10.4.9 stole my music

Oh dear...
Repaired permissions before updating.... all seemed to be ok until on reboot it hung on the Apple logo and that little swirly thing in the middle of the screen going 'round for 35 minutes - until I reached for the power button.
Reboot was then successful but alas - my iTunes library of 10,000+ (legal!) songs was no more. Gutted is not the word. I HAD a backup on my iPod until that broke just after Christmas...
Anyway - Imagine my dismay when itunes loads and it was empty. My music folder where all my music was kept - empty... Three folders are in the trash (labled Recovered Files, Recovered files #2, Recovered Files #3) but the contents there relate to attachments from Mail?!?! Crazy....
Everything else seems intact.... Luckily.
Anyone got any suggestions where it might have gone? Anyone else had this happen? This MacBook Pro has been nothing but a headache since I got it...
A disgruntled Jay...

That is a good suggestion for those I have purchased in that manner... thank you
Unfortunately a lot are from my original CDs - a lot of which I don't have any more And some aren't even music but audio tracks. I don't know if they could still be on my hard drive somewhere... Ya hear stories about "files aren't really deleted" on the news etc... I wonder if Norton might get them back....

  • IOS 4 stole my music?

I just updated my second generation iPod touch to iOS 4 and now am missing about 50 songs that I purchased on my iPod. The songs are not in my iTunes library either. It looked as though the update backed up all the data on my iPod before it removed it....where can I find these songs???
Are they saved somewhere on my computer? Thanks!

The backup does not include your music.
You updated without syncing your ipod first?
You should always sync your music back to your computer ( then backup to you external drive or wherever you keep your backup) as often as possible.
You only get one download, but you can try e-mailing itunes support to see if they will make an exception.

  • Where is my music on the cloud

The cloud stole my music. I was logged into itunes and this little cloud symbol appeared beside most of my music, then all those songs disappeared. I have looked at "my cloud" but I am not computer savvy and cannot find anything to do with music on there. It is an expensive amount of music. Where can I find it? Someone please help!

There is no iCloud app or icon on your phone.  iCloud is enabled and configured in your settings, but you access your iCloud data through the apps you are syncing with iCloud.  iCloud contacts are accessed through the Contacts app on your phone, Mail through the Mail app, Reminders through the Reminders app, etc.
You can also access some of this data on icloud.com from a computer.  You can't, however, access icloud.com from your phone.

  • ITunes widget(s) do not acknowledge iTunes

Even thought I am running iTunes, my dashboard widget does not agree "iTunes not open." I've quit, restarted and tried other widgets. No luck.
    Any ideas?

I'm having the same exact problem on my Mac.  I first noticed this after Christmas.  It's like the Grinch stole my music.  When I tried to go back to playing non-holiday music only five of my forty My Stations still worked.  I clicked on a station, it very briefly looked like it was going to load then nothing.  So I removed all the non working stations and added a few back and still nothing. I rebooted the computer but that made no difference.  Over the holidays I had added some screen savers from the app store and removed them as well to see if they had some effect and still nothing.  I then tried adding two My Stations to my iPhone and they played on my phone without any problems.  Now at home I tried the stations that was added on my phone and they do not play.  Very frustrating.  My Mac is 10.9.5 and my iTunes is up to date. The NTP Security  update was installed 12/22/14 and I wonder if this is causing the problem.  Hopefully the Apple folks will come up with a fix soon.

  • HT1766 how do i convert songs from my iphone 4 to my itunes library?

I was at a friends house and i noticed that his itunes library was better than mine, so i asked if i could sync my iphone4 to his itunes library, and i did. now i am trying to update my iphone4 to the latest software and it says i should download those onto it.  i woud also like to know if i will lose my apps in this prosess

In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with a single iTunes library only. When you in effect stole this music from your friend's computer, all music that was on your iPhone was erased first.
If any of your friend's music was purchased from the iTunes store, you will need to know your friend's iTunes account and password to authorize your computer with your friend's iTunes account before being able to transfer the music to your iTunes library. iTunes does not support transferring music from an iPhone that was not purchased from the iTunes store.
All iTunes content on your iPhone or that was on your iPhone before it was all erases before syncing your iPhone with your friend's iTunes library should be in your iTunes library on your computer including apps.

  • Lost songs during update

I updated my iTouch software and ended up losing my songs on my iTouch and computer. Fortunitely i didn't lose a major investment. What can i do to get my songs back? They show up as purchased on my account.

This happened to my son. He updated the software, and now all of the music I paid for is gone. I still have emails of the receipts where I paid for the music, but I cannot find any way to get the music I bought back on his ipod. How is this okay, when the music was paid for, and the ipod was only supposed to be doing a software update? I feel as if ipod STOLE the music that I paid for, since their software update seems to require me to pay again for content I already purchased. Hmmmmm. Plus, they want to charge me $30 to talk to them about the music they ripped off, with no guarantee of resolving the issue. Why did I buy this for him?

  • Which ipod for my wife?

I am going to surprise my wife with an ipod for her birthday (I gave her an ibook for Christmas, which she LOVES). I was going to get her a 30GB ipod, but I've heard that women really like the Nano. Is that generally true? She doesn't need the video playback option since she likes to use the ibook for that on trips. Normally I would let her choose one, but she probably would argue that she doesn't need it, so I wanted to go ahead and get one for her.
Also, does there seem to be a preference in color? It seems like white might be easier to keep up with & not get lost.
    Thanks,
    Rob

A white Nano would be perfect. Too, you should have it engraved with something that will stop her in her tracks.
    Perhaps, some whimsical, some not:
"You stole my heart, so I stole some music"
"When I look at you, my heart skips a beat"
"You make me feel 10 ft tall and bulletproof"
"Don't force me to say the 'L' word"
    "Music soothes the savage breast"
"How much love can the human heart hold?"

  • If I deauthorize my stolen ipad, does that mean whoever stole it won"t be able to use the aps, music etc I purchased from Itunes?

If I deauthorize my stolen ipad, does this mean that whoever stole it won't be able to sue the aps, books, music etc that I purchased from Itunes?

You can't deauthorize an iPad. You deauthorize computers. Deauthorizing your computer will do nothing for the iPad. See the following:
What To Do If Your iDevice Is Lost Or Stolen
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • Itunes stole my purchased music

Long story short.... I bought +/- 300 songs on Itunes store over the last year and for some reason sometime I like to re-install a clean fresh Mac OS X (Always the latest one so now its 10.8.4)
Then I go back in itunes to re-download my purchased and I notice that there is only 59 song available in my purchased (its not an hide/unhide issue I try everything either if it was multiple Apple account ID issue but its not)
Of course I still have all my itunes store receipt that prove that I own them but there not in my purchased item, so not available for download again.
And since the people who fill out the .m4a file info like dumb (one exemple: Psycroptic is a Death Metal band listed as a Rock band, ****** me off) I re-write all the info correctly and back them up in my Dropbox where I know it's safe (so far) and easy to manage to download.
For Now I've stop buying music on the itunes store even if I have all my backup receipt and file in dropbox I want to see all my purchased available in my itune store account even if i'll never download them again.
So this is it, buying music is on hold for me until someone fix that problem and I know i'm not the only one i've read a few post about that without getting a proper answer.
              Thanks for your time.
    Clarence

The iTunes in the Cloud re-download service is not a backup service and Apple does not advertise it as such, nor should you rely on it to be a backup. If the copyright owner, which is not Apple, decides to ever remove an item from the iTunes Store for any reason then you lose the ability to re-download from your purchase history. It doesn't matter if the original items you purchased are replaced with the same thing, the items are still different. This is why it is your responsibility to backup your purchases.

You'll be waiting a long time, then. You say you've got a backup of your music on Dropbox, so what's the problem?

  • ITunes stole my money but didn't give me my music

I'm a good person and don't like to rip off the music industry, thus using itunes to actually buy my music.
Last night I made a number of purchases. Some were waiting to be downloaded when suddenly my laptop crashed. When it recovered it didn't keep downloading the files like it usually did.
I have been billed for the music but I haven't got it. How can I get the music that I paid for? What should I do?
    thanks

    Thankyou very much

  • ITunes stole the rights to my music

When I ripped all of my cd collection to my computer, I did it through iTunes simply because it's faster and easier than WMP.
Unfortunately, iTunes ripped all of my music as m4a AAC files.
I wouldn't mind this because it's one of the best audio codecs around, but...
I cannot load these files onto Windows Media Player. Which means I cannot use the Media Server feature to wirelessly transfer audio files to my Playstation 3.
The music I purchased is now limited in its uses because of iTunes.
Is there any way to circumvent this?

You can add the proper codec to WMP to get it to read & play AAC files.

  • Update stole ALL my music.

Updates have never gone as far as to take my music, it restored my photos but reset the rest of my ipod all my apps, videos, and music are gone. Everything i have paid for gone, even all the music I got from other sources like CDs or mp3 files. What is the meaning of this, why does this update have to screw with my ipod when all other updates went fine. Over 500 songs from many different sources how am i suppose to get all that back? Doesnt the update automaitcally store all your ipods information so when the update is done the ipod can be restored COMPLETELY? I need help imediately.

Ok... troubleshooting, should i try and use the option restore from back up? or would i run the risk of losing my 4,000+ photos like i lost my videos and music?
Is there any special option that might unlock my information and restore my ipod back to normal? maybe a reboot to a previous date?(like pc) and then never update my ipod again? Anything to get my music back, you dont know how long i have been collecting those songs to lose them all here and now...

  • TS1424 I can no longer purchase music or books. Visa etc up to date. Downloads sign just keeps flashing but not downloading

I have downloaded books and music for two years. Now when I try to the songs do not download. When I press green buy book it goes blank and nothing downloads. My visa is fine and details current. Also when I shut down and next day open up iTunes the same download light is still flashing but nothing downloading. I do not know how to stop or delete this.
    Can anyone help?

Ah yes school boy error there out of frustration and discontent..
My issue is with music/apps/films etc not downloading from iTunes / App Store.
They initially fail and message is displayed stating unable to download / purchase at this time, yet if I retry it says I've already purchased (?) or alternatively I go to the purchased section and there they are waiting with the cloud symbol..
However some items get frozen in the download window and cannot be retried or deleted. Message appears stating to tap to retry, but even if you stole every bath and sink in the uk you'd still not have enough taps.
I post here as the iTunes guys are useless in there 'help' and have only advised posting here or phoning apple, at my expense, to explain a problem that could be rectified by forwarding my original email to a techie. However the tech team apparently don't have an email address as they're from ye olde Middle Ages..!
    Anyways I digress.
So I tried sync to pc, but instead of showing the file as ready to listen/use/view, the iCloud symbol shows and I'm back to square one as the item is unable to download..
At frustration station waiting for a train from pain...
All my software is up to date, and had all worked fine prior to the last big iOS update that resulted in all the changes in display and dismay.

    Much love

  • Fedex stole my phone again

Firs off, sorry, I did not know exactly where to put this topic in.
Okay so, let me tell you this is the second time Fedex has STOLEN my iPhone.
The first time, a few years back, I sent my iphone 4s in to apple because I was having problems with it, well I wait a good while, untill I finally decide to contact apple about my phone, to see if they have shipped it back to me. Well at that time, they said they did ship it.. long story short, it was shipped to me the very next day they received it, somebody at fedex just "lost" my package, so Apple did an investigation and shipped me a new phone, I thank Apple for that!
Okay now, recently I sent them in my sons iPhone for repair, it was a phone I traded one of my cousins for ... it was from sprint, (she got it im assuming 2 years ago since it still had Apple Coverage on it), anyways,I just wanted it for him to be able to play games on it and add music too. Sp recently I noticed the WiFi wouldnt connect at all, it was just always "greyed out", so I submitted that to Apple, and was told I would get a package, where I was to send the phone to them right. Okay so as I did like the last time, I packed up my son's iphone 4s & dropped it off at the nearest Fedex Location, and got a receipt, since it says on the instructions to obtain a receipt, to prove u sent your package and what not. Okay well I check my tracking to make sure my phone got to Apple when its supposed to, it says "Delivered". Okay so I wait a couple days to see if the status changes on the Apple Website, and nothing, so I check my email to see if I got an email or anything, and I did! And I recieved an email saying that Apple received my box "EMPTY & UNTAMPERED WITH"!! How that happend, I do not know, all I can think of is that some one at Fedex stole my phone, AGAIN. SO I have been on and off the phone with Apple trying to figure this out, and the latest thing they have told me is "since we recieved your package EMPTY, you have to show proof of purchase" which is nearly impossible I think, because my cousin who i got the phone from, does not have access to her account, nor does she have the reciept to the phone.
My question is, so now what do I do? What Can I do?? I sent them my son's phone, and Fedex stole it, and Apple basically looks like they aint going to do anything since I dont have "Proof of Purchase".

Okay, I had to think for a minute, but I think I know what you're talking about, even if I can't help much. Maybe I'm mistaken, but does it start bugging you about making your payment, even though it's not due for a week or so? I'm not sure if there's anything you can do, but I have my payments set up to automatically be paid from my bank account every month, so I never get those alerts. I do understand how irritating it probably is because it's almost like they don't trust you to remember to make the payment. I don't mind being reminded, but once should be enough. I have most of the accounts I pay monthly set up to remind me a few days ahead, but that has always been an option I had to request and I was able to pick how many days ahead they reminded me.
Edit: I forgot that I do get one reminder, but it's to let me know they are going to be making the withdrawal from my account on a specific date, but they only send the one, so it's not a big irritation to me

  • Why can't I just load all my music onto my iPod

I hesitantly got iTunes match and only because songs were not loading on my iPod because apple thought that I stole them. Some of those songs were loaded from CD's years ago and the CD's have long since been discarded or sold, some of those songs are original recordings I made (using my mac and apple software not less). They appear now with iTunes match, but my library won't load onto my iPod or phone and I'm not always around wifi (or wanting to use my data) to stream playlists…. why is it apple assumes we are all able to get onto wifi all the time in order to run our devices. I just want my music and my playlists to load onto my devices to I can play my music without having to select each individual song and loading it on while I'm on a wifi network. I would also like my songs to be intact, most stop half way through which makes for awkward moments when you're listening to the road trip mix you made and the songs stop halfway through.
iTunes match is a misfire and I'm sad that I'm paying for a service that made listening to music on my device a pain. This stuff used to be easy and intuitive and now its just frustrating.
fix this and help us out would ya?

The sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
