10.5.4 update - not letting me logon
i just installed the newest 10.5.4 updates for my imac. everything restarted and it came to the logon screen (which never happened before) and I enter my password and the screen goes away, then a few seconds later it comes up again. I know the password is right because the screen goes away as opposed to shaking when its wrong. what can i do?
I think I am going to hijack this thread since I am having what appears to be the exact same problem.
I don't seem to be able to boot at all in safe mode. When I hold down shift before starting up, the system seems to hang.
When I let it start up normally, I get the same repeating password screen issue. Everything seemed fine yesterday.
I have no idea how to "enable root". I have my start-up disk for 10.5.1), but not sure what to do with it.

Software Update not letting me deselect updates
Software Update is not letting me deselect certain apps for automatic updating. This is annoying as I don't want to download applications I don't need or use. I have followed the instructions (System Prefs - Software Update - Check Now) but when I deselect the apps I don't want, I don't get an option to ignore them from future downloads. So, I keep getting asked if I want to download things I don't want.
Is there a solution to this?The problem is, I only get the option to Install, not Ignore.
The Ignore option is not in the dialogue window. It is accessed from the menubar.
1. Highlight the update you wish to ignore. This is highlighting it in blue.
2. From the menu bar of *Software Update*, click on Update, click on *Ignore Update*.

I was trying to update my software to on my phone and it would not let me do so sending me a message to restore my phone before I can complete an update so I did this but it would not complete the restore and was sent another message stating that my phone is already in recovery mode and a restore needs to be completed before I can update any software. I have tried this four times now and my phone screen is stuck with the Itunes symbol on it along with a picture of the plug. It will not let me eject or do absolutely anything. I cannot use my phone at all. I have even tried to shut it down and turn it back on which still did not help.

MY IPhone will not let me back up my phone or download the IOS 7 update because it says i do not have enough storage space. But I deleted all of my apps and pictures just to update it and it still wont let me do it. What should I do?

For the 2nd day my iPhone 5 will not let me download updates for apps. I've tried selecting each to click off wait, and have selected new updates indvidually instead of all together. Also have shut the phone down and have even deleting the apps completely and re-downloaded but to no avail. Each app continues to sit on my screen with the line below as if it is about to download but never does, and now any apps I've tried to updated will not let me use them.
Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!

iPad mini will not let me access mail after latest software update, 6.1.2, seems to want me to sign in, but whenever I type my Id ad password it just says that the mail account already exists.. Still can't open my mail!

Am totally new to iphone and have a 3gs. Am trying to upodate software as in the itunes store it says that I need to to purchase. When I try to update a message says that there are purchases that hav not been down loaded to my library? As far as I know I haven't purchased anything from itunes as it would not let me until i upgraded! Totally confused would it be anything to do with purchases made on my computer through e-bay? Please help me someone as am terrified to upgrade until I know what this message means.

Sounds like you can't update your device. You don't mention an error that it gives you. Take a look at both of these articles to troubleshoot.

If you started your device in recovery mode by mistake, restart it to exit recovery mode. Or you can just wait—after 15 minutes the device will exit recovery mode by itself.

If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method. -
I have used your info to give my two iPads different names. My problem is that my old iPad still has the old email in the Apple ID pop up so it will not let me sign in. I checked my info in the manage my account page and there is my email as primary, which allows me to sign in for apps, etc on the newiPad air, but when I try to update or buy an App on the old iPad, the old email is in the pop up and will not let me sign in.
How do I change the email in the old iPad to match the new iPad????
The Old email is on my manage my account page as a verified ALTERNATE email.We are fellow users here on these forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
Have you created a new account or updated your existing account ? All content that you download from the store is tied to the account that downloaded it, so if you have created a new account then all of your existing downloads will remain tied to your old account.
If you've updated your existing account then try tapping on the id at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app and log out of it and then log back in with the updated id so as to 'refresh' the account on it. -
My Ipad 2 will not let me make purchases since Ios7 update however my iPhone 5 will.

Any help would be appreciated... I really want to watch the Americas cup final!!!Totally false. It will still function as it has. You may not be able to download newer more resource demanding Apps , but anything you currently have on it will still run on it.
Just because you can't update anymore, doesn't mean the iPad will cease to function.
It will run as it has without the updates but again your App choices will likely become more and more limited. but that's it. You should still be able to view websites, check your email etc... just fine. -
My phone will not let me download the most recent update for iOS 7.1. It says I need a wifi connection and will not allow me to push the 'Download & Install' button, even when I am at home and my wifi is on. How do I fix this?
Unfortunately yes, though technology would never move on if it kept to older standards and did not strive to do more.
The app store always gives you the option to use a previous version of the app IF it is available for your device.

goodnight. as you know apple has evolved considerably until today but there are people who do not have ability to buy new products. in my case I would like to know why the apple do not let the iphone 3g update to iOS 4.3 as are several applications that can not put on my iphone 3g due to this reason. Why does not Apple make a repository with applications for ios 4.2.1? or else do not work in an update to ios 4.3 on iphone 3g?
This has nothing to do with Apple, as Apple does not make the apps.
This is the decision of the app maker.
Contact those app makers and ask them why they do this.
