10.5.0.142 Multiple items information issue

Hi guys,
I'm using iTunes v10.5.0.142 now. I've just recognized the latest iTunes is a bit buggy as I can't edit multiple songs' informations, such as Part of compilation, Gapless playback, etc. I mean the checkboxes on the Options sheet are there and active but the dropdown menus are inactive regardless of whether I click the checkboxes or not (see attachement, sorry for localized version of iTunes). I can edit these informations for each songs separately but it's very annoying and it takes forever (just imported about 1000 tracks from my audio CDs to iTunes). Can somebody help me how to activate those inactive dropdowns or solve this issue any other way?
Thank you!

I had the same problem and i downloaded microsoft fixit software and it did fix the issue. Here is the link for that guyshttp://support.microsoft.com/fixit/  When your on this page, dont change the first option n 2nd option be Connect to the internet or networks and for 3rd option choose  Automatically diagnose and fix common security setting on Windows. and run the software and enjoy itunes store.........

How do you use the Multiple Item Information dialog box ???
Where are the instructions on how the information in the Multiple Item Information dialog box equates to ...
    1. The way iTunes sorts tracks and albums
    2. The reason to select a leading check box
    3. Why there are Option selections (Yes /No) and leading check boxes.
    4. Why some changes remain in the track info, but do not "take effect" in iTunes (Part of a compilation is an example)
Looked in Help, Support, went to the local Genius bar for an hour, even arrainged a call from apple support ...
    Thanks

As Christopher says, it's a compilation. Different tracks are by different artists.
Setting the *Album Artist* field to *Various Artists* and setting *Part of a compilation* to Yes should be all that is required. Depending on your *Group compilations when browsing* setting ( I recommend On ) either should suffice but I suggest doing both.
Based on your commentary, I selected all the "O Brother" tracks, and checked the boxes for everything line that was blank in the Info and the Sort panes. Only exceptions were the album name and the disc number 1 of 1 and the artwork. I blanked and checked anything else.
That's not what I meant. When you select multiple tracks, only those values which +are already common+ to all tracks are displayed. Typically these will include Artist, though not with compilation albums, Album Artist, Album, No. of Tracks, Genre plus various sort fields. A blank value may indicate that different tracks have different values or it may be that the value is blank for all tracks. For the drop down values on the Options tab the value shown may not reflect the information in every tag. If values you expect to be common, such as Album Artist or the Album title are not displayed you can simply type these in and click OK. This will often be enough to group the album.
If you place a checkmark against the blank boxes and apply changes then you will clear those fields so you should only do this if that is the effect you want. Putting a checkmark next to an empty (representing different values) *Track No.* box, for example, will just clear the all the track numbers which is very rarely useful.
Adding then removing extra text is for a specific problem where despite all common values being identical across the tracks of the album iTunes seems to "remember" that it should see two albums. A typical example would be when an album originally listed as *Album CD1* & *Album CD2* is given disc numbers X of Y and then has the Album name changed to Album. I've seen iTunes merge all but one track into the new album, but insist on listing one remaining track separately, despite both albums having the same title. In this case I've found overtyping the album title again has no effect whereas changing it to AlbumX and then back to Album does what I was trying to achieve in the first place.
Don't forget that even properly organsied albums may still break up if you don't chose an album-friendly view. Sorting on the track name or track number columns can be useful in some circumstances but in general I revert to Album by Artist when browsing through my library.

  • Multiple Item Information - problem

I updated to iTunes 8. Now, whenever I try to "Get Info" on more than one music file, the content in the "Multiple Item Information" window gets displaced. Please refer to this jpeg to understand what I mean:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/mkeopong/iTunesscreen.jpg
Any ideas why? Any help in resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Actually I meant on the Appearances tab, not the Themes tab.
You right-click on any blank space on your desktop, choose Properties, then click the Appearance tab.
Anyway, worth a shot. Sorry to hear it didn't work!
Sounds like there's some other bugs with itunes v8 needing a certain color resolution setting or else the whole screen is pink.
In itunes 7, there was a huge bug where users were forced to set their display settings to 1024x768 in order to accept the iTunes license agreement. Nice, huh? Apparently that's fixed - haven't seen posts about that since v8 was released.
From the screenshots posted on the Get Info for multiple tracks, it looks like more display settings hijinx from iTunes. I changed some stuff on my system, but never got a display like that.

  • How do you get to the "Multiple Item Information" window so I can click "Part of a compilation:?

How do you get to the "Multiple Item Information" window so I can click "Part of a compilation"?  When I transfer a CD to iTunes, and the CD has ten tracks, it loads as ten different albums.  Also, once this happens, do I have to delete the album and start over or is there a way to merge the albums in iTunes?  Using iTunes 10.04.08.

And you've made me remember that using the compilation flag may only work in iTunes if you go into the Songs view, then use View > Column Browser > Show Column Browser and then View > Column Browser > Group Compilations to make sure this line is ticked.
It is also best if View > Column Browser > Use Album Artists is also ticked.

I have iTunes 10.0.5 and all my album artwork is present but when i bring up the Multiple item information box by clicking on an album there is no artwork there?
but there is artwork on the actual album. im wondering if this is why when im uploading music to the internet using FTP transfer the artwork doesnt come up next to the song name. It does with some and with others there is no art.
All the songs have ID3tags versoin 2.4 and have been converted to a MP3 file but still doesnt work.
Check this image to understand what i mean more.
So from the right itunes is showing an album with the album art, in the middle is showing the Multiple items information boc and on the left its showing my FTP with albumart work showing and some not showing?
    PLease can someone help

*Why is artwork not showing on my iPod when it's there in iTunes?*
iTunes will display a cover in many of it's views provided at least one track from the album has embedded artwork. The iPod appears to load only the artwork from track one to create the cover flow and album views which means that it can sometimes fail to display art for albums even when you can see the art in iTunes. Further, when tracks are played on the iPod, artwork is displayed if and only if it exisits in the currently playing track, so track one may show art while track two does not.
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts13.php for Macs. If you're using Google or other FWSE to locate suitable images they should be jpg's and ideally square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. If you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, select a track with artwork, right-click (Option-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the abum, use CTRL-I or Option-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.
    *Rebuild artwork cache*
Sometimes the artwork cache becomes corrupt and fails to show correct artwork, even when this is properly set up in iTunes. To rebuild the artwork cache, connect your iPod to iTunes. Locate the iPod in the Sources pane on the left-hand side, then select the Music tab. Remove the tick from *Display album artwork on your iPod*, sync the iPod, reselect the option & sync again.

When viewing multiple item information, I was wondering what the checkboxes next to "Artist", "Album Artist", etc... are used for.

When checked, it means that you are going to apply whatever is in the box to all of the selected items.

  • Sorting / Get Info for Multiple Item Information

I want to sort based on album artist and then album. (Can I/How do I) select a secondary sort item? How do I suggest additions to the Multiple Item Information dialog, specifically sort album artist, sort album)?

Click on Album column header a few times.
It will cycle Album -> Album by Artist -> Album by Year and back to Album.
How do I suggest additions to the Multiple Item Information dialog, specifically sort album artist, sort album)?
    No need to.
Fill in the info in one sort field, then click okay.
Right click on that song then *Apply sort field* and select which field you want to apply.

  • Multiple Item Information - Sorting: broken?

I think the Album Artist column is near the top of the sorting hierarchy. Previously if I entered more than one Album Artist for a single album that would take precedence over track numbers in my listing (sorted by Album). I could neutralize this by putting a "1" or common word into the 'Album Artist' entry of the 'Multiple Item Sorting' Tab. That's the one you get when you Get Info on a whole album.
This is broken now. Or at least does not have the effect it used to. Putting a common word there for the entire album does not allow the album to sort by another criterion.

    *HowTo: Grouping Tracks Into Albums*
Excuse the long post, but hopefully covering all the bases (that I can think of) will help you fix the other issues you are likely to run into as you try to organise your iTunes library.
    *Use an album friendly view*
iTunes will let you sort music on many columns, some of which are unlikely to group albums together or put the tracks in their normal order. The most useful order for editing the library is probably *Album by Artist*. If you're not already there, select the list view and click on the column heading for Album until it reads Album by Artist.
    *One cover, too many tracks*
The iPod (and iTunes to a lesser extent) conflates two or more albums with the same title, most obviously with *Greatest Hits*. On the iPod this can result in one album acting as a combination of two or more. Selecting any cover gives all the tracks of all albums with the same title. The workaround for this "Greatest Hits" bug is to give each album a unique title - I tend to go for *Album - Album Artist* as this reads clearly in the iTunes browser. Alternatively you could use the wording as it appears on the cover or append different numbers of spaces for each different album. Somewhat oddly, setting different values for Sort Album doesn't work.
*Missing Artist or Album not with others by same artist*
iTunes relies on the Gracenote CDDB database when identifying CD's. This often marks collections or anthologies of an artist's work as a compilation. In iTunes, however, the compilation flag has the logical function of grouping together tracks with the same album name, but different artists on each track, e.g. "Now That's What I Call Metal 666!". These compilations are then all grouped together at the end of cover flow. Most of us however, would expect "Greatest Hits" albums to be listed with the other albums by the same album artist. For albums which are essentially by a single album artist or group it is best to set the appropriate value for the album artist and clear the compilation flag.
    *One album, too many covers*
For true compilations, where each track is by a different artist, the answer is to set the compilation flag to true and enable the iTunes preference to *Group compilations when browsing*. If the album is not a compilation however, any tracks which list guest artists may be treated as separate items. Filling in the Album Artist field is enough to link things in iTunes. Sadly, however, the iPod ignores the Album Artist field when grouping albums so this is only a partial solution. You can simply mark the entire album as a compilation which seems to be the way iTMS handles it, however that's not an ideal fix. Short of waiting for Apple to address this issue (and as far as I can tell it goes back to the 1st gen. of iPods) we need a workaround. What I do is to put any additional artist info. in square brackets after the song name. E.g. *Track \[Feat. Guest\]* and then set *Artist=Album Artist* for each track. For anthologies where the Album Artist is credited as part of another group, e.g. for Cream tracks on an Eric Clapton anthology, I use *Track \[As Group\]*. For a track where the main Album Artist doesn't receive a credit, e.g. the first track of the Slim Shady LP credited to Jeff Bass, I just set the track name to *Track \[Guest\]* while still setting the artist to the album artist. N.b. I use square brackets to indicate that this is information about the track as distinct from the song title and also use this style for Mix/Live/Bonus info.
Addendum: I don't own an iPhone or iPod Touch to check but I'm told that with the V3.x firmware these now group tracks on the value of Album Artist in a logical fashion.
*One album, still too many covers*
iTunes may split albums into two or more sections if some tracks from the album have different values for Artist, Album Artist, Album, No. of Discs or Part of a Compilation. Tiny differences such as trailing spaces, accented characters or variants of symbols can sometimes be quite hard to spot. The iPod is also more sensitive to case variations and may split or reorder an album that looks okay in iTunes. Normally overtyping the desired value for each shared field will complete the grouping of the album into one entity. Occasionally, however, this method seems to fail. When this happens I've found that you can force every field to update properly by adding some extra text - e.g. a trailing X, which once applied seems to complete the joining of the tracks into one album. Once this has happened the extra data can be removed and the album should remain properly grouped.
*Tried that, there are STILL too many covers!*
The Sort Artist, Sort Album & Sort Album Artist fields can be used to override the normal sort order. For example iTunes automatically drops leading articles (a/an/the) so "The Beatles" are arranged under "B" instead of "T". Occasionally different tracks from the same album can have different values in these sort fields which can also break up the grouping. Making the sort columns visible in iTunes can help with spotting & correcting such problems.
    *One cover for multi-disc album*
Multi-disc albums are often listed as *Album (CD1)* for CD 1, *Album (CD2)* for CD 2 etc. To display these properly using just one cover, each disc should have the correct *Disc X of Y* values set, and then the entire album should be given the single title Album. Being somewhat obsessive I also renumber the tracks sequentially, working backwards from the last track (so that no two tracks ever have the same number) until I reach disc 1. BTW You can still give the individual discs different artwork should it be relevant so that the correct artwork will be displayed as the album progresses.
    *Tracks out of sequence*
Check that all tracks have the same/correct disc no. For a single disc album this should be either blank (my preference) or 1 of 1. iTunes will sort tracks with a disc no. of 1 before those that are blank. Just for fun the iPod sorts them the other way around. In addition ensure that the Artist, Album Artist, Album, Sort Artist, Sort Album Artist & Sort Album fields are consistent across all tracks.
N.B. The first release of iTunes 9 is ignoring the disc no. value when sorting as Album by Artist or Album by Year. Either make the track numbers seqential across the album or live with it until the next build.
    *One artist, many names*
With some artists, particularly classical composers, you should be aware of alternative representations of their names. E.g. 2Pac vs. Tupac. The menus will work best if for each artist you standardise on just one form of their name. E.g. make a choice between Mozart, W.A. Mozart or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and then apply it consistently. For classical music I tend also to use the Composer as the Artist & Album Artist and either discard the performer details or place these into the Comments field. The Sort Artist/Sort Album Artist fields can group alternate forms in iTunes but these will break up again on the iPod. It is best therefore to use Artist & Album Artist consistently so that the name is displayed the way that you want and Sort Artist & Sort Album Artist to control where it is listed.
Addendum: Again I don't own an iPhone or iPod Touch to check but I'm told that with the V3.x firmware the system fails to pick up on the Sort Album Artist value and sorts albums in Cover Flow by Album Artist instead.

  • Multiple Item Master Issues

We are looking to add a newly aqcuired company to our Apps instance. What parameters MUST be shared across both companies? For example, we would not want to use all the same flexfield structures (stock locator, item catalog, item category, etc), since the businesses are in different markets, and their items are not at all related. Can this be done in the same instance?

    Hi
In Oracle application you have the concept of single structure and multiple structures flexfields, For example for one instance you can have only one structure for system item flexfield but in the case of item categories you can create multiple structure i.e. you can create multiple structure in single instance.

The following line tells me that this is not a template file, but a document created from a template called index.dwt

  • How do I update grouping or description for multiple items?

As the question implies, I would like to update information in the Grouping and Description fields for multiple items as a way to keep things organized. What I have discovered is that there are some quirks in the new Get Info window that were not in past implementations, which are completely inexplicable and nonsensical to me.
For instance, when you open the Get Info window for an item that has no information in, for instance, the Grouping field, you will not see a Grouping input field, as in this screenshot. The Grouping field should be where the bottom arrow is. Notice also that the Description field is available. I will get back to that in a minute.
If you manually double-click into the Grouping field on the main iTunes screen, you can enter the information there. Then, when you open the Get Info window, ta-dah! The field magically reappears, as in the screenshot below.
The trouble comes when you want to edit this field for multiple tracks. If you select multiple tracks, and they do not all have the Grouping field already populated, the field does not appear. What this means is that you are forced to manually enter the information for every track! This is completely unacceptable when you need to edit information for, as in my case, 122 tracks. The following image shows the Get Info window that appears after selecting two items, one with the Grouping field manually populated, and one with no info in the Grouping field.
Not only has the Grouping field disappeared, but the Description field, as well. Thanks, Apple, but I think I can decide for myself whether or not to populate these fields for multiple items. Let's get 'em back, huh?
SO… does anyone know of any valid method for accomplishing this task? Without manually entering the same information in hundreds of fields? This is the future; computers are supposed to do these monotonous tasks for us, aren't they?
Oh, please don't suggest Option-clicking to open the older, better, Get Info window, as Apple has decided that we should not have that option any longer. We apparently have to organize our music their way. Think different!

The Add Field button was in the editors of 12.0.1 (where the new-style editors had a very "half-finished" feel)  - it is not there in 12.1.  Apple have determined which metadata fields should be available for each kind of media, with no option for the user to modify this.  In Apple's own words: "Get Info has been completely redesigned in iTunes 12 to focus your attention only on what’s necessary for the selected item."
    The only options are:
temporarily change the media kind (Options tab) to one that includes the field you want to add values to, enter those values, and then change the media kind back again
make the relevant fields visible in an appropriate list view and edit values there - the big limitation being that you can only do this one item at a time
I can see - to a degree - why Apple may have made some limitations so that metadata elements are available based on their relevance to different media kinds.  However, one of the issues mentioned above seems like a bug - if a single audiobook file can have a Description tab, I see no reason at all for that not to be available for multiple items of the same kind.
If not already done so, report these issues and dissatisfaction with the "new" metadata editors in 12.1 (and the absence of a "back door" for the old-style ones) using Apple's iTunes feedback page.

  • Is it possible to query multiple items in a single OPC read?

I am trying to read several data items at one time via OPC. Is this possible? If so, how? I have tried passing multiple URLs to specific items and a single URL header with multiple variable names. Both methods return an OPC error about invalid items. I am trying to do this to speed up OPC access times. Reading each item one-at-a-time is a little time consuming for our application.

The only way to read multiple datapoints via OPC is to build an OPC item that contains multiple pieces of information. I checked this here, and I had no problem reading an array of data from an OPC Server with DataSocket.
I read the "opc:/Matrikon.OPC.Simulation/Random.ArrayOfReal8" data item from a Matrikon OPC Simulation Server that publishes an array data item. The OPC Demo server is available for free download at http://www.matrikon.com/opc/htdocs/simx.htm. You can read this as an array of doubles in LabVIEW.
For your application all you will need to read your data multiple items at a time is a server that can publish arrays.
    Hope this helps.
