10.4.9: Networkproblem

hi there. i've updated to 10.4.9 yesterday via the combo updater and repaired permissions in advance. Everything worked like a charm. But after i switched on my computer todays morning i was unable to connect to the net via ethernet. first thought it would be the routers fault. but i am still able to connect to the net via wlan on my powerbook with 10.4.8 (havent installed the update there yet – its my production computer).
took a look into the network pane now. strange thing is in my active profile i have not only the regulare "ethernet (integrated)". instead "ethernet (integrated) 6" and 2 " ethernet–adapter((null))" shows up. if i try to delete one of the "ethernet-adapter((null)" adapter it hasnt any effect and there are 3 instead of 2 afterwards. one new is created. also creating a new environment hasnt helped. again 1 "ethernet (integrated) 6" and 2 " ethernet–adapter((null))" showed up. in the next step . i let run apple jack to take care if maybe some corrupted cache or plist files were responsible for the mess. but nothing changed. still many adapters ((null)) inside my active environment. well and the last strange thing is. when i update the dhcp-lease in "ethernet (integrated) 6" the network pane switches to one of the ((null)) adapters and shows the proper ip adress assigned by my router. well network access works again. but the whole environment is a mess. anyone has any idea how to fix that pretty ugly issue? thanks in advance ralf

a small add on. i started up my computer meanwhile in
secure mode. there i was able to delete all surplus
adapters in the network pane and renamed the last
remaining adapter into "ethernet(integrated)". but
after the restart, when i go into the network pane
osx tells me a new ethernet adapter was found. and
instantly a ethernet-adapter ((null)) appears as
active adapter in the list and "ethernet(integrated)"
is renamed to "ethernet(integrated)1" .
Hi Ralf,
is it safe to assume that you are talking about the Power Mac G4 Sawtooth with the processor upgrade card?
G4 Sawtooth spiced up with Giga Design 1,4 GHZ upgradecard.
If YES you might be out of luck as Apple states since MOSX 10.4 - quote: "Mac OS X does not support processor upgrade cards" (see for yourself at http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/requirements.html)
Try removing the processor ugprade.
Or try messing with the "ifconfig" Unix command in Terminal - but this is hard co errh work and not for the faint of the heart.

Imac looses Ethernet Connection

The Problem:
We have now 3 imacs with ML 10.7/8 who started to get Networkproblems since 2 weeks.
When you start the imac, you could work for 5-10 Minutes, and then you have no connection to the network.
No error Messages appear. You must reboot the Computer and then you could work for 5 Minutes.
The only thing i saw at the console is that the interface following messages:
kernel: en0: promiscous mode enable failed.
and then same message with promiscous mode enabled
These Macs worked since 1 Year ´without Problems.
We have same imacs with ML 7/8 on the same switch in the same vlan without any probs.
The Environment:
The macs are connected via Kat 5/6 cable to a switched Network with vlans.
What we tested:
We changed, the cable, the port, the switch, put the computers to another location.
We changed from DHCP to Static IP.
No Result!!
What we noticed:
if you start the imac in save mode, you could work, but this is no solution because paralles did not work.
Put the mac in another vlan it works. But in the origin vlan there are no errors or problems, other macs with the same configuration works without any probs.
Any Solution ?

First update OS X to 10.8.4, the restart the modem and router. If the router has een used for a few years then check to see if it has the most up-to-date firmware.

Update ios5 problem

I cant load the iOS 5 update on my iPhone 3GS.
After 368MB it stop with Message "networkproblem - runtime Error .... Try it later"
I did it now many Times.
The update on my iPhone 4 went well.
What can I do?

i waited until late at night to update my 2 phones, had no issues what-so-ever. I think it is the large volume of folks trying to update, jamming the Apple servers

EP Insttalation Problem

I am trying to re-install the EP on my machine. While I am clicking on sapinst.exe i am getting the below mentioned error.
1. guiengine: call to bind() for socket 1828 failed. No such file or directory
ERROR      2006-04-10 19:58:01 [iaxxgenimp.cpp:532]
           init()
FGE-00006 Attempt to open a communication port connection failed. Check whether the port 21212 is already in use.
ERROR      2006-04-10 19:58:01
FCO-00034 An error occurred during the installation. Problem: error in GUI server subsystem.
Exit status of child: 1
Pls let me know how to recover from this error.

I can see in you error message that it could be some networkproblem.
Have you checked the port 21212? It could be that another software is using that port.. Or you have blocked it?
Look up that port ans se if it is open and free in the network settings in your operating system.
Or you can follow this thread Re: Error when installing Preview System
and replace localhost" by "127.0.0.1". It looks that is solved the issue.
If not thats the proble, please come back for further information.

Looking for firmware 7.1

I'm looking for firmware 7.1 for the Airport Extreme.
It seems that my networkproblems started when I updated my firmware...this is where it all goes wrong.
Trying to check out where the problem really lies I want to re-install firmware 7.1. Unfortunately I cant seem to find it in download anywhere. Does anyone know where I can download it (preferabely a link).

Help.   New Mac Mini, migration, networking

Hi All,
I had a 2009 Mac Mini that was networked over wifi with my three other computers. I just purchased a new 2011 Mac Mini to replace it.
I hooked the new mac mini up to a TV and it said it could not run setup assistant while connected to this TV so it automatically created a user called "administrator".
I then took it to the Genius bar.   I wanted to get this user called "administrator" deleted and to migrate my own user (called MacMiniAnna).   They did migrate my user information using migration assistant and they did delete the user called administrator however...
When I try to network to the new Mac Mini it is still called "administrator's Mac Mini"   I want it to be named "Anna's Mac Mini"
And even though I went to the Mac Mini and turn file sharing ON for my entire home folder and said that everyone could read and write, I am not able to network to this computer from the other computers.

I feel that I can fix this whole thing if I can get the mac mini back to the state it was when I opened the box.   And then start all over, migrate my old data without creating this "administrator" account first.     Does anyone know how to just get the Mac Mini back to the original out of the box state?

Downloading WindowsSupport on MiniMac2011 not possible

My MiniMac 2011 (with Lion) just arrived. Software upgrade and after that I have install Windows 7 with Bootcamp.
Only the WindowsSupport downloaing is not possible. The error says something about a networkproblem, but I have a good networkconnection and access to internet
