10.5.3 ARD hooks up to local 10.4 ARD, but not to remote 10.4 ARD

At work I can connect to local macs using ARD and Screen sharing from 10.5.3 G5 to all the other G4's running 10.4, but for some reason I can't connect to our MacMini that's at our second location. No firewall is active on the machine and there's a G4 there that I CAN connect to.
Apple Remote Desktop is turned on, but for some reason "access privileges" when clicked does nothing. Same thing happens on local G4's here.
Any ideas?
Eric

Irrelevant question now. We closed our plant and have all computers in one location.

  • Background image displays locally in HTML5 template but not when published

    I have used an excellent HTML5 template which uses JavaScript to display background images. However while this file works locally it doesn't when published. The site structure is sound and I notice this happens with the source files I downloaded also so it's nothing I have done in my build which could have caused this.
    This is the link to my site, everything is fine except the background image not showing.

    Any ideas, as I say fine locally, not fine when published?

    Hi Kyle,
    I realise you posted your question a couple of days ago but it looks like your background image issue may now be fixed?
    In any case, your site has a few issues. Not sure who told you the template was HTML 5 but they might be yanking your chain. There is nothing HTML 5 about the code used and the DOCTYPE is from HTML 4. As such, some of the code you have used is throwing up errors - some related to the DOCTYPE and some where you haven't closed the tags:
    http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.khawkinsdesign.com%2F&charset=%28detect +automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0
    <ul id="footer-nav">
    <li><a href="index.html">Home</a></li>
    <li><a href="portfolio.html">Portfolio</a></li>
    <li><a href="about.html">About</a></li> /*The closing tag is missing in your code */
    <li><a href="contact.html">Contact</a></li> /*The closing tag is missing in your code */
    </ul>
    It would be best to amend the errors but some might disappear when you add the HTML 5 DOCTYPE in to your code. Things like your lack of "type" on the sources is a required v4 attribute, but not in v5.
    <!DOCTYPE html>
    Have a read through this for more info - this is a great resource for everything HTML 5. http://diveintohtml5.info/
    Rik
    EDIT:// It seems that the DOCTYPE is the 5 version on all but the home page so you may only have one to correct. However, there are still no HTML 5 elements used to take advantage of the new DOCTYPE.

  • X11 works locally but not from remote clients because DISPLAY is /tmp/...

    I've used X11 plenty of times before, but not in a little while. Now, when I start X11 on two different accounts, the DISPLAY variable is /tmp/launch-*/org.x:0 . When I telnet to a remote host and set the DISPLAY variable to my hostname:0 (ie. graphe:0), xterm says it can't connect to the display.
    If I set DISPLAY to localhost:0 and start a local xterm it complains too:
    xterm Xt error: Can't open display: localhost:0
    From scanning this forum, I believe this may have something to do with ssh, but on one of the accounts where I have this problem I don't even have ssh configured.
    What's the deal?

    ssh -X (or -Y) exports your local host DISPLAY environment over a secure ssh tunnel to the remote system, where it creates a local X11 port pointing at the remote end of the secure ssh tunnel, and it creates the DISPLAY environment variable to specify the secure tunnel port.
    It is a much (MUCH) more secure way to use X11 than previous methods, speaking as someone that has been using X11 since the early '90s. I did it the xhosts way for years, but about 6 years ago, I switched over to ssh -X and have never looked back.
    Oh yea, several of my machines are about 2,000 miles away (all inside the company network, but still a long way away).

  • Templates updating on local server but not on remote in DW CS3

    I'm using Dreamweaver CS3 and am trying to update some templates.  At first, when I checked out the file on the remote server, made the change and saved, it asked me if I want to upload to all pages using that template.  I said yes, and it checked them out and applied them (it says).  I noticed that the files were only updated on the local server and not on the remote so I had to synchronize.  No problem there.
    However, now when I go and update templates and apply to all pages using that template, it checks them out, but when I go check them on the servers, none of the files on either the local or remote server are updated even though I verified that the template itself did update.
    I'm a self-taught newbie, so please forgive me if some of this sounds way less than techie.
    Thanks

    Updated child pages need to be uploaded  (put) to server

  • Linked server problem, its works locally but not from remote machine

    Hi,
    i am using the application NAV and have written the query in the application. am using automation variable to link to the SQL Server.
    The problem is that , the query which i have written executes only when i am working on local machine .
    I mean when i want to execute the same query from remote machine through my app Dynamics NAV then its not getting executed.
    Thanks in advance

    Depends on what you are trying to do and what security you are using.
    What error did you get?
    If you are using windows authentication then take a look at delegation

  • Published files work on local site but not on remote site

    the flash4 published set of files, with a variety of skins tried, works well on the local drive, even when moved to a different folder structure. when index.html is opened on the remote web site, the browser (firefox3 and ie7) displays the player conrols and a rotating horizontal barber pole, green and black, but no flash video.some of the skins i've used are: SkinOverPlaySeekFullscreen.swf, nOverPlayStopSeekCaptionVol.swf and SkinUnderPlay.swf. all work locally but do not play the .flv file on the web site. no problem playing flv movies on the remote web site if the file set is created by dreamweaver.
    how should this flash newbee diagnose the problem? --david

    The source for the video seems to be hardcoded to your local drive.  You will need to change this to a relative path, or hardcode it to the server location.
    Here is the error my debugging player displayed:

  • Can connect to local DB via SQLPlus but not via SQLDeveloper, all info incl

    Have a database running on a new local Windows 7 Professional Machine with data, users, etc from an db import. Able to access database via sqlplus, run queries, etc. Cannot run from Oracle SQL Developer. Trying to use Connection Type Basic, Hostname localhost, port *1521*.
    Using SID = xe I get:
    Status: Failure -Test failed: Listener refused the connection with the following error: ORA-12518, TNS:listener could not hand off client connection The Connection descriptor used by the client was localhost:1521:xe
    When I add a service in my listener.ora file for sid_name=xe and program_name=xe (which I include below), I get
    ORA-12518, TNS:listener could not hand off client connection. The connection descriptor used by the client was localhost:1521:xe
    Using Service name = xe I get:
    Status: Failure -Test failed: Io exception: the Network Adapter could not establish the connection.
    Here's every single piece of information I think you may possibly need to help me with the issue. [I've been trying to find the solution on these forums so I hope I haven't messed my settings up even more than they had been before.]

  • [Solved] Starting applications locally but not SSH

    Ok, so.. argh..
    I'm normally good enough to figure these _basic_ things out but i'm bashing my head right now.
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Autostarting
    i want to run startx when logging in locally on a tty, but not when i initiate a user-session via SSH.
    Normally i'd place profiling stuff in .bashrc (variables, user aliases etc) and place startx in say a tty1.conf or something under /etc/init.d but since Arch is running systemd and starting x is not a daemon per sae i'm all out of luck here.
    How do you guys normally startx? and how do you separate autostarting applications locally, remote etc?
    Ps. I've started stuff via .config/openbox/autostart so that's fine.
    I need X not to iniatate every ssh session :)
    Solution (one of many):
    This solution will not only work through all terminals (meaning you don't check the terminal name) it will also not rely on tty or session names, it will instead check if the source is running under a X window (:0) or from an IP (10.0.0.1).
    If non of the above it defaults to starting x.
    Note: It will not distinguish running under systemd aparently and it also doesn't take in account if you're relaying X via SSH i guess (havn't tried that tho but it's an assumption).
    sudo nano /etc/profile.d/gui.sh
    #!/bin/bash
    me=`who am i`
    case "$me" in
    *\(:0\)*) echo "Youre in X" ;;
    *\(*.*.*.*) echo "Youre in SSH" ;;
    *) startx ;;

    You could also use lastlog to determine if you are logged in on a TTY or pseudo-terminal:
    ┌─[Veles ~]

    pts/9
    ┌─[Shiv ~ ]
    └─╼ lastlog -u jason | awk '/jason/ {print $2}'

    # edit: or just grep it if you only need an exit status...
    This feels unpredictable right off the bat mainly because there's other services being found in lastlog, also if two people login at the exact same time and one of them get a "spike" in the process priority you'll end up giving the wrong sessiondata to the wrong user unless you check the username logged in against lastlog but that requires more processing power then a case/if clause from a single output source. Speed is everything, logic is next and everything else falls behind

    What about /usr/bin/tty?

    Edit: Check the DISPLAY Variable if you want to avoid starting multiply X-Servers. However, maybe $TERM might be another solution.
    Locally:

    Don't think this is a viable option.

    I think ewaller meant cut and not -cut.  But even then, what he is suggesting is that you print characters 10 through 12.  So it highly depends on the output length and therefore the number of letters in your username.  If you has used something like this it would have worked:
    who am i | cut -d' ' -f2
    Might work, but you're probably feteching:
    [doxid@faparch ~]$ who am i | cut -d' ' -f16

  • JDBC/JSP/MySQL Code works from my local machine, but not on server

    Hi there!
    I've been struggling with this problem for a while.
    I have a database from which I need to read and display some data on a browser. (The database is set up for remote access).
    I'm using the following JSP/JDBC code to do that.
    Class.forName ("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
    out.println("<BR> Connecting to DB...Pls. Wait <BR>");
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("url","user","pwd");
    if(con.isClosed())
    out.println("<BR><BR><BR>" +"Could NOT connect to MySQL Database...");
    else out.println("<BR> CONNECTED !!! <BR>");
    Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
    results = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM TableName" );
    When I run this of my local machine, it works fine. But when I upload it to a server, it doesn't run through. I dont get either the connected or not connected message.
    I tried this piece of code that I found online to check the driver.
    /*Driver d = (Driver)Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
    out.println("<BR>Got a driver instance. ");
    if (d.acceptsURL(url)) out.println("<BR>The driver does accept my URL");
    else out.println("<BR>The driver doesn't like the URL I'm trying"); */
    I ran it off the server and it worked. I got the outputs --Got a driver instance and The driver does accept my URL
    I'm unable to figure out why this code can be run locally from my machine, but not from a different location. The database is NOT on my machine.
    Any inouts will be really appreciated.
    I'm using an Apache Tomcat container and the database is MySQL.

    Just wanted to mention
    The database is on another (3rd) machine.
    So I have
    1. My local machine
    2. Database hosted on a 2nd machine
    3. Place I'm moving my code to (its basically a hosting account provided by an external company)
    I can access the database from my local machine. However, when I move the code over to another machine, it doesn't work.

  • Windows XP hooks up to internet but NOT local network

    I have an Airport Base Extreme with a local network that includes my machine and an old B&W G3 and my son's iBook G4. My other son has an IBM Thinkpad running Windows XP SP2. We've looked through the discussions and he's been able to wirelessly hook up to the internet but he doesn't show up on my local network. He's used the info from http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1011.html to help him hook up but he still doesn't show up on my network and he is repeatedly disconnected from the internet. Any ideas?

    I'm running the WEP, that's all. My husband just got a new Dell laptop (from work). He was able to hook up to the network without a problem but I can't see him on it either. I can see the Mac and iBook that are on the network but not the Windows machines. Also, when I click on the airport icon in the menu on my iMac, I only see my network. My husband's PC sees other networks that are in our neighborhood.

  • Machines avail on Bonjour but not Local Network - when on same subnet?

    I have a simple system running ARD 3.2 on a machine running OS X 10.5.2, controlling a small number of machines running 10.5.2 or 10.4.11, all on the same sub-net.
    Two of the computers - both 20" Intel iMacs (2.0GHz CoreDuo) with 10.5.2 installed have an odd problem - most (but not all) of the time they show up in the ARD computers list as being available for Screen Sharing Only - and so things like copying files to the machine fail. Their entries have the 'light blue' icon next to them which appears to indicate this state.
    When in this mode they initially fail to show up when I do a scan of the local network. They should - as they are running off the same Airport hub as the ARD controller. However, if I change the scan to look for Bonjour connected computers they show up. If I then go back to scanning the local network they show up there too. But still nothing more than the light blue icon and screen sharing only as an option.
    I've checked the settings of both machines - both have ARD enabled in sharing, both have the firewall set to allow all incoming connections. Other machines connected to the same sub-net show up and can be used without problem. All the machines are running ARD client 3.2.1
    Anyone got any ideas what might be going on?
    Grateful for any advice / suggestions.

    Almost same setting here, same troubles.
    If I restart them via Screen Sharing via the Restart Button on the Login Window, they sometimes show up correctly. But this is way too annoying.

    Have done both suggestions, still not working. Could it have somehting to do with my local network? I am using a wireless Internet provided by my apartment building so not sure if apple tv and my computer are not technically on the same "local network?"
    apple tv and main computer are connecting to Internet fine. Just cannot see my itunes on apple tv.
    any other advice? My itunes is turned on to home sharing. i entered the same apple itunes account into aple tv. but appletv keeps saying my computer's home sharing is not turned on...but it is.

  • Adding multiple locales to TwitterTrends mobile sample - not working

    Hi All,
    I have been having trouble adding support for muliple locales in my application so I desided to try it out with TwitterTrends sample application. Should be easy, but not working for me...
    What I did:
    1. Add locale folder under assets with an en_US sub folder
              src/assets/locale/en_US
    2. Create a properties file for en_US and save to src/assets/locale/en_US
         src/assets/locale/en_US/twittertrends.properties
    3. Add a single resource key for the home view in 'twittertrends.properties'
         views.home.title=Twitter Trends
    4. Update the TwitterTrendsHome.mxml to use fetch the title from the properties file
         title="{resourceManager.getString( 'twittertrends', 'views.home.title' )}"
    5. Add the locale folder to the applications source path, I did this by modifying the additional compilter args for Flash Builder:
         -locale en_US -source-path=assets/locale/{locale}
    Result:
    No title is displayed..
    I am not sure what I did wrong. Any help is much appreciated.
    Has anyone else seen/not seen this issue?
    Cheers,
    Greg

    Try adding
    <fx:Metadata>
        [ResourceBundle("twittertrends")
    </fx:Metadata>
    The problem is that the compiler isn't smart enough to tell that you're using the 'twittertrends' resource bundle unless you tell it so via [ResourceBundle] metadata. It doesn't try to analyze the ActionScript code inside of databinding expressions to determine what parameters you are passing to ResourceManager functions, etc.
    If instead of databinding you use the @Resource() compiler directive, as in
    title="@Resource('twittertrends', 'views.home.title')"
    then it should be able to figure this out without the [ResourceBundle] metadata. But this way of doing it doesn't support switching the locale at runtime.

  • Issue with ARD 3.0 not pushing out Installs, Says its installing but not

    Issue with ARD 3.0 not pushing out Installs, Says its installing but not
    Has anyone seen this. It seems to happen with ARD 3, have not seen this in ARD 2.
    I go to the Install Packages on Target Computers, put in: 10.4.7 Combo (for the correct CPU, PPC or Intel), security updates, QT 7.1.2, etc.
    Push it to Macs I can connect to, observe and control.
    The progress bar copies the files (in some instances it does not) and then it just hangs there, bar does not move, Installs never finish, not good, very odd.

    Is it the same clients that have the problem every time? Are those clients doing anything cpu intensive? Have you tried rebooting the affected clients?
    Maybe try a smaller package on those clients.
