10.5.2 update - how long for boot cache update?
At the end of the 10.5.2 updater, I got amessage telling me the Boot Cache needed to be updated, and that everything would run and then restart when finished. When I went back to the MacBook, the screen was dark, yet the white power light on the font was on.
I'm not sure if the Boot Cache cleanup is complete or if I am having problems. How long should it take, and is the screen supposed to turn off/go black during the process?
Thanks for the feedback. Since the restart fixed the problem, I recommend downloading the 10.5.2 COMBO update, installing it to ensure that nothing's broken, and after restarting, launch Disk Utility and repair permissions. Once that's finished, launch Software Update and install everything that's missing, except the Time Machine & Airport combined update which precludes reinstalling the COMBO update.

Yes, the installer will launch automatically and wait for you when you wake up to proceed with the Lion installation.

Rarcrack - how long for the file with 400 MB ?

I'm trying to get the password in the encrypted file with 400 MB. It's more time I thought.
If someone have used the program, rarcrack, can you tell me know that get the password with special characters ?
For example:
The encrypted file with 400MB + the passwords "?_123_123_abc_@theworld".
How long for that ?

Also, are you using a dictionary/removing obvious choices of pass-phrase to help speed up the process OR are you brute-forcing every single pass-phrase from the ASCII alpha-numeric alphabet + punctuation?
TL;DR: Assuming I've done the Maths correctly, a damn sight longer that you might have thought
Since you haven't said, I'm going to assume YES to the first question and I'm assuming you're brute forcing, to make the maths simpler.
For one character position you're looking at about 26 lower case + 26 upper case + 10 digits + 10 punctuation marks of some sort. So that's 72 characters. You've got 22 characters in the passphrase, so that's a potential of 72^22 = 7.26632672153 x 10^40 pass-phrase combinations.
Now let's assume you're doing this on modern hardware, with an SSD on a single machine which can process something at the rate of 200MB/s. That's two seconds a pass. That'll take you about 2.01842408931 x 10^37 hours.
Disclaimer: I'm working off the assumption that encryption has been used, and that rarcrack would decrypt the whole file on each attempt (pass-phrase protection and encryption are different things...). I don't actually know how it works, but for those that do know how it does, you can probably work out the time from the number of pass-phrase combinations.

What did the email say that confirmed your order? It states on there an expected delivery date. This is a user to user support forum, so no one here would really know when it would be delivered, only Apple would, and they do not participate in the forum.

We submitted ours 6 days ago and wondering how long until the app gets reviewed and once in review mode, how long before approving it on the app store? When i uploaded my application it took around 12 working days, If there is any problem in the app, apple team will send you the error to the mail.

How long for updates and bug fixes usually?
I'm new to Logic and even new to Macs. I'm just wondering how long does it usually take for Apple to release bug fixes and updates to Logic?
Also, how long did Apple take to get around to providing worthwhile updates to Logic 7? Were there substantial updates changed work flow, functionality, etc?
Basically I'm wondering how long until Logic 8 will be more stable and complete?Logic 7 was never updated so as to provide any significant changes in workflow over its initial release. But apparently L7 so intrinsically broken that they abandoned any effort to fix it. Instead, they developed Logic 8.
L8 has some very obvious bugs, yes. They need to be fixed yesterday. But as usual, Apple is dragging its feet in this regard.
To your question, how long.... well, L7 updates occurred about every 4 months. There's no telling if they'll be on a more conscientious schedule for releasing L8 updates. They only offer end-users one choice: wait and see what happens. -

How long is normal for iTunes Match to go?
I seem to have it go through and recyle umpteen times and has now been going for over 20 hours.
This is on a base of about 11,000 songs and darned if I know whether my tv programs are included or not.
It seems to go thorugh steps then add a few hundred more songs each pass
Very confusing and challenginng to wait for it
How much 'updating' can it do?
One other killer quiestion - if you delete purchased songs from your machine (as in when your storage space is getting too big and costing too much?) - how do you permanently remove something from your database?

GeoffI am not surprised to hear it is taking a long time. I signed up when Match first became available. It took several days before it finally finished. I had maybe half as many tracks as you. Also, prepare for this ahead of time: Even after it finishes there will still be some tracks that do not match. This still happens even though iTunes Match has been around for a year.
To permanently delete a track from iTunes Match, check the box in the delete confirmation that says "Also delete this item from iCloud". -

It's really weird. I just recently ordered my iBook w/ iPod (personalized from Apple), and both shipped from China. The iPod's taken around 3 days, and it's in Madison, WI, where I live. My iBook has shipped two days ago and apparently it's still in the FedEx depot in Shanghai, so I'm hoping to get it soon! Yeah, I just check the updates regularly like that...

Repartition and reformat your hard drive as follows:
Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
When formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Now do a new install. Unless there's a hardware issue this should get you working.
BTW, since your question relates to Tiger (I think) you should post in the Tiger forums instead of the Panther and earlier (namely, here.) Not a big deal for now, but in the future. -

How much data is on your internal disk?

I would add more days to that time to account for the fact that USB 1 is slower (more like 0.7MB/s in my tests from years ago).
This is an appalling idea - your disk could easily stop working in the time it takes to copy.
