10.5.2 update serieous video problems

Ever since i installed the update, and subsequently the core graphics update, i cant playback any 1080p video files. The video is choppy/slow(under 10fps).
The files im playing worked fine on my older macbook 2.0ghz with the older intel gma card. I tried again when i got my 2.2 macbook which has a 144mb card and they worked okay(even though for some strange reason worked better on my older one).
Anyway since the update playback of these kind of files is impossible, and even sometimes 720p is choppy. I dont understand why or how, but the update(s) killed my video playback.
What happened?? And when will this get fixed or rather can i fix it?
thanks

hey, sorry if i sound rude(not aimed at you). But if something was working and the was broken by an update from apple then its apples' responsibility to get it fixed.
And to answer what you said, i have tried mplayer, vlc, other codecs etc. and still the same problem.
As i said, its not the codecs, something happened with the new update which caused my graphics card or something either way to perform worse than before.
Thanks for the reply

  • I just downloaded the latest Windows updates, now videos online will not work on Firefox but will on other browsers, anyone else having this problem?

After downloading the latest Windows updates I found that I could not play videos on YouTube or at other sites. Switching to other browsers I found I could play those same videos now without any problem. So I did a System Restore to determine if the Windows updates had affected video play using Firefox. The restore point was set to the day before the Windows download occurred. After System Restore was completed I could now play videos using the Firefox browser.
To make sure that the Windows update was the problem, I again downloaded the newest Windows Updates and once again could not play videos on any site using Firefox. System restore was used to again reset my computer to the day before and once again the videos would ow play in the Firefox browser.

Actually your reply took me in another direction and I found this on the Adobe site:
The RealPlayer extension for Firefox, Downloading & Recording, has compatibility issues with Flash Player 11.3. If RealPlayer is installed Flash Player content does not appear. YouTube provides an error message when you try to watch a video.
As a workaround, do the following:
    Start RealPlayer.
Click the RealPlayer icon in the upper-left corner and select Preferences.
Select Download & Recording in the left menu and deselect Enable Web Download & Recording for These Installed Browsers option.
Click OK and restart Mozilla Firefox.
Once I followed this I could now again play videos in Firefox.

  • Post-Update Video Problems

Ever since installing Leopard update 10.5.2, and the subsequent Leopard Graphics Update 1.0, I've been experiencing an assortment of video problems that were not present prior to installing the updates. These problems include: horizontal black lines through windows in the display, colored blocks in the display, icons in the dock having various kinds of corruption, including garbled lines or superimposed or 1/2 & 1/2 icons, as well as all kinds of flashing and garbled screen display in games. The worst of these problems, which has been occurring several times a day, is total screen lock-up. The application behind the screen may well still be running, but the video is locked tight. The only way out of this situation is a hard re-boot with the power button.
If a fix isn't imminent, is there any way to UNINSTALL the video upgrade?
    Thanks.

iv had a problem sort of like this, when i had my computer started up on the disk and repaired disk/permissions, the image would freeze on the screen, only when i moved the window did it correct itself

  • T400 - Video problems and a long wait for repair...

    Hi,
I'd just like to state my experience with Lenovo Customer Support for a video problem with my T400.  Bottom line, as of today, it's been around 27 business days that it's been with Lenovo, and 41 days total since it's failed on me, and nobody, including Lenovo Customer Support, seems to know what its status is exactly, except that they're waiting on a part which has no ETA.
In July 2009, I bought a T400, a 2764CTO version with the switchable graphics between the internal intel graphics and the ATI GPU.
All was well until February 1st, 2010, when the LCD sudden wouldn't work.  Well, it would work, but the screen was very very dim, even with the display maxed out on brightness.  You would have literally bring your nose to the screen in order to even make out any text or images - definitely unusable.  However, if you hooked up an external monitor via the video output, the T400 would display video output properly that way.  When I did this, I noticed that the switchable graphics option wasn't there any more - couldn't switch to the ATI GPU.  Based on this, I figured it must be a video card or LCD issue, or a combination of both.
So, I called Lenovo Customer Support (CS) at 1-800-565-3344, since I'm up here in Canada, and I initially was issued a case number of 41JRFSD, and I agreed to send it to a local Lenovo Repair Centre.  Oops, my bad, I made a mistake using the locator tool I was told to use at bplocator.lenovo.com, and thought the Centre was relatively close.  Not quite.  So, I called Lenovo CS again, and they issued me with a new case number, 40KWSYF, and said they'd send a box for return to depot.  And within 2 days, Feb 2nd or 3rd, I got a Purolator courier return box.  That's fast service!  Pleased, I put my T400 in according to instructions, and I sent it off.
Fast forward to about mid-February.  I called Lenovo CS, and apparently there was a delay - the depot needed a part that wasn't in stock. Fine, I know these things can happen - I'll wait.
Fast forward to March 1st.  I talk to a Lenovo CS rep, and it appears that the part needed has arrived, and they've put a rush order to get the computer back to me. Great!
Fast forward to March 8th, still no computer.  I talk to another Lenovo CS rep... strange, there's no update.  The issue gets escalated to the Depot managers.
Fast forward to March 12th.  Still no word on my T400's status.  An email fron CS has been sent to the depot.  Not even the CS reps know what's going on.  The rep I talk to figures there should be a response by the end of the day.
Fast forward to today, March 13th, 4:50pm Pacific Time.  I just finish talking to Lenovo CS, there's been no response from the depot.  Apparently there's a part that they're waiting on for repairs, but there's no ETA on it.  Is it the same part that I've waiting on all this time?  Is it a new one?  I don't know.
At this point, I've been told to send an email explaining my situation, and I've also been told to talk to Scott the next time I call CS on Monday after 3pm Eastern.  I have to stress that the Lenovo Customer Support Reps I've talked to have all been very sympathetic and have been courteous, helpful, and professional - something I appreciate from having worked in Customer Support myself.  But the bottom line remains: my computer's not back to me.
So, my questions to the community here: is my experience here typical?  Is there any hope of my seeing my computer back, or even at least just the hard drive?  I've used Lenovo computers for work for the past 7 years, and it was my good work experiences that led me to buying a Lenovo for home use.  However, it's been a while since I've been without my T400, and I was hoping to get my taxes done on the computer too, since they're due at the end of March.  I'll reserve judgement on Lenovo until I get my computer back, but at this point, all I can say is... I'm disappointed.
If you're reading this, I'll let you judge my experience for youself.  I'll update my case as it progresses.
    Thanks!

    Hi all,
So, an update with some good news: my computer is finally back!
After a total of over 40 business days (just over 2 months) I finally have my T400 back at home, working again!
According to the spec sheets, the repair depot had to replace: the systemboard/planar, display/LCD panel, LCD cable, PC card, bluetooth, and the inverter.  BIOS/Embedded controller was also updated, along with the regular diagnostics to ensure everything was working properly.
I give Lenovo credit though: they got the final parts to repair the computer on Monday, April 5th, and shipped my computer back to me for the next day (today, April 6th).  That's fast service, once repaired!
However, my case spans over 4 screens of updates and repair depot orders of parts.
Also, it took me over 10 calls to Lenovo's Customer Service, plus an escalation to a higher-level manager after 1 month had passed, to get progress updates and ETAs for repair.
Lenovo called me only once to give me an update, and that was the manager whom my issue was escalated to: all the other times, I called Lenovo for an update.
The story doesn't end here, however:
In talking to Customer Support, they told me that Sales might be able to sell me an extended warranty at a discount, given the issues I had.  And indeed, after talking to Sales, they offered me a 1 year warranty extension at a price of just over $100 CDN, plus tax.  This is a sale price, compared to the regular retail of $129.  Unfortunately, they can't sell me just one month.
At this point, I refused their offer, and again escalated to a manager to request an extension of exactly 1 month on my existing warranty.  I figure 1 month delay in repairs, that's plausible - crap happens, and while most repairs take 5-10 business days, I can understand it can sometimes go higher.  Two months though....  My request for a warranty extension is being considered by the manager it was escalated to.
So, one last question for you folks reading this: am I being unreasonable, talking to Lenovo support one more time to request a 1 month extension of my warranty, given the length of time it's taken for repairs?  I'll post the response Lenovo will give me tomorrow, as they've said they'll do.
One thing for sure: Lenovo's response will definitely influence my choice of brand from whom to buy a new computer (and it will influence the choice of my friends who've heard my issues, and maybe yours too).  My particular repair problem may not come up often, but if it does happen to you, I'd be happy to know of your experience.
Thanks for sticking with me through the drama!

  • Why does a Safe Boot fix my video problem?

After visiting my local Genius Bar twice (and getting two different answers), I erased and reinstalled Snow Leopard 10.6 on my late-2006 "white plastic" iMac.
I reinstalled the version of SL that came with the iMac, then upgraded it twice to OS 10.6.8. Software Updater says all of my OS components are up-to-date.
My video-corruption problems ("ghosting", "tearing", pixelation of icon, then the kernel CRASHES within 20 minutes) appear when I boot normally. But they permanently disappear when I reboot into the Safe Mode!
I've search Apple.com and every other site I can find without a clear answer to this:
What extensions, StartUp items, software daemons or gremlins DO NOT load in Safe Mode? Shouldn't one of them be the cause of my problem? Or does Safe Boot work on a hardware-level, too?
This happens on ALL accounts, both Admin and regular users. No external devices are connected except the wired mouse and wired keyboard.
I've zapped the PRAM three times, and I've unplugged it for hours. Disk Utility shows everything is good, too. There's about 50 gigs left on the internal 750 GB hard drive.
The so-called "Geniuses" both ran their Triage OS off an external drive and my iMac hardware passed ALL of their tests. One said it just needed a reinstall (a free fix!!), and the other said my video card is bad ($800, and I have to use an outside repair shop).
Can someone give me an idea how to proceed? I've been working in Safe Mode for days, but that prevents me from using: Sound, my home network, fonts, Preview, editing in iPhoto, etc.
    Thanks.

    Hi, Mike,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
I read the linked post about QE, but I don't see how it could help me troubleshoot my problem. Could you clarify: is QE a piece of "software" (that is, a file -- like an extension)?
If QE IS a piece of software that is disabled in a Safe Boot, I should be able to move it to my Desktop and restart. If my video problem is eliminated, the QE software is the problem, right?
But then, if my problem is caused by a file/extension, why would the problem occur (and be eliminated in a Safe Boot) right after I re-installed the OS? Shouldn't all the System software be pristine right after re-installation? But since it's NOT fixed by the re-installation, it seems like a hardware problem -- like the expensive video card. That's what's confusing me.
So, I'm proceeding as if the problem is caused by a file being loaded into memory and I'm trying to disable the items that don't load in Safe Boot Mode one-at-a-time. I just need a specific list of what those items are (and their locations on my hard drive).
In OS/9, I used Conflict Catcher to do this automatically, but I haven't found an OSX app to do the same. So I'm trying to do it manually.
Please excuse my layman's terms. Any help is appreciated.

  • Problem viewing videos - Problema visualizzazione video

    Hello
A few days ago I decided to start trying Adobe Premiere CS5, honestly I never used this program, even earlier versions.
    Just coming to my problem:
    I imported a video
    format: mov
    size: 1280 x 720
    codecs: H.264, AAC
    Color Profile: HD (1-1-1)
    Channels: 2
    Total freq. bits.: 9745
When I put it in the timeline does not see me, but I also render anything, it reproduces more or less than 1''and then go back.
To better explain my problem I am attaching a video I made to screen
I updated all video codecs and audio
I tried with an avi video but no go.
May depend on what the problem??
    Thank you very much
    Andrea

    Salve a tutti

    Grazie Mille

You should have read the limitations of the trial version on the download page. It clearly states there is no support for anything MPEG, including your material.
Don't worry, you are not alone in not being able or willing to read, this is only post 548 in the last two weeks about this. It shows you are not unique.

  • Video Problems with 7.0.1

Just as with iTunes 7 I am having video problems galore. I can play all the music videos and TV shows that I currently have in my iTunes library via QuickTime. However, if I attempt to go and browse either music videos or TV shows, iTunes comes to a dead halt and I cannot even close the iTunes program without utilizing ALT, CTRL, DEL. My computer is "authorized" as I have no problem browsing in music, but if I do get as far as the TV Show home page, I get a message saying that I "CANNOT BROWSE ALBUM COVERS ON THIS COMPUTER." I am really at a loss as to what else to try and would apprecaite any assistance offered. Thanks all.

b noir, here are all the symptoms that I am currently experiencing with 7.0.1:
    1. iTunes takes 3-5 minutes to boot-up and will ONLY start if an iPod is attached. Manual opening will not work.
    2. Any time that I click on the "TV Shows, Music Video, or Movie" areas of iTunes Music Store the entire iTunes program freezes. I can only exit iTunes at that point by "ALT, CTRL, DEL."
    3. When I do attempt to enter the TV Show area, I do eventually get a gray and white sign where the TV Show icons should be and the message says "Unauthorized to browse album covers on this computer." At this point the program is frozen. I should mention that the computer is authorized and I have NO problem browsing, playing, or purchasing music in the iTunes Music Store.
    4. I have no problem whatsoever playing the music videos and TV Shows that are already a part of my iTunes Library. No issues with QuickTime's playback whatsoever.
    5. There is absolutely no problem with the purchasing, playing, or control of my music portion of iTunes. I have no distortions at all and did not have them with 7.0.
    6. Many times after updatingmy iPod with new music, changes, or playlists, the window of the iTunes player will say that the update is complete but does not mention anything about the iPod being OK to disconnect. Several times I tried to manually disengage by clicking the release next to the iPod in the source column, only to get a message telling me that iPods files are currently in use. Eventually I can make the disconnect.
    7. In general the amount of time that it takes to sync my iPod to iTunes is at least triple what it was with iTunes version 6.
Whew. That's everything. What say ye?

  • Weird Video problem and kernel panic!

Okay, so last ngiht I was running tech tool maintenence, and I had repair on. So, it finished scanning my startup volume (I was on my eDrive) and then I shut down and restarted. Now, it tried to start from my startup volume (tiger 4.7, with latest updates) and it says you need to restart your computer (which means there is a kernel panic, am I right?) I try safe mode to no avail, I even reset the PMU and reset the PRAM (but I didnt hear the starup noise again). So, I put in my backup HD, and it starts up, but wait! Now the video is horribly wrong! It is all in TERRIBLE quality and in mostly only greys, I mean it looks like a 4 mb vram video card, there are very few pixels of color( there are some intermitedly) and there is terrible ghosting, and I can barely read anything. so, I checked my display, and universal access settings, and fooled around with those, and nothing happened. So, now I try and start from my eDriveand it start, but now it has the same horrible color problem as my other drive. Oh boy, this is a new computer, and I already have a kernel pnic, and a video problem, what can I do? Thanks for any help. Matthew. I have a sawtooth, a radeon 9200 flashed video card, and the latest tiger.

What if you tried running mplayer with the following command :
    mplayer -fs -zoom filename
As for the "too pixelish" problem well... you could try increasing the "nice" level (at least in VLC). For the other video players I don't know.

  • SCCM 2012 Client and Workstation Audio and Video Problems

    SCCM 2012 SP1 environment.
We have pushed out the SCCM Client successfully to our systems - however we have found that on some computers the SCCM Client is causing an audio/video problem - specifically it appears to be with computers that connect monitors via DVI.  As an example,
on my laptop (Dell e6420, Win7 x64) I have a docking station that connects my laptop to 2 external monitors.  With the SCCM Client installed I cannot listen to music or watch videos - the result is an unusable choppiness/stuttering listening to music
and with a video the audio and video get out of sync.  As well, my mouse no longer functions smoothly - it jumps around.  This happens whether accessing content from a website or simply a local file on my computer.  If I uninstall the SCCM client,
the issue goes away entirely.  I have tried disabling the SMS and Remote control services but doing so does not resolve the issue, only a client uninstall. Note that this only happens when the laptop is on the docking station - with DVI - it doesn't
happen when the laptop is running without an external monitor or if plugged into an HDMI output device.
At first we believed this was limited to this model of laptop in our environment (Win8 or Win7 - both result in the same problem), but now we are hearing about "audio and video issues" on Dell 990 workstations as well.  I believe these stations
have DVI connected monitors.  Driver updates do not appear to resolve the issue.
Has anyone experienced this in their environment?  Note that this happens on imaged workstations and workstations installed from a vanilla Windows 7 or 8 CD.

Try installing the client without Silverlight and see if it helps (this is only used for the Application Catalog).

  • Adobe Premiere Pro could not find any capable video play modules. Please update your video display drivers and start again.

I have administrator rights to the computer. The drivers are up to date. But I am still getting the error message "Adobe Premiere Pro could not find any capable video play modules. Please update your video display drivers and start again"  when opening Premier Pro CS5.5. This appears to have happed after I upgraded to Mac OS 10.10.2.
    Anyone?
    Thanks

    Hi Stan.
I had the same problem as you did though I am using Adobe CC.  I saw nobody replied to you so perhaps my eventual success on my later version may have applications to the error on your version.
Anyhow, I did all the suggestions found here (Error "Premiere Pro could not find any capable video play modules" | Startup )  first and updated my NVidea card to no avail.  Eventually what did the trick was this...
After mucking about with the video card, I said "OK lets just have a go at Premiere itself." So I uninstalled Premiere CC and reinstalled it.  Now for some reason it didn't give me the latest patch but a slightly earlier version than the current one but lo and behold it was fine with the video card again.  I was able to get my friend's video imported and quickly edited but then was having some issues with exporting where it would hang up but I went into Adobe Media Encoder and exported it there without a care.  That task out of the way, I then went and made the update to the latest patch and it works perfectly fine - no video driver issues.
So short of it is this - if you've updated your drivers, perhaps what you could try uninstalling and reinstalling Premiere.
Let me know if this works.
    Cheers and good luck

I'll leave it to Steve and Bill as to whether the fix offered in the link for Premiere Elements 2 would still be applicable to your version of Premiere Elements.

  • 2014.0.1 Update freezes video playback

Since downloading the 2014.0.1 update, my video playback will work for about 30 seconds and then will consistently freeze the frame right before moving onto the next clip. The audio continues to play from the next clip while the frozen frame is on screen.
Yesterday an Adobe helpdesk team member did the following:
-upped the ram available to premiere to 13gb instead of 11
-changed my Renderer to: Mercury Playback Engine GPU Accelerator (OpenCL) instead of Mercury Playback Software only
However, this has not stopped the problem from happening.
Changing the resolution in the playback monitor from Full, to 1/2, or 1/4 does not fix the problem either.
Is anyone else having this problem?  Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Same, thought for sure the latest Pr update was going to fix it. Have had to resort to GPU Software mode which is spotty at best, but seems to work the longest in that setting before freezing. Now wasting time rendering, its like being back in FC7 with rending. What a waste of money and time. Will keep checking back to see if anyone has a figured this out. FYI: My MacPro Laptop 2013 with Nvidia graphics card with 16Gs memory has no problems with any of this, but it kind of defeats the purpose, since I thought I was upgrading to a faster better more powerful system.

  • Need help with video problems

    Hi!
Back in May I was having problems with video on my Mac. I was helped by this site and am hoping for more help. I downloaded the realaudio, but was still having problems. I assumed because I was on dial up. It was so slow. It would take forever to load and then play for a few minutes then need to load some more. I now have DSL and was looking forward to kissing the video problems good-bye! My new problem is that when I try to watch or listen to anything like innertube it "stutters." Is there something else I should be doing? How can I fix this problem?

With those specs you should be absolutely fine. I would suggest that you update to 10.4.10 at least (download the full Combo updater). Once you are on that:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5)
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. This: http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/index.cfm?email&NewsID=19845 may also interest you.)
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
See also the very informative post from QuickTimeKirk dated Dec 3, 2007 in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1268489&tstart=0
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them).
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Graphics/Video Problems on HP Pavilion dv4-1155se

We have a brand spanking new HP Pavilion dv4-1155se running Windows Vista 64-bit Edition that continues to have issues.  At random times, the laptop display will flicker 2 or 3 times, and the laptop will blue screen, stating a problem with the graphics adapter.  We've updated the BIOS and graphics drivers from HP to no avail.  We've also donwloaded a driver directly from ATI which seemed to resolve the issue for an extended period, but has re-occured today.
The only thing I can think of is that Vista may be using a built-in driver for the graphics adapter which is no good.  I'm considering the possibility that even though I updated the graphics with a driver directly from ATI, Vista overwrote it with its own again.  The laptop is currently off-site so I cannot verify this, but if anyone has had similar issues I'd like to see if you were able to find a fix.
    Regards,
    Phil

Do you also get this error (in addition to the BSOSs): "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered"
I started receiving the flickering screen and then the nvlddmkm error problem after I downloaded:
Realtek - Network - Realtek RTL8168B/8111B Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)
    Installation date: ‎11/‎8/‎2008 3:20 PM
    Installation status: Successful
    Update type: Optional
DriverUpdate: Realtek Network software update released in July, 2008
    And:
Device Driver Package Install: HP Developmen...
I have a NVIDIA GPU and since you have ATI our similar errors may just be coincidental and/or a result of Windows Update.
I do not know how the Realtek d/l would conflict with the GPU and I also updated HP Heath Check and HP Quick Play and HP Quick Launch Buttons just before Realtek.  I keep 'Print Screen' shots of my System Restore page to document the chronology of my updates and software installs.  Then through Problem Reports and Solutions, which displays the exact time of the "video hardware error", I was able to associate the aforementioned 3 recent updates as potential problems.
Many dv9000 computers (and more) are experiencing the video display problems I am and their complete computer failures occur soon after receiving those video warnings.
Therefore, as you noted, your problem or mine might be as innocuous as an updated driver conflict from Windows Update or an HP driver update.
