10.5.2 Parallels and Sleep Problem

After installing 10.5.2, I cannot access the internet using Parallels and the restart from sleep problem has come back. I did a full backup just before upgrading to 10.5.2 and when I boot up from the backup done just before I updated, things work ok, so it really looks like it has something to do with 10.5.2. Comments or Suggestions?

Check your network preference pane: do both the "Parallels Host-Guest" and "Parallels NAT" config items have real IP addresses? (They'll probably be in the 10.x.x.x range if so.) Or do they have self-assigned 169.x.x.x addresses?
If the latter, that's your problem: nothing to do with 10.5.2, but rather a bug seemingly introduced in build 5584 of Parallels Desktop. People are discussing this and other problems at length in the Parallels forum at:

  • Bluetooth Not Available and Sleep Problem

Please could somebody offer some suggestions for my problem.
I have a similar problem to some posts on this forum. My bluetooth status becomes "not available" after differing amounts of time.
I do not think it is linked with USB devices because it has happened without connecting devices. When this has happened and I close the lid, it turns off the screen but the white on the front stays solid (does not flash). After that, I cannot wake my macbook and have to hold the power to reset.
When it has restarted the bluetooth and sleep work perfectly.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Satellite L505D-S5965 got shutdown, hibernate and sleep problem after Windows 7 upgrade

I bought my Satellite L505D-S5965 last August. Everything worked fine on Vista. Last month I upgraded it to Windows 7 (Home premium, build 7600), then it started having problem to shutdown, hibernate and sleep. Half of the time, it will shutdown, hibernate or sleep just fine, however, the other half of the time it just never turns off.
For shutdown, it will go to the shutdown screen for 10 minutes until the a blue screen comes up, telling something about windows experience a crash and dumping memory, then it restarts itself.
For hibernation and sleep, it will go to the normal black screen but the hard disk light never turns off (i.e. the hardisk would keep running forever).
It will be a big help if someone can help me with that, I just don't want to keep doing the "hard turn off".

Hey thats great posting and detailed, thank you! :)
Im wondering how you found it out.
But I want to add something: Before you do or change something in Windows registry, make a backup of it. In worst case you restore the old Windows registry. Just to be sure ;)

  • G700 Windows 8.1 Fastboot and sleep problem

    Hello!
I have problem with Windows 8.1 and Lenovo G700:
    1) Fastboot option not working properly...
    2) System can't  go sleep
I was looking for solution for this problems and found.... I have to disable all network interfaces in G700
(LAN and WLAN with Bluetooth) then fastboot and sleep options working fine.
I have a question about compatibility G700 and Windows 8.1?

I can't help with the SecureBoot issue. I have the same problem with my videocard not being SecureBoot compatible (A GTX 670). The sleep issue though, is it an issue with like... you can only hibernate, but you can't sleep? Windows 8 didn't come with that for me, but I found a work around.
Open a command prompt with administrator privilege and type: powercfg /hibernate off
This should change the hibernate to sleep.
If you want an icon for it just make a batch file: rundll32 powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState (0,1,0)
And if you need a timer on it (I use this pretty often myself) use this: powershell sleep <seconds> | rundll32 powrprof.dll SetSuspendState (0,1,0)
And if you're curious about the (0,1,0) thing. It's all boolean, so 1 or 0. (A,B,C), A: Hibernate, B: Critical (in XP/2003 it forces the sleep, but in newer versions it asks for permission to suspend), C: Disable wake event (Wake on LAN would be disabled if this were 1, for example).

  • Download, battery, and sleep problems on macbook pro with retina display after upgrading to Mountain lion

After waiting a few days to download OS X Mountain lion, I finally installed it on my new MacBook with retina display a couple days ago. I love the interface and all the new features, but I've noticed some problems I really need to resolve. I'm constantly downloading large files and I noticed thhis change:
Before, on Lion, I could download files from Safari or the Internet and the computer would sleep whenever it was set to on energy preferences and the download would resume. This would let the computer conserve energy so the download could progress further when on battery. Now, I noticed that my computer never goes to sleep! Its set to have the display sleep in 5 minutes and the computer in 15 on both battery and when plugged in, but it never does either. I don't know if it has to do with the fact that power nap is on even when using battery. So now the Mac is constantly on when downloading something and instead of downloading a one gigabyte file that would take up 15% of my battery, it takes up 60% since it never sleeps. When I tried downloading something and then manually putting the computer to sleep, the download was interrupted and it said Wi-Fi connection lost so I have to start the download over again.
That's basically all three problems in one situation. I even put the brightness all the way on low so the screen is black when downloading, but it still uses up much more battery than before. Can someone help find a solution?

Did you try turning off power nap?

  • Heat and sleep problem with my new Macbook Pro

Basically I noticed with my new MBP the computer can become very hot and the fan gets very loud after about ~2 hours of working in Maya.. which I guess might be reasonable.
However, my main concern is, even when I close the lid of the MBP, the heat seems to stay (I just closed it for about 30 minutes, and it's still as hot as it was before I closed it).
I'm working on High Performance.. maybe my macbook isn't sleeping when I close it?
I have noticed (I THINK) that the white apple on the outside glows sometimes randomly even when I have the lid closed, but I'm not completely sure.
    Anyone else have this problem?

Hi yes I've had/got the same problem. Received my new MacBook Pro only last week and this has happened twice. The machine gets so hot I can't even touch the battery area!!!! It only seems to happen with the power connected and when the lid is closed. Fortunately the Mac was on my wooden desk or it might have melted plastic!
The Mac cooled down after unplugging from power supply, but wow it was hot....and noisy!
The only way to get the Mac back was to either press the power/off until it shut down, or take the battery out - after it cooled down.
Reported the problem to Mac Support immediately, but no response.
THIS IS DANGEROUS!!! Be careful, I don't know what would happen if it was left overnight for example - could easily cause a FIRE!!!!!

    MacBook Air 13-inch, Early 2014, ПО  OS X 10.9.5 (13F34)
The system seems overloaded, big delays on keyboard typing. Activity Monitor shows kernel_task consume 300-400% of CPU, but otherwise system does not look as overloaded - laptop is not hot

Also there is problems with system wakeup. It is impossible to wakeup system after closing the lid for more then 20 seconds, it turns off.
I think you have to add battery info.

In safe mode the problem does not go away. Actual overheating the computer does not have, it is cold. The problem is with the power on and without. All programs are not included in the basic package, I removed. I also tried to reinstall the OS with the protection of personal data. The problem exist. The problem may be due to high humidity? I live in Sri Lanka. And there is a problem with sleep mode.

  • "Chirping" Noise and Sleep problem

My 1st gen IMac G5 has been making some "chirping noises"for the last six months. They seem to be coming from the lower left quadrant of the monitor. They really get busy when the computer is starting up from being shut down. I am hoping this isn't a hard drive issue, as I have already had one replaced after a failure.
I also have a problem with putting the computer to sleep. I usually have to sleep it twice for it to stay asleep. Then when I check it again the next day, sometimes it is awake. It wakes up to my login screen and I have no screen saver for that one.
I would appreciate any input regarding these issues.
    Thanks, Bob Bullock

    To Apple Discussions!
I have no idea what could be causing the "chirping" sound as you are starting up from a shutdown unless there is a cricket inside your computer that doesn't like cold bootups.
Since you mentioned a previous HD issue, see if you qualify for the iMac G5 Repair Extension Program for Video and Power Issues

  • Sudden motion and sleep problem?

    Greetings, all.
I bought a Macbook a few weeks ago. Sometimes, while I am in middle of typing a document or some other way using the computer, it will suddenly go to sleep. Hitting keys does not usually wake it up. Most of the time I have to close the lid, let it sit for a minute or two, open the lid again, and that usually brings it back. I sent it in to Apple, and, naturally, they couldn't recreate the problem.
I have tried to isolate the conditions under which this problem usually occurs, but I couldn't see any pattern. Until it occurred to me that every time I remember it happening, I was using it on my lap, which means it was constantly moving around, if only a slightly. In fact, sometimes it happens just as I move it to change sitting position.
My question is, could this in some way be related to the sudden motion dectector? If so, is there something I can do about it?
To the best of my recollection this problem has never happened while resting on a completely stable surface, like a table top. Just to test it out, I have only been using it on level surfaces the past couple of days, and it hasn't happened once. This might also explain why Apple couldn't recreate the problem in the week they had it. I assume they weren't testing it on their laps.
    Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Try restting the Power Management Unit (PMU). This is probably a small button inside the computer. Or, try Zapping PRAM (optapple+RP on startup, and listen for 3 "bongs" before releasing the keys).

  • MacBook Pro 15" and sleep problem

    Hello:
I have a new MacBook Pro 15". Lately, it does not go to sleep when in battery. It used to do so without any problems. My only guess is that after updating the MSN Messenger, something has changed and if I run MSN Messenger, even if I quit it, something stays running on the background that stops the machine from going into sleep mode.
Would this be possible or could there be another reason?

That may be the case. You can look in Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor to see what processes are running after you quit MSN.
You might also consider Adium (or aMSN if you want video) for chatting, instead of MSN Messenger.

    Hi dwellas
I understand you are having issues with shutting down the computer and not being able to wake it up.
You  might have a  application or process running in the background that is not shutting down properly. Close all tray applications that you can, make sure you close all programs first, and try again. If that works, you need to see what you have installed that may be causing this.
You can do a msconfig and turn off start up programs to see if it is still something running in the background.
Here is a url to temporarily disable all the start up programs to see if one of them is causing any issues.

  • Cure for iphoto and sleep problem?

If iPhoto is running, my mac will not sleep properly. true for iPhoto 4 and 5 on imac DV SE and iPhoto 5 on mac mini. Many are experiencing this. I have searched for an answer here to no avail. Is there a resolution to this problem?

Fortunately, Google Chrome crashes in exactly the same way, and the geniuses at Google have devised a solution that does not require reinstalling the entire operating system.  The same steps that they recommend also work for fixing iPhoto.
Be sure that you are logged in as a user with administrative privileges (System Preferences → Users & Groups → Current User → ☑ Allow user to administer this computer).
    Launch the Terminal application.
Inside the Terminal, run sudo update_dyld_shared_cache -force

After the command completes (in about a minute), restart the computer.

  • Wake up and sleep issues in Mac OS X 10.5.8

    Hi,
Sometimes, after being sleeping for more than a day, when my macbook wakes up it suddenly sleeps by itself (after 15-45 seconds of using).
Usually I close the lid and wait 30 seconds. After this, I open the lid and the problem is solved. But, when it doesn’t happen I have to restart the computer (what is happenig more and more often). Does anyone know what is happening?
As I read in some posts, there are some bugs in Mac OS X 10.5.7 related with wake up and sleep problems. Does anyone know if these bugs remain in the 10.5.8 version? How is it possible to fix this problem?
    Thanks,
    Luiz Goldoni

    Try a SMC reset.

  • New computer, still having SLEEP problems... aarrghh!

I just switched from my PPC 2x1.25G4 MDD to the new MacPro 2x3.2... and i'm still having sleep issues!
And this was before I even migrated over my system (which I did manually). I played around on my new, virgin system... and sleep was all wonky!
My previous problems w/ the G4 started right after the 10.5.2 update. I could GO to sleep, and wake up, but my monitor wouldn't come back on! Also, my USB and firewire would stop responding unless I did a reset.
Now, it's very similar. I can go to sleep, but when I hit the space bar, or click the mouse to wake up, the MacPro's fan starts WHIIRRING very loudly... and, more often than not, I get a grey screen with an apple, and the "progress gear wheel", which means the computer is starting up!
Again, I have NOT migrated all my old stuff over. Just very specific apps, and user info.
So what's going on? I've searched these forums and elsewhere, and sleep problems are very common w/ Leopard.
    Any ideas?
    e

Two of the most common causes for sleep issues are peripherals that aren't known to be compatible with Energy Saver, and peripherals that are underpowered plugged into the displays which aren't always able to give those peripherals sufficient power. As for fan issues, some people are more sensitive to fan noise than others, but some fan noise is normal, while others are not. Find an authorized service center that has a quiet room where they can investigate whether the noise is normal, or is willing to make a house call to determine it. I would not ask someone who has been sitting in the noise filled Apple Store to diagnose if the noise is normal.

  • Unresponsive Keyboard and Trackpad problem AT STARTUP + Sleep problem

When I turn on my computer it boots the OS and everything works except for the trackpad and the keyboard. I wait for about 5-7 minutes and then the trackpad and the keyboard start working.
    Additional problems:
If I try to sleep my computer, the screen turns off, but the computer never stops working, so I have to force it to shut down.
    Temporal Solutions
    1) Boot in safe mode, it solves the trackpad/keyboard problems but not the Sleeping problem
    Attempted fixes
    1) Conencted external keyboard mouse/keyboard. Doesn't work
    2) Reset the battery controller.
    3) Reinstalled 10.6
    4) Installed 10.5
    5) Installed 10.6.3
    Known Stuff:
    1) The trackpad/keyboard are always connected as I can move the mouse and use some gestures with the Better Touch Tool app, and the keyboard works because if I click the Caps Lock key, the small led turns on.
    2) Also, I have the HardwareGrowler app which tells me if hardware gets connected or disconnected and it never tells me anything about the trackpad/keyboard getting disconnected.
    3) The OS is working at startup because apps show stuff and get updated and I can still get growl notifications.
NOTE: This is an intermittent problem, about 1 out of 10 times I turn on the computer I GET the problem.
    Thanks a lot!

I came across a similar issue as the original poster. My trackpad and keyboard are unresponsive for 5 - 7 minutes after startup. I've updated my OS to 10.6.4 twice and it's still happening. I recognized this behavior after the Preferences->Network pane froze while I was trying to remove a VPN setting. Removing /Library/Preferences/SystemConfigurations did not help the problem.
Do any of you have advice on debugging the issue?
