10.4 Tiger start-up question

When I start my laptop running 10.4 Tiger I-photo always starts and shows me a screen of my pictures. This is not what I want to happen but I cant figure out how to keep it from doing this.
Thanks for your help

Go to System Preferences > Accounts.
Check if iPhoto is listed under Login Items for your login account preferences.
If so and you want it removed, select the application and the button below.

Please include more information, such as your Operating System (Windows?) and version, plus exactly what happens when you try to start Firefox. The information that's listed in a recent Firefox crash report, if available, might also help. See [[Firefox crashes]] under '''Get help fixing this crash''' and post any crash Report IDs recently submitted (they'll start with '''bp-''' )
Your question title says "Firefox will not open or won't start (see /questions/964132 )" I looked at that question and it was started by another Firefox user. [/questions/964132?page=2#answer-477049] has a number of suggestions if Firefox won't start. Which ones did you try?

Note: A "clean reinstall" was one of the suggestions in [/questions/964132]. It means removing the Firefox application files and then reinstalling Firefox from a fresh download, as explained in the "Reinstall Firefox" step in [[Basic Troubleshooting]]. If that allows you to start Firefox, but if the problem returns after restarting the computer, you should do another "clean reinstall" and then troubleshoot your plugins by disabling all of them, as suggested in the [[Basic Troubleshooting]] article.

  • A Tiger Software Update Question from the iBook Forum

I just finished reading this question,
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12901184#12901184
in the iBook G4 forum and am very curious myself if this could be a problem with the update. If someone knows why this is happening, would you please help the poor guy with two dead iBooks?
    Thanks,
    Randy

I'm sorry, I didn't mean that the other member's question was solved, only my part in it. That must have been confusing. I should go back to mark it unsolved.
I subscribe to the iBook G4 forum and when this question came up, I looked through other forums to try to find an answer for him/her. The Tiger forum seemed like the logical place to post the question. It looks like the right person came to the rescue! Thanks. Discussions members have helped me out by networking like this, so it's great to be able to return the many favors.

  • Remote Start installation question - Trying to understand

I just want to get auto start added to my 2012 Dodge Charger.    The dealer is asking for waaay to much for OEM remote start and install so I figure Best buy would be cheaper.  I see many products ranging from $199 to $600.  I plan to get either the Viper 4205V or the 4115V1B.  My question is, I literally just want autostart. I would like to still use my existing FOB to unlock my doors, pop my trunk, etc.  Sounds like when an aftermarket is installed "stuff" needs to be bypassed and you end up using the aftermarket lock/unlock, trunk open features rendering your current key fob useless.  Is this correct?
    1) Can you confirm with he viper units listed above, that I can get autostart installed on my car, and still use my existing key FOBs for all my basic funtion (lock/unlock, truck)?
    2) Also does the standard Geek Squad install come with the open hood auto kill feature, I seem to hear the most complaints about installers not installing this safety feature and not telling the buyer they dont install this.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yes my FOB  unlock/locks my door and pops trunk while car is running.
So bottom line is (as far as you know), there should be no reason the viper units I selected should not work with my car.  And I shouldn't need any special (expensive) add ons to get things to work properly and my original FOB should work as usual.
I just dont want to get something installed that keeps something else from working properly on my car when from having autostart installed.
    Thanks

  • Starting up question

    Please help!
I'm sure there's a simple solution to this question, but...
every time I start the computer up, it decides to forget everything I saved (onto the desktop, itunes has to be signed in again, etc, etc) the previous time i had the computer on.
All is not lost since computer makes up a new sub-folder inside the "Users" folder. with a number next to it. However, this has lead to some confusion when searching for files saved, say, 3 or 4 days ago, or longer.
What are the correct settings needed to rectify this? Does it concern start-up disc, or Accounts, or Internet and Network?
I tried to solve this problem myself, but it has persisted.
Thanks for any help, if you happened to know the answer!

    Gosh communist,
why, I have exactly the same problem. The answer must lie somewhere in the following:
select the Hard Disc, go to File and click on Get Info.
You will be given a drop-down description of owner and list of options to read only/read and write/no access. choose "read and write" for all the options to do with Ownership and Permission, and the Details.
The next button to mouse on to might be "Apply to enclosed items" which I dare not click on because then the message reads "you cannot reverse this".
However, despite my efforts, my computer still refuses to remember the settings during the time the computer was on the last time.
Does anyone else hold the key to our problems?? I also thought there would be an easy answer to this...

  • Seeking for advice over software development start-up question

    Hi Admin ,
My friend who is an internet marketer at warrior forum told me about Adobe AIR. He said that programs developed on Adobe Air could not be decompiled. I am a forex software developer that created both a trailing stop ea and forex charting software on the Metatrader 4 open source trading platform. My concern is that the software which i developed could be decompiled.
I have a programming team and they have little or few experience with Adobe Air. I was thinking that before i ask them to research and start developing our software on Adobe AIR platform, could you help us but answering some important questions regarding AIR?
Is it true that AIR applications cannot be decompiled?
Forex software in .ex4 format and .dll files be transferred over to AIR format?
Could there be a communication between AIR and Metatrader 4 trading platform ?
For more info, visit these url :
    Metatrader 4 : http://www.metatrader4.com/
Forex Applications which i Developed on Metatrader 4

    Regards,
    Warren Seah

There is no software that cannot be decompiled and/or reverse engineered. ActionScript is actually one of the easier languages to decompile. There are obfuscators and other protection schemes, but I can't attest to how well they work.
You can write an ActionScript wrapper for dll libraries (in many cases). I don't know what .e4x format is.
An AIR app can communicate with another application or server in a variety of ways. The most common include HTTP and sockets.

  • HT1750 start up question mark

Why does the mac flash a question mark periodically

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your Mac can't find any bootable disk.
    1. Insert the Mac OS X DVD and press C key while your computer is starting.
    2. Go to Utilities > Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and repair the disk.
If it doesn't help, the hard disk is broken. Take the Mac to an Apple Store

  • Upgrade to Tiger from Panther questions

I checked some of the old (2007) questions that are similar to mine, but they don't exactly address my questions, because of the upgrade separation of the systems in question. So I'm entering a new question that might hopefully save me some trouble.
I haven't been using my Powerbook G4 very much, lately, but I do use it occasionally for light video editing and more especially for slideshows. I like making slideshows on iMovie beter than other application I have on my other computers.
I keep reading the upgrade methodology... supposedly using the Snowleopard boxed set. The hype makes it sound as if it's capable of upgrading an Inel or PPC equipped Mac. That just sounds too good to be true, so here I am to ask for some experience based advice to make this potential change a little easier. Which disks should I purchase to make this upgrade as easy as possible?
Should I upgrade my RAM? Would an upgrade to more than the existing 512 meg be advised, or is it pretty mandatory? I am always fighting byte-bulge, as it is, so would an upgrade to a HDD larger than the existing 80 gigs be worth the extra money? Any particular size/brand to consider more than others?
My present complaint is an inability to do anything at all with the iTunes store, as most of you probably know. This wasn't so bad prior to adding Win7 machines to my network... but they seem to have completely shut out the Mac... and a Win XP machine, to boot. It's just a hassle to swap fairly large files with thumb drives.
Any upgrade advice and methods for upgrading from Panther to Tiger would be much appreciated.

Sorry, no G4 or any PPC Mac is going to be able to use Snow Leopard/10.6.x
10.5.8 is the most your G4 can use, & yes, max out the RAM.
    Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
        *  Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
    minimum system requirements
        * 512MB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
You have to call Apple & likely ask for a Product Specialist to get it, if they still have it! Helps to tell them you have an iPad/iPhone & you can't run 10.6.
There are workarounds if the 867MHz is the only hangup...
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/leopardassist/
BTW, 10.3.x is Panther, 10.4.x is Tiger, 10.5.x is Leopard, 10.6.x is Snow Leopard & not PPC compatible.

  • The Spindle and Apple at Start Up Question

Background: had to replace my hard drive. Transferred data from Time Machine. Had the internet plug in (to the USB Port) and the white plug (with green light on) in from the wall. Was not running on a battery. Finished, and shut down. Went to relaunched half hour later - just a gray screen, and about 30 seconds later, a pulsating image of the world. No spindle, no apple. Shut it down. Took out plugs. Relaunched without any attachments. Spindle and Apple as usual. Tried it again with plugs in. No spindle or Apple. Went into Systems Pref. Went to Start Up. The hard drive WAS NOT highlighted. I highlighted it. Question: is THAT the reason why there WAS NO spindle or Apple with the plugs in? I have not shut it down, as I need to work with my computer for the next several hours. If I've corrected the launch by highlighting the desktop hard drive in System Pref. will I see the spindle and Apple, with plugs in when I shut it down tonight, and Relaunch tomorrow?
    Thank you for any response.

That should work. Here's a link that describes the flashing world a little:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2674
Evidently your Mac was looking for a network to boot from instead of booting from your hard drive.
    Good luck!

  • Bootcamp start flashing question mark

    Hello!
When I want to start my MBP 15-inch, Mid 2010 with bootcamp partition /start machine ALT, chose bootcamp partition/ I see only a folder with flashing question mark. It happened after when I change system 10.9. It was a clean installation /with usb, erase the Mac OS X/

I check DU smatr the hdd is verified.
I try to reinstall the windows7, but after installation when restart the machine, same folder with flashing question mark.
My OS X is working fine, if I put DVD, or USB I can start. Only the bootcamp not working.
I go to bootcamp and it shows me: "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition." I can chose only "OK" , and after "Go Back"
    On my machine I have 3 partition: -1 OS X -2 data -3 Bootcamp
Before I install the new system it was ok!

The partitions was same like now, I not changed.
How can I install again the windows?

    Just replace the hard drive.
If he lost data, look at data recovery services*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
And in the future always recommend people backup important data frequently.
If he still gives you death threats, call the police.

  • FCP 5 Launches automatically when Tiger starts up

I'm not sure what has changed but all of a sudden when I boot up my G5, FCP launches automatically. I haven't made any recent changes and couldn't find any type of utility in the OS other than something called launchd which I know nothing about and therefore haven't touched.

    Hi Shadow,
I just saw this on a site the other day. I don't have Tiger, but apparently, you can set programs to auto launch upon start up.
here is a link on the tiger board:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=742133&#742133
if that doesn't work, try searching in the help for automatic program launch.

  • Tiger to Leopard Questions

Hello everyone . This is my first time posting on these boards, so I hope I'm not asking anything that has been answered a thousand times.
I bought my Macbook before Leopard was released, so the boot-up discs that came with it are for Tiger. My girlfriend got a Macbook and it came with Leopard, as well as the boot-up discs. Since this is my first Macbook, I made quite a few ignorant mistakes that I would never repeat now, and I would like to erase everything off of the hard-drive and have my MB back to factory settings.
My question is, can I use the Leopard boot-up discs that came with my girlfriend's MB to restore and install Leopard onto my machine? Also, what will updating software be like since it is now up to 10.5.6?
Thanks in advance for all of your help

My question is, can I use the Leopard boot-up discs that came with my girlfriend's MB to restore and install Leopard onto my machine?
No. Install DVDs that are shipped with Macs will work on only the model they ship with. You need to buy a retail Leopard DVD.
Also, what will updating software be like since it is now up to 10.5.6?
New retail Leopard DVDs are 10.5.6, but there are still some updates. Software Update ( menu) will find all the needed updates. Even with an older retail Leopard DVD, there is a combo update that will get it to 10.5.6 in one step.

  • When will PPC + Tiger start losing app support?

I bought the final model PPC Mac Mini with superdrive and Tiger that was being closed out through Costco. Plays well with my legacy software investment which includes classic apps -- and it supports NeoOffice/J, which Macintel doesn't yet.
Any guesses how long it will be before new Mac software will no longer run under Tiger on PPC hardware? I ask because already so much new software requires at least 10.3.9 or even 10.4.x. How long before apps start requiring "intel-inside", or Leopard?
What are your guestimates of the obsolesence curve for the next two years?
iBook G4 800, 640 Meg; Mac Mini (final issue) Superdrive

Not sure what your questing really is here. Are you talking about how long Tiger will be viable or how long the PPC chip in your machine will be viable? Apple has asked developers to provide Universal support for PPC for at least five years, and Apple itself supported the 68k processors for 11 years after the transition from 68k to PPC. The only wrench here is that you have a G4.....I have the iMac G5 (iSight) and I am not worried about it. By the time PPC support even begins to show the first signs of drop off, it will be time to replace this machine anyway.....

  • Tiger, ibook FWD question

    greetings
i hooked my Lacie FWD (via FW400) to my brother in laws ibook (10.4.3, i believe it is the 1.33) and the disk would mount and i could access all of my files just fine. my problem began when i tried to boot from my FWD via system preferences (yes it has a bootable volume of panther 10.3.5 with the latest FWD firmware update, i use it all the time on my emac just fine) i got as far as the spinning grey thing and then it would freeze. i had to shut down the ibook and unplug my FWD and then i would restart the ibook without the FWD hooked up. i would get the flashing ? in the folder for a second and then the ibook would boot up from the internal HD. every time i start up the ibook now the flashing ? folder shows up just for a second and then the internal HD starts up.tried repairing permissions on the internal HD but it didn't help.
    any ideas?
    bill

    Matthew
i had no idea that bootable clones were computer specific. my FWD has an OS that i installed on the FWD and not a clone of my emac. the ibook did come with tiger on it. again, i had no idea that an ibook couldn't boot to an earlier version of an OS than it has on it. i have tiger (10.4.2) on my emac now, although it shipped with 10.1.5 originally, it boots (from FWD's) 9.2, 10.1.5, 10.3.5 and my bootable clone of tiger. superduper is so awesome! no i have not gone back to check if the internal HD is selected now. i will do that tomorrow. i just assumed that it would default back to the option it has to boot from, being the internal HD.
    thanks for your reply
