10.4.9 with ProTools on MBP

Does anyone know if ProTools LE 7.3 will run on my MBP if I install the new 10.4.9 update?
I'v heard alot of problems concerning this update and I'm worried about installing it on my MBP anyways, but on the flip-side I'v heard lots of successfully updated stories.
My concern is that it won't interfere with my ProTools LE 7.3 , when installing ProTools it recomends that one disables the mac auto-updates incase of uncompatable updates , I'v checked the digidesign website, but there is nothing posted as of yet. Anyone running this version of ProTools with the new update?
Thanks in advance

Everything is running A-OK with this update and PT 7.3.1.
OT: If you are using OhmForce plugins, the AU versions are NOT compatible with 10.4.9. Check out the details on their site: www.ohmforce.com

  • Horrible Experience with new 17" MBP

I have had 3 Apple laptops in the past 3 years. My most recent purchase has been the most expensive, and most disappointing. Its a mid 09 17".
All day, everyday, this computer beach balls. From the simplest task of quick viewing a folder, creating a bookmark in safari, to playing a song in iTunes. It becomes increasingly disturbing when using a program such as Final Cut Pro or Motion. Ruins the experience.
So I lose intrest in trying to do things such as making videos, so I'll just watch them on the internet. Usually just browsing the net will only score me a beach ball about once an hour.
NOPE. My airport starts dropping the connection. It just shows searching in the airport menu. I have to click on my network and type in the password. My laptop drops it's connection around 5-6 times throughout a day.
I paid $2500 for a better user experience. I almost achieved more when I had my old Blackbook because it wouldn't freeze up for 30-50 seconds 20 times a day.
I have restored, reinstalled, cleaned cache, used snow leopard specific programs, reset this and that. Where do I go from here? I don't want to drive an hour and half to my closest Apple store just for them to tell me its a software issue, when this would happen on Leopard also. I dont want to drive an hour and half to a store for them to take it from me for 6-14 days. I need my computer everyday.
    What do I do?

    Hi All,
I am also having this problem on a brand new MacBook Pro (Which was given to me as an exchange after an absolutely disastrous relationship with my previous MBP!)
From day one I have been having abnormal amounts of beach ball action, sometimes so bad that it actually makes doing anything on here impossible. I took it into my local Apple store and was told that everything seemed to be fine.
A few frustrating days later I called the Apple helpline and was taken through various procedures and told to phone back if this didn't fix the problem. It didn't fix the problem!!
I then reinstalled my OSX software and for the last few months this solved the problem. One of the reasons I was in the forums was that I now cannot open anything by double clicking... Do anyone have any ideas how to fix this?!
So I reinstalled again yesterday, hoping this would fix the file problem but aside from not fixing that, the spinning beach ball of doom is now back in full force!
Don't get me wrong, I love my MBP but for something so expensive, I would really like it to be in working order and not have to send it away for weeks one end!
Any suggestions greatly appreciated and to everyone with the same problems, my deepest sympathy lol!

  • Using Logic 7.2 on a Mac Pro with Protools 7.2.1 and Mac OS 10.4.7

I am researching purchasing a New Protools/Logic System
Seems the version of Protools to use with the new Mac Pros is 7.2.1, which only recently came out to work with the new "Mac Pros" Digidesign has stated thhat it works with and Mac OS 10.4.7
The latest version of Logic is 7.2 which has been out for a while....hmmm
Is anybody using Logic 7.2 on a New Mac Pro with Protools 7.2.1 and Mac OS 10.4.7, and does it work?

Logic Pro 7.2.2 is not compatible with DAE/TDM on a Mac Pro INTEL.
You will see only "CoreAudio" as available choice, when trying to engage your audio hardware.
We have to wait for any announcements in this regard, maybe at AES or DigiDays in San Francisco.

  • Does Office 2004 Student Teacher edition work well with our new MBP?

    Hello All,
I have an older copy of MS Office 2004 for Mac: Student/teacher. Does it run well on our new MBP's?
I also run iWork 09' but need Office for work. I have read online that the newest MS Office is not that good.
    Thanks

Hi,Office 2004 is designed for PowerPC processors, so you have to use Rossetta to have it work with the new mbp, as it is based on Intel processors, and the performance may not be very satisfactory.
Office 2008 is a Universal application and runs well on Intel Macs.

  • Is a 16gig/RAM upgrade possible 13" MACBOOK PRO 2.9ghz if so is it worth it or am I better off with a 15" MBP?

Forgive me for trolling on this topic but I wanted to be a bit more specific and get properly eductated before I make a final decision.  I had a 17" and I f@cking hate it because of it's size.
I have been a mac guy for a few years but up until now I relyed on my tech/junior assistant to deal with all the tech stuff.  He has now gone and on his own leaving me to get all techy again.
A little about me and what I will use the laptop for.
I am a photographer/film maker. I run CS6 very often sometimes daily.  I usually have multiple picuture files open with multiple layers.  Some images can range to a size of 600mb+.  I shoot with cameras with no less than 18 megapxls.  On top of that I may also have FINAL CUT PRO and working on short films.  I generally have the habit of jumping back and forth between the two, plus get distracted with the web and stream videos. and the od video game (but not so much).
I keep reading that 16 gigs of ram is a possible upgrade on a 13" macbook.  Is it possible?  And if so, what sort of performance boost can I expect (in comparison to the 15" MBP?  Also, if so are there any glitches that may damage the computer?
    1.  I travel quite a bit I really prefer the portability of the 13" MBP and want to avoid having to buy te 15" MBP
    2.  I am attempting to be cost effective (which may be a futile attempt)
    All answers are welcome.
Thanks for your time and have a fine day Ladies and Gents.
    Cheers

Thanks mate but it doesnt, answer the question about performance.
In terms of screen real estate, I don't care much for it as I usually work relatively close to the pixel sizes and I generally work in very dum conditions so the antiglare is something I also dont care for.  If mac offered a Matt finish screen again it would be a dream lol.
Retina though sweet is really just a gimmick, stare at one screen, starred at them all, so I'm fine with the regular MBP.
    And size does matter.

  • Magic Trackpad pairs with Bootcamp (Win7) MBP instead of another MBP w/Yosemite?

I've 2 MBP's - a Yosemite MBP and one running Win7 via Bootcamp. When the Yosemite MBP is off, the Magic Trackpad pairs with the old MBP (Win7/Bootcamp). I see no clear way to disable this pairing in Win7/Bootcamp or a clear way to disable Bluetooth on the Bootcamp/Win7 MBP either. I can shut down the Win7/Bootcamp PC, but this gets old very quick, as I tend to carry my Yosemite MBP w/me at the end of the day.
Any suggestions from the Mac Geniuses? Thank you.
    Martin

Based on the multiple issues, I think I would reinstall OS X 10.10 from the recovery disk (your data is untouched). As always though, make a good backup before doing anything (I use Time Machine and I also make a bootable clone).

  • Which kind of SSD hard discs do support with earlier 2011 MBP ?

Which kind of SSD hard discs do support with earlier 2011 MBP ?
I'm using 15 inch earlier 2011 MBP. I would like to replace hard disc to a new SSD hard disc to improve performance. But I don't know which kind of SSD works fine for it. Does anyone work fine? Could you give me some successful experience? Thanks a lot.
BTW, Can I use SATA3 SSD? And any problems here?

try to change your Logic audio drivers ! you'll see there is(select it ) DAE
driver, TDM option and Core audio driver! You have to chose DAE driver then
reboot the logic Pro then it will work

  • Considering a 23 or 24" display to use with my 17" MBP.

I'm mulling options over a budget 23 or 24" display.
Currently the Samsung SM2343BW 23" TFT Monitor (2048x1152 20000:1) or the Samsung SM2443BW 24" TFT Monitor 1920x1200 jump out as the ability to rotate the screen seems useful for PDFs and website reading.
Any thoughts? Has anyone used any of these with their Mac? The smaller one has a higher resolution but I've heard 1920 x 1200 (my Mac's native resolution) might be better than the higher 16:9 resolution of the 23" model.
What's the colour rendition like on these displays and how does the viewing angle compare to my MBP.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers!

    I have this one:
    http://www.dell.com/us/en/dfo/peripherals/monitor2408wfp/pd.aspx?refid=monitor2408wfp&s=dfo
Usually they are about $375 to $450 but they have been as cheap as $275 if you take part in a deal like this:
    http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/expired-deals/947956
I believe it is the exact same one as the one in this picture along with the same MBP:

  • Is my AirPort Extreme base station A1034 (802.11g) compatible with Comcast 50 Mbps internet service?

Is my AirPort Extreme base station A1034 (802.11g) compatible with Comcast 50 Mbps internet service?

The WAN port on the A1034 will handle up to a 100 Mbps Internet connection, so you are OK there.
Wireless on the A1034 is limited to 54 Mbps tops, so things should work OK as long as wireless devices can receive a strong wireless signal from the Apple router.

  • Using Alu Power Adapter with The new MBP Unibody 2009 ? (Both 85 Watts)

    Hi,
Can i use the Power Adapter off my Aluminium MBP 2.5 GHz,15" intel core 2 Duo (MacBookPro4,1), with the new Unibody 15" 2.66 GHz(MacBookPro5,1)?
    They are both 85 Watts.
The Power adapter for Aluminium is :
    Input : 100-240V - 1,5A 50-60Hz
    Output : 16,5-18,5V, 4,6 A Max
    Delta Eletronic
The Power Adapter for Unibody is :
    Input : 100-240V - 1,5A 50-60Hz
    Output : 18,5V 4,6A, 16,5V, 3,6A
    LiteOn Technology
    Thanks for The Lights.

    That's correct, I meant to type 85W.
Can anyone advise what the impact will be of using older 85W adapters with the new MBP's that come with a 60W adapter?
Is there a shorter battery life in the long-term, or is the new battery designed to cope the same with either of these power adapters?

  • Anyone with a 17" MBP C2D having AirPort issues?

Most of the reports I've seen of people having issues with their MBP C2D and AirPort have the 15" MBP C2D (myself included.)
Has anyone with the 17" MBP C2D had issues, or is it isolated to the 15"?

    Hi William
I had a 2.33 15"MBP 2.33and had no probelm with the airport reception (until security update 2006-007 was installed - I erased and reinstalled to get rid of the update and my machine went back to working fine.) Apple have released an update for Airport on the 15". So using software update the machine installed the airport update first, then installed security update 2006-007. Airport worked great.
Due to an excessively grainy display, my reseller allowed me to return the 15" and upgrade it to the 17". Again, this machine has had absolutely no airport issues. Connects full signal to whatever network I have attempted to connect to without issue.
So, I have had both a 15" and a 17", neither of them have had any airport issues, other than the one mentioned above in regards security update 2006-007 on the 15", but Apple did launch an Airport update which fixed this.

  • Can I use the old MagSafe connector with the new MBP

I must say that I like the new style MagSafe connector that came with my new MBP. I would like to get an extra to leave in another room, but I'm not hot to pay $79 to Apple for one. I saw an 85 Watt old style connector on eBay for $35. Would the old style work on my new MBP? I don't want to screw it up just to save $44, but if it will work, why buy the $79 unit.
Basically, it would only be serving duty while my MBP is connected to my Time Machine.

As long as it is healthy it will work, Macaby.
Be wary of second hand units that haven't been tested though. Quite a few that haven't been well treated develop weakening of the wires at the points where they enter either the magnetic "head" or the body of the power block. At best these are likely to fail prematurely. At worst they may cause sparks to fly!
OWC sell tested second hand units for a price somewhere in between the eBay "used" price and the cost of a new one, that might be worth a look.
Be wary of cheap third party imitations. The extra few dollars is a small price to pay to avoid the catastrophic consequences that can occur if a badly made power adaptor happens to decide to start a fire!
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Is this an issue with my Retina MBP or Logic 9?

Very odd thing happening with my MBP today. I wonder if anyone else can confirm they get the same results (for me, it's repeatable 100% of the time).
If Logic 9 is running and I attempt to visit this particular page on The Independent's site:
    http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/features/a-whole-new-power-st ruggle-plot-twists-and-profanity-behind-new-series-of-the-thick-of-it-8092738.ht ml
my MacBook Pro (Retina, 2.3GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB, OS X 10.8.1, Logic Pro 9.1.7, Safari 6.0) actually shuts down and reboots.
Can anybody else confirm this? Is it a problem with my three week-old MBP? I'm concerned about continuing projects using it in case there's a bigger issue at play here.

I think it has to do with the graphics processor, some of the kexts (=kernel extensions) mentioned in the report have to do with graphics.
Try accessing that page with a different browser perhaps...? Firefox, Chrome.. they're free anyway, it never hurts to have more than one browser for that occassional page that acts up. But, I must say it really should not happen at all. Kernel panics are scary.

  • Is it possible to configure Time Capsule to work with Time Machine (MBP) and Genie Timeline (PC)

I have an Apple Time Capsule (2TB) and I need to configure it to work with my MBP and Time Machine and also back up my a PC with Genie Timeline Pro 2013 (or any other suggested PC back up software).
Setting it up to work with Time Machine is simple enough but the PC access is proving to be difficult.
    http://www.genie9.com/support/KB/KnowledgeArticle.aspx?KBID=198
I followed the above steps but still can't connect to the network drive.  I have reformatted the TC and will be walking through the steps again.  My concern is that the two different operating systems (Win8 and Mavericks) can't share the same destination drive.
I have created two user accounts with drive sharing activated.  One in my name for my MBP and the other in the name of my partner for her Dell laptop.
Should the Time Capsule be partitioned?  Can it even be partitioned?  When I use Drive Utility it can't see the TC.  The only way to connect to it seems to be via Airport Utility.
On a seperate note the TC Router Mode is set to OFF (Bridge Mode).  I have connected it to the ADSL modem/router (WiFi Off) via the WAN port.  All seems to be well.  Am I loosing any useful functionality by doing this?
The internet settings are set Connect Using DHCP.  I have no issues but I am not really sure what it means and if I should be using other settings.  The ADSL modem/router seems to have all the PPP0E settings.
The WiFi on the TC has been set up with a 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz network as well as a Guest Network.  I then plan to introduce 2 Airport Express (MB321LL/A). One will be an access point for AirPlay and the other a wireless extender with AirPlay.
There is also a Canon WiFi printer that accesses the 2.4Ghz network.  It has an Ethanet port so I am wondering if I should disable the wifi connection and cable it and if so to the TC or the DSL modem/router.

Lion, 7.6.1 firmware and iCloud offers remote access.
    http://www.apple.com/au/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
To do it without the iCloud service your issue is static public IP address.. if you have one this is simple to the point of trivial. If not it is very hard, as Apple did not put in a standard dynamic DNS service.. (ensuring you were roped into their cloud accounts). Static IP from your ISP is the best solution.. if it is possible go for it.
Then the actual protocol for access is AFP, so the only device you can do this on is a Mac.
Do you have the TC as the main router?
If you want any other kind of access, or to avoid icloud use vpn.. which teamviewer is a kind of.. but buy a real vpn router, and bridge the TC.. you can then vpn into your network with full security and get windows access via smb..
