10.5.3 has upset finder

After the 10.5.3 update Spaces, Time Machine and Airport are greyed out in the Finder task bar.
I updated from the 530 meg combo. Any ideas how to solve?

Ok, got it. I guess I didn't try to think my way around the question long enough. The right side of the menu bar is called the Status Items area. It is supposed to only hold "status" information, though that has expanded greatly to allow changing settings.
Anyway, all of those items should have an option to turn them on and off in the individual System Preferences. Try toggling them off, and back on. If the checkboxes are not there, I'm not sure what is wrong.
I found this article. My guess is he meant repair permissions (rights). I would try it from an admin account, first. If that doesn't work, you can try from Install Disk. After booting from the install disk, click through the prompts until you've selected a language. You can then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Finally, enable root login through Directory Utility (you have to unlock the padlock, first) and then login as root, repair permissions, log out, and then disable the root user.

Unfortuantely, you can only track the phone if you had set up iCloud and enabled Find My iPhone on it before it was lost or stolen. I don't believe there is anything that Apple can do to locate your phone either.

Check to see that you are using the cable and charger that came with the iPad, especially the charger itself. If you are trying to charge using the PC, it's USB ports are likely not capable of delivering enough current to properly charge the iPad.

Create an account for him. and use that.
Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old

Indesign CS6 has stopped finding Fonts

Hi, I'm working on InDesign Cs6 and I'm having trouble with fonts. The program has suddenly stopped picking up fonts I have been using for years. For some reason, even though the fonts are all installed and I have used them all many times, Indesign is only picking up what looks like the first font in the family. For example, in the Galliard font family it is registering the Bold font but the Italic, Bold Italic and Roman fonts are all shown as "missing". It's happening with a whole long list of them and I have no idea why.
The computer hasn't changed, no files have been moved and the only changes I made to my font folder was adding a new version of Helvetica, which was done days ago and I never had any issues until now. And even that brand new Helvetica is registering as missing. The files with the fonts have not been edited in any way either.
I tried typing something in Galliard just to test whether it was an issue with the files I'm using but it is missing from my list of fonts. When I type Galliard into the font list it appears and has Roman listed as the style but the second I hit enter to apply the font it switches to bold again and roman disappears from the font style list.
Any suggestions?

Recently suffered the exact same problem. Solution was (for me) to delete and reinstall Indesign CS6.
Like you, I am a very long . . . like from the beginning . . .CS products and their earlier Adobe incarnations . . . way back when.
Like you, I was caught by surprise when trying to complete a pro bono nonprofit project, Indesign could not find the fonts beyond the first few lines of a paragraph. Then, all the text was highlighted . . . pink. Continuing to type . . . text and curser disappeared.
Tried "find font." No joy. Tried deleting Indesign "preferences." Semi-joy. Lasted only for a few paragraphs, then the problem came back.
Have you recently bought or upgraded to Nuance Omnipage Ultimate (Omnipage 19)? That upgrade was the only addition to my Windows 8, 12mb, system before I started having project stopping problems. Send at least one other similar complaint within the last week.
I opted to uninstall and reinstall Indesign . . . because I do weekly updates . . . with Windows 8 system backups with a system image. The desired system image would not have included Omnipage Ultimate.

Who has a find Open Path plug-in for CS4 Illustrator on WinXP and a close path also?

Can anyone lead me to a plug-ins for finding open paths and closing them in CS4 on WinXP?

The iTune Remote App has stopped finding my iTunes library when connected to wifi from my main router, but works fine when connected via second wifi router on the same network (different SSID)

I'm running iTunes Remote App from a couple of iPhone 5's and a first generation iPod Touch. iTunes is running on a PC - Windows 7. My home network runs two Wifi Routers, each with a different SSID. I've had no problems with the Remote app running this set up for the last 8 months but recently the App can only find my iTunes library when the iPhone/iPod is connected via one specific router, when connected to the network via the other router, no iTunes library is found. I'm also running an Apple TV and it's the same as the iTunes Library, only visible via the one SSID.
Everything else seems to work fine when connected via either router, eg Internet on the iPhones (definitely via wifi)
I've tried renewing the lease on the iPhone wifi connection, restarting everything.....several times.....
It used to work fine, this only seems to have been a problem in recent weeks
Any help or advice would be much appreciated

It turned out to be the firewall settings on our router. Her machine was sending traffic that our router interpreted as a DoS attack and blacklisted her Airport's MAC address. That's why it would work fine if she switched to Ethernet.

Finding in a Combined PDF file -- which PDF has each find

I have created a combined file of some 20 PDF files. I now wish to find text across this combined file. I find these as expected and all I see is the page number within the combined file. This is of no value to me. I would like to know how I display the individual PDF filename for each of my finds?

If you've combined pages into a single PDF then the concept of "the individual PDF filename" doesn't mean anything anymore. The combined sections don't know where they came from.

Firefox 5 or 6 served over NFS to UNIX clients has problem finding shared object libraries.

With versions of firefox 3 and below, I was able to serve the application from a NFS share to all client workstations. Now I can not find a version above 3 that will run from just the NFS share. They all need shared libraries local (instead of just using the shared libraries in the NFS share)

It is just on Solaris we have the issue and even with local installed libraries it still crashes alot. On Redhat it works fine with the libraries in the NFS share.

I downloaded ilife 11 and it has upset my iPhoto app and i can not open iPhoto

I have downloaded Mountain lion about 6 months ago. I had already downloaded ilife 11. Everything was working alright. I have now fitted an external drive for backup for my photo's. I have since download ilife 11 again, but this time it has corrupted my iphoto's. I have rerun the applications install dvd, but it has not corrected the fault. When I try to open iphoto's I have an error message that says You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. I have tried to update to the latest iphoto 11 but it wont download. Any answers please. Peter

the version you installed from the DVD is probably older than the version you used last with your library, so you need to update to the last version you used.
I have tried to update to the latest iphoto 11 but it wont download. Any answers please.
Where are you trying to download from? When you upgrade a version that is installed from the DVD, you need to update from the Software Update menu entry in the Apple-menu.
Also, iPhoto has to be called simply "iPhoto", not iPhoto '11 or something similar and to be installed in the Applications folder. Otherwise it will not be recognised by the updater.

Finder has stopped finding anything

The finder no longer returns any results whatsoever when I do a search. I have searched for things whose location I am sure of in order to test this; same thing happens. Could this have anything to do with preferences?

oh, never mind----went to Spotlight settings and removed things that had ended up on the do not search list. The Spotlight settings had been temporarily changed because I was experimenting with installing Pro Tools. Kind of a dodgy relationship, Pro Tools and Mac, I 'm told. maybe this is why....

HT1688 my phone wasstolen it has the find my phone app but its turned off

My phone was stolen i have the app to find it but its not on and i'm scared he'll ditch it if the cops get involved. He's kinda a new person in my life but he did me dirty. stole 120 dollars. the guitar from blink 182 and some other little things. I need the proof so I need to find that phone . any advice you can give me?

If you failed to enable Find My iPhone in the Settings of the iPhone, or if it is turned off, or if the battery is dead, or if your "new person in your life" restored the phone, there is no way of finding the phone. I trust this will not be a long relationship you are forging.

My ipod deleted everything it had on it and cannot get any songs stored on the ipod. Itunes has trouble finding my ipod at times, but when it finds it, it won't allow any files i try to put on my ipod stay on their.

I have the ipod classic 160gb and got it just last christmas. For quite awhile, it worked fine for me, but then one day i turned it on and there was no music or videos on my ipod. Battery was charged, the ipod functions well, just no music or videos. I tried connecting to my laptop and it wasnt showing up on itunes, but it was showing up on my computer. I updated my itunes to see if that worked and it did. It seemed to work, so I started putting my songs on it and my videos, and after i would disconnect it from the computer, nothing was on my ipod, again. I did this a couple of times with no result, with resetting it to factory settings 3 times to no avail. My brother told me to try to sync it up with my computer, so I tried that and it didn't work as well. I'm stumped on what to do. Can it be replaced?

When I hover over cover flow it says I have 12851 songs but when I click nothing happens.
When I hover over artists or albums it says 'no artists/albums'.
I can upload again from my CDs but just wondering if there is anything to do. I live abroad so all my CDs are in storage.
