10.5.2 install failed for me... watch out

Apple's Software Update feature usually works so well that I just go ahead an let it run without taking too many precautions (aside from making sure to have a backup). Not this time.
On my current-generation MacBook Pro, letting Software Update do its thing seemed to be working, but at the end when it tries to reboot itself, it just hung there, frozen with a blue screen and no cursor. I tried to ssh in from another Mac on the LAN, just to be sure, but it was dead. After 45 minutes of blue dead screen, I held down Control-Apple-Power to hard reboot.
Upon reboot, it did reboot itself again (normal for this update), then finally booted. This took about 15 minutes.
When I logged into my FileVault-protected user account, some icons were wrong (a hard disk, my home folder) and I had two error messages. One said the VMWare kernel extension couldn't be used, and the other said Steermouse couldn't write a file it wanted to write.
Steermouse (mouse driver) and VMWare are the only two things I have installed that require kernel extensions (I avoid kexts absolutely as much as possible). Both failed upon reboot.
Since the install process crashed, I can't really know the state of the system install anymore, so I am gonna have to nuke the disk and restore from an older system backup to be sure.
Just a cautionary note: I would log out, and then log in from a non-FileVault account to perform this update. Unless you like restoring from backups.

My macbook failed too.
After updating it didnt reboot. I waited for a very long time. In the end I had to force reboot it.
It booted normaly and stopped at the login screen. (Normal on this machine)
When I log in to any of the accounts it starts the process by asking for my name and adress and stuff that usually happens when setting up the machine for the first time.
I knew this was wrong but tried to fill in the info anyway.
After doing that it just reverts back to the login screen.
I am now trying to update it using combo update trough remote desktop from a mac pro.
Crossing fingers here....

It worked. After updating trough remote desktop and rebooting I can log in to my accounts.

Weird system log error: EV_DELETE failed for file watcher

I just did a clean install of Snow Leopard (erased my hard disk before the installation using Disk Utility). I've run all the updates. I was experiencing some weird delay between the appearance of the blue screen and the appearance of the login window. The delay went away, but when I shutdown or restart, my system log has errors like this:

Does anyone know what these mean? These do turn up on a Google search, but under systems prior to Snow Leopard! Remember that this is a completely clean system with no third-party software installed yet.

I get a series of eight EV_DELETE errors when ejecting my external FW800 drive. But not when mounting.
The drive also has a USB interface which I rarely use since the FW is much faster. I just tried mounting it using USB. Same behavior - no errors on the mount, but 8 EV_DELETE errors when I eject the drive.
The must be something sketchy with the file structure of the external drive (which is a SuperDuper clone of my internal hard drive).
SL 10.6.5, MacBook Pro with an external FW800/USB 500 GB drive (WiebeTech enclosure).

EV DELETE failed for file watcher

Yesterday, I downloaded an Epson printer driver so I could install it. There was something wrong with the dmg file (yes, I know, epson software is crap) and it wouldn't mount. I soon gave up the effort. But, ever since the attempt, every time my computer is scheduled to sleep, it shuts down instead with the following messages in the console log (see below). I've repaired permissions - and quite a few were not correct. And I've deleted the bad dmg. Any ideas?

I get the same message (com.apple.notifyd[12] EV_DELETE failed for file watcher) and so far have come up empty on solutions for my machine (found one which worked for some people, but not me). Wondering if you've made any progress?

Updating iphone 4s to ios 8, install failed for unkown reasons, trying to restore iphone and asked for password. I enter my itunes password then my iphone lock password and still get error message wrong password. What password do they want?

I think the password it asked is the one that you used to encrypt iPhone backup.

Console Message: EV_DELETE failed for file watcher

Hi all,
MBP 2.5GHz/4GB RAM/250GB HD/10.6.4 with all updates.
I get the following Console message 8 times, in less than 2 seconds, each time I log out, restart, shut down, start up, log in:

this error comes from the file_watcher module from notifyd when some permissions are buggy (unknown)
So check that / and the first level files and folder under / are not unknown. (use 'ls -l / 'command in terminal to check them)
If they are with bad owner and/or group 'unknown' (or some of them),
use chown root:wheel my_file to correct them (where myfile is a file with weird owner/group)
then execute the following in a Terminal window:
sudo chown root:admin /
sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel
sudo kextcache -system-caches
and while "ls -l /" did find some things, the sudo commands did nothing.
I also ran across this
One thing, if you do man kextcache, it says instead of running kextcache you should "run touch(1) on the /System/Library/Extensions/ directory of the installation target volume" which I did instead of running kextcache.
but I have no idea what this person is trying to say (I'm way out of my league running Terminal commands. All I do is copy and paste what I consider to be promising commands from seemingly knowledgeable and helpful people; sure hoping to run across one or more of them here! ).

"Component Install Failed" for CS3 on Windows 7

For reference, I have a Lenovo X200 Tablet PC, running Windows 7 and Creative Suite 3 Design Standard.
Last Friday, 9/23, I tried opening Illustrator and received an error message that told me to uninstall then reinstall the program. I received the same error message with InDesign and Photoshop. All three programs had, up to this point, been working fine.
I uninstalled CS3, restarted my computer, and attempted to reinstall. The shared components installed fine, but Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Version Cue, etc. did not install, and gave me the "Component install failed" error message.
I went through the list on this Support page.
I tried all of the Solutions except the ones based upon Windows Event Viewer error numbers (as my Event Viewer didn't show any of the listed numbers).
I didn't install any updates or download anything between the last time CS3 worked and when it failed on Friday, so I'm not sure what caused it to fail in the first place.
If anyone has any suggestions or advice, I'd appreciate it.

I spent the entire day trying and repeating all of the suggestions found in the forums.
My last effort resulted in a successful install CS3 Illustrator. I didn't try to install the rest of the suite.
You can search for the details on how to do some of these steps -- they are all in both support and in the forums.
I uninstalled CS3.
Using control panel I uninstalled every other Adobe program - flash, air, extendscript -- anything Adobe,
I ran the Creative Suite Cleaner tool as administrator
I did a couple of passes of registry cleaner - I used CCleaner
Then I manually deleted leftover adobe files and folders. Some were read only, but I changed the setting and deleted anyway

I rebooted
Ran CS3 install as administrator
I opted just for Illustrator
And I prayed!
It worked for me. (I will say that installation looked despressingly similar to all the failed attempts of the day.... slow and forever on the install of shared components, but then in the last 5% it did move on of the installation to Illustrator! And to my utter shock it installed successfully)

I was prompted to update this morning when trying to sync my ipod touch. I have attempted the install twice and still receive the message that the install failed. 1. Installing to an existing network, that consistedof a desktop and two wireless laptops.
2. Both Laptops have Windows 7, 64 bit. Above named printer is successfully accessed from the laptops.
3. Am replacing one of the laptops with the Windows 8 64 bit.
4. The Series 1200 path is: Wireless Printer to Router, Router to Desktop via ethernet, Desktop to Printer via cable.

Unable to recreate this path with the Windows 8, 64 bit configuration.
a. When I attempt to download a current driver always wind up with a file entitled UPD-pcl6-x64-5.6.0.14430
     This appears to be a universal PCL 6 printer driver, Can successfully unzip the file and create a folder
b. During installation I can see the the desktop printer ICON (name:\\central\HPLaserj); so far, so good
c. Process fails to locate a driver and instructs to manually locate.
d. Browsing to the HP Universal Driver Folders fails because a driver cannot be found .
e. Attempting to manuall enter fails because you cannot input the above address (\\central\HPlaserj). Can only enter HPLaserj for the address, which obviously does not work.
f. When the installation did show a list of drivers, the only one I found was a universal PCL 6, which is what I thought I was trying to download originally.
This set up worked successfully with the Windows 7 64 bit. It appears I need help from a lot more expertise than I have to walk me through this set up.

CHUD install fails for Mavericks.

I'm trying to install CHUD 4.6.2 on Mavericks - 10.9.2 and the installation fails.
I tried the Remove CHUD program which seemed to work, and then tried installing CHUD 4.6.2 again and it still fails.
Is there a new version of CHUD going to be released that works with Mavericks? Or does anyone know how to sucessfully install CHUD on Mavericks?
This is super dissapointing because atMonitor won't fully work without CHUD and upgrading to Mavericks (for the new version of xcode) is causing this issue.

AFAIK, all performance tools are now bundled inside Xcode 5+. You can't use the ones that shipped in 2009. See https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/performance/conceptual/Per formanceOverview/PerformanceTools/PerformanceTools.html for details on using the current set.

Common components install fails for Essbase Server in a distributed environment.

Hello all, I am trying to install essbase server(V 11.1.2.3) on Red hat Linux 6, 64 bit. Have already installed Foundation Services on Windows 2008. Nothing has been configured yet. On the Linux install, the install of the common components fails. I have looked around in the forums and also in Oracle Support(Doc ID 1360561.1) and looks like it is a known issue. There is discussion that this is because of a few rpm's missing on the linux server. However I could not find a definite answer as to what exact package it was or if it actually is a rpm issue in the first place. Could someone please throw light on what exactly is causing the issue and what exact package is required. Thanks.

It will be because OCM is 32bit and requires the glibc 32bit packages.
Try running
yum install glibc-devel.i686 glibc.i686

Install fails for Creator on Mandrake Linux with AMD64

I tried to install the new version of Creator update 1 on my Mandrake Linux 64 bit version and it fails to find my JVM.
I'm able test my JVM by checking the version but it still fails.
I tried the -is:javahome option ---- no difference.
Tried installing the 32 bit version of JVM 1.5 update 7 does not make a difference with is option.
The installation of pervious version of 2004 creator works fine.
Any clue as to what might be the issue.
Any assitance on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

More info:  This thread suggested that fully patching their server resolved their issue, but I can confirm my server was fully up to date with all critical, security, and updates for Server 2008 R2 SP1 through 04/2014. I have .Net Framework
4 Client profile and Extended installed with their patches current. I wonder if upgrading to .Net 4.5 would have prevent this?

I also found a this article that talks about deploying the .MSP without the Patchwizard.exe wrapper, so sounds like I should be good.
The *Patchwizard.exe file is just a wrapper, so if you have a tool like Configuration Manager you can use the .MSP file directly for deployment and skip deploying the executable. This is a fully supported scenario so if that better suites your needs
then feel free to deploy the update using this method instead.

PP Install fails for CS4 and CS3

Hi,
I've been trying to install my licensed copy of CS3 on a machine that had 6.5 installed and ran fine. After two days with no success, I decided I'd download CS4 and see if it installed. No such luck. The behavior is the same for both CS3 and CS4. Setup begins in CS3 and goes through the extraction of the files, when the splash screen appears for initializing setup, it flashes briefly then goes disappears and exits. In CS4, the "checking system profile" gets about 85% complete, then the initalizing setup splash screen appears for a moment and disappears The checking system profile remains on the screen and the process is hung.
Machine is a 3.4 Ghz Dell with 2GB RAM, SATAII hard drive with plenty of space, video is Intel integrated. XP professional service pack 3.
Here's what I've tried:
1) Cleaned up and removed every Adobe application on the machine, then run the CS3Cleaner at levels 1,2,3,4.
2) Used ccleaner to remove and repair all registry related issues.
3) Used msconfig to disable all startup commands.
4) Updated to the latest Intel Graphics Accelerator/driver and latest chip drivers for the video.
5) Removed most applications.
Still seems like a conflict to me, but I can't think of anything short of reinstalling XP. I'm at wit's end and refuse to reinstall XP from scratch just to figure out something that should be apparent to me from the installation. The windows event log gives the message that the software was successfully installed and the add/remove programs has an entry for CS3. When I click remove, I get a prompt for debugging in Visual Studio.
I've rebooted, cleaned, retried about 40 times. No, I'm not exaggerating.

I had to use solution 3 modifying the javascript install. I still haven't figured out what is interrupting the screen call for the install. I had to modify the js file for the install of Encore too. Oh well, it's working!
