. Just the general slow feeling and bugginess is what tips me off. You said that you weren't sure if you had closed all open windows, that doesn't matter if the computer restarts itself. It automatically closes all other open applications when restarting.
As to your data being retrievable, if when you take it in they do a fresh install of the OS, then no, it will not be unless you want to pay several thousand dollars to a software retrieval company.
I am glad to hear that you have taken into the Apple Store to get it fixed, and that you have all of your purchased music backed up to your iPod. You should be able to just transfer it all back to iTunes once you get your computer back should it be necessary.
As a side note, the proper place for this topic would probably in the MacBook forums, not iTunes since there is no evidence that iTunes started the issue.

I used disk permission repair to try to resolve this as well as a 'soft' restart. Still have a grayed-out mute checkbox in the sound section of system preferences.
