10.5.3 Update and Canon XSi

Does the Mac OS 10.5.3 update add support for the new Canon XSi Raw format?
Thanks,
Eric

Unfortunately it doesn't look like it made it. See this article: Mac OS X 10.5: Digital Camera RAW Formats Supported.
That's too bad. Hopefully it won't take another 2 or 3 months to get an update for the Canon Rebel XSi.

  • Aperture 2.3 update and Canon 350 (xsi) RAW+JPEG issue

Anyone know if this update fixes the problem with importing RAW+JPEG captures from Canon 350 (xsi)? I'd hate to download this update and then have to un-do it (again).
    Thanks!

Not using a canon 50d, using a Sony a900 instead. Actually, DPP is special because it does absolutely no noise reduction (at least in AHD mode). You can see that it is actually noisier but with a much finer grain pattern than ACR, aperture, raw developer, etc. You don't get the blotchiness associated with the NR of these other converters. The beauty of this is that when you run it through your grain reducing software it is much better for the software to deal with (the noise hasn't been processed by any NR software- which makes the noise non-random) and as such produces much cleaner images. I just did a comparison of the noise with the A900... here are links of the comparison using a publicly available Imaging Resource Raw file:

Aperture doesn't do a bad job, better than most others, but still not as good as RPP.

  • Aperture 2.0 and Canon XSi (450D)

Does anyone know if Aperture supports the new Canon XSi model? Or if there is a list of supported cameras for aperture? iPhoto keeps rejecting the CR2 file format from my XSi and I'm looking for software that I can edit my RAW images.
Thanks in advance for any input,
    Regards,
    -Steve

I don't know that it's necessarily any harder for Apple to support the XSi than any other camera.
Supporting RAW formats means carefully analyzing proprietary file formats and sensor products and modeling them to provide consistent results across many different formats. It's not is it merely hacking up a file -- you want those raw sliders to work as expected and deliver beautiful results.
Combine this with the fact that camera companies tend to release many new products all at the same time, and it's not a fast process.
By way of comparison: in late August 2006, Canon announced the XTi. Samples were available at Photokina in early September. I purchased one the day they came in, which was late September -- around the 24th or so. Full, flawless XTi support was added to the operating system (thus for both iPhoto and Aperture) in early November. That's a turn around of about 2 months from announcement to support, and of about a month and a half from release to support. I'd say we have another month or so to wait.
In the meantime, it's possible to use an external RAW converter, convert to DNG or 16 bit Tiff (I'd use Tiff if you have the space), add the converted files to Aperture and store them on disc/network along side the RAW originals. Then, once support is added, you can add your originals, stamp the changes you made to the converted versions to the originals, and then remove the conversions. Again, this is a workaround for a month or so, and is the price you pay for being on the bleeding edge.

  • ACR 4.6 and Canon Xsi

I'm trying to open up some .cr2 files but nothing seems to be working. If I double click the image from Bridge it opens up photoshop CS3 and tells me the file format is not supported. The file- open in camera raw is grayed out from Bridge as well.
    My work computer is running:
    Photoshop CS3 10.0.1
    ACR 4.6.0.30
    OS X 10.5.5
I already tried to purge the cache in bridge and camera raw but nothing seems to be working. The ACR update said it included support for the rebel Xs so I would assume the Xsi would also be supported. Do I need to change something in my preferences or re-install ACR? Any help apprecated.

I have a XSi and it definitely is supported under ACR 4.6. I am not sure what is causing your problem. One possible answer - did you delete your old level of ACR (it's not enough simply to rename it - delete it). Hope this helps.

Installed Lightroom 5.7 Update and Camera RAW 8.7 But still will not recognise my Canon 7D MkK ll even though this is now on the list- what can I do?
    Operating System OSx Yosemite IMac.

What exactly does "not recognise" mean, Kathy?
You're on Mac (thanks for providing that detail): are you getting a "could not be read" message? If you are, it's a write permissions issue with the destination. Change the permission, and all should be well.

If you go to Photoshop>About Plug-in and click on the words Camera Raw, what version does it list?
I suspect you still have Camera Raw 7.0
When you go to Help>Updates from within photoshop cs6, it says nothing available?

  • 10.6.7 update and now Canon printer problems

I had the automatic 10.6.7 update two days ago and everything is fine except now I have printer issues with Canon MF8350. I can still scan, I can print from Safari, I can print from some .pdf but not others, I am unable to print anything from Word - they all come out as blank pages. Updates from Microsoft and Canon didn't help.
If you don't know, anyone at least know how I can uninstall the update? I know how to find the updates list, but not how to get it out.

I just want to let you all know that I fixed my printing problem.
I could not add my printer under the System Preference>Print & Fax after I did the reset. But I can add the printer back to my Mac Pro by connecting the USB cable to the tower. When I connected my USB cable back to the Apple Extreme. The printer was offline. I did so many different thing still not working. Then I go the the discussion forum on Airport Express and ... I also followed a lot of advises there. Then someone give out a link on Apple support. I following the advise half way still printer was offline. Then I went to my Mac Book and to reset the printer, and add printer again, and click share this printer. I went back to my Mac Pro, and try print a page, I choose nearby printer (there was never has this option for me before). It has another printer icon with Canon MX310 series-1. Bingo, it printed from my Mac Pro also. I have two printer icons on my Mac Pro, one is the same name as the Mac book. I was very happy. It was 4 in the morning. Well, finally I could sleep good.
I am still not sure exactly what the step to make my printer work again (Trial and Error). But I learn a lot by reading advises on this forum.

  • Have photoshop cs5 installed on desktop..got new Canon rebel T5i camera...cannot open RAW images...updated and installed plug-in...still now working.  Need help, please.

I have photoshop cs5 installed on desktop...got new Canon rebel T5i camera...cannot open RAW images...updated and installed plug-in...still not working...help please.

In any event, that camera was first supported by ACR version 7.4 which needs at least CS6 to run.  Naturally, all later versions support it too.
Your choice is either to upgrade your Photoshop, or to look for, download, install, launch and run the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 8.6 on each folder containing your raw Canon files to convert them first to raw DNGs that you can open in CS5.
In no case does an Adobe application belong "on your desktop".  The default install location should always be respected and left alone.

  • Built in SD Card Slot issues - Canon XSi

I have had a Canon Digital Rebel XSi for a few years now and it has always worked well with my macbook and iphoto. I recently upgraded to the Macbook Pro (early 2011) and was pretty excited about being able to leave the USB cable behind.
    Here's where it gets interesting:
When I pop the SD card out of my camera and put it into my macbook pro the SD card shows up on the desktop and in iphoto 2011, however it doesn't have anything on it except for the default folders that the camera creates. No photos.
I could also see that there was occupied space on the SD card, no files but used space
When I put my SD card back in the camera and got an error of "Cannot create folder" so I couldn't use it or see the photos anymore
I used a restore program to get all the photos I'd taken over the weekend trip off the card
Next I decided to reformat the SD card in the Canon XSi, I popped off a few pics and put the card back in the Macbook and I was able to import them
Cool it was fixed... well, actually I put it back in the camera after importing and "Cannot create folder" again! Again the card is useless
I updated the firmware on the XSi to the latest 1.1.0 version and tried it all again, but still the same results
There is a fix and it's simple enough. If I just continue to use the USB cable everything works normally. I will of course do this, but I'd love to use the new SD card slot and not corrupt my card. I'm curious if anyone else is having similar issues. I'm also concerned that when I grab photos from a friend's SD card that I'll break it, and that just aint cool.
Thanks to anyone who reads through this exciting post and offers any suggestions.

You could have a faulty slot, aluxious.
Have you tried inserting the card in the slot as quickly as possible, rather than gently, though. I've found a couple of mine at least don't mount if I insert them too slowly. (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3553 seems to confirm the need for this).
Checked with various cards, and made sure the contacts on the cards are clean and undamaged, I guess?
    Cheers

  • How download cs5 Camera raw update and how make Photoshop the default in the Bridge "open" menu?

Two problems  which have defeated me.
First, I have a new Canon  EOS 500D  and need to download the  recent  (July  2010) CS5 Camera Raw update. However both of my computers freeze when I move from the Adobe Support web page to the Download web page.  Is this a known problem? What to do about it? I am using CS 5 on a Windows 2007 XP computer.
Second, (probably related to the first)   opening a file in Photoshop is not listed among  Bridge's  "OPEN AS" options. Also,  the "OPEN"  Default is "PAINT". How do I set Photoshop as the "OPEN"  menu  default?
Thanks for your suggestions. I am truly befuddled by these  issues.

Sounds like something is really wrong with your computer, and it isn't clear what, but if you're just having issues getting to the download link for ACR:
Here is the download page for ACR 6.1 update:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4728
Here is the download page for the CS5 12.0.1 update:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4733
If those links don't work, you can probably find the same updates on the FTP site, although some things here are more than a decade old:
    ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/photoshop/
See if Bridge and ACR are any happier after installing these two updates.  Make sure you run them as Administrator.
If those still don't work for you, try another browser, where Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Google Chrome should all work.
    http://www.microsoft.com/ie
    http://www.firefox.com/
    http://www.google.com/chrome
There are numerous other browsers, as well, but they probably won't work if the above three don't.
Perhaps you either have a virus that you should scan for, or over-zealous internet-protection software that you could try disabling temporarily.
My favorite free virus/malware scanner is from www.MalwareBytes.com
The payfor version will automatically update itself and scan, but the free version works just as well except you have to manually update and scan.

  • Did Lightroom software update and now camera won't tether

I have been using my Canon 5D Mark II tethered to Lightroom 4 successfully for quite some time. Last week I downloaded the software update and now the camera will not tether. I have tried two camera bodies and neither work. Both cameras will tether with Lightroom on a different computer (that didn't get the update). So, it's the software. Help!

    Hi
try a safe boot - holding down the Shift key until it starts up -
Simply performing the Safe Boot may resolve this issue.
Shut down your Mac. If necessary, hold your Mac's power button for several seconds to force it to power down.
Start your Mac, then immediately hold the Shift key. This performs a Safe Boot. Advanced tip: If you want to see the status of a Safe Boot as it progresses, you can hold Shift-Command-V during start up (instead of just Shift).
Note: A Safe Boot takes longer than a typical start up because it includes a disk check and other operations.
If your Mac starts up as expected, immediately try restarting.
If the Safe Boot does not work, or the restart after a successful Safe Boot does not work, go to the next section.

  • Epson and Canon printers not working with 10.7.5

Anyone know if there is a fix for Epson and Canon printers for 10.7.5? Did Apple intentionally switch off printer drivers to force us to upgrade to Mountain Lion? I called Epson technical support and they mentioned it's a well-known issue and they said to "wait for an Apple update". I doubt that will fix the issue. My Canon printer stopped working for months already and there is still no fix.

    Hey there zoneinfinite!
I have an article here that can help you find and manually install the most updated printer drivers for your specific printers:
