10.5.2 and .Mac sync - is this a bug ??

I just updated from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2 today. Now I get this .Mac sync icon in the top menu. I never have a .Mac account and I certainly do not use the .Mac sync application as such.
So, why is this icon now showing up in my menu bar? When I click on it, I have two options - Sync Now and Open .Mac Sync Preference which they both don't work. When I try to select 'stop .mac sync' from system preference, it complains I do not have a .mac account.
How do I get rid of this? This is so frustrating.
Please help!

i did a little more research and found a similar thread on this topic. a user named Diana provided a solution by going into iSync.

    Are you syncing both with the cable to itunes and with icloud? That tends to duplicate your information. Choose one source with which to sync

    Have disabled in Messages > preferences on the Mac

    Same goes for Safari which pops up on the mac when I open it on my iphone, how can I disable it all?

    Thanks but have signed out, disabled and nothing.

  • Documents to Go and Mac sync

    Got my new Palm Centro to sync with my Mac (10.4.xx) and except for one item it does great. The one area I have problems in is syncing an .xls spreadsheet (produced by Numbers or NeoOffice). If I try it with NeoOffice the names come over but not the figures. If I use Numbers I have to send the spreadsheet as an email attachment. I have isolated the .xls file on my Desktop in a Folder called "Palm" and point it in that direction but it won't sync (I modified Folders so it would look in that folder. Do I have to have Office on my Mac (i.e., is the fact I am using either Numbers or NeoOffice the problem)??
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

    Excel files (.xls) don't have to be in any specific place on your computer. Using the desktop Documents To Go application, simply drag the file you want to sync with your Palm into the application window.
    The top half of the Documents To Go window will sync a file directly into the application and data memory space on your Palm. If you are using this memory space, you will need to convert the file into a .pdb file (this will be handled for you as Palm OS only allows you to load .prc and .pdb files directly into RAM. You can load any file you want on an SD card.)
    Drag and drop any file you want to the memory card. You will not be required to convert files stored on an SD card. This is how I get most of my files on to my Treo. I use the SD card section of the Documents To Go window and leave the files in their native file formats.
    Hope that helps.

  • ICal and .Mac sync...arrgh

    First...I am newbie to Macs. Trying to sync my iMac and Powerbook using .Mac. How do I get each to show as a registed computer?
    Each computer has a .Mac account
    imac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    skookum,
    There is no need for an additional/separate .Mac account on each computer. Each computer should be registered/signed-in using the same .Mac account.
    Additionally, the computers that you use for syncing must have different names.
    Use the intructions for "Unregister and re-register the computer under a new name." provided in: iSync: How to troubleshoot sync issues related to .Mac

  • 2G iPod Touch and .Mac Sync - won't do it anymore

    Hello!
    I bought my new, second-gen iPod touch just after they came out. When it got here, I set it up for syncing contacts, calenders, mail, etc with dotMac (or Mobile Me technically). It did indeed work just fine.
    Then, I managed to freeze the iPod up, and it needed a restore. During the restore sync, iTunes copied all the data from the backup over to the iPod, including all the contacts and such - but since then, I cannot sync. Both the iPod and the Mac seem to have the correct Mobile Me settings, and it seems that it shouldn't have a problem. Indeed, the Mac (my MacBook Pro) syncs events just fine to the .Mac servers, such that I can access them online. Yet, calender entries won't sync from my computer to the iPod or vise versa. Yes, the iPod has a internet connection - safari can access the web just fine (as can the App Store, iTunes, etc)
    I tried resetting, power cycling, erasing the Mobile Me settings and re-entering them, and even another restore - none of these worked.
    What can I do to reset the sync system, and make the iPod sync again?

  • Converting bytes to shorts using arrays and NIO buffers - is this a bug?

    I'm benchmarking the various methods for converting a sequence of bytes into shorts. I tried copying a byte array, a direct NIO buffer and a non-direct NIO buffer to a short array (using little-endian byte order). My results were a little confusing to me. As I understand it, direct buffers are basically native buffers - allocated by the OS instead of on the runtime's managed heap, hence their higher allocation cost and ability to perform quicker IO with channels that can use them directly. I also got the impression that non-direct buffers (which have a backing array) are basically just regular Java arrays wrapped in a ByteBuffer.
    I didn't expect a huge difference between the results of my three tests, though I thought the two NIO methods might perform a bit quicker if the virtual machine was smart enough to notice that little-endian is my system's native byte order (hence allowing the chunk of memory to simply be copied, rather than applying a bunch of shifts and ORs to the bytes). Conversion with the direct NIO buffer was indeed faster than my byte array method, however the non-direct NIO buffer performed over ten times slower than even my array method. I can see it maybe performing a millisecond or two slower than the array method, what with virtual function call overhead and a few if checks to see what byte order should be used and what not, but shouldn't that method basically be doing exactly the same thing as my array method? Why is it so horribly slow?
    Snippet:
    import java.nio.*;
    public class Program {
      public static final int LOOPS = 500;
      public static final int BUFFER_SIZE = 1024 * 1024;
      public static void copyByteArrayToShortArrayLE(byte[] buffer8, short[] buffer16) {
        for(int i = 0; i < buffer16.length; i += 2){
          buffer16[i >>> 1] = (short) ((buffer8[i] & 0xff) | ((buffer8[i + 1] & 0xff) << 8));
      public static void main(String[] args) {
        short[] shorts = new short[BUFFER_SIZE >>> 1];
        byte[] arrayBuffer = new byte[BUFFER_SIZE];
        ByteBuffer directBuffer = ByteBuffer.allocateDirect(BUFFER_SIZE).order(ByteOrder.LITTLE_ENDIAN);
        ByteBuffer nonDirectBuffer = ByteBuffer.allocate(BUFFER_SIZE).order(ByteOrder.LITTLE_ENDIAN);
        long start;
        start = System.currentTimeMillis();
        for(int i = 0; i < LOOPS; ++i) copyByteArrayToShortArrayLE(arrayBuffer, shorts);
        long timeArray = System.currentTimeMillis() - start;
        start = System.currentTimeMillis();
        for(int i = 0; i < LOOPS; ++i) directBuffer.asShortBuffer().get(shorts);
        long timeDirect = System.currentTimeMillis() - start;
        start = System.currentTimeMillis();
        for(int i = 0; i < LOOPS; ++i) nonDirectBuffer.asShortBuffer().get(shorts);
        long timeNonDirect = System.currentTimeMillis() - start;
        System.out.println("Array:      " + timeArray);
        System.out.println("Direct:     " + timeDirect);
        System.out.println("Non-direct: " + timeNonDirect);
    }Result:
    Array:      328
    Direct:     234
    Non-direct: 4860

    Using JDK1.6.0_18 on Ubuntu 9.1 I typically get
    Array: 396
    Direct: 550
    Non-direct: 789
    I think your tests are a little too short for accurate timings because they are likely to be significantly influenced by the JIT compilation.
    If I change to use a GIT warmup i.e.
    public static final int LOOPS = 500;
        public static final int WARMUP_LOOPS = 500;
        public static final int BUFFER_SIZE = 1024 * 1024;
        public static void copyByteArrayToShortArrayLE(byte[] buffer8, short[] buffer16)
            for (int i = 0; i < buffer16.length; i += 2)
                buffer16[i >>> 1] = (short) ((buffer8[i] & 0xff) | ((buffer8[i + 1] & 0xff) << 8));
        public static void main(String[] args)
            short[] shorts = new short[BUFFER_SIZE >>> 1];
            byte[] arrayBuffer = new byte[BUFFER_SIZE];
            ByteBuffer directBuffer = ByteBuffer.allocateDirect(BUFFER_SIZE).order(ByteOrder.LITTLE_ENDIAN);
            ByteBuffer nonDirectBuffer = ByteBuffer.allocate(BUFFER_SIZE).order(ByteOrder.LITTLE_ENDIAN);
            long start = 0;
            for (int i = -WARMUP_LOOPS; i < LOOPS; ++i)
                if (i == 0)
                    start = System.currentTimeMillis();
                copyByteArrayToShortArrayLE(arrayBuffer, shorts);
            long timeArray = System.currentTimeMillis() - start;
            for (int i = -WARMUP_LOOPS; i < LOOPS; ++i)
                if (i == 0)
                    start = System.currentTimeMillis();
                directBuffer.asShortBuffer().get(shorts);
            long timeDirect = System.currentTimeMillis() - start;
            for (int i = -WARMUP_LOOPS; i < LOOPS; ++i)
                if (i == 0)
                    start = System.currentTimeMillis();
                nonDirectBuffer.asShortBuffer().get(shorts);
            long timeNonDirect = System.currentTimeMillis() - start;
            System.out.println("Array:      " + timeArray);
            System.out.println("Direct:     " + timeDirect);
            System.out.println("Non-direct: " + timeNonDirect);
        }then I typically get
    Array: 365
    Direct: 528
    Non-direct: 750
    and if I change to 50,000 loops I typically get
    Array: 37511
    Direct: 57199
    Non-direct: 73913
    You also seem to have a bug in your copyByteArrayToShortArrayLE() method. Should it not be
    public static void copyByteArrayToShortArrayLE(byte[] buffer8, short[] buffer16)
            for (int i = 0; i < buffer8.length; i += 2)
                buffer16[i >>> 1] = (short) ((buffer8[i] & 0xff) | ((buffer8[i + 1] & 0xff) << 8));

  • Accidentally pressed "sync with this computer only" which was my friends computer and now i can't sync any of my songs from my laptop. Is there any way to fix this?

    So i just got a new Iphone 5s 64 GB. I plugged it into my friends computer and pressed sync with this device only as opposed to sync with other devices and now I can't sync my music from my personal laptop..Is there any way around this?? I'm using Mavericks and newest version of Itunes
    Also, I can sync my apps from my laptop but not my music so i'm really confused.. Help please

    I have the same problem. I bought a 3rd party software (tunejack) and it allowed me to transfer my songs to my new pc. Now I can't play them because I am not authorized. It says I am but then it says im not.

  • SONGS THAT I HAVE PURCHASED APPEAR TWICE ON MY PHONE. DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHY AND HOW TO EDIT THIS PROBLEM?

    Songs that I have purchased on Itunes appear twicw on my Iphone. Does anybody know why and how do I edit or remove one copy of the song?

    I have had two similar events with my Gen4 iTouch. An album was purchased thru iTunes with my iTouch. When I sync'd it with my MAC Mini (OSX Lion) each song that was included in the purchased album appeared twice on the iTouch but only once on the MacMini. Deleting the duplicates on the iTouch did not resolve the issue. With each sync they were reinstalled. The only way I could get around this was to delete the album/songs on the MAC, elect to move them to trash then re-sync the iTouch to remove them. Afterwards I was able to re-download the purchase on the MAC then sync the iTouch. This resolved the issue.
    The second event was different but the result was the same: An album was purchased thru iTunes but this time thru iTunes Store on the MAC mini. When I sync'd the iTouch there were 2 entries for each song purchased but this time there was an entry for the song itself AND an identical entry beneath it that looked similar to the play/pause sampling icon in iTunes when sampling a song prior to purchase. I am not using iCloud and I don not sync wirelessly on the iTouch. Again, all I could do was delete the purchase on the MAC Mini, sync the iTouch to remove them, re-load the purchase from iTunes and re-sync. This also resolved the issue but it makes me a bit nervous since I have a very large library. What is causing this?

  • I have a iPhone 5 -and cannot sync my music to it . I'm iTunes it shows it syncing but when I check my phone no music is on it.

    I have a iPhone 5 but cannot sync my music to it from my iTunes on my lap top.it shows as doing it and the amount of memory it has used but when I check my phone no music is shown. The same with previous purchased music . It shows it as downloading but when it is finished no sign on the music ....any ideas .. I have a ipad and mini and it synced to this ok

    Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
    Mac: OS X v10.6.8 or later
    PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
    iTunes 10.7 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)

  • Why does iSync now open when I activate .Mac sync?

    I use iSync on my PowerBook G4 to sync Calendars with my cellphone, and since I installed Leopard last week, whenever I activate .Mac sync to sync my computers, iSync automatically opens and attempts to sync my phone while .Mac is syncing. And I get a "synchronization failed, restart phone" message from iSync even when my cell is on & available to sync. iSync and .Mac sync were formerly 2 separate processes and I would like to keep it that way, but I find nothing in iSync preferences that looks like a way to solve the problem. When I open iSync independently, it syncs the phone just fine, and the .Mac sync is working fine too.

    Hi there,
    It seems you have something in the back that's playing music. Did you try closing plugin containter in Task Manager?
    This could be also if you have pinned a website in the Application tab that has background music. (like a gaming site)
    If this helped you, please mark my answer as "Solved!".
    Thanks,
    Borian

  • Compatibility 802.1X and mac-filter from ACS

    If the  clients identities and mac address are stored in the same ACS server.
    In WLC,could a wlan be configured layer2 security with both 802.1x and mac-filtering?
    this is really a critical problem for me!
    Thanks~

    Hi,
    I am assuming  you are asking if you configure a x  mac of wlan client in MAC filer and the same as user naem in 802.1x ACS database as user name , could you configure it ? what is the effect?
    If my understading of your queston is  correct the answer is
    Any wlan client will not be allowed to  associate to the network  unless a match is  seen in mac filter in wlc.
    But once that is done  it will not able to access  network resources  unless   802.1x authentication is  completed by ACS  against the wlan clients user name which is again a mac  address of client.
    i dont see a value for doing this. except that you will block  unnecessary authentication request getting to ACS  by filtering it in the 1st instance.
    another scenario is  if you are using mac filtering also on ACS , it should be preceeded by mac filtering and then ACS authentication , as above as far as  ssequence goes hence the same logic applies here.
    Thanks
