10.5.3 Update Failed, Rendered iMac unusable..

After my computer froze during the v10.5.3 upgrade, I held the power button down to turn it off and then restart. Since it was turned off then the computer hasn't been usable since. So far this is what I have done to try to remedy the issue:
- Reset PRAM and NVRAM
- Using Single User Mode, deleted possible troubling files from Application Enhancer
- At Apple Store, AppleCare rep booted to a different hard disk and ran Disk Utility (found and repaired numerous errors), still the computer will not run.
- Attempted to boot from Tiger DVD that came with computer (by booting with the option key and selecting dvd), the computer goes into kernel panic.
I've tried everything that I could find, but still no luck! This is the symptom (as it has been since the day I installed the 10.5.3 update)
_I turn on the computer, the gray screen appears with the Apple Logo. After that, the spinning loading symobl begins to spin underneath the logo. Then it spins continually with no end, it has gone on for an hour or more before I turned off the computer._
Please, somebody, give me a solution! I have a presentation stuck on the computer that I need very soon! Apple is sending me a Leopard DVD in the mail (my other one is gone), but the 5-7 day wait will have me fail a project.
Thank you,
Alex.

Last question is: _Is it still a sign that the ram is actually good if the computer boots from another drive?_ At the Apple Store, the Genius plugged in his external drive and booted from something else so he could run Disk Utility. So it can't run from an install CD, but can run from an external drive.
No.
Now it could mean that something is wrong with your optical drive or with the bus that carries data between your optical drive and memory, but there's still something very wrong with your machine if it panics when booting from the software restore disc.
Yes, if you're still under warranty or AppleCare coverage, all will be covered for free unless there's damage due to some kind of abuse or accident.

I have an iMac G4 PowerPC with OS 10.5.? After deleting 17G of music files to make room on the 74G drive, The iPhoto and iWeb updates seemed to load okay, but the OS 10.5.8 update failed - message opened said the computer encountered an error and must shut down. Now I get the blue screen. Startup with 'V' pressed shows multiple lines saying: error-can't find IntelCPU Power Manager. What now?? I  reset PRAM, I think.....?????

I am concerned that you might have applied a system updated intended for an Intel iMac, while you have a PPC (non-Intel) iMac. Your PPC OS should not be looking for an "IntelCPU Power Manager."
Have you tried booting from the 10.5 install DVD/CD and repairing the hard drive, plus repairing permissions?
If you done the repairs mentioned above, and your problem still persists, you can also try doing a safe boot. (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455 ) Then, if none of these things worked, if I were in your shoes (it's hard to diagnose these things without being there in person) I would first check that there is adequate disk space, then I would boot from the 10.5 DVD/CD install disk and reinstall the operating system. There is an option to do an archive and install preserving user files/settings, that would be the option you want, as it will save your files but install a new OS. Make sure you have a good backup of your files first. If you do not have one, use "target mode" to copy all your files before embarking on an new OS install. Assuming that you do succeed with this install, then use Software Update to get the right updates for your iMac.

I have Photoshop CC 2014 and Bridge CC on an iMac (late 2013) running Yosemite 10.10.3
The creative cloud app tells me to update Photoshop and Bridge.
When I click the update button I get an update failed message with "There was a problem updating Photoshop/Bridge."  The more information field says "The download appears corrupted.  Please try to download again. (U43M1D204)
When I try again exactly the same thing happens.
    Can anyone help please?
    UPDATE:
After trying the renaming of the 1.0 folders in the /library/application support /adobe/AAMUpdater and ~/library/application support /adobe/ AAMUpdater I was still having the same problem.
Then tried downloading the adobe camera raw 9.0 update directly from Adobe Camera Raw 9.0 Update for CC and ran the dmg setup file.  Both photoshop and bridge were updated and when I logged out of CC then logged back in again all of my apps were up to date.
    Hope this helps others.

  • HT2513 My iCalendar wont open after a OS 10.8.2 update failed to install.

I noticed there was an update for OS10.8.2 so I ran it. The computer needed a restart so I did it but aftwerwards it gave me an error message saying update failed. I restarted and it loaded the OX but the update didnt load and the iMac no longer shows an update needed. Current version is OS10.8.1 and now my iCal wont load and keeps giving me an error message telling me to reinstall with compatiable OSX. OK, now what?

When I go to iTunes and select my iPhone, then Photos, it gives me the option to sync photos from my Mac to my iPhone but not the other way around.
You use iTunes to upload photos to your iDevices, but you can only use it to download photos from the device, if you have iPhoto installed on your computer and your iPhone, and have "Documents & Data" enabled in the iCloud Preferences on your Mac.
See: Ways of sharing: With other apps,Save photos to your computer using iTunes
If you do not have iPhone installed, use either the PhotoStream or connect the device directly to your Mac to an USB port and and import from the device. This way you can import all photos that are in the camera roll on the device.
I really need to back up my photos from my 16 gig iPhone to my 750 gig MBP,
But what do you want to do? Sync photos back, or backup your iPhone?
To sync photos back, you use "import", either in iPhoto on your Mac or "ImageCapture", but to back up the iPhone, you use iTunes. But backing up the device will not allow you to access the photos on your mac, see: iTunes 10 for Mac: Back up your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad

  • 10.4.4 Update failed. Get "JS Error.."

    Hello,
I tried to update from 10.4.3 to 10.4.4 via "Software Update".
The update failed with an error message and I was advised to try it again. After the analysing phase of Software Update it tells me that everything is uptodate, but thats not true, because there were other updates before, which i have not installed.
In the console.app I get an error message every time I am installing something:
JS Error: Can't find variable: __SystemVersion
It's the same problem as in that older thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1196077&#1196077
Crazy: It is impossible to close Safari by clicking the closing-icon in the upper left corner. Only via menue it will be closed. Hmmm!?
Does anyone know somthing these things?

    Hello,
The first version of 10.4 was allready installed on the iMac, when I purchased it. Some weeks later I used the disks deliverd with the iMac to reinstall 10.4. All updates until 10.4.3 made no problems.
Some weeks ago I made an update to Java 1.5 via Software Update. I don't think this is an issue, because usually JavaScript has nearly nothing to do with Java, but who knows...
It seems, that you have an idea what the problem could be?

  • 9.1.2 Update Fails in Acrobat Pro 9

I am running a standalone version of Acrobat Pro 9 on an iMac running Mac OS X 10.5.8. I am trying to update Acrobat Pro 9 from 9.1.1 to 9.1.2 without success. I have had problems with EVERY SINGLE update from 9.0.0 whether from help>check for update OR from a direct download from Adobe.
When attempting to install 9.1.2 I receive the following message:
The patch has failed because the application has been modified since it was originally installed (for example, plug-ins may have been disabled). Please go to the Adobe support website for more information regarding how to re-enable disabled components prior to installing the patch.  Or, you can uninstall and reinstall the application, and then reinstall the patch.
The console log has the following messages:
    04/09/2010 12:04:34 PM defaults[17997]
    The domain/default pair of (/Volumes/AcroProUpd912_all/Acrobat 9 Pro Patch.app/Contents/Resources/RegExList, 1) does not exist

I decided to do a complete uninstall and reinstall of a more up-to-date version of Acrobat Pro 9 from the Adobe site, but the uninstaller claims Adobe Acrobat Pro.app is an invalid file.
I've read countless messages online with similar stories and I find it incredible that there are so few solutions to all of these problems.
Contrary to my nature, I am hopeful someone can help.
    Thanks.
P.S. - it's hard not to be sympathetic to Apple's latest contretemps with Adobe Flash...

    graffiti, KamakuraKid, phillip -
thanks for all the tips - unfortunately none of the suggestions worked.
i first deleted the AUMProduct.aup file - the update failed.
i hoped a new admin account would do the trick, but was surprised to again encounter the "The patch has failed..." error.
as far as the python errors in console, i don't have these.
as a last resort i ran the uninstaller program, but it does not think Adobe Acrobat Pro.app is a valid program file!
i'd drag it to the waste basket, but am sure some piece left hanging somewhere would come back to haunt me.
not sure what to do now...

  • HT1557 10.9.2 update won't update on my imac 2010 at all, and now my computer won't shutdown or restart without a hard boot.  Did anyone have this same problem and figure out how to fix it?

So for the past few weeks I've been trying to update the 10.9.2 update on my imac (2010 - 21.5 inch) and when I attempt to try to update the software my screen goes grey with a Software Updater top bar the shows up on the top of the grey screen and then just quits doing anything (except the screen saver which works after nothing else happens - and that shows you how long I've been waiting for the grey screen to magically do something.  I've attempted downloading the software update then installing it but the same thing happens.  I don't think any of my 3rd party software is the cause of this and i'd rather not uninstall the programs since the update won't even do anything.  Utility is telling me nothing but the usual ARD element unable to be modified.
With the several failed attempts at installing this update (probably around 15x) my computer will not shutdown nor restart on command anymore.  The only way I can shut it down is holding the power button.
I used to have so much faith in Apple products and used to be a devoted user, but since Jobs passed away the direction of Apple has gone down the toilet.

Well Bababooey if you're comparing yourself to a Apple Genius Bar then you should already know my answer, your snarky remark get a snarky reply.  Why would I go to a salesperson to fix my computer problem when I can go directly go to the source itself.  I used to sell Apple computers over 8 years ago and was apple certified before the Genius bar existed. If I am to go about fixing an issue I can't fix on my own I will go to the source itself meaning Apple's programmers and developers - being UI UX Developer myself I know they should have QA'd all platforms and troubleshooted any arising issues.
This was also the first time in the 20 years I've been using a Mac that I even attempted to go on this forum which i thought would put me in connection with a certified Apple representative.  This turned out to be a complete waste of time just being a public forum with no Apple employee involved.  I was hoping to find a quick fix but in turn I was only frustrated with stupid responses such as yours that were in no way an answer to my original question.
BTW I fixed the issue on my own and without your help or Apples help. I'm glad if all forums point here regarding this issue because I now have the answer. The answer I was looking for from someone earlier was as simple as this {Download Maverick and reinstall the platform - it will take an hour to do but afterward 10.9.2 was installed and my computer is now able to shutdown and restart without having to do a hard boot.}  No more software update bar at top and no problems with my drive which I told both you and Grant - I know my computer better than you and I've probably been using them longer than you.
So again Babowa you were so wrong...... and I am right.
Again anyone having the same problem, I suggest reinstalling Maverick and you'll be suprised 10.9.2 will work fine.

  • 10.4.7 Update Failed, Now Software Update Broken

I tried to update from 10.4.6 to 10.4.7, but the update failed. I then tried the update via the package that was downloaded. No luck. Now, when I try to launch Software Update, it dies.

    Hello Chad:
You do need to run repair disk from your software install DVD (you cannot repair a boot drive from the same drive). If that fails to repair errors, you have a couple of options.
Alsoft's DiskWarrior is the "gold standard" of directory repair (pricey at about $90, but worth it).
If you used a program like SuperDuper to create a bootable clone on your external HD, you simply need to restore it. If you do not have a bootable clone, you really cannot restore from the external HD.
If you do have your data backed up in some fashion (but not a bootable clone), I would suggest you run an archive and install (see above). A&I will install a fresh copy of OS X (you would have to update it, of course) and also preserves your own programs, files, and settings.

  • Adobe Application Manager says Update Failed and the patch is not applicable for me. PLEASE HELP!

As the title said, that's my dilemma. I have the OS X Yosemite update (worst mistake of my life) on the iMac. Photoshop CS6 was acting much slower and crashed a couple of times, so I tried to update it. However the Adobe Application Manager was uncooperative and said that the update failed. If there are any other things you need to know in order to fix the problem, tell me. Just please, please HELP ME.

which update are you trying to install? What is the current version you have?

  • ACR 6.1 (Mac) Update fails

When I try to install the ACR 6.1 using the Adobe Patch tool supplied in the disk image, the install fails with this message:
    Adobe Application Manager
    Some updates failed to install.
The following updates were unable to install. If you wish to install these updates, please fix the problems below and retry:
    Photoshop Camera Raw 6.1 Update
    Installation failed
Contact Customer Support for further assistance.
There appears to be no way to determine why the install failed unless there are log files somewhere. Contacting Customer Support results in another download of Adobe Support Advisor. Running it produces this somewhat confusing message:
Found issues generated after 05/11/2010 00:00:00:
The module found no issues to report for the selected log file. If you continue to have difficulties with the application, please contact Adobe Support.
After reading other install issues, I have tried the install after a reboot with same results.

I have exactly the same problem with trying to install ACR 6.1 on an iMac under OSX 10.6.3.
So I rebooted and tried again - no go.
Uninstalled CS5 and also used the Adobe clean script at http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs5clean.html .
    Reinstalled CS5.
Tried again - get the same error:
    Photoshop Camera Raw 6.1 Update
    Installation failed
Any advice appreciated. Or maybe I just wait for the final release.

  • Why does Photoshop CS6 Update fail?

I subscribed to Creative Cloud (CS6) and none of the Photoshop PS6 updates work.  Every time I attempt to update PS6 the past four weeks, I get this error message: "Update Failed- Errors encountered during installation.(U44M1P7)." How to fix? My PS6 won't update, and Adobe tech support hasn't been able to help, I've contacted them via CHAT twice.  I'm running an iMac with 12GB of RAM, OSX 10.8.4.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

In February 2013 I installed CS 6 Design Standard on an iMac 2013 with Fusion Drive running OS 10.8.4 and I've never been able to update.
The updates always fail with this report: There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later. Error Code: U43M1D204.
When you click the customer support link in that message you go to a Creative Cloud page with no useful links.
I am still using CS 6 but I would like to update.

  • 2.1 update failed, now Ipod won't work

So I foolishly paid the 10 bucks to download the new 2.1 update for my ipod touch, and at the end I got an error saying the update failed. So, I have tried to restore, and it gets through the whole process, then gets stuck on "veryfing ipod software...". I'm pretty sure something is wrong because the ipod turns off. Now I can't use my ipod at all. What can I do if I can't get it to restore? THe nearest Apple store is an 8 hour drive?

Are you trying to upgrade to 2.0 in your new user account as well? If not, try that, so iTunes downloads a new copy of that software installer, just in case the one downloaded on your normal user account is somehow damaged or unusable.
If the Apple store isn't convenient, you can call Apple or go online to set up mail in service. They basically send you a box to send your iPod back to them, and then send a replacement out.

  • Latest update failed, computer won't even start up

Downloaded the latest update (don't know which one, it was just a few days ago; system update and iTunes). The update failed and locked up. Upon shutdown, the computer will not start up. All that comes up is the grey apple and the spinning circle of lines (for hours). It's a 3 month old 27" quad-core iMac. I have tried starting up from the DVD and re-installing the system, but it fails saying there are essential files that it can't install. Disk Utilities says that it appears the disk is fine. Repair permissions had an error that it couldn't fix. Also, tried resetting PRAM. Disk Warrior DVD didn't start it up. Do you have any suggestions? I am not Terminal savy. Thanks.

    G'day Blaise,
Do you have a Time Machine (or other) backup of your System from just before the update?
If so, then you can boot from the installation DVD, and then select ["Restore System From Backup"|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/15638.html].
If not, then you may be forced to Erase your disk and fully reinstall OS X using the installation DVD. Follow [these instructions|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3910] if you wish to do that. (Note that it will delete your data).
    Cheers,
    Rodney
