10.5.2 Kernel Panic When Put To Sleep

After upgrading to 10.5.2 yesterday, my rig has experienced a kernel panic four of the six times I have put it to sleep.
If anyone else has had this problem, were you able to resolve it?
And can anyone help me analyze this panic report? Thanks, if I can't solve this, I will visit the La Cantera genius bar and report back in a few days.

Final update on this (unfortunately)...after ten days of troubleshooting 10.5.2, I have reverted back to 10.5.1.
I tried a clean install of 10.5 and a combo upgrade to 10.5.2 on both an internal and external hard drive...with and without the graphics update; I zapped my PRAM; I replaced my battery; I cannot run an Apple Hardware test due to the processor upgrade that I have installed, but no problems were indicated by TechTool Pro, DiskWarrior or Disk Utility. The bottom line is that 10.5.2 and the hard drive connected to my ATA bus will not coexist. My last gasp was installing 10.5.2 on the internal hard drive on the ATA bus and using it as the startup disk; install and restart were uneventful, but I was unable to open any application or folder without the system crashing/freezing. Again, I have not had any problems with this drive using any other system.
Part of me hopes this is a bug that gets resolved in 10.5.3, because this G4 has been a great
computer for over seven years now. But then, so was my Mac Plus...and I only fire that up once or twice a year now...

    Hi,
I have an Imac 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo desktop which I have upgraded to lion.
Recently I keep getting kernel panics when waking from sleep mode and I cannot figure out what it is.
I am not very computer savy - I.e. I use a computer but don't know programming etc.
The computer then asks me to shut down and restart.
Any help would be much appreciated as this is driving me crazy.

Hi, for other peoples information - I finally figured out the problem. It was actually a faulty RAM module which I had bought. I had upgraded from 2 to 4 gb of RAM using an approved type of RAM for my particular computer. Finally I removed one module of RAM (after doing nearly everything else under the sun including trying to reinstall the operating system and wipe the computer etc) and the computer worked fine.

  • Kernel panic when waking from sleep

My eMac (1Ghz, 256 Mb RAM, dual boot OS 9.2.2/OS X 10.2.8(upgraded from 10.2.4)) has a recurring but intermittent issue where it suffers from a kernel panic when waking from sleep.
In the past I managed to fix the issue by resetting PRAM and NVRAM, but this doesn't seem to work anymore.
Things I've found out until now:
    - Apple Hardware Test and Techtool Deluxe can't find anything wrong (all tests are passed).
    - No kernel panic log is written - apparently the kernel panic occurs before the log can be written.
    - Crash appears to be network-related. My IP address and network card address are shown at the bottom of the panic window.
    - After restarting, Finder windows revert to a state from two or three days ago...
    - Login items aren't the problem. I removed them all - this doesn't make any difference.
    - no weird things in the startup items folders, AFAIK.
I'm on the verge of reinstalling OS X, but I think I already did this a couple of years ago, and it didn't help.
    Please help.
    Thomas

Nominally, you'd download the OS X Update Combo 10.2.8 after reinstalling 10.2.4, then use Software Update to identify any additional security and other software updates. There was an issue with early builds of 10.2 failing the 10.2.8 udate if done directly, but working fine if one first updated to an intermediate version such as 10.2.6; I think that problem affected 10.2 through 10.2.3 and your 10.2.4 should be good to go directly to 10.2.8, but if there are any problems, you can go back to 10.2.4, then search the Apple Downloads link for 10.2.6, then 10.2.8
With 10.2.x, it's prudent to run Repair Permissions after each OS and security update before moving on to the next.

  • Mid-2012 macbook pro gets kernel panics when waking from sleep

    Hi all,
I got a new mid-2012 Macbook Pro running Lion (10.7.5) at the end of Oct which started kernel panicking pretty much from day one. The kernel panics only occur when the computer is put to sleep and reawaken after more than an hour or so has passed. I get a grey screen that eventually shows text like "Your computer was restarted because of a problem. Please wait a few seconds or press any key to continue" and then the OS boots up again. Bizarrely, this doesn't usually happen if the computer has only been asleep for a short time - i.e. 15 min or less.
Below is the kernel panic log, which seems to suggest there's an issue with the Nvidia GeForce GT 650M graphics card.
Anyone have any idea what the problem is? Advice is much appreciated.

  • Kernel Panics when waking from Sleep

I'm getting many panics sometimes a couple of times of day with a MBP 2.0Ghz. No funny USB devices plugged in.
So there is an extra 1GB ram, but a 5 pass Memtest shows the memory as fine. Hardware Diagnostics shows no problems.
Is this a hardware fault with the Core Duo. I'm thinking that because of the 'cpu 1 caller 0x0019CAEF' in the first lines of the panic logs. And the error is always the same one.
Is this one for Apple Repair ?

A lot of things can cause a kernel panic, but let's first try resetting the SMC. Here's how:
Turn off the computer (if you just had another kernel panic, this is especially convenient! :D) and remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for at least five seconds.
Put battery back in and turn the computer on.
See if this solves your issue. If not, you might want to try an archive and install, or you could just call AppleCare for assistance (who will in turn probably ask you to do an archive and install). To do an archive and install, just put in the OS X install disc, go through the steps, but when you click "options," choose archive and install.
If you still get the kernel panics after the reinstall of os x, you've got a hardware problem on your hands.

  • Occasional Kernel Panics when Waking From Sleep

I bought my black MacBook a couple weeks after release and have had no problems so far. However, twice I had a kernel panic directly after waking from sleep. It happens so infrequently that it's a real curiosity to me when it does happen, since I've put the machine to sleep and woke it at least twice each day since I've owned it.
Yes I do have third-party ram, but it tests out fine with memtestx and Apple's own hardware diagnostics. I'd point the finger at it as well if it happened more than 2 out of probably 100 sleep/wake cycles.
    Here's the panic.log:

Since kernel panics may be caused by hardware, OS, and software you'll need to take a very systematic approach. But if your computer is panicking only when waking I'd look at hardware hardest. Do you have any peripherals connected? If so disconnect them. Also, be sure that once you've put the computer to sleep that you don't disconnect any firewire or USB devices. The Mac seems to really hate that. If you are connected to a USB hub the hub could be the issue. And unfortunately a Mac isn't the best test bed for memory checking so even if your memory is coming up okay from memtest it could still be marginal.

I've been having some trouble with my 2012 MacBook Air. It was running perfectly until about 2 weeks ago. Now, when waking from sleep, I am getting Kernel Panics that force the restart of my Mac. I was wondering if anyone could provide insight on the issue.
An example log file is below:
    Mon Jun 17 18:34:31 2013

The problem stemmed from something related to USB. I suggest uninstalling the third-party software responsible for installing these items:
    org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxNetAdp          4.2.6
    org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxNetFlt          4.2.6
    org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxUSB          4.2.6

    com.silex.driver.sxuptp          1.10.1
    com.globaldelight.driver.BoomDevice          1.1
Alternatively you can boot into Safe Mode which will not load those device drivers, and see if you panics cease. If they do, then you can uninstall the software. BTW, the current version of Virtual Box is VirtualBox-4.2.12-84980-OSX.

  • New iBook, kernel panics when awakened from sleep

I've been going nuts for several weeks now due to issues with my new iBook G4. When it is not plugged in, it may be fine when it wakes from sleep, or else it may wake to a black screen of death or else wake up and then freeze (requiring a restart) a few seconds after waking up.
I've reset the PMU several times, removed the third-party RAM (which I thought resolved the issue, until two crashes today when waking up unplugged), reset the PRAM, ran Disk Utility, did an archive and install of 10.4.2, etc. For a day, it would also go through infinite wake/sleep cycles when plugged in with the lid closed, but it resolved on its own within 24 hours. I was all set to send it in to Apple when the issue resolved itself on its own.
But I'm stumped as to the nature of the kernel panics/freezes, etc. They only happen when the iBook is unplugged from AC, USB, etc. and it is not 100% predictable. It may happen the second time I'm waking it up after not being connected to anything. Or it may be fine.
Here's the panic log from today, the details of which are identical to the panic that happened an hour earlier:

Suggestions? Is this really a hardware issue relating to the AirPort card, or is it something related to kernel extensions? It does not appear to be a user folder-related issue (I tested that as well). Thanks!

I've been having similar problems with my iBook G4/1GHz computer. I haven't yet figured it out when or why it crashes after sleep, but this is sure: everytime there is USB mouse connected, it does that crashing. I bought mighty mouse to make sure, it wasn't the mouse which caused the problems. But no, it wasn't the mouse.
I've tried to google some solutions, but haven't found any. This is very annoying problem. Anyway I can get that crashlog after reboot?
    Symptons:
When lid is opened, fan's are started, but no picture or network connection or anything is alive. Display is black. Requires reboot to get it up and running again.
I have run hardware tests on processor, usb, video ram and ram and all have passed.

  • Kernel panic when resuming from sleep

I've been getting random kernel panics on my MacBook Pro when resuming from sleep. That is, only when resuming from sleep - otherwise the computer is fine.
I read some other discussions on here regarding kernel panics, but it seems that an inspection of the panic.log file usually uncovered a bad USB driver or something of that nature. I have no extra peripherals on my machine, and the panic.log is fairly vanilla. In fact, every entry in the log looks like this:

    Rod Hagen suggests:
    Disconnect everything, then
    1) Boot up from OSX DVD or CD
    2) Repair disk and repair permissions using disk utility
    3) If now possible to boot from the internal download, run the "Combo" Update, and then install the SU.
    4) if not possible then do an "archive and install" of the OS while booted from the OSX DVD/CD before checking the drive again and updating
    5) If not possible to boot from CD/DVD do a PRAM and/or PMU reset.
( … if the person concerned has an up to date backup on a bootable drive, then they should simply check the internal drive properly with DU and then clone the backup back to the internal, check the internal drive again, and then install the SU update.)

  • Experiencing Kernel Panic when computer sleeps???

I have a late 2013 MBP... I recently updated my OS to 10.9.2 Immediately after updating my computer began experiencing kernel panics when it would sleep for various amounts of time (couldn't recognize a real pattern). After a few days the problem seemed to happen more frequently and eventually happened everytime the computer went to sleep. I contacted Apple Support and they have deduced that it is a hardware issue (doesn't make sense to me since it only started happening after a software update?). I did install an aftermarket SSD, so I thought perhaps that was the problem, so I installed a new one... to no avail, still experiencing the same problem. I've come up with a temporary solution... I simply have my computers settings adjusted so that my computer does not sleep. This obviously has not solved my problem, but is a temporary fix. Anybody have any ideas as to what is going on???? Thanks in advance!

The version of virtual box I have on my system may not be the most absolute current up to date, but it is certainly the mac os version. Besides, virtual box wasn't running. It's just a freebie alternative to Parallels allowing me to run windows. But again, unless I'm doing something in windows, virtual box isn't even fired up. It wasn't last night when I put the system to sleep.
How do I find the hardware test that came with my system? Is it on the install dvd? What's it called?
    THANKS!!

As the title above says, for the second night in a row, my new iMac (2012) has had a kernel panic when I perform that action. Any or all of the following third-party system modifications may be contributing to your problem:
    SX-Virtual Link
    Soundflower
If the panic is recurrent, I suggest you uninstall them, one at a time, according to the developers' instructions, to see whether you can identify which one is at fault. A conflict between modifications may be involved. Reboot and test after each uninstallation.
Back up all data before making any changes.

  • Kernel Panic when Updating from Mac OS X 10.3.9 to 10.4.7 Server Software

I tried updating our G5 Xserve with the 10.4.7 DVD. Since I have only a CD drive in the Xserve, I used a Mac Mini in target mode with the Server Install DVD in the MacMini DVD drive. Upon restart at the beginning of the install process, I get a Kernal panic.
I have a Village Tronic MPDDpro graphics card with latest drivers. 1 GB of memory. (I also tried using an external DVD firewire drive, but get the same kernel panic when Xserve tries to boot from the OS X Server DVD)
I was unable to get the xrdiags to provide any output. Tried unsuccessfully to get a Mac Mini running OS X Server to Netboot properly, so tried with xrdiags on a CD. Again no output back to the terminal administering the xrdiags start.
I tried putting the Xserve in target mode and installing the 10.4.7 from the Mac Mini. Install process went through successfully, but when I rebooted the Xserve, and before getting to the Setup Assistant, I got the Kernel Panic again.
Needing then to re-install 10.3, I reinstalled the 10.3 Server with the original disks and updated to 10.3.9 and reinstalled all the application software and setup users etc, (days of work) all went well with 10.3.9 Server.
I need to get up to 10.4.7 soon!
Any ideas what to do next?

Thanks for helping. I'm green at this! Getting definite experience as you can see, but can you help me with an actual real live make and model of a graphics card that is known to work on the G5 Xserve?
I called ATI re: their Radeon 9200, and was told by tech support that they do not support this card on the G5 Xserve. Yet, Scott Maiden, in his post above, referenced an ATI Radeon card.
What cards are being successfully used? Can I have a list?
Apple Tech Support will not give any such list. Maybe they know of some problem with all? (When I bought the Xserve in September of 2004, Apple Tech Support recommended the VillageTronic card.) The new, yet un-released Quad-core 64-bit Intel Xeon Xserve has "built-in graphics functionality, with mini-DVI output and support for industry-standard VGA displays," according to Apple's web site. Hopefully this will eliminate this type of problem in future releases of Xserve. But for the nasty here and now...
All I need is an inexpensive graphics card to administer this Xserve. Currently I am using a 21” SuperMatch SVGA monitor.
Thank to all who have helped.

    jamescalvin-
The only cards I have found to work reliably in the
G5 XServe are the cheap-arse PCI models. I do not use
my XServe for serious graphics work so I do not know
how it works with other cards.
Can you swap in a known compatible PCI card for
    testing purposes?

  • Kernel panics when in sleep mode

I bought a macbook pro about a month ago. It first came with Mountain Lion installed on it. I began having kernel panics when I put the laptop into sleep mode by closing the lid. After some time I would open the lid to find that the laptop had rebooted with a kernel panic. This continued to sporadically happen. I called apple and went to the apple store. The mbp passed their hardware tests so they did a clean Yosemite installation. I am still having the kernel panics. They all look nearly identical. I'm not sure what could be causing this. Any ideas are appreciated.

Apparently the forum software here is preventing my from posting my entire log.

After doing a clean install of Yosemite this same kernel panic continued to happen and I started getting gpuRestarts as well. Finally they replaced my logic board at the apple store and so far no more panics. My google results lead me to believe this was a failing GPU.

  • Kernel Panics when machine is idle

    Good day all,
I just purchased my MacBook Pro last week -- 2.4 GHz. I am new to OS X. I have gotten these Kernel Panics when the machine has been left idle -- 30 minutes or more. Does anyone have any idea why I am getting this Kernel Panics? What does the panic log below revel about the problem?

I unchecked the "put hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" option in the Energy Saver configuration under System Preferences and this seems to have solved the problem. I left it idle last night for hours and not problem. I will keep monitoring it.
In the mean time, if anyone knows how to read the panic log (or can suggest a tool to do so), please post a reply.
