10.5.5 Update Erased All Data in iCal

I just updated to 10.5.5, and it appeared that I had no issues. However, when I started up iCal, all of my calendars are gone from the sidebar, and every event is gone from the calendar - as if I've never input anything before.
Clicking the "+" button to add a new calendar does nothing, and results in me having to force quit the application. The backup and restore features in the file menu are greyed out and unselectable.
Has anyone else seen this issue, or know what I could do to fix it?

I'm having problems with iCal and Address Book since the 10.5.5 update as well. Normally I never have any problems at all after updates, but, this one bit me.
I updated 2 computers, both iMacs, but, one is a PowerPC Mac, and the other an Intel Mac.
On the PowerPC iMac, the update appeared to go fine, but, just today there are entire calendars missing from iCal and entries missing from the AddressBook that were there before. After rebooting the computer and restarting iCal, I noticed appointments moving around in the calendar BY THEMSELVES! It looked as if a ghost was sitting at my computer moving things around in my calendar!
On the Intel iMac, all of my appointments disappeared, but, my calendars in the sidebar are still there. And the AddressBook freezes CONSTANTLY now. I have to force-quit that app several times a day now.
This is like using a Windows computer! First the MobileMe disaster, then the iPhone 2.0 screwup, and now this? What is going on at Apple lately?? I can't trust your software or hardware anymore.

Connect the iPhone to a computer running iTunes and use iTunes on that
computer to restore as a new iPhone which will wipe current content.

Okay here's the rundown of my problem on my iPhone 5 32GB. I can't check currently (you'll understand why later) but I believe it was on iOS 7.1.1 as I know it wasn't the absolute most recent version. First off, my lock button is sometimes unresponsive, a hardware issue and I haven't gotten around to getting that fixed yet. Anyways.
Today I wanted to open up my twitter app. The instant it opens, everything freezes. I mean everything: screen, lock button, home button, everything. The screen usually shuts off after 90s if I don't do anything, so the screen went black after this time as everything I did didn't register. Now with the screen being black, still no response from most things. The only thing I can do is activate Siri, though the screen still doesn't turn on, just the sound. She couldn't usually hear me, and if she did it would take her about a minute or so to respond. I can still connect to iTunes (windows 8) though so I did that, but I stopped the initial sync. I tried doing the hold both buttons for 10s thing but that didn't work (might be because the lock button is iffy) so I couldn't start recovery mode.
At this point, I decide the only thing I could do (because no where on Google anyone had a similar problem) is to restore the phone, either to factory or to a backup. When I tried these options in iTunes, it told me that it could not do this while Find my iPhone is active, and to go to settings on my phone to turn it off. I can't open settings with the screen black. I tried going to icloud.com in order to see if I could turn it off from there. The site could find my phone just fine, could make the sound just fine. I could however not remove the device from iCloud unless the phone was turned off (which I again can't do with a black screen).
At this point, I went to the directory with the backup on my computer and copied it to another location. Then in iTunes I did a sync to create a new backup. Now the only thing that was available for me to do was on the web site to erase all data from the phone as it did not require Find my iPhone to be turned off. Feeling out of options, I went through with it and clicked erase. For some reason, this is the time that the screen decides to turn on. The phone showed the apple logo and a progress bar. The bar progressed quickly at first but then slowed as it neared the end. At this current point, it's been at what appears to be 100% for around an hour with nothing happening. The buttons do nothing, my computer can't see the device so iTunes won't do anything.
Is there anything else I could try to do or should I just wait it out. My city does have an apple store which I could go to tomorrow but if I could get my phone running tonight that would be great. Also, if I can't do anything and it doesn't budge, if I take it to the store would it cost a lot to fix or (if necessary) replace? It was a birthday gift two years ago, bought without a plan, and I don't think it's still under warranty.

Ok, I am student so buying a new phone is not possible ;( This experience has turned me off Apple anyway! All I did was click yes to their iTunes upgrade prompt asking me if I want to update....and now I don't have a phone and can't access all my backup etc on my iTunes because it seems the only way to get to it is with another iPhone!?
I can't believe that through the Apple recycling program I could possibly get $50 for this phone because the hardware is perfect but there is no support for this issue...feels like Apple is just trying to force everyone with hacked phone to buy new ones!

It's really been puzzling me, I've never logged in the Apple site on a laptop before - I have been getting the same message 'Unable to verify iCloud account' every time I try and erase all data and content from my iPhone 4s. When I go to iCloud on my laptop and sign in using my Apple ID it signs me in. These are the same log in details I am prompted for when trying to erase all data/content from the phone. I'm trying to reset my 5th gen IPOD nano so i can give it to my niece, but I don't seem to have the 'erase all data' option under the settings menu. I've tried hitting menu and play/pause button to do a hard rest, but that doesn't work either. Uggghhh.

IOS update erased all of my photos, even in iTunes?!

I am concerned that the latest iOS update erased all of my data on my phone, including every picture and video I ever took of my 2 year old daughter.
I regularly connect my Phone to my computer, so I had imagined that iTunes was backing up my data. But as far as I can tell, this is not true. It looks like it's all gone. My phone has no photos. iTunes has no photos.
Here's what happened:
When I agreed to upgrade the OS, the phone "verified" the update and then told me to connect to iTunes. When I did, iTunes told me that the phone was in "restore" mode, and that I had to restore it to factory settings, which would delete all of my data.
Turning off the phone didn't help, the only was forward was a restore. I was concerned, but assumed that things were backed up on my computer.
Once my phone was "ready to use" everything was gone.
There are three backups of this phone in iTunes: one from a few minutes ago, one from when the iOS update and restore finished, one from 9 months ago, and older ones. There is not one from the backup I thought I was making a couple of days ago. It's all gone.
Note: I have updated iOS many times before, but never before has it erased all of my stuff. Something is different this time.
I do not use iCloud.
I regularly back up my computer to my Time Capsule. Is there maybe some way that I can restore an old backup from that or something?
I'm very upset.

My girlfriend just had a similar thing happen. She orginally got her iPhone 5 2 months ago. Sunday morning she clicked the recent update. As it downloaded it prompted her to plug into itunes. When she did it said that the install failed and she would need to restore the phone to continue. Not really know what any of that meant, she restored the phone. After that she had no photos, no contacts, no apps and no calendar.
She is really only concerned about the photos (her sister just had a baby, she took the photos) we took it to the apple store and the guy said there was nothing that can be done. Seriously, no photos could be recovered. were probably talking about 500 mbs of photos.
I checked for the restore files and one said 11/26 a few days before she bought the phone and then 2/3/12 with a time after the wipe happened.
Icloud doesnt have any photos. Is she really out of luck like the Apple store guy said, is there really nothing that can be recovered. I've erased a memory stick before on my camera and I was able to restore all photos, wondering if there is something like this that can be done. Any ideas?

Another Apple Itunes Update. Dutifully I applied it and found that Itunes afterwards had lost all information related to my Ipod device (it retained the information to my Iphone which uses a different music selection). Now Itunes wants to erase all data on my 2nd device so that I can use Itunes on it. You are able to activate an old device and process an insurance claim for your iPhone 4s within 60days from the incident date. Keep in mind if the old phone is not a smartphone and you currently have unlimited data that feature will fall off. If you have a tier data plan no changes will be made. Firefox also makes regular backups of your bookmarks in a folder named bookmarkbackups in your personal settings folder. You can restore the backup to your new Firefox, but unlike importing the HTML-format file, it is a complete drop-in replacement, so if you have saved new bookmarks you do not want to lose, the export/import method may work better for you.
By default, Windows hides your personal settings folder so the easiest way to access it is from inside Firefox. You can use either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
* (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
* type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This will launch a window showing your Firefox settings files.
You might want to back up this whole folder if you have other data you want to preserve from your XP computer.
Either way, you should find the bookmarkbackups folder here and when you click into it, find maybe 10 files with dates in their names.
