10.5.2 fixes permissions errors

The 10.5.2 update appears to fix the permissions errors I was getting on my MacBook Pro (unable to open Photoshop, couldn't add/remove names to Address Book).
And despite other posts, not having a problem opening Entourage.

Same here.
From another post I just made:
SEEMS TO HAVE REPAIRED MY "UNKNOWN USER" issue as far as I can tell. My Applications Folder no longer shows the write-protected icon in the lower left corner and if I Get Info on the Applications folder all three permissions show correct now for the first time (I was getting two Unknown Users previously). One thing it did not change is that I am still assigned a 502 ID instead of 501 in the Accounts > Advanced Options - not sure if this is going to present a problem or not in the future?
For the first time "UPDATES" has appeared ACTIVE in my Adobe CS3 Apps and it actually self-launched for the first time in Leopard - so this must have been a permissions issue previously with the Unknown User as the suspect?

  • Liquify tool says write permissions error, how do i fix?

Liquify tool is the only thing I can't seem to use in Photoshop so far, it gives me a write permissions error...why? My permissions are set to read & write...

HI I have this same problem. I uninstalled Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC 2014, reinstalled the latest Photoshop CC 2014 and now I am unable to use the liquify tool because I do not have "permission." I went in and double check that I have read and write permission, as well, I changed everyone to read and write permission and I still cannot use liquify. Help would be appreciated as no one from Adobe has contacted me even though I was promised a phone call yesterday.

  • I am trying to authorize my computer and I get an error message: The required directory was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed. Help?

I am trying to authorize my computer and I get an error message: The required directory was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed. Help?

I used Terminal to change the permissions on the folder in question.  I followed the instructions in this article:
iTunes: Missing folder or incorrect permissions may prevent authorization
In my case, the folder was there, so I needed the command to change permissions on the folder, not to create one.   I was hesitant to use Terminal b/c I know that if I made an error I could wipe out my hard drive or render my computer unusable.  So to be SURE I didn't make an error, I carefully copied the command from that page and *pasted* it into Terminal.  Also, before I could do anything in Terminal, I had to go change my admin password (it had been a blank password before and that's not acceptable for making changes in Terminal).  I was just super careful when entering my password or doing anything else while Terminal was open (making sure I didn't accidently hit the spacebar or another key, etc.)  And it fixed the problem right away.
What was confusing for me was that the iTunes error message said to change permissions in the FINDER, which is what I was trying to do.  It didn't mention Terminal.  What would really be helpful is if Apple included a link to a page like this in their error message.

Can someone tell me how to fix this error in 10.4.11 on a G5 Quad Core 2.5GHz Tower...A valid video device could not be found for playback. [-70017]

That's an error reported from DVD Player I believe...
kDVDErrorMissingGraphicsDevice = -70017, // A valid graphics device is not available.
There's some conjecture it has to do with HDCP, or Video Card problems, but the only 2 cures/fixes I found were Software related, one was cured by updating the OS, another by replacing the Video kexts.
I think this error also shows up if trying to use DVD player in Safe Mode, (too much research isn't good! ).

  • Permissions errors? ./private/etc/authorization, should be 80, group is 0

in the past 3 days i've been finding a error show up- on several machines- where programs would quit before they would even start up.
the only way i've found to fix it, has been to run "Disk Utility" and repair the permissions for the drive management.
    Repairing permissions for “Macintosh HD”
    Determining correct file permissions.
Group differs on ./private/etc/authorization, should be 80, group is 0
Owner and group corrected on ./private/etc/authorization
    Permissions corrected on ./private/etc/authorization
has anyone else found this error? where is this coming from?

    Thanks!
Until I fixed this error using Disk Utility, I couldn't install a 3rd party software app. I didn't log in as root to do it either, just repaired permissions and the install "took" the second time. I'm a member of the admin group... at least I thought I was! My user account says I'm an administrator and I'm the only user on this mac... any way to see what my user account rights are? I know netinfo, but I don't know how to interprate it?

  • Update 'download only' gets permissions error

I can do a normal update, but when I try to do an update, using the "download only" option, I get an error:
None of the checked updates could be downloaded.
Make sure you have permissions to write to /Library/Packages, then try again.
I'm an admin and admin is the group owner of /Library/Packages
    permissions are drwxrwxr-x on /Library/Packages
I've tried fixing permissions in the disk utility, but no change.
I can create and remove an empty folder in that directory.
I reiterate, I can apply the update if I don't use the "download only" option.
Mac Mini Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

This problem reminds me of issues with Software Update in 10.3. The update would fail with a message about checking permissions somewhere. Usually, these messages were red herrings and the problem was somewhere else.
One way that you might get a better message would be to start the console app (from the utilities menu). When the console.log file is open on your screen, try a download only operation. When it fails, see if anything is printed in the console log. If so, you could post it here and see if someone can make sense of it.

  • Error -61 with FTP Write permissions error; Not a publisher

    Hi,
I am trying to use Safari to FTP with my schools server (FreeBSD) but when I try to delete something I get error -61 which is FTP Write permissions error; Not a publisher. When I select "Get Info" I see the permissions say "You can only read". How can I fix this?

    Hi Rob
so far as I know, Safari and/or Finder can only read from ftp sites - hence the response you are seeing.
I've used http://cyberduck.ch/ for a few years - there are many other free/sharewware ftp clients

  • Just upgraded to Lion and cannot open files on my old SL partition - permissions error

I have just installed Lion on my 2008 MacPro on a new internal HD and cannot open word/text etc  files on the original Snow Leopard disc.  I get a permissions error.  I can preview the file but not open it.  When I do a get info, I can add my user and give it R&W permissions but still cannot open the file.  I have a third disc with just videos and no system and this is OK.
For information my upgrade method was as follows:
Install blank hard disc and fromat it.
Clone original HD onto new drive using CCC
         Give it a new name
Boot from the new clone and go through the lion install
Update the new system to 10.7.4
         Repair disc permissions
Through this method, I have a duplicate set of files on the Lion partition and these I have no problem opening, it is just those on the SL disc.
Any ideas as to how to fix this.  I did the duplication as I still want to be able to boot from SL for some old applications and hardware (a film scanner being one).
    Thanks
    Dave

    Softwater,
Well, I booted back into SL, and as I mentioned, I did have filesharing enabled.  So I added the whole disc as shared and re-booted back into Lion.
Still no luck. I get exactly the same permissions error and cannot open any files.  This seems crazy that from Lion I cannot open files on other bootable partitions.
I added myself as a RW permission on the disc via Get info and still cannot see the files. This is very strange behaviour.  According to get info on the disc, I have full read/write access and on the file itself.
I can see all the files on non-bootable partions.

The first thing I would suggest is for you to go to the folder containing your catalog, using your system browser. There will be a folder that has the extension .lrdata. Delete that folder, and then try to start Lightroom. If that doesn't work, replace your catalog with your most recent backup.

Yesterday I had the same problem.

Try to launch the game again.
