10.5.2 - It broke my applications!

Sorry if this has been posted before, but it's a problem.
Just updated to 10.5.2 with the graphic update, etc... it now seems like Firefox 3b2 doesn't work (it will launch and then just stop working) and Photoshop CS3 just won't launch. Now, Firefox really isn't a problem, but I depend on Photoshop as somewhat of a source of income.
Basically, it will get to "Initializing swatches" or something around that during the launch cycle then crash.
I'm not sure if this is a problem with Photoshop or the new Leopard update, but it's not cool. :P

P.S. I guess I should note that yes, I have installed the new version of Linotype FontExplorer and yes, Photoshop is still broken. I've also tried deleting the preference file.
I should also note that it seems it has also broken Coda and lord knows what else. This is quite a bummer...

Open Console in your /Applications/Utilities folder.
Under Log files in the left pane, click ~/Library/Logs, open up the crashreporter entry, and click on the entries for some of the applications that have crashed. Copy the first 10-20 lines or so from applications that have crashed in the last day and past them here.

I Broke my Applications Folder

I am a HUGE neat freak. My downloads folder is spotless, as is my documents folder, flash drive, and external hard drive. The one thing I didn't touch was my Applications folder, until a couple days ago, when I had a moment of weakness and put everything into neat, organized folders sorted by the use of the app. Everything seemed fine until today, when I updated the firmware to the version with the new Photos app. Now, there are duplicate system applications with the missing icon (the icon with the pencil, ruler, paintbrush, and blank piece of paper) that I can't get rid of, and am afraid to move for fear of messing something else up. Can anyone help me fix this?

I've had backup installers from previous installs in my computer, but not exactly what you're talking about. It seems that your system is working fine - you're just interested in aesthetic neatness.

Issue synchronizing with Integration Broker

I need some guidance in troubleshooting XenApp integration with VMware Workspace 2.1. It seems like I have successfully installed and configured the Integration broker.
I followed the steps from the installation guide.
Verify PowerShell remoting.
This sample command string applies to Citrix Server Farm 6.5.
Get-XAApplication -ComputerName CITRIX SERVER NAME

But then I added the Integration broker to the workspace portal and when I press "Sync Now" I get the message:

This takes a long time. When I look at the troubleshooting tab I see the following error:
Failed Sync Action: Could not pull objects from Integration Broker.
I use a self signed certificate on the Integration Broker. Any tips on how to troubleshoot, what to check?
I'm using Windows 2012R2 with IIS 8.5. I'm not sure if that is supported.

I have a problem regarding the application softwares from my Audigy 2 ZS platinum pro.. I'm having a problem reinstalling it coz my brother accidentally broke the Application CD.. Is there anyway guys wherein I could get the original application softwares again? Please help me.. I don't have any sound at all w/out these files.. I'll be very eager to hear from you guys... DBSequence type no longer available for entity attributes?

I'm puzzled by this, if not scared.
Every version of JDev till 11.1.1.2.0 has had out-of-the-box support for DBSequence as an entity attribute type.
When you set it for your PK, JDev disables a few options, automatically sets "refresh after insert" (and maybe other stuff) and handles everything about it.
Now, I see that in new applications created with 11.1.1.2.0 that option is no longer present...!
It's available only for apps migrated from previous versions.
If you create a new application, you no longer have DBSequence in the Type dropdown.
Here's what the documentation (Oct 2009 DevGuide, par 4.10.10) says:
In the Edit Attribute dialog, you can set the value of the Type field to the built-in data
type named DBSequence and the primary key will be assigned automatically by the
database sequence. Setting this data type automatically selects the refresh after Insert
checkbox.Where on Earth is this built-in data type named DBSequence in Jdev 11.1.1.2.0?

It seems JDev broke my application.
It only shows the native Java types in the dropdown, and does not show any of the Oracle types including Number, DBSequence and all the rest.
(Note that all the connections I work with use the Oracle type map, of course - it's automatic.)
I tried a new quick test with a new application and again, no Oracle types, just the java types.
Then closed and reopened my applications as well as JDev and I can now see all the types in my quick test.
However, my original application still "sees" no Oracle types, it's stuck with the Java types.
I'll try to see if I can repair it in some way... I'll eventually put it down as one of the gazillion one-time bugs that JDev shows daily.

APEX_COLLECTION.UPDATE_MEMBER not Working

Hi.
I hope someone can help on this matter.
I have been working with Apex for some time on and off and I and have accomplished more complicated stuff then this.
Bit this has stopped me in my tracks for 2 days now.
To the point.
Onload I create a collection from where I populate a small classical report with a edit link redirecting to a URL(little javascript).
All this does is show a hidden html region with a few text fields and populates it with the values from the selected row from the report.
This is then edited and saved, but NOT submitted.
The save button once again, redirects to a URL(Another small javascript) that passes the values to an On Demand Application process.
Up to this point everything works fine.
The process is executed and by different tests I know the values are being received.
What is suppose to happen is the HTML region gets hidden again and the report refreshed from the collection again.
That work perfectly BUT.
For some reason, the APEX_COLLECTION.UPDATE_MEMBER just won't work and I have used this many times before.
It also DOES NOT PRODUCE ANY ERROR.
I subsequently broke the application in to a small test but it still won't work.

I know there will be questions as to why I am doing it this way without submitting the page, so all I will say is that this is just part of a much bigger page with a lot more values to be set before submitting, validation, and processing.

I have used APEX_DEBUG, with no results.
To check if my values, I have changed the on demand process to actually update the table and not the UPDATE_MEMBER part,

I went through it again and again.
The APEX_COLLECTION.UPDATE_MEMBER call looks ok to me.
Maybe I have been staring at it to long, but unless I am missing something, I really don't see anything wrong.

Folder connection limit

I recognized a strange behavior when using JavaMail. Most likely it is due to a usage error by me but maybe you can help me to fix it. I'm connecting through JavaMail 1.4.2 to an Exchange server (2007). Then I try to open as much folders as possible (just to test the Exchange behavior). When the first exception is raised, I save the amount of open folders and close them afterwards.

Okay, now to the strange thing: I activated the debug option in JavaMail and I saw that it establishes a new server connection (!!!) when calling eStore.getFolder("inbox"). Is that the supposed behavior? I performed the connection establishment before manually. So why does have JavaMail to reestablish it? This is the point where I think I misuse JavaMail. But in the demo source files it is written in the way above, too.
The second thing is when I try to close the open folders I get the following notification: IMAP DEBUG: IMAPProtocol noop

I just noticed that my Exchange guys have reduced the amount of concurrent IMAP connections. This broke my application because I was monitoring each subfolder of inbox with an IDLE command. Maybe you could think about changing the JavaMail structure to support better the IDLE command. But I think the problem is located in the IMAP protocol. If the IDLE command really needs an open connection to the folder then there is no other way around.

Database Connectivity Toolkit does not even load in labview 8.5

When you do a clean install of labview 8.5 on a computer and try to load an app using the database connectivity toolkit, you get this error:
This comes up for multiple vi's in the database connectivity toolkit. NI is still shipping labview 5.1 toolkit vi's with the 8.5 release.

Don't lecture me about all software having bugs. NI is obviously imploding under its own weight. Its one thing to have a couple of bugs here and there, but NI needs to maintain and follow a release process that includes significant beta testing and a careful review process. If NI expects labview to be used in production-critical areas across more and more industries, they need to work much much harder on quality control.
The database connectivity toolkit broke when the release labview 8.0. This broke every application I had. Sales reps assured me they would fix the problem. Applications engineers assured me they had entered the bug into teh system and that it would be fixed.
You can't even OPEN the database toolkit in labview 8.5. So no, its pretty obvious no one at NI ever even opened it to check its functionality with either 8.0, 8.2, or 8.5. They would have seen this problem! You can't even load the toolkit because the vi's are verison 5.1! If my software had this kind of quality I would not only be a very poor engineer, but I would also be ashamed of myself. I would be embarrassed. If you software is like that, then you should be ashamed of yourself too.
Your argument, "all software has bugs" is basically saying I should be passive and accepting of whatever NI gives me for my $4000 a year. I am demanding better quality control. Are you suggesting there is no point in this demand, and to just accept the fact that all my applications will break each labview release? And for the record, my software works when I deliver it. Any bugs that have a functional impact have been found and fixed before I deliver product.
I'll give an example: Each time I try to build an exe in labview 8.2, the build has an error. A sub-vi is missing. A sub-vi broke during the build. Each time I have to mass-compile. Every now and then it works after I mass compile and re-save-all. But usually I have to copy an entire vi to a blank vi and re-save it under the existing name. Often I have to do this to multiple vi's, each time trying to build an exe and failing after 20 minutes of the lengthy build process.
Its WEDNESDAY. I've been trying to build an existing app into an exe since MONDAY. This happens every single time I change something. I have EVERY RIGHT to complain. This is costing us a lot of money.
When it takes hundreds of hours to rework every application I have, including thousands of vi's every single time NI has a new release, its not worth purchasing the next release then is it?

ADF Data Binding : Iteration in child records.

I have the following situation and I cannot find a solution :
I have two view objects, StudentList and CourseList. I have also a View Link "StudentsInCourse", connecting "StudentList" and "CourseList" with cardinality M:N. This connection is exposed in "StudentList" with a property getCourses.
I need to build a page (JSP) to show the student list, and for each student, show the courses they attend to (separeted by comma). Something like :
Student1 Course1, Course2, Course3
Student2 Course1
Student3 Course4, Course5
My first attempt to achieve this was (tags :

Well, it didn't work. The iteration doesn`t happen, since the expression ${Row.courses} doesn't appear to be a valid collection. What object is represented by "Row" ? Is that not my ViewRowImpl?
My second attempt was to bind the view link (StudentsInCourse) in the UI Model. So I've put an iterator for it and tried this :

I also read (http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/2004/07/20.html#a354) that "Tree binding" would be the way to do that, and right now I am trying this path...

Tree Binding made the task, BUT it broke my application.
I folled the instructions of "Working with Tree Controls in ADF-Enablad Web Pages" in JDev help.
Although, before Step 9, I had to select the Iterator of the master list (in my case StudentsList) in order to the Data Collection Definitions appear.
This step is not described in the document. Is that correct?
It broke my application, because in this same page I had a button to open a form to input data.
I have a binding for "Create" operation in the StudentsList iterator (the master iterator).
The input for page was being requested by a postback pattern :

When I click this image, I have the error :

It says something like : "Name of object Courses_1641, of type Iterator binding definition is invalid."
That happens with every submit buttons and the number after courses is random, it changes every time.
Well, I changed the "New" button to a link, like :

And it works like this!
The problem is that I can't change all my buttons in the page to links. I need that some of them as submit buttons.

HT5045 Is there a way to install older versions of Java, like Java 6 Update 26 on Mac OS X 10.7 ?

We have an application that worked fine on Java 6 Update 26. Update 29 broke the application. Even though we have fixed the problem, for people using older versions of the application, there is no recourse, if they have upgraded their OS to 10.7. So, is there a way to install Java 6 Update 26 on Mac OS X 10.7 ?

I have a client that just started working remotely and needs to do payroll via her Mac OS X 10.7.5 system via a web browser. The payroll system appears to be ADP/Kronos as far as I can tell. We first tried using Safari and it said the plugin was missing so we downloaded the latest Java and installed. When we tried to run it dumped the following error. (see below)
At this point we decided to try Firefox and rather than a dump we found the message Java 1.6.0_07 required.
At this point we went hunting for an older version of Java and did find one only to be told if was specifically for OS X 10.5.x. My client is running OS X 10.7.5.
I have other clients running Windows that have multiple (older) versions of Java installed including 4, 5 and 6 all on one machine so I'm not sure if this is possible on Mac OS X or not.
Note I am not in charge of the payroll system and have no way of updating that side of things. I may recommend that my client contact her internal Help Desk or revert to using a Windows based system as I know for sure that would be capable of handling these requirements.

For my case, I have create an application using Java. I Home.create() an
ejb once invoke function A in the beans. And then I Thread.sleep arround 10
minutes and then inoke that function again. Then ejbremove() that beans since
it is stateful bean. However, from the vis-broker side do that same thing.
create() an ejb and invoke a function in the beans. And then sleep arround 5
minutes and then invoke that function again. The vis-broker application was
halt. And then core dump. Java application make a call to the ejb is rmi to
rmi and it works properly. But Vis-broker C++ application make a call to ejb
is rmi to iiop and it will halt after 5 minutes idle. So that I think it is
iiop problem.

Download previous version of java

The latest software update for Mac OS X (10.6.8) upgraded the version of java from Apple and broke an application used for work. Are the previous or older versions of java available from Apple for download?
For future updates, Is there a way to modify the software update process to install the the new version but leave the old version in place?

There are two possible problems attempting to reinstall a old version over a new version.
1. The installer almost certainly does a version check and won't let your install the older over the newer.
2. Even if it doesn't check if the old version doesn't everwrite the exact same components there will be components of the newer version lying around which may or many not cause problems.
As for a way to keep an old version in place. That's not what the standard installers do. They overwrite the files they are directed to write, period. This is why you should back up your system prior to any system update specifically so you can revert if something goes wrong or you don't like what the updates (or doesn't).

Multiple installs of causing Data provider internal error (-3000) on Open

Hi,
We have an application written against Oracle ODP 10.1.0.401 that's been deployed out on a web farm working great for some time now, however recently another area has asked to get ODP for 11g installed on that server. The install originally broke our application, but we were able to resolve most of the issues after following all of the appropriate "PATH" reordering and registering appropriate dlls. In fact, we finally got a server completely back up and running both versions with no issues.
Unfortunately, it's a load-balanced server, and while one of the two servers is working correctly, the second seems to be having issues with specific parts of the install. We're trying to fix it on the second server now, and will be doing the same install shortly in our production environments.
I was able to break the error out and create a very simple test app to eliminate as many variables as possible. It appears to be an issue with the driver when we enlist into a Distributed Transaction.
The following code works fine:

I've read a few articles on this particular error and found that it's generally considered an ambiguous error with many potential causes, most of which I've been trying to test and rule out. While I don't have direct access to the server, I've been working with someone who does and they have compared registry settings and registered dlls, and have told me that the 2 servers match, and we've already re-installed the 10.1 drivers hoping it would help, but at this point we're stumped. I've read that it's possible that the COM+ install could have become corrupt, but what confuses me is that just prior to the 11g install, everything works great, and after doing no more than an ODP 11g install, it breaks. Do you have any advice or suggestions we could try?

If I read your post correctly that this is a "everything is equal as far as we know, but box A works and box B doesn't" type situation, my first suggestion would be to get Process Explorer from http://sysinternals.com, and compare the loaded modules between the working and non-working servers. You'll probably find that you're not using the software you think you're using, or have mismatched dlls across homes, or something to that effect. Once you figure out what the difference between the two is, correcting it will probably be the easy part.

[Solved] Set domain name on systemd system

Since the demise of rc.conf I have been unable to find out how to set the system's domain name. I tried "hostnamectl set-hostname hostname.domain" but it just set the hostname to "hostnamedomain". I also tried setting it manually through the hostname utility but it broke GUI applications (could not connect to display error). No luck with google or tge wiki either. Any ideas?

First of all, see "man archlinux" for how to set the hostname.
Second, is Bash treating the period as a special character? Try "hostnamectl set-hostname hostname\.domain".
Thirdly, my hostname is just set to "archsystem". Are you thinking of what goes in "/etc/hosts"?

Safari 3 + 4 Quit Working

I've been running Safari 4 Beta for a few weeks until RSS feeds quit working. Everytime I tried to view a feed, Safari would freeze and sometimes show a "mach error". I don't have the exact code because at the moment, Safari will not respond at all.
I used the uninstaller that comes with v4 to downgrade to v3, same problem.
If I login under a guest account, Safari works fine.
I've tried everything I've found suggested in these forums for problems similar to mine. Resetting Safari, erasing plists, caches, libraries, 3rd-party apps, etc., same problem.
Apple Care had me erase a few files from both my local user Library and the system Library to completely wipe Safari from my computer. But that broke every application I had other than Firefox and iCal.
I've reinstalled os x and got my other apps back, but Safari still will not display feeds. In fact it will do nothing but show me a white page and a beach ball. (Question: can I remove the "Previous Systems" folder from my HD?)
Sooo back to square one! Anyone have any ideas?

This really isn't a beta issue; rather, one affecting the RSS database.
Sounds like one or more feeds has corrupted the database. As the RSS database is maintained in your User Library, the same problem will not show up in other user accounts.
RSS database feeds are found in your User Account>Library>PubSub folder. In that folder, open the Database folder and move to the desktop the Database.sqlite3 file. Then, restart Safari. If the problem recurs, go back to the PubSub folder, open the Feeds folder. There, move the contents to the trash, then restart Safari.
You'll need to reestablish your custom settings for the RSS feeds. Also, they will repopulate, i.e. show older articles as "unread" until you open the various feeds.
