10.5.3 Update Blues

Well let's see, they broke Time Machine with 10.5.2; now I am unable to sync my iPhone since the new update, menubar syncbar spins continuously. Have reset iSync prefs, deleted iSync & sync server preferences; stopped .mac synch and still they same problem.
These updates are getting very old....any ideas?

There's definitely a problem... I'm having the same difficulty after installing 10.5.3. Not only does the sync icon in the menu bar spin and can't be stopped but the sychserver makes the computer hot and I have to force quit it in the Activity Monitor. I can't sync contacts and iCal on my iPhone and when I took the computer and the iPhone to the Genius Bar in my local Apple Store, in trying to restore the iPhone, it fried and they ended up giving me a new one. The new iPhone didn't sync either and the Genius suggested that I do a reset and install of OS X. I haven't tried it yet, because I need a free afternoon to do it.

Iphone 5S crashing after 8.3 update blue screen of death

I have an iPhone 5S which is 90 days out of warranty. I updated to 8.3 and the first issue I noticed was my music app. When I play music it doesn't start off from the last song I played - I have to choose my songs again and restart my shuffled playlist. Last week out of nowhere my phone crashed but it was at 80% battery. The screen went black, then blue, then tried to reboot. It "reset" itself within a few hours. Next day I accessed the App Store and it crashed again. It has since crashed several more times using Facebook, email, turning it off...very frustrating. I brought my phone to VZW and they said it was a software issue. I then went to the Genius Bar and they said without restoring the phone and reinstalling ios, they have no way of knowing if it's software or hardware. The phone crashed as the tech was looking at my phone so he excused himself, went to the back and came back with a second opinion "it's definitely a hardware issue and since you are out of warranty, you'll have to buy a new phone for $549". WHAT?!? So wait, you JUST told me that you wouldn't know if it was a hardware issue until the phone was restored so how did you magically surmise this? Then to tell me there is NOTHING that can be done and if I wanted to restore from a backup, I wouldn't be guaranteed that all of my content would be restored to my phone OR there is a possibility my phone would be wiped clean and not restorable at all. Nice try and scare tactic. I left Apple with a phone stuck on the blue screen of death. I went back to VZW and they said its definitely not a hardware issue and even if it were, Apple is the company to seek, not them - they are just my carrier. I am so fed up with Apple. Every update and phone I've had with them has had issues. I don't know why I continue to be their customer. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

You could try basic trouble shooting, that's what everyone usually suggests first but it that fails to work then it is a hardware issue.
Did it start crashing after you installed or or got rid of an app? Oh and has it happened before on any other IOS?
In my opinion you should email Apple explaining the issue and they might be able to help you or tell you it plain and simple that your phone is broken

Recently updated, blue lines on screen

I recently updated the software on my 30 GB ipod video, and when the software finished updating and my ipod reset itself, thin blue lines now appear vertically on my ipod display screen. Does anyone know how to get rid of those lines? or should I take it in to be fixed??

i am having the same problem, and that suggestion did not help. i updated my ipod last night before i went to bed and this morning the screen appeared to be distorted. i ejected it from my computer but the screen was still showing a distorted "do not disconnect" yet it was covered by what appears to be multi-colored or blue squares. can anyone please help????

Trouble with 10.6.8 Update - blue scream, does not start the OS when it turns on. Should I stay with the old 10.6.7?

The Disk Utility could not repair the disk neither the repairing installation of the OS X allowed me to start the OS, the blue frozen scream was still appearing. The HD erasing with the Disk Utility was the only choice, than installing the 10.6.7 OS.

I'm not entirely certain of what you've tried here, so some of this may be what you've already tried.
Get an external backup or two, made via the bootable DVD. Recoveries and repairs sometimes fail, and data loss can result.
if Disk Utility is not repairing the disk structures, then you can try an add-on repair tool (which wouldn't be my choice, but some folks try that), or you can create an external backup and reinstall from distribution. Attempting installation on a corrupt (or potentially failing) disk won't usually have desirable results.
After creating the external backup (or two), you can either replace the disk and reinstall, or can attempt to wipe and reinstall with the existing disk using the bootable DVD that came with your system (or a new Snow Leopard DVD from Apple) and particularly the Disk Utility tool that's available via the DVD Utilities menu, and migrate in your old data from the external backup. I'd then download and apply the 10.6.8 Combo Update from Apple; and not the delta update from 10.6.7 (if that's what your Mac DVD has).
The data migration is part of the installation, and will attempt to bring in your existing files and your old environment, passwords and the rest of the settings from the external disk image. (Assuming it's not corrupted.)
If you have reinstalled and have redownloaded and reloaded the combo update, then you likely have some sort of a hardware problem with your MacBook Pro; check with the local Apple Store for repairs, or whoever else you might be using for that. Or replacement, of course.
I'm going to assume that you're using the OS X 10.6 client software that arrived with that MacBook Pro and have not installed and are not running the server version of OS X Server 10.6 (this forum); the initial recovery sequence for this case is basically the same for either, though getting the various services back online after a disk corruption can be more involved. You will need to use the 10.6.8 Server combo update here, though.

ITunes 8.2 update Blue Screen of Death on Windows XP

I installed the iTunes update on a Dell Inspiron 1500 XP Home Edition computer and now the computer will not boot; it goes directly to the Blue Screen of Death. I cannot go into safe mode as it also gets the BSOD. Is there any work around for this? That is pretty bad that a software installation can effectively break a computer to the point of having to reinstall the whole operating system!

These sorts of outdated-software clashes can hang around for the longest time. Back before you came on board, one of the common causes of BSODs was a version of Roxio Easy CD creator (5.0 I think ...) that wasn't actually compatible with XP. If you had it on board, it quite was plausible that you couldn't get your XP PC to boot ... but for some folks the problem lay dormant, and their first sign of trouble with it was when the PC had iTunes installed on it, and the PC started blue-screening if they plugged in an iPod, inserted a CD, or sometimes just tried to launch iTunes.
Used to catch in particular folks who had upgraded their OS from ME to XP.
Mercifully extinct or vanishingly rare now ... but it kept showing up for me here in 2005 through 2007 ...

App Updates Blue Dot Badge not showing

Hi, in the past everytime i manually or automatically in the background my apps updated, i used to see a blue dot badge next to the apps which have just been updated but now i dont see these. Is anyone else having the same issue? i have tested this on 3 different devices and still i dont see the blue dot.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPhone?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).
No data will be lost.

Using Airport Extreme with a Airport Time Capsule to update Blu-Ray player

I was wondering if it were possible to hook up a blu-ray player to a second Airport Extreme to update the player? I have a Time Capsule in my home office and a blu-ray on the other end of the house. The blu-ray needs updates. I am wondering if I can use an Airport Extreme as an "extension" wireless unit hooked up to my blu-ray player to have it connected to the net?

You have a few options to do what you want.
Perhaps you were thinking of the AirPort Express when you mentioned AirPort Extreme. The AirPort Express can be configured to "extend" the main wireless network created by the Time Capsule and the ethernet port will be "live" so that you could connect to your BluRay player via ethernet.
An AirPort Extreme would work as well, but you may not need the other extra ethernet ports on the Extreme and extra expense for features that you may not use.
I take it that running an ethernet cable to the BluRay player is not feasible in your current situation.
You may not have thought about the next option, which would make use of a pair ethernet powerline adapters. One device plugs into an AC socket at the head end and another plugs into AC at the BluRay end. The adapters use the wiring in your home to transmit the ethernet signal. You would run a short ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on your AirPort Extreme to the adapter and do the same at the BluRay end.
This type of connection will almost always provide a faster signal than wireless, so you may want to check these out as an option. Best Buy will have several to choose from.

N97 SW Update - Blue Screen of Death or Timing Out

I’m trying to upgrade N97 firmware 12.0.024 to 20.0.19 I’ve had a few problems in the upgrade process.
1. When I first tried it with software updater I got a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), I tried this again with Ovi v2 and got a similar issue today.
2. From the handset SW updates are not available yet.
3. After getting rid of the BSOD problem I then tried updating and the phone with SW Updater and the phone effectively switches off causing the update to time out so it just won’t do it’s thing. The phone starts again which is fine but the update just never continues.
4. Have already tried doing factory reset, soft and hard to no avail
Does anyone have any ideas?

IPod touch + Software update + Blue screen of death = Broken iPod?

As the title already might explain, i just connected my iPod to my pc to get some apps & movies on it for my boring schooltrip tomorrow. Whilest iTunes was downloading the new software for my iPod, i just was continueing hanging around on the net, when all out of a sudden, my pc get's a nice blue screen of death. First, i didn't care, untill i checked my iPod... It's stuck on the iTunes logo + the cord. When i press any button, it doesn't do anything. When i press the power, it shuts down after few secs.
I then tried to replug it to the pc to reset it. My pc makes the sound of a usb connection, but nor Windows, nor iTunes finds my iPod.
Can someone please help me?

I just had my ipod in my pocket and when i got it out to look at a text that i got the screen was white and i couldn't do anything on it so i held both buttons and it shut down and started working again but it did the same thing the other day.... But now it wont shut down or anything. I tried letting the batter go dead on it but it still did the same thing.. i can hear when i get a text and hear to unlock the screen but it stays on a white screen 24/7....what do i do??
I don't have a warranty so how much would it cost to get it fixed???

OS5 Update Blues Double Photo rolls!

Boy I hope that Apple is doing a serious post mortem on this OS5 update....this is the first time that I have seen so many problems with an Apple product!
Anyway, my latest and perhaps (hopefully) my last issue with the OS5 update is with my photo sync.
When I did the update...among OTHER more serious problems....my photos did not come back on the sync. So I decided I'd just redo my sync folder on my PC and refresh it wit some new pictures. After I did all my changes in a NEW directory with a new name, I went to photos and selected the NEW directory and clicked APPLY and then did the Sync.
But NOW on my phone I have (asside from the Camera Roll which was ok) TWO Identical Photo rolls.....One is the "Photo Library" and the other is named after the Directory I am syncing!!! They are BOTH identical and originating from my NEW directory where my Sync photos are.....but WHY are they duplicating on my phone into two seperate directories??????
I cant seem to eliminate one or the other....its either I have BOTH duplicate Phot rolls or NONE!
This has got to be a simple issue...I hope, and the last major issue I've had with the OS5
On a side note.....this OS5 update has exposed the HORRIBLE AT&T support. Up to this point I've been pleased with AT&T, but the technical problems that ensued with OS5 on my 3 iPhone 4 phones, has shown me that AT&T support is completely "veneer" and God forbid you need to go a smidgen past a "Level 1" technical issue......their Tech support lacks true technical people.
The worst aspect of my calls to AT&T was them saying...."well that was an Apple Update, so we cant be responsible for their updates" DUH! You are partnered with them nes't pas!!!!
My experience was so bad, and so frustrating that after 10 years with AT&T I will now look at Verizon when my contract comes up, because quiet frankly they have lost my confidence.
Anyway, that is a side issue to my problem above, but important that others know, in the hopes that AT&T might learn from the issues.

Well, you certainly have a bunch of problems. It's hard to know what to suggest.
There is a trackpad setting in System Prefs/mouse&keyboard/trackpad for toggling pad gestures.
I'd run the hardware test from your original DVD.
Try logging out of your account, or even perhaps creating a new user account, and see if all behaviors are the same.
You might end up having to reload OSX.

Windows update causing BSOD in my new B50-30 with DRIVER-IRQL error

Hi folks - I'm really hoping someone else has found a way to deal with a similar issue.
I bought a b50-30 about three weeks ago, and everything has been fine until the latest rounds of Windows updates. During the normal update blue screen, It got stuck (I gave it 24 hours just in case!) on "update 5 of 31", so I eventually had to force restart. That led to a blue screen with the annoying smiley emoticon for a frown, and it claimed to be "collecting some error I fo and then we'll restart for you" but it showed a 0% progress reading, which didn't change during the 12 hours I (patiently) let it run. The specific error message was DRIVER-IRQL-NOT-LESS-OR-EQUAL. Eventually I force-restarted a second time and went into Safe Mode, and the updates appeared to restart and make progress. Eventually the computer started normally again. Victory?
All was fine for a week, and then the bloody thing got stuck on the next round of infernal Windows updates, this time not getting past "28 of 61 updates". When I force restart, I get the BSOD with the same DRIVER-IRQL error message and the same 0% progress reading that won't make progress no matter how long I leave it. Unfortunately, this time, opening in safe mode won't work for me, as it merely brings me back to the identical BSOD screen. Now I have no way to restart the bloody thing at all (other than going for a full recovery, which I'm hoping to be able to avoid). I also tried the "refresh" function, which went through the percentage progress fully, but resulted in the same BSOD. Interestingly, it won't allow me to "restore".
Does anyone have any brilliant advice, other than throwing it out a window and never buying either Lenovo or Windows again?

Welcome to the Forums.
If you;re able to see the SSD in the BIOS and/or see it under Disk Management while using the stock HDD then you may want to consider the following:
1. Boot from the stock HDD and update the BIOS
BIOS Update Utility - Ideapad 305-15IBY, Lenovo B40-30, B50-30, B50-30 touch, E40-30 Laptops
2. Update the SSD's firmware to MU02 (latest as of this writing).

3. Using the stock HDD, connect the Crucial SSD and convert the volume to MBR first to see if there's a compatibility using the drive as GPT.
If none of the above methods works then there's likely a compatibility issue with the SSD's controller and/or the BIOS (similar to this thread). In this case, consider using a different brand (e.g., Samsung) and observe.

Bluetooth doesn't work after last update.

Just like in subject, after updating bluez my bluetooth stoped working. I tried to restart daemon, but nothing helps. It looks like it was off all the time.

Device error to export on Blu-Ray

In Adobe Elements 4, when i made export to Blu-Ray a device error apear . I repeat the export three times with diferent discs,Verbatim 2xBD-R , Memorex 4xBD-R,and the same problem apear..The computer is a Sony Vaio AR-71S. Please help me...

No need to say that you already tried to restart application.
For 'Device error', try whether device working properly with some other application like Window Movie Maker or other app comes with BluRay burner.
'Device error': try to connect device first and add media to it and than start Premiere Elements
'Device Error': Insert some bluray dics or movie to bluray burner and check whether window explorer able to read it properly.
'Device Error': update Blu-ray burner firmware.
'Device Error': In Premiere Elements, Share, select 'BluRay' not 'DVD' and click on rescan.
Please try these options and till than let me think some more way to help.

Most instructions that I have read say:

( Yep, I got the security update blues: which makes me always wonder if Apple programers can program an updater they should also program an uninstaller. )
However I do not have a alternate startup volume and I do not want to do that firewire thing by using another Mac.
After I insert the CD that that has the 1049 combo updater in my iMac20 drive can I install the updater from my eDrive ( TTPro 4.5 ) ?

Then, just reapply it on the hosed startup volume. I know nothing about eDrives, but just copy the COMBO updater from the CD to the IMac and run it from there.
Your reluctance to use external FWHDs for bootable backups/clones severely limits your ability to restore the OS back to its previous incarnation. See http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html and http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/installswupdates.html for developing a proper strategy.
