10.5.3: Preview can't display text on saved PDFs...?

I have lots of credit card/bank statements which I've downloaded as (not 'printed as') PDFs... now since 10.5.3 when I open them Preview can't read the text- it displays logos and layout but no text... taking the documents over to my laptop running 10.5.2 they display perfectly...
...anyone else had this? Or have an idea about how to solve it?
(I did my first 10.5.3 update via Software Update- when I found this problem I downloaded the 10.5.3 dmg from the Apple website, and ran that... and still have the problem...)
This is on a late 2007 iMac...

I didn't fill out the text. The text was there when I first downloaded the documents- and is still readable on my other computer. They just come up blank...
Actually to test, I just downloaded Adobe Reader- which displays them perfectly... but Preview still displays them blank...?

  • How can I display Excel document saved as html in ebDynpro Office Contol?

    Hello,
I have a problem with displaying of Excel document saved as html inside WebDynpro Office Control.
Could you explain why OfficeControl cannot display Excel document with content type =text/htm?
How you know, control must be bound to binary data. And then mime type is set as
    bin.setMimeType(new WebResourceType("html", "text/html", false));
The empty document is displayed always.
Nevertheless, excel file is displayed perfect, when
    bin.setMimeType(new WebResourceType("xls ", "application/msexcel", false));

The OfficeControl UI element is made available as an ActiveX control, so that the UI element can be displayed in browsers that support ActiveX controls.
The ActiveX control enables display of the following documents:
1.Microsoft Word documents with the doc file extension
2.Microsoft Excel documents with the xls file extension
This is the reason why document with other content types are not displayed.
Data source must be bound to binary data because files are read as bytes in this scenario.
    Hope this helps you.
Do let me know if your problem is solved.
    Regards,
    Vijith

  • Preview - anti aliasing and text in scanned pdf

    hello all,
i have an issue with preview not anti aliasing text in pdf files.  to elaborate, take a pdf with text which is selectable and it appears jagged, not anti aliased as in pdfs with text which is treated as an image, i.e. not selectable.
also, sometimes, when scrolling through pages in full screen, the following page has the text anti-aliased as the scroll animation is taking place, i.e. while the previous page is being moved away through the gesture, but once the previous page has disappeared and the new page 'settled in' the smoothing is gone.
smooth text and line art is checked, as is lcd smoothing in general preferences.
    any suggestion are much appreciated.
    s.

    Hi 1ndivisible,
Hmm, that's odd. My type is looking pretty decent out of Illustrator. Can you try a different font or the same font in a new sequence?
    Thanks,

  • I can't edit text on a pdf file in adobe acrobat

I need to edit the text on the pdf file but I can't and this message keeps showing up: " This form cannot be edited in Acrobat. Please use Adobe LiveCycle Designer to edit this form.
There are no security on this file. The only thing that is not allowed is to create templates. When I check the document properties description, on the PDF producer it says adobe distiller 7.0.5 (windows)
I downloaded the adobe livecycle designer but I couldn't edit the text there either... When I open the file it says the text is not downloaded so it replaced it with another text, I clicked ok but then the text didn't change, This message showed up:
I really need to edit the text on this pdf file because it's important. Can anyone help? Greatly appreciate it. By the way, this is a pdf fillable form that you can fill out on acrobat and that is the only thing it seems like it will let me do this file. I don't want to fill it out, I want to edit whats on it. It's one of those forms that you get from NJ courts.

Ok, what we can tell you is that if this is a LiveCycle form (and we can be pretty sure it is), that you are absolutely right. Acrobat can fill it, and nothing else. These are a very special kind of PDF, where all the text is in a special XML format that Acrobat can only show, not edit.
So, you are on the right track: if it can be edited, you need LiveCycle Designer. Unfortunately, we don't know much about it in this forum, so please try posting here: http://forums.adobe.com/community/livecycle/livecycle_modules_and_development_tools/livecy cle_designer_es
If the form is publicly available, it may help if you include the URL (web address) when you post.

  • Is there a way to control Adobe PDF plugin from within a Web Application? For Example, Can we highlight text in the PDF/A document programatically?

    Hi,
I am trying to open a PDF document in browser using Adobe PDF plug-in for IE 9. The plugin version is 10.x
I need to highlight certain text in the PDF document ( which is searchable) programmatically. For example, when a user selects certain text on the web-page, we want to automatically highlight that in the PDF document.

I don't think this is a question one can answer by simply downloading the SDK. And even if one reads all the documentation (it rarely happens for obvious reasons), it is not easy to reach an answer because its explanation is not trivial at all.
In my own opinion, this is right the type of question to be put and (hopefully) answered in a Forum.
Now, I am not sure about the correct answer but I will give one hint.
If I am not wrong, the Internet Explorer, IE, PDF viewer by Adobe is actually a .dll file which is put under IE once Adobe Reader is installed. A custom plug-in for Reader or Acrobat is also a .dll file (Windows) but its extension is .api and it needs to be copied under Reader or Acrobat (or both). Therefore, I don't see how we can merge the IE viewer .dll with a custom plug-in .api. Though maybe technically possible, I don't think it is something we can do.
If above reasoning is correct, the answer to the question is No.

  • How can I copy text from a PDF document in bb pbk?

I've tried to copy a text from a PDF document but adobe reader doesn't give me that option. How can I do it? or there is a better reader for PDF that allows to copy, make bookmarks, to highlights?

If the PDF is not an IMAGE, you can using a free program called PDF-XChange Viewer from Tracker Software. If the PDF was done as an image then you will not be able to select the text.

  • How can i copy text from a pdf while in firefox?

i no longer seem to be able to highlight and copy text from a pdf, while in firefox 33.0, using adobe to view pdfs.
how do i turn on the select tool, so i can do this?

When viewing a PDF with a browser you are using a browse add-on (Adobe's, Firefox's, or some other provider).
An add-on is not the desktop application; add-ons do not provide the full functionality of the desktop application (Reader or Acrobat).
To have full use of all Comment and Drawing Markup tools save the PDF to the local machine's HDD.
Launch Adobe Reader XI (pre-XI releases do not have the full set of these tools).
Open the PDF. Annotate as desired.
    Be well...

  • Preview can't see half of a PDF (JSTOR)

I just downloaded a 20-page PDF of an article from JSTOR, and Preview refuses to see pages 2-11. Neither in the document nor in the drawer preview are there any pages in this range, and clicking "Next" or "Last" toggles from 1 to 12.
The PDF looks fine in Acrobat, and my library told me it worked fine on their PCs. Do we really want things working better on a PC than on a Mac?!
Just wanted to report what appears to be a bug -- either with Preview, or with how JSTOR is producing PDFs. I'll be happy to e-mail anyone a copy of the affected PDF files. Or you can try downloading from JSTOR (if a subscriber), at Stable URL: http://www.jstor.org/stable/2671392
    Thanks

My wife is also having this same problem on her iBook G4 with tiger. My MacBook with Leopard seem to work fine.
Jstor posted official comment that they have updated their .pdfs over this summer and now they seem to have compatibility issues for some versions of preview. Their current advice is to use Adobe acrobat.
Pdf lab works fine too - though this is not a very convenient solution.
You might want to try to use Leopard to see whether the issue is solved (not sure maybe it is related to PPC architecture and the bug will remain even after the upgrade to Leopard)

  • Can not copy text from a pdf file

    https://sites.google.com/site/sharedacrobat/data/cannot_copy_text.pdf?attredirects=0&d=1
I can not copy the table caption in the above pdf. If I do so, I will get some gibberish, such as %"/*&+%",-.%&1",/*%9&,*09%&
I'm wondering what happens to the pdf file. Is there a way to fix it so that I can copy the text?

Does anybody know what cause the problem and how to fix it? The current walkaround is to convert the pdf into image, then load the image into acrobat and perform OCR. But this is tedious and some information may be lost. I'm wondering if there is a better solution.

    Hi iggybuskus2,
If you want to edit text in a PDF, you'll need to use Acrobat. You can download a free trial of Acrobat from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html, if you'd like to give it a try.

  • How can I add text to a pdf

How can I add additonal text to a saved pdf?

    Hi remax13
You Need Adobe Acrobat to Add Text to your PDf files. Two Ways to do this.
    1. Convert your PDf to Native file like word, Excel
    2. Make Changes in the output file
    3. Convert it back to PDF
    Or
See the below link to use the Add Text and Edit Text Tool in Acrobat.

  • Preview can't display Japanese PDF files

I have some Japanese PDF files that can only be displayed in Adobe Reader, I have no problem displaying most Japanese PDF files in Preview. I wonder what is the cause of this problem? Please help me thanks.
Those files when open under Preview will display squares only.

Thanks for replying. I follow your instruction, I went into the font folder and validated all fonts, it showed 35 minor problems. I deleted those duplicates, but the problem still persist.
Did you pick the right PDF files in Japanesepod101.com? Their old files have no problem, their new PDF files are the one that I have problem. If you don't mind to try open their PDF files in the latest lesson. They have "lesson notes" and "lesson notes lite", I have no problem with lesson note lite, but for lesson notes it can only be viewed under Acrobat reader.
Edit: I just discovered that if I copy those squares and place it in Safari, the words will appear correctly.

  • Preview not showing some text in certain PDFs

I've had issues with a couple of PDFs this year that did not display correctly in Preview, but are viewable in Acrobat Reader. An example is here on pages 31-36. Preview shows blank gridlines, but Acrobat Reader shows text and numeric data in those cells. It appears Adobe may have enabled some kind of text flag that Preview is ignoring in one of their authoring programs?

An example is [here|http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5227378.pdf] on pages 31-36. Preview shows blank gridlines,
I tried downloading the pdf file at that link, and in my system Preview displays those pages properly:
You might try running the [OS X v10.6.6 combo update|http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1349] - it contains some updated Preview components which might include something that is currently missing in your system.

  • Can't edit text in old PDF

I've got some PDFs that are several years old.  I'm not sure what program they were made in originally, but it may have been PageMaker.  When I open one of these files in Acrobat X Pro, the content edit tools are grayed out and I can't use them.  Acrobat does seem to recognize the text as text, however, as I'm able to select text in the usual manner.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?  Would it even be possible?
I'm using Acrobat X Pro on OSX 10.8.  Thanks.

Bill, is there a repair option in Acrobat X on Mac?  I've been unable to find it.  I see references to it in the help menu when I google the issue, but those all appear to be for version 9, and I don't see it in my help menu.  I tried trashing preferences, just in case, but that didn't do anything.
I've come to find that the problem is more pervasive than I thought.  Acrobat will crash shortly after opening regardless of whether or not I take any action.  Possibly related to the problem: when I look at the "Open With..." menu from a PDF in finder, I see two copies of Acrobat displaying the same version number.  I searched my hard drive and there appears to be only one installation.
