10.5.4 and SPEAKERS STILL POPPING

This is getting so old. Has anyone gotten any relief on this issue aside from using the third party software hack?
It's pretty much impossible to watch or listen to anything online.
Using external speakers (m-Audio DX-4) and external sound card, (M-Audio Audiophile), audio cracks and pops anytime I try to listen to audio online. Makes previewing new music, watching documentaries, anything that involves sound online is pretty much ruined.
Same problem when I run my speakers through the audio out, without the maudio sound card. The problem was present immediately after I upgraded, and before I installed any drivers for the M-Audio card, so it is NOT an issue with my sound card.
Also should note that my upgrade to leopard was a clean install and I repair permissions regularly.
As if the popping and crackling were not enough I now find myself actually getting angry, literally angry everytime I try and watch something like a simple youtube video.... I am angry at what seems like a crap operating system that was pushed out the door too early, this from a company I trust and swear by.
4 point updates later and still having the same problem.
Leopard has been the worst thing I have ever experienced from apple. It feels like a microsoft product or something. I also think it is cute (please correct me if I am wrong) how apple seems to have removed or hidden the customer reviews of leopard on the store site. There were quite a few unhappy people posting reviews up there (including myself) then suddenly all of the reviews seem to be gone.

This has actually gotten worse with 10.5.4 - I am now sitting here listening to my speakers pop with no audio at all running.
Going to have to take the time to downgrade out of this sh*t operating system this coming weekend. Thanks apple.
