10.5.2 Screenshot bug

Here is yet another bug from the 10.5.2 update. I minor one, but nevertheless a bug.
When taking a screenshot - cmdshift3 - you get a black duplicate.
Anyone else having the same problem?
One more thing: I wonder if someone from Apple take notice of the major topics here?

One more thing: considered this subject http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6601315#6601315 - is it supposed to take a screeshot of the display that's not active?
Before the 10.5.2 update it just took a screenshot of the active display. Now it takes one of both, whether it's active or not.
I'd prefer it just took a screenshot of the active display, single or plural.

  • Another screenshot bug?

    hi there,
using leopard since some weeks now. when taking screenshots i very often use cmdctrl+shift4 then spacebar to take screenshots of windows. when i copy them into photoshop or keynote, the dropshadow is black, so that the whole screenshot gets a black border, which is very annoying... if i dont save them in the clipboard and do cmdshift4 and load from the desktop, everything is fine...
does somebody know how to fix this?
    thanx. oli

  • Screenshot: Bug on Win XP/Athlon XP

I was attempting to create a new folder in the collections and LR made my computer chug and freeze in 5 second or so incriments, apparently as it ran some program or script called "bezel" on into infinity. The program itself was not responding as i slowly navagated my mouse to the cancel button. LR quit after closing it in the windows Task Manager.

Many of us with the Bezel problem are frustrated by the following generic help page for system errors and freezes. It has no less than 22 different options to try and some of them are clearly over the top for the Bezel problem. http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=333653&sliceId=2
Well, after working with Adobe support, they narrowed it down to just a few items that were most likely to work. The specific action that fixed the error for me was to turn off hardware acceleration in my graphics card (described in the last part of item #10 in the linked page). I haven't had a Bezel incident since.
If you have the Bezel issue on your computer, please try turning off hardware acceleration and then posting here whether it worked for you.

  • Video supported on 3GS

Wondering what video formats are supported for the 3GS. I tried to download a wmv and received a message that file format not supported. Is there a flip for mac app to support wmv files.
I also tried to download a .mov and was told server not configured properly. Any help on proper server configuration would be greatly appreciated.
Lastly, I am unable to play videos I put up on You Tube. Message states file format not supported.
    Thanks for you help

Up to now, there was absolutely no streaming WMV support. Now, the free "Streamer" has been released, which allows some kind of support. It isn't compatible with all streams, but is still certainly welcome.
I've posted a dedicated review to http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/87/ever-wanted-watch-wmv-tv-streams-your-iphone-n ow-you-can , should you want to see some screenshots, bug reports etc.
(Disclaimer: I'm a blogger for the given site. I, now and then (say, once a year), receive compensation (e.g. hardware or paying for my airplane tickets for some fairs) for writing for them - but I couldn't make both ends meet based on this.)

How can I disable the assistive touch programmatically ? This is like a bug. Though the Guided access is enabled a user can take screenshot of my application content. How can I solve this ? any idea ....

Question: Do you think the response from the support staff is correct? I mean, surely, I can't be the only CF user on a shared box whose other users need to modify the date and time within their applications. Even if they do it at the application level for their domain, surely it wouldn't affect mine, would it? That was what was implied by the support people, but I have a feeling they are way off, or covering for some goof-up on their end. I struggled like hell yesterday trying to get this to work and I did not get very far at all.
I found an interesting tutorial here which does a comparison of time zones and, theoretically, this might do the trick. But if what the guy told me was nonsense then I won't bother with it. For the record, our calendar has been working fine for about a week now.

  • Photos app bug resurrects long-removed photos (related to PNG alpha)

Wanted to report/discuss a possible privacy concern and image glitch, and understand it better for submission to Apple's feedback page: the iPad (and maybe iPhone) Photos app will consitently resurrect long-deleted photos in your Camera Roll, under certain circumstances. These are long-removed photos (as in removed many months ago, prior to the iOS 5 update), and possibly only the reduced-size thumbnail versions.
Note: as near as I can tell, the deleted photos were NOT originally from the camera roll! That's where they resurface, but I believe they are photos from other albums, maybe once which used to by synched to iPad but which I no longer synch. So "removed" might mean deleted or it might mean "no longer synched to iPad"... the images are so old I can't recall.
So the bug, I'm guessing, it two-fold:
    1) The Photos app (and/or iPhoto during wired synch?) is not fully removing photos (or at least, their thumbs). They're no longer visible in Photos app, but are being retained somewhere on the device.
    2) A glitch in the Photos camera roll PNG handling (which I think may be new with iOS 5) causes those old images ro re-surface when you add a PNG to the camera roll. (The old photos were JPEG, but the image that triggers the bug must be a PNG with alpha channel)
I have seen this on both an iPad 1 and iPad 2, running iOS 5.
    Here's how to reproduce it:
    1) Synch some photos to your iPad, then deselect them for synching and re-synch (so they're not there any more). Also, add some photos or screenshots to the camera roll and then delete them. I say to do both because I'm not 100% where the old photos come from, and I'm hoping this covers all bases! Actually, most people have already done these things in the past, and can probably skip this step.
    2)  Generate a transparent PNG using the art app Procreate (and probably any app that saves PNGs to the camera roll with alpha channel). All you have to do is scribble somethign into a blank Procreate canvas, then export it to your photo album. There is no need to do anything special to get an alpha channel or PNG format: you always get that. (Unless you used the Fill command to completely cover the canvas.) Now in the camera roll there should be your scribble on a transparent background. You can email it to yourself and see that clearly in Photoshop or Preview.
    3) Here's the glitch: look at your camera roll (thumbnails view) and you'll see that the alpha-transparent background of the image has become one of your old removed photos! Tap it to enlarge and the alpha becomes black (which is fine, although it may seem odd if you intended to paint onto the default white canvas). But for just a moment, before you see the black, you will get a full-size glimpse of the old photo. (Or, maybe, an enlargement of the thumbnail?)
    4) If you keep saving more alpha PNGs, you'll keep seeing more and different old photos coming back to life in the alpha regions of the thumbnails (and, briefly, at full size).
    5) If you delete all those PNGs and then save some new ones, you'll see the same sequence of old photos reappear again.
Needed fix: removed phtos/thumbnails should be properly purged, and alpha PNGs should show simply black (or some default background) at all times.

Ok, I replicated it and I don't like it! I didn't use the one you marked cause I couldn't call it up properly but I did Bing
transparent gifs and loaded up 3, one was totally invisible in the thumbnail and I could clearly see one of my pics perfectly in the thumbnail but when I brought it to page the gif filled the frame.
I have no idea where the pic came from, I mean I recognize it but from where in the album I have no idea.
Oh yeah, I was wrong about the first pic coming to page, it wasn't the same image but a different one...and I have no idea how the one that came up, (what i thought was the underlying pic) did, or how it got there or even from where.
This is some weird stuff though not as weird as that silly *** movie, what a load of tripe; I should have just spent my
time on this, it's infinitely more enjoyable!
Ok, here's the consensus from my layman iPad view:
What happened now and most probably before was a 'transparent gif' or a partially transparent gif like the one I spoke of first that I could see the edge of or the outer perimeter of, the underlining image with the gif taking up say 3/4 of the thumbnail; this it what it was.
This is totally apparent to me now because of your having me import a totally transparent gif which was invisible over my pic, thus the freaky part I didn't like...keying the thumbnail with one thing and ending up with something totally different when brought to page.
Still doesn't explain where this silly iPad is grabbing these pics from?
But here's something funny; my camera roll shows say 9,200 pics but my, 'iMy System' app say I have like 11,300 which I always thought was a fluke, that it was just reading wrong but maybe it's seeing something we're not.           What if all those pics we're deleting to save space or just generally culling have never left the system?                     Maybe that goofy app is really reading the true count!
Those others up above us here who mentioned privacy concerns.. this could be whats going on, there's a ghost
in the machine and it be our old pics and god knows what else floating around in that iPads memory.
Ok, I'm crazy tired and I have to wrap this up. Least now we know how to replicate this but on the other hand I think we opened up an even bigger can of worms... the mystery of where all those images are hiding in our iPads?
I haven't hardwired to a computer since I upgraded to ios5 so whatever's going on here, leastwise for me is iPad
based and can't be blamed for synching issues like you discuss up above unless what I'm grabbing here is old stuff
reimported back into my pad from the mainframe when I was backed up for the ios5 upgrade?
Oh well, let me know what you think. Please do forgive my not getting back to you sooner on account of the movie
but you already know I regret choosing that over this! Hope you had a good night and thanks...

  • Photoshop adds a stroke to my text -- bug?

    Good afternoon!
I have several Photoshop CS3 files that are exhibiting a strange problem.  This symptop ONLY happens when I create a new text layer in one of these files.
I create a new text layer and type some text.  Then when I select part of the text and set it to a differnet color (so there are two separate colors being used in the same text layer), the text takes on a dark outline/stroke around it.  No layer/blending options show that the text should be stroked.  As soon as I change the text back to all one color, the stroke goes away.
I've attached a screenshot of the affected text.
What could be causing this?  I've searched for a known PS CS3 bug but can't find one.  If I create a new file, this symptom does not appear.  But the affected file(s) behave exactly the same problematic way on any workstation they're opened on.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
    --Rob

    No, no Layer Style.
I've found that if I choose "Reset Character" in the character palette, the stroke goes away and the layer (and newly created layers) behaves normally after that.  But changing the settings in the character palette manually have no effect on the stroke.. Are there settings that are changed by "reset character" that aren't visible on that palette?

  • Photoshop CS4 Trial Bugs - Eraser & Text problems

Hows everybody doing...I recently downloaded the Photoshop CS4 Extended Trial and installed it on my computer...I am noticing some bugs and im not really sure if its just a bug in the trial version which will be fixed when i buy the program or if there was an error with the install...
I dont have screenshots at the moment since im not on the computer having the issue but i can get them if needed...
First lets start with the eraser tool...When i set the eraser tool as a size of say about 10px it works fine...However, if i zoom in on the image above its nautral size i start to lose the eraser...When i say lose the eraser i mean you can no longer seen the round area which will be erased..When you zoom in part of the circle disappears...It will still erase and area of the set size but its sort of hard to do erasing on detailed images when you cant see the whole eraser....
More bugs with the eraser....If i set the eraser to a larger size, say 30px or more, i right off the bat start seeing less of the eraser area....It will go from a whole circle down to something like a half moon with only half the circle being displayed...
This may be a little hard to understand so if need be i will get some screenshots of what im talking about later....
I am also having a problem with the text...For starters, i cant scroll through the text...When i enter text and highlight it and highlight the fonts i would expect to be able to scroll through the fonts while watching the actual text change on thet screen....I am unable to do that, i highlight the text and the fonts and CS4 will let me scroll maybe 4-5 fonts and then it just stops and wont scroll anymore...
Another issue im having with the font is the size....Whenever i enter text it is extremely small...Even if im working with a 200px x 200px image if i set my font at say 75px its tiny, tiny enough to where i cant even see it to highlight it....There appears to be something wrong with the sizing of the text...Just to get text to show up normally, at a readable size, i have to set the font size to 800px+ and this is on images which are only like 600px wide and 300px tall...Usually a font of 800px would fill up this image but when i do it the 800px font shows up like a 36px font...
Like i said if this is all to hard to understand i can get some screen shots later on...I wanna make sure this is something which can be fixed before i go ahead and drop 700+ on the program...

Yes i installed the patch...That was the first thing i did, before checking the video driver...The patch didnt fix any of the problems im having...The video driver update did however fix the eraser/brush issue...
I did what you said in post #1 about un-checking the option listed....When i did that nothing changed for me....
I have some more details about the scrolling issue though....From what i am able to find it seems that if i just enter digits i am able to scroll through the entire list of fonts and see a live preview of every single one....
With any sort of text it will only allow me to scroll through 5-6 fonts...You can see that it wants to scroll more when i hold the arrow down cause you can see the blue hightlight flashing and the words trying to change but it just wont go any further...At times when i hold the arrow down to scroll through the fonts it will scroll through 5-6 and then all of a sudden just go white and wont let me scroll up or not...At that point i have to select the font list and pick a font

iMac Sleep Problem Waking - Screen Black & Pixelization
Have a new BTO 27" iMac I received a couple of weeks ago. Of course it is running Lion 10.7....
I am having a screen problem "waking" my iMac. (I also have this problem randomly on my MB Air - mid 2011 model)
After the iMac is in true sleep mode
(I have it set to enter a password after sleep mode)
    Screen is blank/off
I "wiggle" my mouse or trackpad
Screen is still blank (sometimes it may display my screen saver, but the screensaver is frozen)
If I start moving the mouse or trackpad, it starts "un painting" the black screen. You can see whatever is supposed to be on the screen, such as the logon "button".
It is really wierd. Like a black "overlay" is painted on the resume from sleep screen. As I move my mouse or trackpad, it is basically erasing the black, to show what is underneath. Each movement of the mouse, erases a small black square.
I usually move my mouse around the middle of the screen to uncover the logon button. Press the logon button. The screen magically reappears as normal. I enter my password and system logs back on normally.
It only seems to be when the iMac is in really deep sleep mode. If the screen is just blank for an hour or so. I move the mouse/trackpad, and the logon screen is immediately displayed normally.
    Any thoughts or recommendations?
    Thanks to all in advance.

    Still experimenting.
If certain programs are running (ie Firefox), then I don't have a problem coming out of deep sleep. It gives me a message when I reenter my password, that Firefox prevented the system from logging off.
Does that additional information help? It is a really annoying problem. And since I have it on my MBA, I am concerned it is more widespread. Does anyone else have this issue?

Black Screen and "Erasure" with Mouse.
I am having this same problem. I am using the Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2, not using a screen saver, and it happens sporadically upon trying to wake my iMac from sleep mode. The screen is black, and as you move the mouse over the screen, it "erases" the black, like the opposite of a blackboard, to reveal the login name and picture underneath. After that everything works fine. There is no pattern to this that I can discern (e.g. - happens every fifth time, only happens when a program isn't running etc.). It appears random, but is uber annoying, and behaves like a virus. I have Norton Antivirus, and it updates daily, and upon scanning states no virus is found. I also do system scan with MacKeeper, and it scans, says system is excellent. Something is definitely going on, I just wish I knew what it was. If anyone has any knowledge of this, any solution or insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

That's because there are no Mac OS X viruses. You should uninstall Norton. You don't need 3rd party antivirus apps to protect your Mac from malware. Macs are not immune to malware, but no true viruses exist in the wild that can run on Mac OS X, and there never have been any since it was released 10 years ago. The only malware in the wild that can affect Mac OS X is a handful of trojans, which can be easily avoided with some basic education, common sense and care in what software you install. Also, Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Lion have anti-malware protection built in, further reducing the need for 3rd party antivirus apps.

You don't need MacKeeper, either. You really don't need "cleaner" or "maintenance" apps to keep your Mac running well, and some of these apps can do more harm than good. Most only remove files/folders or unused languages or architectures, which does nothing more than free up some drive space. It will not make your Mac run faster or more efficiently, since having stuff stored on a drive does not impact performance, unless you're running out of drive space.
Mac OS X does a good job of taking care of itself, without the need for 3rd party software.
Your problem, and the OP's is a graphics problem, likely having to do with the screensaver, not a malware problem.

Norton Antivirus, and what does it mean?
I suppose one reason I developed a concern that there was more here than meets the proverbial eye, so to speak was a message that I have received through Norton on multiple occasions. The last message of similar stated messages reads as follows (Norton Antivirus 2.2.1 (5) ): "Vulnerability blocked, December 13th, 2011, 8:57 P.M. When I click on "View Recent Activities", a window is opened that is titled "Activity Log." There, four columns are listed, titled from left to right "Date", "Event Type", "Result", and "Details." Under the December 13th episode, It lists "Portscan" under Event type, "Result" gives an IP Address (192.168.x.xxx), and "Incoming" under details.
I am admittedly a neophyte in the Mac world, having switched over from Windows 7 to Mac recently, but am intent on educating myself to the not-so-subtle differences. The above information that Norton displayed would lead one to believe that their antivirus software is protecting my iMac, and that its subsequent removal would have perhaps disastrous results ( i.e. - my iMac would be susceptible to said "Vulnerability", whatever it is, and that "Incoming would NOT be blocked). I had a conversation with Norton because previously, every time the stated "Vulnerability" attempted access, I was interrupted by a pop-up screen informing me of this. The Norton representative was able to turn off the pop-up screen notification, but stated that it would continue to log episodes of the "Vulnerability" when it attempted to portscan and access. So am I to understand that uninstalling Norton would leave my computer no less vulnerable to this vulnerability? It is confusing to me.
Furthermore, I suppose I did wonder if this vulnerability threat had anything to do with the issue of the black screen erasure with the mouse. I will attempt to post a picture of the screen as it was being erased with the mouse, and perhaps a short movie as well. As previously stated, I do not have a screen saver enabled. Thank you for your input, any information is helpful to me! _

    Ditto & FYI Workaround
    UncHeel...
Thanks for posting the picture. It is same as my iMac problem. On my iMac, it happens 100% of the time. On my MBA, it happens randomly like yours.
I began to notice if certain programs were running, when it went into screen saver and sleep mode, this didn't happen. And when I woke it up, I got a message that said "could not be logged off due to Firefox or Sketchbook Pro, etc. So that got me to thinking. So....
Over the weekend, I disabled "logoff after xx minutes of activity" in system preferences. That seems to fix the issue. I still have it set to require a password after the screen saver/sleep mode kicks it. But I disabled the logoff toggle.
Still not sure what this is an issue, but seems to be a work around. I just want to make sure my iMac is still going into sleep with these new settings. Including the monitor sleep.
Any thoughts based on this new information?
    Thanks again

You have to remember that many antivirus apps consider cookies to be a "vulnerability" or "threat", when they're not. The only malware in the wild that can affect Mac OS X requires the user to actively install it. As long as a user is reasonably careful about where they get software, there is no need for 3rd party antivirus apps to protect Mac OS X from malware. Just make sure your firewall is enabled (System Preferences > Security > Firewall), and disable Java in your browser (Safari > Preferences > Security > Enable Java (uncheck))

You can let it sleep without logging off. That way, your apps/documents are still open when you wake it up, rather than having to relaunch apps and reopen documents. Recovery from sleep is much faster than from logging off.

    Greg
I have had the same problem on my mid-2010 iMac since upgrading to Lion and it's been driving me nuts. The relation to automatic Logoff makes sense to me now that I look at my settings. The logoff was occurring after sleep and it's the only thing I haven't tried yet. I had previously thought it was related to Sleep but it never occurs if I force it to sleep. It only occurs after the system was left unattended and went through it's normal steps of screensaver then sleep. I'll try disabling the automatic Logoff and see if it fixes the problem for me too.

I can only declare partial success with unpicking "logoff after xx". It solved the pixelated screen issue but now the computer is not sleeping. I guess I'll have to uncheck file sharing now.

    Any updates?
Just wanted to see if there had been any changes since the last posting in this thread. I'm experiencing the same issue as OP on my 2011 13" MacBook Air w/ OS X 10.7.3, as well as on my parents' mid-2010 iMac (running OS X 10.7.2).
I can't seem to pin down the cause and have tried the steps suggested previously. Thanks!

Still having the same issue here as well.
Have any of you tried a clean install of OSX?
Before I try a full reinstall I did an install on a external drive with no aps, just the bare install and I could not replicate the issue.
I continue to question if this is a graphics card firmware issue or and OS issue.
A reinstall (overlay) of the OS did not resolve the issue.
I have screen shots as follows:
    1) Paint pixels on screen

    Having the same issue
I have four MacBooks and a MacBook Air. I am seeing this issue on two MacBooks both running Lion 10.7.3. One is a newer i5 MacBook the other is an early 2010. The only common denominator I can think of is they are both set up with Parental Controls and they are set to logoff after X amount of time. The other MacBooks don't have this "pixel painting to revel the login screen issue" I also don't see it on our iMacs or the MacMini. Only the two with the issue are set to auto logoff. So the above poster is most likely on to something. I will give it a try by turning off the auto logoff on the two MacBooks in question. If that solves the problem then I will assume its a bug that needs to be addressed.

reinstall (overlay) of the OS did not resolve the issue
wchp - Thank you for following up and posting the screenshots. They match exactly what I was experiencing (and what UNCHeelYeah reported previously). I can confirm that I experienced the issue even following a clean reinstall of Snow Leopard on my MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011).
jrobin - "I will give it a try by turning off the auto logoff on the two MacBooks in question. If that solves the problem then I will assume its a bug that needs to be addressed."
Good thinking! Thanks for taking the time to test with your machines. This will help provide further validation of what gswilder (OP) tried as well in reply #6. Interesting about Parental Controls, too.
    Side note:
Since I recently joined the Apple Developers program, I did a clean install of SL on my MBA then upgraded via the App Store to Mountain Lion to "kick-the-tires" if you will. Interestingly, I've not yet experienced any issue related to waking from sleep with a black screen and pixilation, even while running all the same apps I had previously. I'll report here (and file a bug report with Apple) if I do see this issue pop-up in ML. I'll be reinstalling SL in a few weeks and will report back if/when the black screen and pixelation issue reappears. I'll be sure to note the applications left running at the time the computer went to sleep.

I have experienced the same issue with my brand new MBA Late 2011.
I recently found out that this only happens when DISPLAY is set to go to sleep minutes before the "Log out after X minutes of inactivity". I had "Display sleep" option set to 5 minutes and "Log out after 10 minutes of inactivity" and this causes the display to go to sleep first (screen goes black) and then, 5 minutes later, it logs out.
If "Display sleep" is off and "Log out after X minutes of inactivity" is on, the issue does not replicate. So Im thinking it has something to do with the screen being black at the moment it logs out. Can you try and replicate that?
    Thanks

Just tested this premise and yes, you are correct.
IF: Screen saver ON after 5m AND require password immediately AND Sleep (Display) after 30m AND Logout after 60m I am able to reproduce the problem.
IF: Screen Saver ON after 5m AND require password immediately AND Sleep (Display) after 30m AND Logut after xx NOT enabled, problem goes away
IF: Screen Saver ON after 5m AND require password immediately AND Sleep (Display) OFF AND Logut after 60M enabled, problem goes away
    So on my machine (iMac 27, 3.4/i7, 16GB/1333, Radeon 6970m/2048MB, OSX 10.7.3
It would appear that if I am running Monitor Sleep and it kicks in prior to LogOff then I am able to reproduce this artifact. Only Display sleep with immediate login OR Loguot should be used but not both.
The only other thing to test is is I leave display sleep on, and screen saver on but with NO immediate password and enable logoff if the problem goes away.
    Testing for another day.
I have linked this entire thread to a Apple support ticket and will report back on Apples response

Thank you so much wchp, this is brilliant. I have had this annoying problem for a long time. I eventually rang Mac support, they did not know how to fix the problem as you have suggested so they instigated many hardware replacements which eventually left my iMac severely crippled. They eventually replaced it with the latest model. But I spent two months working with a disabled computer which really interfere with my work.
Your solution appears to have solved my problem, at least so far, but I am hopeful that it is a permanent fix. I hope that your suggestions are taken up by Apple support. This may solve many users problems and avoid Apple making expensive fixes that don't actually work.
I thought that the new iMac would not have the 'Wake up from sleep by painting in the login window' problem but it did, this really annoyed me. Anyway now the problem appears to be solved, it's not I will repost and keep working on it. Thanks again.

    Remarks
    1.1
Pasting of regular text results in double-line spacing. Pasting of code with Syntax Highlighting does not produce double-line spacing, but includes line numbers when pasting in a rich text editor window, or results in indented lines when pasting to the command prompt or plain text window.
    1.2
Pasting of code with Syntax Highlighting includes line numbers when pasting into notepad or to the command prompt. Copying of normal text does not wrap and appears a single line when pasting into notepad.
    3.1
Selecting of code and copying works, but selected text looks like a tape and is not visible.
    5.1
Copy works find and does not include line numbers, but the text is indented.
When pasting text into a rich text enabled editor window, it includes line numbers.
    5.2
Code in syntax highlighting does not copy blank lines, but copies line numbers.
    6.1
Only parts of a code segment can be copied, but not the complete code segment. Copy and paste always copies an additional line that was actually not selected.
    6.3
Copy and paste only copies the code but not syntax highlighting, which can however be can be re-applied.
    8.1
Applying syntax highlighting now applies a font that is suitable for displaying code.
However, it is not possible to change the font, if necessary, or apply color or bold or highlighting. Color can be applied, which looks like double-vision, but anyway is removed when posting.
    10.1
Not working reliably. Sometimes the last line selected is not changed, or only the first line changes.
    11.1
Sometimes fonts are not displayed properly, for instance, the text insertion point may show Arial, but the text is Courier. There is no clear pattern when this happens or what triggers the problem.
    11.3
The text insertion point or selected text always reports the font name "font family", regardless of the font applied.
    15.1
Ctrl-z aborting editor functions under Firefox on Mac OS X. However, Cmd-z, which is standard, works properly. This problem does not affect Safari.
    Issue
    Steps to reproduce
    Workaround
    1
Copy a couple or more lines of text from a discussion window and paste it into any application or document on your host system. For instance:
The following may produce double line spacing:
If there are two or more ways to do something, and one of those
ways can result in a catastrophe, then someone will do it.
    The following should work correctly:
If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will
cause the most damage will be the first one to go wrong
Use Shift-Return instead of Return to terminate the end of lines when creating text.
Use a different browser to perform cut and paste operations, such as Apple Safari or Google Chrome.
    2
Paste some text code into the forum editor window. Select the code and choose Syntax Highlighting:Plain from the editor toolbar (>>). Close and re-edit the thread. It is not possible to place the insertion point below the block of code in order to add any additional lines of code or to add any normal text. For instance:
    mknod compress_pipe p
    mknod export_pipe p
    chmod +rw export_pipe compress_pipe
    nohup split -b 8192m < export_pipe &
    nohup gzip < compress_pipe > export_pipe &
    exp system/passwd full=y direct=y consistent=y compress=n \
    buffer=10485760 file=compress_pipe
It is possible to insert additional code or text below Syntax Highlighting, provided the frame it is not the end, as shown in issue 7.
Add any line of text at the end of your code before applying Syntax Highlighting to the lines above.
Adding code within the frame of Syntax Highlighting works in Safari and Google Chrome.
    3
Re-edit a post with Syntax Highlighting. It is not possible to properly select any lines of code. An additional empty code line is added and the focus is shifted. The selection mask does not match the actual text. It is pretty much impossible to re-edit Syntax Highlighting.
    Screenshot: http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/6121/viun.jpg
Use Safari or Google Chrome when to re-edit text or code under Syntax Highlighting.
    4
Every subsequent edit of a post with Syntax Highlighting adds an empty blank line to the code block with an incremented line number. The resulting empty lines (07, 08) shown in the screenshot cannot be selected or removed unless there is text below the code frame as shown in issue 7. Screenshot: http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/5514/cxkd.jpg
Removing of empty lines woks in Safari and Google Chrome.
    5
When browsing code with Syntax Highlighting, it is not possible to select the code without the line numbers. Screenshot: http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/6626/j7n7.jpg
Select and copy each line separately. Or use Firefox or Google Chrome, but note issue in Remark 5.
    6
When editing, it is possible to copy and paste lines under Syntax Highlighting when selecting the lines, but not when selecting the complete Syntax Highlighting frame.
Carefully select text without the Syntax Highlighting frame boundaries.
    7
Empty lines and white space (identation) in Syntax Highlighting are suppressed when browsing, although they exist in the actual post. For instance:
    mknod compress_pipe p
       mknod export_pipe p
Screenshot when editing the above code:
    http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/673/kmy4.jpg
    8
Syntax Highlighting changes the font to Arial and it is not possible to apply something more suitable for the displaying of code, such as fixed-width Courier New.
    mknod compress_pipe p
    Arial: 1l0OI
    Courier New: 1l0OI
    Arial: 1l0OI
    Courier New: 1l0OI
    9
It is not possible to paste any text into the editor window.
Use a different web browser or downgrade to IE 10.
Or enable F12 Developer Tools from the Tools menu. Press Ctrl-8
Change the default document mode from Edge to IE 10. Select Leave this page.
    10
Create a new thread and type several lines of text. Then select select several lines of text and choose a font, e.g. Courier New. Not all selected lines are changed and only a couple of lines remain highlighted. For instance:
It is difficult to prove the existence of aliens.
Photos exist with aliens, but they could be fake.
On the other hand, photos without aliens could be fake too.
    11
Select a line of text and change the font to Courier New. Then select the line again and it will show Arial. Change the font to Courier New and the text will change back to Arial.
    12
Copy a URL and paste it into the editor window. The URL will be shown as a hyperlink using blue text. It is not possible to continue with normal writing without changing the text of the link. The text insertion point is captured inside the text of the link when trying to click below the link.
After pasting the URL, use the arrow key or mouse to move the cursor to the end of the link, then press RETURN and start writing normally. You can than move the cursor to the beginning of the line and use BACKSPACE to move the text up, after the link.
    13
When replying to a thread and pressing the Quote Previous Message button and then clicking inside the quoted text, for instance, to remove some of the content, it is sometimes no longer possible to move the text insertion point outside of the quoted text back to the normal editing area.
When this happens it helps to switch to HTML and then switch back to the Full Editor.
    14
While writing normal text in the editor, it sometimes becomes impossible to edit a line of text. When clicking on any text to move the text insertion point, it selects the complete paragraph instead. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/585/d0v5.jpg. When pressing the "Post Message" button, a dialog appears to "Stay" or "Leave" the page.
Apparently the editor adds HTML label tags for no apparent reason, which can be seen when switching the editor to HTML mode. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/199/1r5a.jpg
    15
Copy some text into the editor window. Select the text and choose Syntax Highlighting form the >> insert toolbar. Undo using Ctrl-z. It is no longer possible to use any of the >> insert functions. After that it is also not possible to post the message, resulting in an unexpected error and the content is lost.
    16
Syntax Highlighting shows several <span> at the beginning and end of the Syntax Highlighting block after posting. This affects old and new posts.
    17
When changing the width of a table column, entering the 2nd number gets punched into the cell content instead.
After entering the first number, click in the entry field again to enter the 2nd number.
    18

Automatic insertion of links to support.oracle.com contains more info, including responses from Oracle staff.
    20
Change the width of browser window until the editor toolbar appears. It will then stay on top when scrolling through pages.
    21
Select Syntax Highlighting, Plain from the >> insert menu, then copy and past several lines of text (code) into it. Or, copy and paste the text, then mark the text with the mouse and select SH from the insert menu. Many times, the insertion point is not reflecting it's actual position when you click inside the text. Very often it is also not possible to position the insertion point to the end or beginning of a line using the left and right arrow keys; the insertion point jumps to the next line, even though the end of the line has not been reached.
    For instance:
The text insertion point [|] is showing up between the words "point" and "is", but when pressing the delete key or entering text, it affects a different area.
    22
The following is a picture with text and Syntax Highlighting.
In tables, pressing the delete key will remove or rearrange the hover-up window.
    23
The original or initial post of a thread is shown with a grey background when browsing. Depending on the web browser application, this background is also copied when doing a copy and paste of the text, provided the target window supports rich text editing.
Change the target editor window to plain text.
    24
After resizing a pasted image to the same size than the original, the quality is much worse. The following shows a screenshot of the original and copied image:
When resizing a picture by moving the image end-points, the editor does no longer show the current picture dimensions (pixel x pixel) as it did in Jive 5. Also when copying a picture between documents, the picture is enlarged and requires resizing.
    25
Copy and paste content from /etc/oratab, for example:
The same also happens when pasting the text into a Syntax Highlighting field.
It is often necessary to use undo (ctrl-z, cmd-z) to get rid of the mess.

BluShadow I know you are in favor of reenabling code formatting and ditching the Syntax Highlighter altogether. I've also heard that users would prefer the advanced editor to open by default. Anything else on the wishlist?
correction, I would certainly be in favour (favor to you ) of reenabling code tags, mainly because I work quicker by copy/paste and by keyboard than by having to click through a load of buttons (that currently don't do what they should).  I've not said that syntax highlighting should be ditched altogether, and I'd certainly be in favour of it being there, just so long as it provided a decent formatting that was appropriate, so code actually looked like code, and the ability for people to copy/paste the code out of the forum to their own environment wasn't corrupted with double line spacing (as dude has already mentioned) and the addition of the line numbers it puts in (the line numbers are useful for reference on the forum, e.g. when we want to say "you're problem is on line X", but not good when you copy/paste code out to your environment and have to spend ages deleting them all to get the code to do anything).  If it's too difficult, then removing the line numbers from the code formatting would be preferable to having them there and not being able to copy the code out without them.
I agree with dude that it would be good to be able to highlight portions of code with bold or colours, which the old forum didn't allow, but this one does, so it's really a combination of old and new that's needed.  And as dude highlights, the supressing of blank lines is a pain as it can make the posting of multiple code commands become all compressed and difficult to read, and is not representative of what we have in our interfaces such as SQL*Plus etc.
    Basic example:
Copy paste from my SQL*Plus window into the forum (and me applying courier new and quoting it)...

Obviously that's a basic example; in reality we can be providing a solution to someone, explaining multiple steps and commands to demonstrate their issue and the solution, and having to go back through the code once we've pasted it adding back in all the line spacings, is a real pain and time consuming.
Certainly, having the advanced editor options available immediately for replying would be better than having to switch to it manually, especially as most people using these forums are going to want to paste code in (what with it being a technical forum and not really a social forum), and the basic editor just doesn't allow for any suitable code formatting (unless the person is mad enough to switch to HTML mode).

  • Photoshop CS4 Menu toolbar display bug and fullscreen slowness...

    http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/8202/menutoolsbugee3.gif
I'm having a display bug with the menu toolbar in Photoshop CS4 Extended. Notice the area of tools is gone and replaced by random pixels? This happens whenever I enter the fullscreen mode that hides the interface. And when I exit that fullscreen mode, that bug appears and doesn't fix itself until I restart Photoshop. Can this be fixed?
Image view rotation also happens much slower than normal in that fullscreen mode when interface is hidden. But performs normally after I bring back the interface.
I'm on WinXP, Athlon 64 4000+, 3GB ram, GeForce 6800 GT video card [driver 169.21]. I'm not sure if this is a video driver bug or CS4 bug.

Yeah, Dave, I can understand how that can happen. I've seen that sort of weirdness when I've seriously overtaxed my hardware.
    <br />
<br />Had way too much running all at once yesterday, switched over to Firefox, and clicking on folders in the Bookmarks bar, I had 4 bookmark/folder menus dropped simultaneously.
    <br />
<br />I managed to grab a screenshot with 2 of them showing, but man! You shoulda seen it with 4!
    <br />
<br />I ESC'ed out, quit GarageBand (had a song project of several hundred MB going) and all was fixed.
