10.4.8 Security Update broke my network

After installing the 10.4.8 security update on my iMac G5 with an Airport Extreme card I have all sorts of issues.
1. I can no longer see my AEBS in Airport admin but if I click the other button I can access it by IP address.
2. The three other Airport Express stations intermittently show up and then disappear.
3. I can no longer print to the printer attached to the AEBS
4. My network no longer connects automatically
Strangely enough, I can still access the Internet through it so it clearly knows its there, just won't connect to it or see it through the admin tools. If I use my Powerbook G4 that I haven't updated yet, I can still see them all so I know they are all ok still. I didn't change any of my settings so how can this have all gone so horribly wrong?

yes, thank you this exactly solved my problem.  It also provided an added bonus of an easy way to restore my previous music which had gone missing.
After the update installed, I was given the option to have itunes search my mac for music files.  To my pleasant surprise, this option was better than I had imagined as it found all my music, voice recordings, podcasts, books and apps.  These all went missing prior to this fix due to the previous failed update.  Now I have all my music restored plus some additional sounds and bits that I hadn't seen before.  Nice!

  • Security update broke Citrix

I use Citrix to access my office network, and have been using the latest version (10.00.6) since it was launched a week or so ago. Today I installed the new Leopard security updates on my MacBook, and now Citrix won't work - I get an error message "Error in connection file "users/(me)/Library/Preferences/Citrix ICA Client/Modules": Cannot find section "ClientManagement". Error number 11
I tried reinstalling Citrix (twice), but it's still broken. I have not updated my G5 with the security update, and Citrix (same version) still works fine on that. Anyone have any ideas? Apple? Thanks!

I got the exact same error when I installed the newest version of the Citrix client. I ended up fixing it by going into ~/Library/Preferences/Citrix ICA Client, then renaming the "Modules" file. Then I reinstalled the Citrix client and it fixed my problem. Hope this helps.

  • Security update broke my WiFi

Just installed the latest security update (2008-6) via software update (on my iBook) and now I can't access my WiFi. My network is visible but then I try and connect I get the message that the password is incorrect. I've re-entered the password using Internet Connect then it tells me there's an error connecting to the network. The password in the keychain is correct. I've tried to create a new 802.1X connection from Internet Connect but this option is grayed out.
    Please help
    Many thanks

I had the same problem on my iMac G5 this morning. I was able to fix it using some advice in a discussion thread "Network Preference Pane Gone Berserk after Latest Security Update (Tiger)" from tonza. There is a message posted Sept 20 at 2:05 AM that recommends removing some preference files and recreating the network configuration. That worked for me and my WiFi came back immediately. I didn't have all of the problems discussed in this thread. You probably ought to read some of the other messages to convince yourself that this is the problem that you are seeing.
I had a recent backup that I could boot off of or I would have never found this. Make a backup first!
    Good luck!!

  • Feb 26 security update broke Mail

I just installed Apple's latest security update. I am running Mountain Lion 10.8.5 on a 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 18GB memory.
Right after this update was installed, my Mail.app broke - I can no longer send or receive email. I have tinkered with the smtp settings (shut off SSL) and gotten the outgoing mail to go, but still cannot receive any incoming mail.
Is anyone else having this problem?? I have tried inputting the actual IP address of our mail server instead of using "mailserver.xxx.local", to no avail.
Mail's Connection Doctor doesn't report a problem (now), but still have not received any mail since before the update, even though I have specifically had other people send me an email to test it.
At my wit's end here ...

Whew … after a lot of head-scratching and button-clicking, I have discovered the answer: deselect the Use SSL option. Although it would seem to be safer to have that turned on, apparently the update changed how that was handled. Off it goes.

  • HELP!!!! Mail not sending nor receiving...Security Update broke it?

So i had a perfectly working set-up for mail and calendar on Mac OS X 10.6.3, but this weekend it stopped working. Mail is not getting in nor out of my system. I can not even send mail to myself. When I look into the logs i see the following errors..

If not intentional, consider enabling it by setting: $enabledkimverification to 1, or explicitly disable it by setting it to 0 to quench down this warning.
It is NOT grey listing as i have long since fixed that. Any help out there? I have NO email right now, so this is a MAJOR issue. We installed the security update over the weekend. I am pointing toward that as the issue?

Ok I have fixed the ability to send. The console said that root wasn't owner of "amavisd.conf" .. i used the sudo chown.. and now I can send to external addresses & internal addresses and receive internal to my network. Mail is still not coming in from EXTERNAL addresses. help?

  • April 2010 Security Update broke javascript in 3D.

I just filed this bug report with Adobe.  This is a serious problem which will impact anyone using the PDF 3D scripting APIs.
    ******BUG******
    Concise problem statement:
There is a bug introduced in the April 2010 security patch.  This bug is in Reader 8, Reader 9, Acrobat Pro 9.  This bug is on Windows and Mac. The problem is that Javascript within a 3D element is not run when the element is first activated.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Download this PDF: http://kaontest.s3.amazonaws.com/MedSupplies3D.pdf
    2. Open it in any up-to-date Adobe Reader / Adobe Acrobat product
    Results:
The 3D element is active, but the Javascript that makes it work does not run. To see what it should look like, right-click the orange box, and select "Disable 3D".  Then right click again and select "Enable 3D."
    Expected results:
The javascript should run at document load time, without user intervention.
I expect that this bug report is in a giant heap of web bug reports that will be looked in to "eventually."  Does anyone here know of a way to raise the awareness of the 3D PDF team inside Adobe about this problem?  It's a major regression for a "security update."
(We have developed a work-around, which is to use document-level javascript to enable/disable/enable the 3D content at initialization time.  However, this is a pretty ugly hack, and it requires modifying PDFs which have been working fine for many years, which is an untenable situation for some of our customers who have literally HUNDREDS of 3D PDFs in their repositories.)
    -Joshua Smith
    Kaon Interactive

I've actually been through this before with Adobe, when I proved to the bug-handling engineer, over a painfully long period of time, that the 3D rendering engine inside PDF does not sort triangles, and therefore cannot render alpha correctly.  That experience has taught me to let Adobe drive the process, since every bit of initiative I took in that case was wasted effort.
And what was the result? Did they fix it after all (at their pace, not yours, but eventually)?
Does http://www.iaas.msu.ru/tmp/u3d/surf_alpha.pdf have the problem you mention above or we are talking about something else?
... your simple PDF ... doesn't work in Reader 8 on the Mac, by the way
It is not supposed to, it uses the "latest and greatest" version of PRC format, support of it appeared in Acrobat/Reader 9.
And the positive point (for me) is that paid-for, developer-level support from Adobe (that I lack) is not that good.
    Thank you.

  • After security update INTEL Macs network transfer speed slows

MBP C2D and iMac CD transfer speed between them is close to "b" speed after the update. I tried transfer to my G4 that has a G card and it was same speed for both INTEL Macs. Grabbed another G4 laptop with G card and the transfer speeds between those two were at "g" speeds. All 4 machines connected using Apple Express wireless router.
Changed AE router to 5.5 and higher multicast. No affect. Changed channels to 11 and others and back to Automatic, no change in speed.
Cleaned out cache on all INTEL Macs, same "b" speed. Despite all these adjustments the PB G4 wit the "g" cards continued to transfer at "g" speeds, whil the INTEL Macs are stuck at "b" speeds.
I suppose I can do Archive and Install on the MBP and not apply the latest security patch to see if that may be it. But I'm hoping someone has done this already and post their results. If not I'll try it in a bit.

  • Systemd update broke my network because I don't have ipv6

I use a custom 4.0 kernel and I don't have ipv6 compiled into it because I don't use it.  This worked fine in systemd 218 but with 219 systemd-networkd throws a hissy fit and refuses to bring up my network interface at all.  Luckily I still have the Arch kernel installed so I was able to boot into that to use the network.  This is also how I know for sure it's because of my kernel configuration.  Is there any workaround for this?

It will probably take some time until the devs get around to it.
Yea that's the same bug I'm running into.  I don't suppose making an account to add a "me too" would help anything.  Thanks for the find though.  Saved me from writing a duplicate report.
R00KIE wrote:If one is using static ip configuration dhcp=ip4 doesn't help and IPForward=ipv4 is an unrelated setting.
And yea I'm using static IP.  Looks like systemd-networkd is a lost cause until they fix it.

  • G4 won't boot after last Security Update

I have an AGP G4 tower that's been running 10.4.11 fine until today. The last thing I did was Software Update. The only things on the list were an iLife update and a Security Update. I don't know the update number but since I always keep the system updated, I can only assume these two updates were the latest available.
So after the update... I hit the "restart" button but then I get the grey screen with a prohibitory sign and a spinning wheel.
It's not a hardware issue... I can reboot this machine into an alternate hard drive just fine.
    I fixed permissions.
I ran disk utility - hard disk checked out ok.
Still can't boot using this drive.
Obviously this last security update broke my system folder because it's as if it can't find a valid system.
So now the question is, what can I do to fix my system folder?
    Thank-you.

    Simple fix.
I downloaded and installed the 10.4.11 Combo Update onto original drive while booted into the alternate drive. I then downloaded and installed the Security Update 2008-0001 onto the original drive. As a precaution I repaired permissions on the original drive.
    Successfully booted into original drive.

  • Security Update

There was a security update that my network administrators announced today for the QuickTime for Windows product. Unfortunately, there's an issue (read: network administrators) completing the automatic update within the QuickTime program. I believe they have it blocked.
Regardless, there is a download available, but it is a .dmg file. First, let me point out that dmg sounds much like an abbreviation for the word "Damage" and I would have thought the programmers might have found a better name for a beneficial file extension.
Regardless, Windows (obviously) doesn't know how to process a *.dmg. I haven't been able to locate anything on updating my QuickTime product in Windows from a .dmg file. I wonder if I could get some assistance in processing this file to update my program?
    Apple web-designers:
Would you consider adding a very obvious area for those of us who run into update issues? This one is akin to being unable to connect to your servers to implement the auto-updates.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Jacumba,
I mean no disrespect, but we're not asking anyone for his/her opinion on whether to run windows or Mac. It's obvious that you prefer Mac - so do I. However, at this point in time, Microsoft is what I use and it is what my company uses and it holds about 91% of the marketshare. Meaning, if you walk through any computer aisle/section, you will find that 91% of the items avaiable on the shelves are Microsoft/Windows, not Mac, not Unix. Whether we like one system or another is not in question.
I'm looking for assistance from Apple/Mac to fix an issue they just reported note after the release of the 7.1.3 version of Quicktime.
Since it has been pointed out that there is no fix for Windows at this time, and the updater has been known to present an issue or two within a Windows environment - I'll just follow the recommended procedure of uninstalling it and try to keep up to date on the info put out by the people who promote this item. Perhaps they will have a Windows patch available within the month of February.
Oh, and as a side note - you may want to consider this: When you tout the wonders of Mac's security, realize that the main reason, if not the ONLY reason it is "so secure" is that it isn't the most popular item. Windows is (again) the OS in 91% of the systems. Many more peole are going to have classified and personal information in Windows. So, if you are an unethical person, and you are trying to get some dirt, a bank account, etc... are you going to spend all that time hacking a system made exclusively for beginning computer users and ignorant people?
Apple is the easiest computer to operate - that's it's grace. So how many people are going to be financially secure or wealthy if they can't understand how to operate in the Windows world you live in today? Why waste all that time, hack into Windows - more accounts to pilfer that way.
Studies show that 75% of all statistics are faked.
    LOL

  • Unable to see PC's on network after Security Update 2008-005

I just updated our Tiger server with the latest security update 2008-005 and now none of the PC's can see the Workgroup or the server. In addition, the Macs can no longer see the PC's on the network. The PC's can connect to other computers if it was previously mapped. However if we try to connect to the Workgroup, it is denied. Previously one PC's with the Windows Firewall turned on blocked all the PC's from seeing the Workgroup however it did not block Macs. This time viewing PC's is blocked completely and there are no PC's windows firewalls running. The macs can still see other macs and the servers (all Xserve's).

Issue resolved. It had nothing to do with the update. When I restarted the server it chose an NT computer on the network as the Master Browser. The resolution was to turn off the NT computer, restart the computer and let it pick up one of the 2000 or XP computers as the Master Browser. That worked.

  • Lost airport network share and print access - security update?

Roughly around the time I installed the last security update to my 10.3.9 iBook I lost Airport 802.11b access to printing services, afp and smb shares.
I still have internet services (email and web).
If I connect via fixed ethernet everything works.
    Any suggestions?

I fixed this, but I can't remember the full details. Sorry! I just wanted to mention there was a fix. I think I somehow tricked the system into forgetting all prior access and I rejoined the network.

  • Security Update 2006-001 Killed network preferences

After upgrading with the 2006-001 Security Update, none of my network preferences will set up correctly anymore. DHCP doesn't seem to be doing anything, and when I tell it to use a manual address via the system preferences, it appears that it's not actually doing anything. Mac OS System Preferences will not even detect that I have an ethernet cable plugged in, though if I use ifconfig and route I can get a LITTLE bit of traffic to go out, so I know it's connected and working.
Any one have any ideas on this? Absolutely frustrating because I can no longer work until this is fixed (sitting in an internet cafe trying to figure out what the problem is). I'm running 10.3.9 on a 1.2Ghz 12" Powerbook. I don't remember my Unix days well enough to try to manually set up routes and our DNS settings, nor do I know if the appropriate tools are in Mac OS, but the Apple network preferences are clearly busted.
Is there anyway to uninstall an update?

    12" 1.2 Ghz PB   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I had the same Network & Airport issue after installing Security Update 2006-001 on my wife's iBook G3 running 10.3.9 Trying to access our Airport base station wirelessly would inevitably hang as I selected the Airport network.
I noticed that every time I shut down the computer there was a brief showing of the keychain window asking to allow keychain access...this right as the computer went down (no chance to hit the allow button).
Spent the better part of an entire afternoon trying to fix this problem. Then read all the posts here (amazing how many people have problems with this update). Tried to reset permissions - didn't work. In the end, I rebooted the Airport...went into the Airport Admin Utility with my PowerBook to fiddle around...removed our Airport network from the keychain in my wife's iBook...explored other aspects via the keychain access utility.
None of that seemed to work. I also figure I reset the permissions about half a dozen times (with subsequent reboot). None of that was working either...until after one permissions reset & reboot things came good. I got the keychain window, allowed access, and hey presto...online. So far it's been OK for over 12 hours (including after reboot).
    What exactly worked? I don't know. "It's a mystery".
One thing's for sure...this update is not going on any of my other machines!
Come on Apple...surely you can do better than send us automatic updates that break our computers and sap our time!

  • After security update no automated connection to preferred networks anymore

After installing the new security update 10.5.8 from today, my MacBook Pro does not automatically connect to my preferred networks (airport) anymore. They still exist and are running. So when manually connecting (typing in the network SSID and password) it works.
    Can anybody help to either:
    # help fix the bug in this security update or
    # explain how to uninstall a security update.
    Thanks a lot,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
you might find a cure here :
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8120804#8120804
it worked for me ( I already had this with 10.4 and recently with 10.5 too).
Both time the cure was to trash the pref.plist as pointed in the above link

  • After latest security update cannot access my wired network

After the latest security update on my MBP.... no longer can access wired network on laptop.  Desktop did not update.... can still access wired network.
Anyone have a fix for the updated MBP?
    Thank,
    Reed

Is it all applications that these keys don't work?
Also is it a wired keyboard or bluetooth keyboard, either keyboard i'd suggest starting with resetting SMC (helps USB) and PRAM (helps Bluetooth)
    Reset SMC
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    Reset PRAM
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If it's a USB keyboard i'd suggest trying a different USB port and restarting the computer, for a bluetooth keyboard i'd suggest removing the keyboard from Bluetooth Preferences and repairing the keyboard.
