10.4 updates fail to mount
I have tried updating my 10.4 to 10.4.4 and 10.4.6 and it begins to verify but then fails to mount sighting "codec overrun"
I dont know what that means.
Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Do you have high speed internet? Downloads over dialup may be harder to download without getting them corrupted.
Did you repair permissions before attempting to install? Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility has the repair permissions function.
Have you backed up your data?

10.4.3 Combo Update fails to mount and install
Has anyone been able to install the 10.4.3 combo update? I have downloaded 3 times, using different browsers, times of day, etc.... It downloads just fine, but it will not mount and I get an error saying that it has an invalid CRC check.
*sigh* I am slowly beginning to dislike Apple. Thanks for posting an answer but you really did not say anything. I thought I made it clear that I have downloaded it several time with different browsers etc... The issue is not the speed of the download but rather the fact that it will not mount. Regardless, the new issue is that I have now formatted my Mac and the 10.4.3. upgrade simply will not install. It says that the volume does not have the correct requirements.

10.5.5 Combo Update - .dmg fails to mount
Downloaded the 10.5.5 Combo Update. The .dmg failed to mount. Error message says "not recognized."
Same Boat. I downloaded the Combo Update several times using different browsers such as Safari, Firefox, and even Opera. Same Error each time about "Invalid Checksum". I also downloaded and installed the new iPhone Update and now my iPhone battery lasts half as long. It seems to me that since leopard came out every time there is a new update it has not been tested properly and at least half of the people installing the update have problems. I also do regular maintenance on my computer using software programs such as Disk Warrior, Tech Tool Pro, Applejack, Onyx, and Socks. These bad updates are really starting to get old. I wish that apple would get these issues fixed PRIOR to releasing the updates...
I could be mistaken, but I don't recall as many errors and people having problems when there were updates to Tiger, Panther, Jaguar, or Puma. I suppose the fact that the OS that Apple is releasing next "Snow Leopard" is focused on Stability Issues and not new features tells the whole story. We'll all be shelling out another 129.99 for a new OS that is really just what this OS should have been in the first place; which means that, in the end, we're all really paying "$260.00" for a stable version of Leopard... I switched to Mac in 1993 to avoid these types of Windows-Like Issues. When Apple re-emerged after almost failing it appeared to me that they were focused on quality, but now I'm starting to wonder. It seems to me that the quality of Mac/Apple Products (including both Hardware & The OS) has really gone downhill...

I continue to receive "failed to mount" when trying to install .dmg files or updates. Has anyone found an answer to this problem? I am operating on Mac OS X 10.4.11
10.4.11 was only available as a PowerPC updater application (both as a Combo and as a Delta) to Macs with 10.4 or later that were PowerPC. If you don't have 10.4 installed on your Mac, see this tip:

Tiger 10.4.11 update install reads disk image fails to mount
i've been trying to download the tiger 10.4.11 upgrade and when i go to open i get the following disc images failed to mount and a reason of item not recognized. i'm at a lose considering ti've downloaded the update several times with my slow dial up and tried disc utilty to correct it, all i want to do is use my new ipod nano but need to upgrade my itunes which means i need to upgrade my software please help pretty frustrated.
Would the same error occur if the update being downloaded is for an intel based computer and not the PPC, which is what is needed?
Here's the page for the 10.4.11 combo PPC download
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateppc.html
Depending also what level of 10.4 you are presently at, downloading smaller combos/increments, may seem time consuming, but actually work better with dial up service. I was once dial up myself, and went through the same difficulty. Also with doing it this way, you would have to repair permissions with each download, and reboot if any were repaired. There would also be numerous security downloads, too. -
"Disk Images Fail to Mount/ OS X 10.4.10/Security Update 2007-006?"
Whilst downloading the most recent Mac OSX Update, 10.4.10 to a PPC G3, 600 MHz, with 1 GB SDRAM, I received an un-explained error message. Since then, my USB Web Cam doesn't function, some applications don't load, and I consistently get a Warning Message that disk images fail to mount as device not configured. Moreover, I got the distinct impression the aforementioned issues were related to the problem of installing Security Update 2007-006 which was roughly released at the same time.
How can I proceed to get matters back to normal? Would deeply appreciate advice from Apple Forum/Technical Support person(s) in all convenient speed. SOS!
Yours sincerely,
Joseph.
Power PC G3 Mac OS X (10.4.10) How do I uninstall the 10.4.10 update? The problem took a somewhat bizarre twist when I got a phone call just after double clicking on a disk image file set to open with DiskImageMounter. When I came back from the phone call (about 2 minutes), the disk image was mounted, the MacBook wasn't frozen, and everything worked. With repeated testing, it now appears that both DiskImageMounter and Disk Utility hang for 65-75 seconds after starting the process of mounting a disk image and then complete the task successfully. Deleting the two cache files eliminates the hang (spinning beach ball), but only for a short while.

here is the window that opened: warning the following disk images failed to mount.

Software Updates "can't be installed" & "failed to mount" messages
In software update; all new software, Quicktime, iTunes, Java for Mac and Security Update; I get a message saying that they can't be installed, followed by :"The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by “Apple”."
I also cannot download software updates (ie: Firefox or adobe flash player). I've already repaired permissions and verified disks. I've also gone to the main websites to download from and when I try to run them, I get "disk images failed to mount.." and the reason being "codec overrun" every time.
Some one please help!Hi jrsysurfer, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I see you've done some of this already, but since it seems something is corrupted with your OS, am including it all, but I think it may take an A&I.
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.

Repair Permissions before & after re-install, then reboot again each time.
If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...

Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...

That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.

All downloads failing to mount and iTunes not recognising iPod!
My iBook G4 (Model No A 1055) needs alot of updates however i can't install anything. It downloads to the Desktop fine but when i go to open the attachment so i can actually install it a message comes up saing "The following disk images failed to mount" and the reason is a "corrupt image". I have tried to do this with Firefox, iTunes and Adobe and they all say the same!
I also now have issues with iTunes (7.2) which is all of a sudden not recognising my iPod shuffle (2nd gen). It doesn't come up in devices or anything when plugged in my iPod shuffle will just flash orange a few times and then nothing. I have tried to connect it to another (and much newer) Mac computer however it doesn't recognise it on there either.
Has technology just got so good my lappy is basically extinct and i need a new one or is there something i / Apple can do to help get me up to date with everything? Any help and feedback would be really appreciated.
Thanks
Louiseif you are running OS 10.3, it's pretty much obsolete
you can try getting OS 10.5 installed, but it can slow down the computer, 10.4 is not much use anymore either. -
Config Manager 2012 R2 Update Failed - Now What?
Starting Environment:
Windows Server 2012 VM
Configuration Manager 2012 CU1
SQL Server 2012 Enterprise SP1 installed on a separate 2 node cluster
We have been running this setup for Config Manager 2012 CU1 for about a year now with no issues at all. In an effort to deploy Windows 8.1 I ran the Configuration Manager 2012 R2 Update. The update failed halfway through. From the ConfigMgrSetup.log
it looks like it wasn't able to connect to the database and this is why the update failed. Problem is after the install failed I am no longer able to connect to the database when opening the CM console. I get the "Configuration Manager cannot connect
to the site" message. Here is the error from the SMSAdminUI.log:

I have tried running the R2 update again but am now faced with the following 2 failures during run check:
Current SUM configuration uses virtual locations for some of the active SUPs. Please remove any virtual locations from the existing SUM configuration.
There is an active source hierarchy configured for migration. Please stop data gathering for each source site in the source hierarchy.
I do not know how I can fix these errors without being able to connect through the console.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can reconnect the console to the database and eventually successfully run the R2 update?
Database itself seems fine. No errors. Database mounts fine.
Thanks in advance for any input.Hi,
I saw a similar problem with yours. It should be helpful.

What's Happening?? Some days after installing latest security update for 10.5.8 on G4, both inernal CD/DVD drives failed to mount disks other than a cleaning disk which mounted and was imported into iTunes. No other CD or DVD disk will mount. Is this a unique experience?
Hello Robert,
First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive. -
I am running 10.3.7 on a G5. I am trying to download 10.3.9 combo update MacOSXUpdateCombo10.3.9.dmg (117MB). It downloads but then fails to mount. This is the fifth attempt to upgrade my system. Am I missing something?
I ran Disk Utility yesterday, and fixed any issues with permissions issues. Any thoughts? In Safari, (Download monitor) the file download, but then stops short of expanding, leaving a "Mounting failed" message in the Downloads window.
When I double-click the downloaded file, I get an error message -199.
When I double click the file in the download window, I get the message "Safari can't open the file because it is still downloading."
Yes, I did a Get Info on the file, and it is linked to DiskImageMounter.
I am very puzzled. -
[SOLVED] Arch failed to mount /boot
Hey there,
after my btrfs filesystem somehow got corrupted, so it would only mount my "/"-filesystem as read-only, I backed it up with rsync, recreated the partition and then transfered the data back. After that, I was unable to boot anymore with this error:
[1.593560] systemd-fsck[306]: fsck.fat 3.0.27 (2014-11-12)
[1.594292] systemd-fsck[306] /dev/sda1: 98 files, 43105/98304 clusters
Mounting boot...
[FAILED]Failed to mount /boot.
See "systemctl status boot.mount" for details
SystemD the prompted me with it's emergency mode, but this didn't react to any keyboard presses, so I couldn't check the exact error with sth. like journalctl -xb. I then booted a, today downloaded, Arch Live-CD and tried to access the logs via journalctl -b -D /var/log/journal/ didn't work out: It only had the logs from before the boot problem.
With a bit of googling I figured a way of fixing this could be chrooting in and reinstalling initramfs, typing chroot errored out with:
chroot: failed to run command /usr/bin/zsh: No such file or directory
I tried commenting out /boot in fstab, but at booting something [FAILED] with Load Kernel Modules and I instantly got prompted with a blank, black screen with a "_" blinking in the top left corner, like a normal console, expect any prompt of any kind was missing and it didn't react to my keystrokes, similiar to SystemD's emergency mode
So essentially two smaller problems with few google results are hindering me from solving my big problem.
Thanks for any help in advance,
Quanttek

Probably easier to use `arch-chroot` though:

Thanks. Using arch-chroot worked out. It is/was certainly no environment issue, I even tested it with both i386 and x86_64.
I used it to reinstall mkinitcpio and to update my system, so now on boot I dont get a failure on mounting /boot anymore, but I still have problems with Load Kernel Modules.
My screen now looks something like this: http://m.imgur.com/ATWHJoq
Again it's not reacting to any keystrokes. I'll get some sleep now and will look tomorrow into getting some information from the journal logs.
